Personality
For someone being sorted into the house dedicated to hard work, patience, and fair-play, Arthur seems to be in the wrong house. At least, that's what his close friends think. This eighteen-year-old may be the most sarcastic, wittiest, and sharp-tongued boy at Orenda Academy. He is blatantly honest; whatever thought happens to pop into his head makes its way straight to his mouth, where there is no filter. The running joke with Arthur is that he seems to "hate" everyone. His friends even claim him to be a misanthrope. Some people absolutely love him for his blunt sense of humor, while others loathe him, claiming him to be rude and "lacking restraint". However, Arthur already seems to have plenty restraint...
The young adult is awfully quiet, and usually keeps to himself. (unless with close friends) He keeps calm, and is usually laid-back. It even seems as though he will never get angry because of his cool demeanor. However, sometimes he's too laid-back, and can lack ambition, which leads to laziness. He's more of the serious, quiet down-to-earth type, and isn't really the guy who can cheer you up when you're feeling down. Arthur is loyal for the most part, strong, tough, and surprisingly independent. Extraordinarily analytical, he notices details others overlook, and makes a great spy. Sometimes, he knows about gossip and secrets long before they get passed around by the school community. All-in-all, Arthur's best trait is his cunning. He may rank among the average students when it comes to grades, but when it comes to strategy, he's hard to beat. This is why it's extremely easy for him to always have the last word.
History
Living in the mountainous regions of snowy North Dakota, Arthur was born to a Pure-blooded family with an absolutely terrible reputation. His father had been arrested for thievery on more than one occasion, and his mother was a well-known adulteress. During his early childhood, Arthur spent most of his time upstairs in his bedroom, keeping to himself. He remembers residing more in his grandparents' house rather than his own home, as his parents barely took care of him. It was from his grandmother that he learned about magic and what it meant for his family. He was proud of his pure-blooded heritage, of course, but he never really took it too seriously. If anything, all he cared about was what time he would have to be returning to his hell of a home life. Things got worse when his mother died. She was brutally murdered by one of her lovers who had found out about her marriage and her disloyalty to those whom she considered "more than just friends". It was a small funeral, and although everyone around him had no trouble doing it, Arthur couldn't work up the strength to cry.
Eventually, both of Arthur's grandparents had died, and he found himself all alone with his father, who had now become more violent after the death of his so called "wife". Once the boy reached the age of eleven, he had received his acceptance letter into Orenda Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, his father decided to hold him back a year, claiming to have little to no money in his pockets and bank vault, and swearing that Arthur wasn't "intelligent" enough to attend school yet. Angry and determined to leave dreary North Dakota, the boy looked desperately for jobs an eleven-year-old could perform, and worked hard in order to assure that he would be attending school the following year. Disgusted by his son's decision to work for filthy muggles, Arthur's father had no choice but to get him away from the small town. He sent him away with his old wand that he had used at Orenda, (a brown Rowan wand with an unusual Kelpie mane core) and ordered/encouraged him to join Ursus house. It had been the house of almost every ancestor in the Winterbourne family. As an act of defiance against his father, Arthur let himself be sorted into another house, Cerva, instead.
The rest of Arthur's story is history. He met many people in Cerva house that he now calls close friends. One of his friends, knowing about the history of Arthur's father, offered to let him stay over at his house every summer. Since then, the now eighteen-year-old hasn't visited or even written to his father. Although very callous of him to do so, not contacting his father has made the boy a lot less depressed and dull. Although seemingly directionless in school, Arthur does have great talent in Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and shows potential in Transfiguration and surprisingly, Divination.
Other:
Arthur has a secret: he was actually born a metamorphmagus. The trait was handed down to him by his mother. This means that he is able to change his appearance at will. This makes him an excellent spy.
