Setting

You see before you what was once a college, a place of learning and bettering. Now the Astrologist camp hangs over the door, and troops patrol the grounds. They have held this location for five years, against raiders, mutants and a small Prefect raiding party.

Most their troops are kept here, and all big-ticket prisoners are brought back to the main building. Their proud, but often unseen leader, has taken one of the dormitories as his personal palace.

Around the camp, they have set up several farms, which provide them with a limited amount of crops and meat, along with their proud war stallions.

The last few days had been stressful for General Andrew Steele. He'd lay in bed at night, feverish and unable to sleep, his brain frantically processing his options. He'd spend all day carrying out his decisions, awaiting reports of the conflict with bated breath. But the dust had settled and his stress had paid off for the Astrologists. The Tigers' leader was dead, making them no longer a force to be feared, but a smattering of thugs. Strife in the southwest was at a pause for now.

He wanted to relax, let out a deep breathe and celebrate, but the victory just led him into even more decisions. When the Tigers were scattered to the winds, his troops seized their resources - food, water, weaponry, medical supplies. He wasn't sure what to do with them. Distributing it to the people would win him some loyalty, but he could also use it to recruit even more troops. The promise of food, water and shelter would probably convince many to risk their lives. After all, life without these things tended to be even shorter than the life of a soldier.

He also had to decide what to do about the rest of the Tigers. He could pursue them, try to hunt them down. On one hand, he might be able to eliminate them almost entirely, but on the other, it could be a waste of resources. The Tigers knew how to lie low, and they weren't his only enemy.

He shook his head. That was a decision to be made later, when he was more level-headed. This lack of sleep had made him emotional and unbalanced. He headed to his quarters and lied down in bed, pulling the covers over him. His brain was still going a hundred miles an hour, but he managed to clear it for a moment and just breathe. He lost his sense of direction for a moment, as he reached that serene time of sleep, dreamless sleep.
