{ APPEARANCE }
Despite years of rough living, Xerxes cannot hide the aristocratic features of his family. Thus, he has chosen to embrace it. When he has a choice, he dresses in practical, but well-made clothes and strives to keep his facial hair well-groomed. Standing at a respectable 5"9, Xerxes greets friend and foe alike with a graceful smile and soulful brown eyes framed by long jet black hair. However, where as a child, his eyes blazed with a curious naivete, his eyes are dimmed by a his experiences and knowledge of the darkness within the world.

Althought he dislikes more ornate clothes, Xerxes is more comfortable than others of his profession wearing fine aristocratic outfits and will do so when the need arises. Nonetheless, he prefers to wear a brown leather jerkin, white shirt, dark trousers, and a pair of black boots more than anything else. Naturally, he has his sword and pistol sheathed and holstered at his side respectively.

{FAMILY }
The Gaspari Family of Vicanto

{ PERSONALITY }
You can say that Xerxes is remarkably soft-hearted for a pirate. Of course, you would be immediately challenged to a duel of blades or pistols and Xerxes will not take no for an answer, but you can say it and it would not be necessarily untrue. Xerxes did not choose to become a pirate. Rather, he felt that he did not have a choice. As a pirate, Xerxes does not join crews who prey upon the weak and innocent. Instead, he would much rather hunt for the lost treasures of the ancient Sirens whom he utterly fascinated with, but he will settle for the treasure fleets of the great powers from the Old World if he must. He despises those in his profession who are nothing but slavers and murderers, though he has come to accept that more pirates tend to fill these roles than the roles pirates fill in storybooks.

Xerxes believes in honor and passion in the pursuit of one's goals. He is restless and always dreamed of being the captain of his own ship and is at peace with the way his life has turned out. He is quite happy to operate outside of all authority but his own, but he still retains a bit of the naivety of his youth. He trusts his own crew with his life and does not expect anyone to plot against him. This has rendered him blind to a faction of his crew's growing discontent and the envy in his first mate's eyes...

History

Image{ HISTORY
Xerxes was born into a life of wealth of privilege in the rich city state of Vicanto. Although it has already begun to be eclipsed by the larger empires establishing colonies in the new world, wealthy merchant clans like the Gaspari Family managed to forge connections and sponsor great trade expeditio into the new world, particularly to the Sea of Garacia. Xerxes was thus afforded the best education money could buy with the expectation that he would take over his family's business when he was ready.

When he was a young adult, he began accompanying his father who had partnered with the Albion Company, a commercial enterprise given authority by the Albion Empire to establish trade posts and enforce Albion hegemony in key parts of the world. During one of these journeys, an ambitious young officer attacked Xerxes' and his father's small trading fleet in an attempt to capture the ships and kill them to the last man. Xerexes only escaped due to the quick thinking of his father, who sent him out to sea on one of the few lifeboats with three loyal crewmen. By chance, he arrived at Nassau where he heard the news. His father had been accused of piracy and months later, he learned that his family's assets had been seized thanks to the Albion Company's interference in Vicanto where his family's rivals soon helped themselves to his family's fortune and attained political power with the understanding that they would follow orders from the company for now on.

Xerxes swore vengeance. He joined a pirate crew with the goal of attaining his own ship and going after the young officer who had orchestrated this plot. For five long years, Xerxes toiled at sea, squashing guilt for harming those who might have been innocent for his captain was a brute of a man who cared only for lining his pockets. Finally, he could not take it anymore and he managed to get the captain drunk enough to wager the ship itself against a lifetime of servitude on Xerxes' part. Thankfully, Xerxes did not play fair and he won the card game easily, but in a rage, the captain moved to kill him only to be stabbed in the chest by Xerxes before he could reach his pistol.

Xerxes then began plundering the ships of the Albion Company, even offering his services as a privateer to Albion's rivals until he learned that the young officer had been made a commodore. Killing him was anticlimactic however. He frequently paid visits to the brothels under the control of his company and it was there that Xerxes met him and killed him, fleeing in the chaos that followed, his ship just barely losing the ships that pursued them into a storm.

Xerxes had gotten his vengeance then, but he felt empty afterwards. It did not make him feel better and he could never go back to the life he knew as a boy. Searching for purpose, Xerxes renewed his boyhood interest in the Sirens and their treasures and decided that he would be the one who would have the glory of unraveling their mysteries.

"Well, it was a gallant effort, but it seems I've won this round," Xerxes announced joyfully, placing a blade at the legendary Crimson Lady's neck. Well, he considered it a win at any rate. True, they might have lost her ship in the storm that was conjured by and subsequently escaped the control of one of his precious spellblades (by the gods, they were indispensable!), but that wasn't before the lovely dark skinned captain had boarded his ship in an attempt to take his head. He grinned.

"I wager that your crew be off to Nassau if they did sink or, more likely, off each other trying to decide who to replace you. Welcome to the Dancing Flame, milady," he told her with a sweeping bow, eliciting a chorus of laughs from the rest of his crew. His First Mate leered at her.

"This is quite a treasure, captain. I'd hope you weren't intending to keep her for yourself," he murmured, reaching to caress her cheek, drawing a few guffaws from the crowd. Xerxes shook his head.

"I wouldn't do that," he told the older man, "She might take it off. Besides, there will be treasure for all soon enough."

He strode towards the edge of the ship and smiled.

"The legendary Tri Isles, seat of the Siren Queen from ages past," he announced reverently, "I'd say tonight is as good a time as any for a feast."

He turned to Robyn and smiled roguishly and reached behind her waist and pulled a piece of parchment from her pocket, "We have your half of the map after all."

He pocketed it and bowed once again, "You will be my guest of honor, of course."

"Ah, clearly I am doing my duty. As it is said in my country, "Si una donna e tranquila, ha bisogno di un uomo." If a woman is at peace, she needs a man," he announced, earning laughter from his crew. His first mate frowned, eying their captive wearily.

"I think it would be better to execute her, captain. I rather think that she is too dangerous to be kept alive. How many men has she killed in the past? Why should we waist food and wine in order for you to play host?" he asked, earning a few nods of agreement. Xerxes shook his head.

"Oh no, my friend. Chivalry is everything. If it were not for chivalry, we would be no different than the common rifraf we just went packing," he argued, grinning as he earned a few cheers from his crew. He clapped his first mate on the shoulder, "Now come, Jacob. Let us celebrate!"

Within an hour, food was being piled high on makeshift tables on the deck of the ship. The men were already cracking open alcohol and Xerxes could hear a few instruments being played. He smiled from his spot next to Robyn who, true to his word, was his honored guest. He eyed the salted pork in front of him with a slight frown. He did not much care for the smell the spice gave off, but that was easily remedied. He took a sip from his wine.

"I hope we can put this unpleasantness behind us, mio cara. I hold no ill feelings for you. When we are back to Nassau, I am certain we can come to an arrangement in exchange for your freedom, say, 10 percent of your plunder for the next year and a day?" he told her.

"Ah, that is what makes you unique, Captain. Magnanimous as ever. Some would say too magnanimous," his first mate told him, sitting next to him and offering him a toast. Xerxes smiled.

"Well, magnanimity does wonders. You'll see."

"Aye. I think you have. Will you do the cook the honor of taking a bite of your meal? The battle was long and hard and you must be famished. Cookie worked extra hard to make these rations palatable."

Xerxes smiled slightly and brought a piece to his nose, sniffing distastefully. He knew that unpleasant smell, but from where.

Thump

Instinctively, Xerxes drew his sword, but he found several pointing at himself along with pistols cocked and ready to drill a hole inside him. Around them, he could see the members of his crew not going for their weapons choking and collapsing on the deck. He frowned slightly.

"Ah. Mutiny is it? And you only had to point two thirds of the crew. Such a shame. Lee had an excellent singing voice," Xerxes snarked. Jacob grimaced.

"You always did take things too lightly, Xerxes Gaspari and now you are paying for it," he told him before reaching out with his hand, "The map piece, if you please. I have already helped myself to the one in your room."

Xerxes sighed, presenting his former first mate with the map piece.

"A mutineer never dies well, my friend. Remember that."

"Well, it will be better than your death," he told him, aiming a pistol at his chest and shooting him before tossing him overboard into the waiting waves. He turned to Robyn and smiled.

"It's your ladyship's turn next."
