The Fortress - Avatar picked by Gaius, God of Earth
Alex maintains a nature that speaks to his raising: collected, quiet, and commanding. Every word never leaves his lips without serving a purpose and although sometimes his reasoning and rationalizing may seem simple and rushed, much like that of a charging bull, behind this simple-mindedness lies a complex being who is able to think on his feet.
Alex tends to shift towards the valor and justice sides of conflict - defending the weak like the chivalry of his hometown has taught him. Couple this with his ability to think on his feet and bleed passion through every decision and you have a formidable human physically and emotionally.
Despite this, his demeanor is not without its weakness. Although he may have an unshakable fortitude, old wounds from his childhood have left him a cold person, keeping others at a distance for the safety of his own heart. Much like an earth, Alexander has a core within him that is fragile and cracked. In the end, he would betray those closest to him if it meant keeping closely guarded secrets.
In manner of tools outside of weaponry, Alex keeps a pocket knife and a multipurpose tool in his back pocket always. The blade is one for combat, although it's more for sentimental value rather than combat purposes; the hilt and guard are ornamented with gold trim and a sapphire at the center of the base of the blade while the sheath, attached horizontally to the waist of Alex's pants, is made of leather taken from one of the first cows he slaughtered. The blade itself is an impeccable if not typical blade.
The multipurpose tool contains all manner of screwdriver, supplemental blade, wire cutters, and all manner of other tools carefully crafted into a polished gray rectangular shape. It usually rests in Alex's back pocket.
In terms of weaponry, Gaius taught him one technique, upon his first meeting, how to manipulate and purify metals telekinetically. Using these means, the blade of Alex's knife can be manipulated to different lengths, shapes, and even weapon types, but he can only reshape it to something of equal mass, requiring additional assistance of Alex ever wished to create more of a unique weapon.
In the deep subset of farming communities in the south, Alexander Montaigne grew up as the humble, well-mannered boy of David and Elizabeth Montaigne. As a boy he grew up on the farm, learning the tools of the trade of farm life, learning to and gaining the body necessary to handle farm work, to handle some of the hardest work in the harshest environments in his home country. His parents weren't always the most loving and supportive folk; David had a habit of partaking in too much liquor and while he wasn't abusive, throughout Alex's life, the relationship between his mother and himself fostered while eventually, his mother left his drunk, deadbeat of a father with nothing in a divorce settlement.
Forced to take up the role as the man of the house at 13, Alex tried never to sacrifice his school work for his farmwork. While there were always tradeoffs, Alex received a good quality education and managed supporting a full scale farm operation with little help. Thanks to this, Alex was always well disciplined and responsible, leading to a very successful high school career, save for one traumatizing moment. At the age of 17, he discovered his attraction to the same sex. All of his life, considering the community, it had been enforced that he should get settled early, get married, find contentment in the little things, but this little fact shook his world at his core. As he gradually came out of the closet, support was mixed and his mother eventually disowned him. After age 19, he moved to Edge City with his aunt and uncle.
Living in the city brought him a renewed freedom, as if the life he knew all along was only a part of a grander scheme of things. This alllowed him to sow social seeds, become an achieved worker in the city, even express his sexuality with little interference; nevertheless, his resentment and fear, to this day, has never ended; it's merely become attached to his core.
Until age 22, he had been normal. Then Gaius spoke to him.
One fateful night, upon a horrendous nightmare, the very ground within began to shake and shatter, the world of the dream was falling apart becaue the nightmare was just so terrifying. The smash of a ginormous staff upon the mental landscape seemed to calm it instantly and before him, as he cowered upon the rocky earth, stood a titanic being whose body seemed an impenetrable force to be reckoned with.
"Alexander Montaigne..." Gaius spoke, his voice a commanding wave of energy ringing the young man's core. "You, who would deny his own truth, have been chosen as my Avatar...."
Cowering upon the ground, Alex stared wide-eyed at the god, his appearance being an elder knight whose armor was interlinked at a core upon his chest that was as hard and as shimmering red with magma as the earth's core. Gaius and Alexander spoke a conversation of fortitue and grandeur.
Needless to say, if Alex was to be Gaius' champion, then it being the nature of his core, Alex would play through the games as best he could. The park awaited his shadow-casting arrival the night after.
