Adrien Murkos

"Would you stop struggling? You're worth a lot of money, and I'd rather not deliver you dead."

Description

Image

Dialogue Color: #A32727

Title/Alias/Nickname: Hunter of Dallea

Age: 30

Gender: Male

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual

Occupation: Bounty Hunter

Personality: Adrien is incredibly cold, quiet, and rather aloof. He doesn't exactly enjoy being around a lot of people, unless he knows them well enough. He's known to be rather harsh and inhumane towards Gijinka, treating them as though they're animals. He has a strong hate for them, especially after he received the burn he has around his left eye. He isn't very friendly to newcomers in the "Hunters of Dallea," seeing them as weak and annoying. He likes working solo, and sees that as when he works best, though if he must, he will work with a team. He's easily motivated by money, and is annoyed when he isn't given a good offer for whatever he's going after. He seems to be very sure of himself, thinking he can take on anything without the help of others, though that isn't always true. Adrien is very blunt as well, giving out his opinion without a second thought. He's usually seen with a cigarette in his mouth.

Strengths:
Leadership
  • Despite how cold and rude Adrien is, he does make a good leader, and usually can get those under his command to follow him and/or what he says.
Persistence
  • Adrien is known for finishing what he starts; especially when it comes to hunting Gijinka.
Stealthy
  • Adrien, due to all his time in hunting, is pretty stealthy, able to move around without being heard for the most part.
Weaknesses:
Blunt
  • Adrien is rather blunt, and it often offends people, the things he says. (not that he cares)
Cold
  • Adrien is rather cold, and often makes people around him feel nervous, as though they're always doing something wrong. He has hardly any friends because of it.
Short Temper
  • Adrien tends to get easily angered by simple things, and will snap at people he is annoyed with. He hardly ever apologizes for it.
Pokémon:
  • Luxray - Thunderbolt, Crunch, Protect, Wild Charge
  • Weavile - Metal Claw, Night Slash, Dark Pulse, Ice Beam
  • Pyroar - Flamethrower, Endeavor, Fire Fang, Retaliate
  • Haxorus - Outrage, Dragon Claw, Poison Jab, Rock Slide
  • Gallade - Leaf Blade, Close Combat, Psycho Cut, Shadow Ball
  • Noivern - Dragon Pulse, Fly, Boomburst, Psychic
Appearance: Adrien reaches 6'1" in height, and 160 pounds in weight. He has a burn around his right eye, which he received from a Gijinka he tried to catch.

Sparta's eyes narrowed as the Gijinka tried crawling away, and the Hunter crouched on the rumbling pavement, poised to attack yet again. However, her gaze was diverted by the entrance of two of her colleagues- one being Burton Strange himself, founder of the Hunters. Now putting in twice the effort to impress the founder, Sparta leapt at the Umbreon Gijinka. Trying to wrestle him to the ground and keep the Charizard out of his grasp, she glanced up briefly to see the Charizard dip under the Noivern. Her venomous glare shot back to her prey, and she tensed up her muscles and hoped to knock him out with a dizzying punch. With the Umbreon on the ground, hopefully the Trainer could be chased away and they could finally capture the infamous Kenji Akamaru. "Come on, Gijinka scum! Your fight is up!" she hissed, her golden eyes blazing with frustration at the way this Gijinka kept slipping out of their grasp like a flopping Magikarp.

"shit shit shit!" Kenji's breathing quickened, close to a hyperventilation, as he noticed the two new hunters who had arrived, specifically two he recognized as two of the three founders of the Hunters of Dallea, Burton Strange and Adrien Murkos. All hope he'd had at all had just been crushed at the sight of them, and cast over the edge into a dark pit. The hunter that had been here for long enough had already done so much damage to him; he didn't like to imagine what her and those two could do all together at once.

It seemed the human girl from before realized that this wasn't a fight they could take, or at least not today, and she began to lower down to try and grab him again with her Charizard, though a Noivern from one of founders seemed to slow her down. He forced himself to get back up from off his good side again and to begin crawling away yet again, hoping to perhaps grab onto the Pokémon, though was caught by Sparta yet again, who leapt onto him. He let out a startled yell, and immediately tried to turn or perhaps knock her off of his back somehow, though all the movement and the weight of the Hunter on top of him wasn't helping his pain, nor was it helping with the fact that he was struggling to keep himself holding on to his conscience.

"Come on, Gijinka scum! Your fight is up!" Sparta's yelling made Kenji's eyes widen, and then narrow again, an angry, hateful glare coming to his face. "I'm not letting you sadists take me!" He snapped, and he suddenly twisted himself to the side, enough to knock Sparta off of him again, which wasn't a surprise with the tremors still inflicting the ground. He quickly began moving himself away again, before he spotted Charizard again, who happened to knock over a Hawlucha Kenji hadn't noticed before.

As the Charizard began to approach, Kenji quickly began to move up, struggling to get on his feet, but knowing they had a better chance of grabbing him, or him grabbing onto the Pokémon...anything, to get him out of this place, and away from the hunters attacking him. He held his hand to his side, grimacing at the pain, and the warmth of blood on his hand that had darkened the color of his clothes around his wound. He felt dizzy, and hoped to Arceus that the girl grabbed him before Sparta tackled him to the ground again.

Image

"Hm, looks like you won't be an easy opponent." Adrien muttered under his breath, watching the Charizard dodge Noivern's attack at the last second, though it did manage to catch the Charizards tail; he had to give himself and the Pokémon credit for that. Yet it still hadn't made enough contact to do any disabling damage; the giant, orange dragon was still flying down, getting closer to the ground, likely to snatch up the Gijinka so the pair could make their escape...though Sparta seemed to be helping in making that more and more difficult, and the Gijinka wasn't looking too good, his face looking rather pale, blood dropping from his nose, and the injury at his side having bled quite a bit into his clothes. It wouldn't be a suprise if he passed out right where he was.

"Give up already, dammit." Adrien hissed beside Burton, taking a few more steps forward and coming much further out now that the Metang had stopped its attack and was back inside its Pokéball, before his eyes laid back onto Noivern, a nasty, malicious look in his eyes.

"You've got a clear shot, take down the Charizard!" Adrien snapped, becoming impatient as the time went on. They'd chased after the resistance member for too long; he wasn't going to let the bastard escape again. "Use Dragon Pulse again!"

Burton gritted his teeth as the Charizard made contact with Hawlucha, sending the poor bird crashing to the ground, as the dragon narrowly missed grabbing the Gijinka. His hand was already reaching for another ball, as Sparta laid into the hooded figure with a flurry of punches and kicks. At least she is actually helping in this fight, I'll give her that. Their target looked weak and weary, sporting multiple wounds over his body, and was close to defeat... but Burton knew better than to trust the result of this battle to fate, and as he drew Greninja's ball, he cast a glance to the trainer on the Charizard, circling above the buildings, and he couldn't help but wonder why she would risk her life to protect this vermin.

"Greninja! Take down the Umbreon gijinka! Use Ice Beam!"

The Greninja emerged from its ball, and quickly scanned for its target. It didn't have a clear shot, thanks to Sparta, so it started to dash forward, hoping to flank around for a better angle of attack. Meanwhile, darkness enveloped the ground around Burton, shadows drawing closer and closer, and he glanced up to the sky once again.

Jaime glanced backwards as they climbed above the buildings, realising that they hadn't picked up the gijinka. She cursed under her breath, and evaluated the situation. There was no obligation to go back for him, and no sane reason to, but the voice of her mind told her what she was condemning this man to if she abandoned him here, and in many ways, this whole fight had been her fault. If she hadn't been so curious as to whether or not Gijinkas were a real thing, he'd have continued on his path, undisturbed, with nothing more than a mutual apology.

In her heart she knew that turning around was the right thing to do, but also a foolish thing too - Charizard couldn't take much more of a beating right now, and she knew it was a big ask of him to go back - it was too late now, she had to do it.

"We have to go back for him, even if it is a bad idea." Jaime stated. The Charizard growled, his head turning back to the right, casting a tilted glare at Jaime, as if to suggest that she must be joking. "I'm serious. If we leave, we sentence him to a painful death at the hands of those monsters. I can't do that, can you?" Again the Charizard growled, his head hanging low. After a moment, he dipped to the right, taking Jaime and himself back towards the fight. With a roar, he plunged, gathering speed, soaring past the Noivern who had caught up with them again before it could launch a second attack. Jaime held on for dear life, as they drew closer to ground level. "Give 'em hell, bud!" Charizard sent a stream of flames out towards the two men who had joined the fight late, before levelling out, speeding towards the gijinka and his attacker. With a roar, he muscled past the Greninja who was moving forward to ready an attack, and with his arms forward, scooped up the Gijinka from behind, carrying him above the buildings.

Sparta's fists landed with satisfying give, sinking into the outlaw and causing him some obvious pain. She smiled sadistically, only glancing up at all to see the Pokemon- Burton's, she thought- approaching. Leaping out of the way of the frog Pokemon's attack, she watched in horror as the large orange Charizard swooped and snatched up the Umbreon Gijinka. Grinding her teeth in frustration, the Hunter retreated back to her comrades, watching in fury and bated breath as the two rose higher into the air. There was nothing she could do but watch as the unlikely pair retreated over the skyline and the city started to buzz back to life. She hung her head in shame, hardly daring to look up at the two men she was working with. "So what do we do now?" All of her Pokemon were knocked out, Adrien's probably weren't in much shape to pursue or battle much longer- plus, they weren't even hers to command. "Are we going after them? I might be able to pick up my Pokemon from the Center and we could track them..." she suggested, trying to remember exactly where the center was- not far, maybe down the street a few buildings. She waited for some command before running off again.

He'd nearly fallen down onto his knees when Jaime had missed again, beginning to give in to his dizziness, before he heard the Charizard's wings flapping around closer again, and he'd barely glanced behind himself before he felt the Pokémon's hands curling around him and lifting him right off the ground, carrying him above the buildings. Looking down at the ground, he could see the look of defeat on the Hunters' faces, or at least, he hoped that's what he was seeing form all the way up where he was now.

The sharp movements of the Charizard as it flew through the sky and away from the battlefield were rather painful to Kenji, and he gritted his teeth, letting out heavy breaths...but even through the pain, he felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude...towards the girl. A human.

The wasn't like him. He'd thought all the humans were the same, even the ones from Merrima, but now this trainer, of all people, was helping him. Where had she come from? This couldn't be normal, right? But the truth was right in his face. She was helping him...she'd even risked being harmed during the fight to do so. He'd never heard of anything like it before.

"Thank...you..." He muttered through his heavy breathing, though he was sure she likely didn't even hear it.

Image

"Damn." Adrien cursed as the Charizard easily flew past his Noivern and its attack, and then swept up the Gijinka, taking to the air yet again immediately after. The spray of flames that had nearly come into contact the hunter's face hadn't helped either, and he had to jump back if he didn't want to lose another section of his face to an ugly, scarred burn.

He watched, his face twisted in anger, as the Umbreon Gijinka managed to get away, out of their hands, their grip, yet again. He quickly turned to the Noivern, and returned it to its Pokéball, slinging it on his belt and then brushing off his hands on his pants.

He spotted Sparta approaching them, her head lowered, and his angry expression seemed to leave for a moment, though it was still painfully could. He couldn't lose his cool in front of her right now, it would only make things worse...not that this situation could get any worse than it already was, yet still...

"No, we aren't chasing after him. We don't have any Pokémon in a good enough condition to follow them, and by the time you manage to get your Pokémon out of the Center, they'll both be long gone." He replied, his voice cold. "It would be better to just return to the HQ, after this complete failure."

Burton's eyes flashed in panic as he realised the Charizard was coming for him. He took a small stumble backwards, before throwing himself to the right, out of the path of the flames, rolling on to one knee. As he rose from his kneel, he was helpless to prevent the Charizard from sweeping up the gijinka, and carrying him over the buildings to the South. He cursed under his breath, as his eyes returned to the chaotic mess of the street. It would not be long until security arrived, if they weren't already almost upon the scene. Burton brought back his Hawlucha and Greninja, before turning towards the alley from which Adrien and himself had arrived.

"We would be wise not to dally. There aren't too many places they will be likely to go, with such wounds to the Gijinka. Fetch your pokemon, and return to HQ, Sparta. Adrien... it's time we paid our friends in the countryside a visit, don't you think?"

He was furious about the result of the battle... the fact that they had been outrun by a little girl and a weak Gijinka... there was little point in dwelling on it now. He made his way into the alley, quickly, without waiting for any further responses.

Sparta hated losing.

She'd had issues with it since childhood, her competitive streak often leading her to get into fights and eventually bringing her to lead martial arts. She'd lost a few scuffles way back in the day, and maybe a couple missions since she began, but nothing compared to the crushing feeling that infected her as they watched the Trainer and the outlaw soar away into the sky. Sparta kicked a stone, shuffling into the Pokemon Center and waiting for the Nurse to bring out her Pokemon. Retrieving Heracross, the Hunter rolled the ball around in her hands, watching the lights play off the shiny red top. Allowing the Nurse to take the Bug Pokemon, Sparta left with the remainder of her party and headed back in the dusk light to the HQ. This day had been exhausting- particularly this evening. Sparta couldn't wait to head back home to her tiny apartment on the fringe of Cobrapeak and crash.

Pushing the door open with a click, Sparta glanced at the empty cages. Shocked, she doubled back and made certain that they were absolutely empty. What sort of person with a death wish would enter the Hunter HQ and release three captive Gijinka?! Cursing in frustration, Sparta frantically tried to figure out how this had happened- preferably before the Founders returned.

Adrien trailed silently behind Sparta, with Burton close by his side, as he tried to think through everything that had just happened. They'd been "defeated" by some random trainer who just happened to be nearby. It had been three versus one and a half (the Umbreon Gijinka was basically done for by the time they'd arrived)...how the hell had they gotten away? They should have been so easily...defeated...

He let out an annoyed growl, shoving his hands into his pockets as he thought of it. They'd been so close to taking out the Gijinka...wuld have gotten a hefty price for him as well, probably from the DISR, after all the damage he'd done himself. He'd gotten himself a rather notorious name around Cobrapeak. They could have gotten information from him too...it wasn't a secret that he was apart of the resistance.

"Dammit, this is ridiculous." He hissed, mostly to himself, as he continued walking. "If that girl hadn't shown up..." He shook his head, and then sped up his pace, finally seeing the old building ahead of them.

Sparta disappeared into the building rather suddenly, and he could already tell something was wrong. Starting in a jog, he moved up to the door, and opened it, only to be faced with a disaster of an office, and the cages that had originally held the Gijinka that him and Sparta had caught were indeed missing. His face twisted in anger as he saw it, and his hand balled up into a fist.

"What the hell...is this?" His voice had become quiet, but was clearly full of anger. He was shaking where he stood as he looked around at the place.

As if this day couldn't get any worse.

Sparta had returned swiftly from her trip to the pokemon center, having caught up with Adrien and Burton as they strolled through the alleys, silently seething over their failure as the day's light faded. Burton knew that Adrien would take this event heavily - he had known him long enough to sense it without words, and whilst the cold demeanor on Adrien's face never faltered or showed anger, he feared the storm coming would cloud his judgement in events to come. As if on cue, he opened his mouth to vent.

"Dammit, this is ridiculous." The words seemed to trail into a growl, as they approached the HQ entrance alley. "If that girl hadn't shown up...." Adrien shook his head in frustration, before picking up speed, as the entrance drew closer.

"There will be more opportunities soon, Adrien." Burton assured him with a sigh, nudging the bridge of his glasses with his hand before also picking up the pace. "Our 'friends' will get what's coming to them, soon enough, starting with that hovel, Merrima."

Sparta had gone ahead of them, into the HQ, and Adrien seemed to pick up on something wrong, breaking into a jog before entering the HQ. Burton entered a few moments later, and his jaw almost dropped. The main holding room was trashed. Papers and furniture had been toppled, and the cages... were empty. The locks had not been forced; someone had opened the doors for them. "...Are you fucking kidding me?"

Burton dashed towards the office. The place was in turmoil - all of the papers he had organized on gijinka research had been strewn across the floor and desk, the drawers were ajar and in disarray... someone even had the nerve to take a swig from his whiskey bottle, judging by the fact that the stopper was lying on the desk. Looking through the drawers, he could not find the key ring for the cages - it had been taken. Burton growled loudly in anger. "... Bastards! Whoever did this must have a deathwish!"

Sparta scuffed her boots on the floor of the HQ. Her eyes roamed between the cages until she felt Adrien brush past- cursing as he saw the same thing she just had. Burton seemed in no better mood- both angered even beyond Sparta's own fury. "My concerns exactly. Who- or what- could just breeze in and release Gijinka without us even receiving note of it? No tracks, either." Sparta stalked around the holding room, trying to find any sort of sign that could lead to a culprit. Her untrained eyes were unable to pick up on anything- maybe on of the other two would have some luck. Tapping her foot in anger, Sparta sighed. "Not much we can do tonight. Those two ended off the day spectacularly." She turned, facing Burton as he examined the mess on his desk. "Merrima, tomorrow? It's the most likely place to house Gijinka outlaws. Or maybe that forest near there- it's always hiding a secret or two." she mused, wondering if the authorities had caught wind of their scuffle. Surely Adrien and Burton had it under control- she, the newbie, didn't have anything to worry about. Except the rage of her superiors.

Burton paced the office, looking at the debris strewn across the room, trying to make sense of the bigger picture... Not many people knew about the Hunter's HQ existing in Cobrapeak, much less its actual location. No-one had crossed their path in the alleys, and it was unlikely that a citizen would venture this far off the main streets without purpose. A thought flared in Burton's mind - what if the intruder had been here all along? He pondered on it. No-one outside of the Hunters had come in this morning since he had started his research and went on watch duty. Sparta had left very early, along with a few of the others who had set off towards Oneta Forest and Lapras Beach. The scouts were still in the field, and no-one had returned before Adrien came back, with 3 gijinka in tow.

The gijinka... all were subdued and unconcscious when they arrived. Adrien locked the gates - he didn't question whether they were secured... Adrien was not the foolish type to be complacent. Could another person have slipped in to the HQ whilst they were distracted?... No... Adrien closed the door behind him after he brought in the Stantler gijinka, and it was unlikely that an intruder slipped past both of them whilst they were staring at the door... unless, they couldn't be seen... a ghost?

A ghost... It slowly dawned on Burton's face. There was another gijinka... He scrambled to sort through the paperwork that remained in drawers, looking for any and all data he had compiled on Ghost-type gijinka - it was a rare subject to even spot, and if there was a way to track it down, its capture could secure a massive sum for the hunters. Burton licked his lips, bundled up a few folders, and returned into the main lobby, where Adrien and Sparta had stood for some time.

"What if... the intruder had been here this whole time, and we just never saw it?" Burton asked, almost rhetorically, glancing to Adrien. "What if there was a fourth gijinka, and we just never saw it? A ghost, if you like."

Adrien moved over to the open cages, looking over the doors. There hadn't been any damage to the doors, or the locks, so there wasn't any way they had perhaps managed to get through their "security" by attacking and damaging it. But did they have the keys? There was no way they would have been able to reach far enough to get to where they were stored...and yet, the keys were gone from their place, and no where to be found on the ground, the wall, or anywhere. How had they even known where it was placed when they'd been unconscious...unable to see, during the time he'd locked them in?

"It's clear someone broke in." Adrien said, slamming one of the cage doors shut before turning back aroung and leaning against the walls with his arms crossed. He'd already lost his cool; he thought he'd had at least one success today, which had been good enough to at least let him get over the events with the trainer and the Umbreon, but now...now both had turned into absolute failures. He was disgusted.

"A ghost?" Adrien said, turning to Burton as he reappeared into the disaster of a lobby. "That's highly unlikely, but possible." He paused for a moment, putting a hand up to his chin in thought. "I've never actually seen a Ghost Gijinka myself, though with how this place is looking, with no footprints, and nothing we can use to trace it, I wouldn't doubt it." A Ghost Gijinka would fetch them a high price, if they managed to get ahold of it. They were quite rare; he knew that for a fact.

"Even so, we've got no chance on finding it now. We wouldn't know how far it had gotten after it had left." Adrien sighed. "I say we simply keep a watch out for it, but continue with what we're doing, as annoying as it is. He stood back up from the wall, glancing over to Sparta for a short moment, and then back to Burton. "I say we stick to our plans on Merrima, like Sparta said. Perhaps, if we're lucky, we'll come across the ghost there. What do you say, Burton?"

Sparta waited with bated breath as the two men confirmed what she'd suspected. Ghost Gijinka... that certainly would be a rare find, and easily be something to lift her foul mood at the failures of the day. Such a thing could sell for incredible amounts of money. Shifting her weight, Sparta watched Adrien speak. He made a very good point, she had to admit. The day's events had given her a newfound respect for the struggles of the Hunters- especially Burton and Adrien. She met his eyes as he glanced over, and quickly looked away towards the floor. "Merrima is a good place to look. It has a ton of those Gijinka-loving people. They'd certainly help an outcast like Kenji. Burton?" Sparta enforced Adrien's inquiry, hoping that they could move on and get something done. She hadn't felt so unsuccessful in her entire career, and frankly, she was incredibly irritated by it.

Sparta tried to remember when she'd last been to Merrima. It had certainly been a while, that she was sure. She did remember the stubborn villagers though- her last Merrima venture hadn't gone as smoothly as the Hunters would have hoped. She'd gone after one of the Rebellion leaders- she hadn't know that back then- and the Gijinka was still out and about recruiting other freaks for their 'cause'. It was trying her morale to not know what had happened to her failed mission. Ever since, she'd been trying extra hard to succeed. Even then, Sparta knew she wasn't the most skilled Hunter on the team. But as long as she could help Adrien and Burton capture the Gijinka, she'd cut herself some slack.

Burton nodded in agreement with his colleagues, as Merrima had been his primary target since the gijinka, 'Kenji', slipped away from them. He glanced around the chaos that lay around the headquarters, and looked at a clock on the wall - it was growing late in the day.

"The Umbreon gijinka will be seeking medical attention, and even if they are in Merrima Village, he won't be in a good fighting condition in the next 12 hours. We must send our scouts to keep watch for any strange activity around the village." Burton cast looks between Sparta and Adrien, expecting mild disdain from the already frustrated duo. He couldn't blame them, of course - it had been a rough day for all, and one that bore no fruit - but they needed to steel their resolve for the next fight, and not take any chances this time. "Prepare yourselves for the journey, and get some shut-eye - we leave at first light. In the meantime... I'll sort out this mess..."

He turned, slowly heading back towards the desk, before gathering all of the papers that lay on the floor, and returning them in a rough bundle to rest on the tabletop. He breathed a sigh, looking down at the disarray before his eyes, cursed under his breath, and took a long swig from the whisky bottle.

As he started to sift through the papers, trying to re-order them, his mind started to drift in reflection of the day's events, and the actions of his team. Despite her naivety, Sparta had handled herself well in combat, against two opponents, and he did not question that she had commitment to the Hunters... however in her desperation to prove her worth, she had recklessly risked not only her own life, but the lives of innocent bystanders. The Hunters of Dallea were nothing more than an urban legend to most, and while it was possible to sway the authorities in their favour, it was for the greater good that the public did not know of their existence or purpose. Adrien had done his best to chase away the trainer who had aided the gijinka, and his pokemon had done their utmost - this day would not sit well on his shoulders, but after all these years, he knew Adrien would be capable of seeing tomorrow for a new day.

Adrien nodded, satisfied with everyone's agreement to the idea, before he himself began to move around to help straighten up the place, seeing it as the most he could do at the time being. Besides, he hated it looking like a mess, when him and Burton did their best to keep everything as straightened up and organized as possible.

"Yes, to be sure to catch him before he's in a good condition, let's leave as soon as possible tomorrow morning. I'm sure, if we do find him there, we can easily scare the villagers away once we start a fight. We don't need any others interfeering, like the trainer from before." He paused, setting the straightened pile of papers he had on the cleared table. "We'll likely have to plan more once we are heading there, or before we leave for rest tonight."

"Prepare yourselves for the journey, and get some shut-eye - we leave at first light. In the meantime... I'll sort out this mess..." Adrien gave a quick nod to Burton at his words, and set down his next pile of papers in the same spot as before, before deciding to at least help with picking up a couple other things before he was going to get the things he needed for tomorrow. "You do the same, Burton. If you really want to at least get everything off the floor and into neat piles again and all their original places, be my guest, but you need sleep as well, so forget about organizing until tomorrow. That would take up too much of your night."

"Though, I do think I should leave now." He said, looking up at the clock on the wall that gave off a perpetual click as each second passed. "I need to get a replacement key, and perhaps a spare too, for the cages, so we can actually lock them..." He rubbed the sides of his head in annoyance, as if he had a headache, before grabbing his case that had been sitting by the door. "That being said, I will see you both tomorrow morning."

With those simple words, he had left the building.

Sparta hadn't rested well. Her mind had been top-notch racing, and she'd tossed and turned with her paranoia for today. She'd been on missions plenty before, but not it was with high-ranking officials after high-prize targets. She couldn't fail; that she knew. Sparta also was faced with a ridiculous phobia that she'd run into her father- last she'd heard, he was in Hoenn studying urban Gijinka legends. But still her mind raced.

Now she stood by the side of her uncomfortable cot, packing her meager belongings into a small bag to take with her. She'd packed similar things as to when she'd been a traveling Trainer- Pokemon, medicine, food, clothes. She slung the pack over her shoulder, taking a deep breath and quick gaze around her apartment before allowing herself to exit the cramped space and head down the stairs. Composing herself as she took the short walk to the HQ, Sparta tried to summon some sort of cheer. After all, they'd be traveling a bit today, and traveling with a moody, glum person was almost worse than an annoying one. Sparta gathered herself, entering the lobby to greet her partners. Hopefully this day would be far more prosperous than yesterday. Arceus knew they needed a break.

They took the trek to Merrima, and it was only as they were about to enter the Village that Sparta felt rather uneasy. It was more of a discomfort than a real premonition, but she was sure to stay on high alert as they approached the tiny civilization.

Burton continued to sort through the papers and mess, after Adrien and Sparta had both left for the evening, despite Adrien's advice. He seemed set on restoring order to affairs, after all of their failings this day. All of the records and files were now on the desk, and the floor was clear, so he set to work re-ordering and filing the records into the drawers. After a few minutes, he stopped dead in his tracks, his gaze locked on one of the file names: Elizabeth Bruer.

Ellie. It has been so long... seven years.

Casting aside the other files, he flipped open this particular file, sitting down in the chair, bottle of whisky in hand. He glanced towards the lobby, making sure that he was alone. The first page listed the details of capture of an Espeon gijinka named Elizabeth Bruer, aged 26 when she was caught by the Hunters. A photo is clipped on the top right, of her face, and Burton is transfixed. Despite her sad expression in the photo, seeing her face triggered memories to race wild through his mind. You had the most beautiful eyes, Ellie. I only wish I could see them once more. He took a swig from the bottle, and flipped the page, his head running rampant with the last days he spent with her.

"Burton... Burton? Come on, we're going to be late for dinner with __________!
"I won't be long, Ellie. Just finishing some paperwork."
"You really should stop taking your work home with you, darling."
"If only it were that simple, my dear... I'll make it up to you soon."
"Just tell Adrien you'll do it tomorrow.
Adrien....

"Do you remember when we met, Ellie?"
"Summer, three years ago. You were stalking deer in the forest, and you walked right into me!
"Heh... deer... Why did you come with me that day?"
"I was alone, and finally I thought I'd found someone who likes to explore just as much as me."
"... And I'm glad to have met you. Ellie, I need to ask you a question."
"Of course, darling. Anything."
"Who is Adrien?"
"Your workmate, silly."
"Ellie, I've never once called Adrien by his name in front of you, or told you about what I really do... so how do you know about him?"
"... I... read your mind, darling."
"You... ... You're a gijinka?!"
"... Yes."
"... How much do you know about me? What do you know about my job?"
"Everything, Burton. Adrien, the Hunters, the experiments. Everything."
"You've stayed with me, this entire time, knowing what I have done to others like you?"
"You do what you feel is in the best interests of humanity, even if it is morally wrong... Understanding people 'like me', and our abilities, will help generations in the future. That's what I learned from you, and I admire you for it."
"..."
"What now, dear? Are you going to sell me off to the lab, like all the other prize specimens?"
"... No... I have another question for you."
"What would you like to know?"
"Ellie... will you marry me?"
"..."

Burton awoke with a jolt. He must have dozed off without realizing. The clock on the wall reads 4.15am, and Burton realized it was time to get a move on if he was going to make it to Merrima Village ahead of the morning village business. He the photo of Ellie from the file, and placed it inside his jacket pocket. From a cupboard, he took a few items for his pokemon, namely potions, and left the HQ. He stopped by the pokemon center, before heading out, taking flight on the back of his Garchomp, setting course towards Merrima.

They kept low as they drew nearer the village a few hours later, coming to land by the roadside. He spotted Sparta in the distance, with her rather eccentric hair, and he moved to catch up with her on foot, bringing back Garchomp.

Adrien himself seemed to have slept the best out of the three, despite how he had been feeling before. After he'd gotten three keys to go with the cage (three, instead of one, because he felt like it would be best to simply keep some extras in store in case something similar to today's events happened again) and stopped by the Pokémon Center to rest his Pokémon for a bit and get the care they needed, he'd made his way to his home apartment, a rather fancy, spacious, but expensive one, that he never would have been able to afford before he took up the business of the Hunters with himself and the other two founders of the organization. To be completely honest, he'd be broke without the money they made nowadays.

After finishing up all of the things he felt he needed to do before sleep, as well as trying to figure out some kind of way they could successfully get into Merrima without getting chased out, he made his way for his bed, feeling exhausted with the day's turn of events. To think that they'd failed so miserably...

He'd fallen asleep in his bed without realizing it, and had woken up to his alarm early in the morning; a rather unpleasent time of 3:30 am, so that he could get ready for the day and gather the supplies he needed, with extra time to spare at the end. When he'd finally left his place and gotten out of the building, he found Cobrapeak to be rather empty, or at least compared to how it was in the morning. It was still full of traffic, but flowed much more smoothly, and there weren't nearly as many people moving out and around outside. He found it relaxing, to say the least, and disappointing that he had to leave the giant city at a wonderful time like this.

Moving into one of the alleyways to keep from startling any of those passing by or walking down the streets, Adrien released his Noivern from its pokéball, before climbing onto its back, and they made for the air. It didn't take him and his Pokémon much time to get out of Cobrapeak and in the direction of Merrima, and though the hours it took to cover the rest of the distance felt as if they were dragging along for an eternity, and finally he could see the village a little ways away. He made for the ground, after spotting Sparta and Burton a little ways away, having met together before him it seemed.

"An early good morning to you both. I hope you slept well. You're going to need the energy if we want this to go smoothly." Adrien said as he approached the two of them, returning his Noivern to its pokéball shortly after. "But besides the fact of sleep, are you both ready?"
