Kale gave a small smile. "I wasn't nervous, I was more just... terrified I guess." He shrugged. "I'd never seen anything like that. I guess my adrenaline was really pumping too. I didn't know I could do all the things I did, and half the time I didn't even know what I was doing." He sighed, thinking of the battle. He could still remember the distinct crack he had heard when he'd pried the shell off of it's back. It was an experience he never wanted to repeat, that was for sure.
"But it's over now. It's dead. Now we just have to figure out where it came from." He paused. "And if there are more..." He hoped with all his hear there weren't. "But really what's the chance that there are more of those? One was more than enough."
He looked around. He glanced at the centipede and shivered at it's limps twitching. "Erm, why don't we go and find those blasted horses, and then maybe we can find a lake like you said. It might not be a good idea to go to a town, we'd risk being recognized." He noted aloud, remembering what Anne had said just a few seconds before.
He noted with slight annoyance that the birds were chirping happily in the trees. He wondered how they could just act like nothing had happened after the monster had been slain. Kale also noticed that the forest seemed... happier. As if the mere fact that the bug had been alive was what had made it appear so sinister before.
Thinking of the horses again, he glanced over where he had last seen them. On the ground a trail of hoof prints lead into the woods. He noted the way the horses' hooves had dug into the earth. They had obviously been very frantic to get away. He figured they would have a hard time calming them. What with the fact that the two of them were covered in bug guts, and that they had almost been eaten by a giant insect. He couldn't really blame them. Normal sized bugs scared a lot of people.
"Well we can start with their tracks." Kale could only hope they would indeed find their horses. If they didn't than all of their supplies, their food, their blankets, their, money... It was all gone.
