Name: Avalyn Ramona Newton
Nickname: Ava
Age: 18
Power: Gravity Manipulation: Ramona can control the force of gravity acting upon herself and anybody/anything else within a ten meter radius of herself. This range can increase depending on her emotions and energy levels; anger, anxiety and similar negative feelings increase her range and to what extent she can manipulate gravity, but positive feelings have little or no effect on her abilities. So far, Avalyn has successfully been able to decrease the force of gravity acting on herself to the point where she can take a flying leap with one step. However, she has experienced difficulty with performing the same trick on other people, although moderate success has been observed upon inanimate objects. Increasing the force of gravity comes more easily to her; she can easily make it very difficult for anyone to lift a finger, let alone move a muscle. Her range has been increasing slowly ever since she turned sixteen years old, so she has obviously not yet reached the peak of her powers. Ava's ability has the potential to selectively deprive anyone of their ability to move, thus reducing the level of danger around herself. Creative manipulation could possibly have very disastrous consequences.
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Which Side?: Apparently evil. Ava was reluctant to find out which side she was on, but ultimately had no choice in the matter because she was told anyways. She doesn't feel particularly inclined towards violence or homicidal tendencies, but she supposes it'll come eventually if she really, truly is evil. At the moment she's not too concerned with what is expected of her due to her nature, but still finds the prospect very uncomfortable to consider too often.
Likes: Crossword puzzles, pranks, sports (especially volleyball, since she can control the ball and win every game), betting, cats, physics and drinking.
Dislikes: Pink erasers, suspense, drama, insects/arachnids, brats, holier-than-thou attitudes, lizards and math.
Fears: Some claustrophobia, a very healthy and very strong loathing of insects, and drowning.
Personality: Avalyn is a sarcastic teenager with a prankster streak a mile wide. Her tendency to cause mischief was always something to ease her boredom, but lately she's started to suspect it might be a symptom of her darker side. She has a short temper with a bluntness that can be rude at times, but she hates beating around the bush and doesn't care much about sparing peoples feelings when she can be brutally honest instead. Ava's abilities with gravity manipulation have earned her quite a reputation because she has no qualms with using other students as her guinea pigs if they piss her off. For all that she can be insensitive, she's also very loyal and approachable. She doesn't hold grudges for long so it's no surprise if she glares at you one day, but sits with you at lunch the next.
History: Avalyn began expressing her powers from the crib when she was barely six months old. Her small hands waved up at the planet mobile that hung above her, wanting it to move in circles... and then Jupiter started floating in the air, the string yanking to the right hard enough to send the mobile spinning. Her parents didn't realize what was happening until she was sent home from school one day, suspended for tripping a girl on the stairs and breaking her arm in the process. Avalyn maintained that it wasn't her fault--the girl had been a a mean bully, and when she was going down the stairs her knees buckled and she tumbled down to the floor in a heap. In reality, Ava had accidentally increased the gravity acting on her as a natural reaction to her emotional state. It wasn't until her parents began seeing a pattern here that they pulled her out of school and started looking for some special help.
Help, it seemed, came in the form of Maldoy Academy where Avalyn was sent as soon as it became apparent that there was hope for her yet. A building full of other freaks like her? It was nothing short of a blessing for Mr and Mrs Newton, who had become more than disturbed at Avalyn's tendency to alternately make things fall and rise at whim. They even refused to have any more children after her, afraid that they'd pass on the mutant gene and have more kids with Ava's unusual ability.
Upon arriving at Maldoy, it became apparent that Avalyn didn't need to hide her skills anymore... and that's when the fun began. She quickly found her niche as a small time prankster and began honing her skills by playing little tricks on people, such as making everyone's textbooks too heavy to carry or making their pencils float out of reach. It started off small, but eventually Avalyn's pranks got more and more creative... and possibly a bit dangerous the day she lost her temper in the kitchen. Before she knew it, all the utensils and cutlery were levitating out of the drawers, sharp blades pointed in every direction and glinting dangerously. It took her a moment to calm down when she realized what she'd been about to do, but the damage had been done. She'd always been a prankster, but now? Now everyone knew she was supposed to be evil, and that her pranks might not be so harmless anymore. Avalyn didn't think she was any different for being evil as opposed to good, but she's become keenly aware that other people might not agree; the fact that their opinion of her has changed disturbs her. She enjoyed being the resident prankster, but now she hates having to be careful around everyone lest they think she's going to stab them. She's afraid of making mistakes now, and of losing her temper because the consequences won't be pretty. Her friends are already few and far between; she doesn't want to estrange them, and so the division between the student body continues to take a toll...

Anything else: As a means to distract herself from the political drama taking place in the Academy, Avalyn has decided to learn how to play the guitar. She's atrocious, but she tries to practice in her room where no one can hear...
