Kurt used to live outside a town many miles away from Still Creek. There he made a living selling meat he hunted to the butcher and foraging/making whatever else he couldn't afford. Kurt didn't know about the zombies until one attacked his dog outside his cabin. After that, Kurt drove until he ran out of gas, then trekked the rest of the way to Still Creek. He always assumed that society would do itself in, but from more natural causes, like revolt or economic collapse. He thought he was prepared, and when it comes to his skills, he was, but when you see the man you sold meat to for three years eat your dog alive, you realize that you weren't as ready as you thought.
