The way to the Bahari’s proved to be a difficult trip. All of the captains were forced to maneuver rowboats through the swampy area of Tortuga. Lucian and Jules were in the rowboat behind La Gata and Victoria. Although Lucian might as well be in the boat by himself for all the help Jules was providing. While the surly captain was no longer drunk, he was suffering from lack of sleep and kept dozing off every now and then causing Lucian to work twice as hard to carry both of their weight in the small boat.
Just as Bahari’s house came into view, the sun began to set. Lucian was relieved to know that they were there, he was ready to get this blood pact done and over with.
After Catalina instructed them on what to do, she placed a few coins on a ledge and the door opened to reveal the man that must be Bahari. He definitely looked like a voodoo man with his outlandish appearance. Greeting them, the man let them in. Lucian nodded at him as he passed by.
Upon entering the wooden house, Lucian was filled with uneasiness. Something about this place wasn’t quite right, he almost felt as if he was being watched. The captain made sure to be on guard, readying himself to leave at the slightest hint of danger.
Bahari seemed to know everything about them, without ever being informed of anything. Lucian was shocked to find that he knew exactly what it was they were seeking. After the man finished speaking, Victoria thanked him for seeing them. The captain didn't pay much attention to that as he was ready to be done with this.
Ignoring the eerie feeling he had, Lucian said, “If you know what we want, then what it is it that you need us to do to form the blood pact?”
The man smiled at Lucian's question. "Eager to get started, I see. Well, if you would all come and stand in the circle over here." He gestured to a circle that had been drawn onto the floor out of some kind of paint.
Once they had all entered the circle Bahari continued talking. "Before we begin, you must all know that this is not for free. You will have to pay a price. I ask not for riches, but for a favor. I cannot tell you what the favor will be, but in the future there will be a time when I ask something of the three of you and you must promise that you will agree. This pact will ensure that you do."
Lucian contemplated his options before he agreed to the terms. He didn't like owing people favors, but he supposed he could make an exception just this once. It couldn't be anything too bad. "I promise," he said to Bahari before looking to his fellow captains.
With a scowl, Jules broke his silence and said, "I don't trust a mangy old man as yourself, but I want to get out of this place so you have my word."
