Cassiel always tries to dress his best, it's merely a personal preference. Button downs, jeans, anything classy that permits to the weather. He's never liked standing out, but if others notice him he always tries to look nice. He also has clear, eye glasses that he only wears on occasion.

A P P E A R A N C E
Years of living on Earth have not done much to Cassiel's angelic form. Although the boy may have more wear and tear on him than he's used to there's no doubt that he is devilishly handsome. Piercing grey-blue eyes, a strong jaw, prominent cheekbones, a set of pouty lips, and skin as clear as the night sky. His hair, a white blonde, sometimes appears white in some lights. He either lets it fall where it may or he styles it with a sloppy look that still makes him decent to bare eyes on. Cas stands about six foot one and weighs about one hundred and seventy-one pounds with a tall and lanky frame. His skin complexion is very pale and never burns.

His most harrowing feature are that of his wings - or at least what used to be his wings. After having them ripped about before the fall has left two large scars starting from the top of his shoulder blades to about mid-back. They are nasty and gnarled looking completely out of place from his pristine appearance. This is something he has showed to no one - and most likely never will.

Q U I R K S
Cassiel likes to constantly lick his lips. He doesn't know why but whenever he is nervous, he'll lick them on instinct. When he is bored, he tap his fingers on hard surfaces that is placed before him. Also, he has a strange obsession to blackberry jam. He loves music in any form as well as playing instruments. Cas can expertly play about 36 instruments as he spent his years learning to play various ones.

L I K E S
Cas is an avid reader and loves just about all kinds of books. He likes to make frequent visits to the library and just sit there and read all day long. By this point he's nearly read every damn book in existence. Rainy and overcast weather tends to make him feel at ease, as do scented candles, incense and lonely walks, often complete with music. Cas enjoys a black cup of coffee or tea in the morning or mid-afternoon.

D I S L I K E S
Cas dislikes most sweets and candy due to their artificial flavor. He has never been too much of a sweet-toothed person and would prefer maybe salted pretzels instead. He hates loud music and parties, it's extremely disorienting to him. Cassiel somehow also detests the taste of alcohol, perhaps this stems from the idea that he cannot get 'drunk'.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Time has had a strange effect on Cassiel. He's lived nearly three decades and in that has lost and found himself many times. His own person, even as his world attempted to pull him into the life set out by his predecessors. He may not be an angel he once was but he is someone who values others deeply, someone that sticks around even if he’s hurt in the process. Maybe blind charity is his form of rebellion some what his two cents back into the world, but it's never been so blind as the hate spewed by the people he once knew - once called family.

He does not lack selfish whim, in fact, most his being can be summed up as selfishly distancing himself from the idea of being hurt. A lonely guy that dumbs himself down and pretends to be happy even when all he wants to do is curl up and wither away. Cas has learned through the years not to attach himself to others. Hence his ultimate punishment, to watch those he loves grow old and die. This hardened him, scarring him from ever allowing himself to love again.

The absolute first thing most notice about him is he tends to be alone all the time, a mere shadow in the background. However, through this he has become a very observant individual. Combined with someone's stray thoughts and body language he notices things that others might not. Something that most don't see or overlook about Cas, is truly how vulnerable he is as a person. Underneath the steely and cold demeanor, he is one of the most kind, caring and passionate individuals. After all he was an angel and loved all creation. Perhaps, too much. However, he keeps this side of him locked up deep in his mind, but it occasionally resurfaces with the right people.

From this Cassiel became a very guarded individual. All these years on Earth has made him something of a cynic. It was devastating to him at first seeing how much hatred walked the Earth after believing it to be something else for so many years. He knows that even after all these years on Earth he is still being watched from above. Friendships, companions, anything that makes him happy is just some cruel punishment crafted by his once brothers and sisters.

More than anything Cassiel feels truly lost. After having walked the Earth for so many years he has begun to lose hope that he'll never truly be happy again.

As a fallen angel, Cassiel is stripped of most of his angelic powers, but can still manipulate the minds of weak willed humans, possess them for short periods, as well as use limited telekinesis and telepathy.

Cas's biggest weakness is one of his feathers, the remnants of which he keeps tightly locked away. If a feather is burned, he will die along with it. Otherwise, he is nearly indestructible. If Cas is impaled or struck in the scars created when his wings were ripped out (usually spanning from shoulder blades to kidney area) he will be temporarily immobilized/paralyzed and this sensation causes immense pain. Unfortunately, ever sense Cas has fallen he has not been able to feel physical pain or sensations.

The only way for Cassiel to regain his wings and angelic abilities/title is by saving someone's life. If he successfully saves another being from death he will regain his wings and full powers and be named a guardian angel of that individual.

Some angels are born, others are made. Cassiel was one of the few angels to have been made, his purpose - a soldier of heaven. He never really remembers what most call 'childhood', he simply existed. Cas looks the same as the day he was created, save for his magnificent ivory wings that once sprouted from his shoulder blades.

It's fair to say that, despite his previous status as an angel of the First Hierarchy, Cassiel never really did quite fit in. Estranged from the others, Cas saw humans in a different light. Although it was assumed that all angels loved creation most were merely bitter from having to be almighty babysitters to the sinful little things. Cassiel was amongst the few who spent some of his days on Earth, fraternizing with mortals wasn't illegal but it wasn't necessarily smiled upon. Unfortunately, he got a little too attached to a mortal female and often visited her as much as he could eventually falling in love. While socializing with humans wasn't forbidden for an angel - engaging in romantic relations with them certainly was. It was only a matter of time before he was caught - it wasn't like he had many friends in heaven for that matter.

He was promptly stripped of his title, and served a few months in shackles while they decided his sentence. Which to his dismay was banishment from heaven and the removal of his wings. At the time, Cassiel couldn't imagine himself as anything other than an angel. That had been his whole life, his purpose. Who was he if he wasn't Cassiel Astra, of the stars. The process of the removal of his wings was worse than he could've imagined. Even after living for three centuries he couldn't imagine a more excruciating pain greater than that.

After he fell, Cas was lost and broken. He first sought out the girl he fell in love with, only to find that she had died a month before he fell. He fell into a deep depression and after numerous attempts of reconnecting with heaven eventually gave up. It was the darkest time in his life, and a time he'd never like to revisit. Eventually he met another fallen angel by the name of Uriel, who took him in for the a few years to help him adjust to his new life on Earth. Uriel helped him regain some of himself back, and over the years Cas grew better. Still there was no denying the darkness permanently stitched to his heart.

Cas learned to lay low, Uriel suggested he spend his days studying, reading, traveling, mortal things to keep the mind off of eternal damnation to Earth. And so he did just that. Cassiel dropped his full name, going by just Cas and adopted a last name 'Davis' to fit in better with the humans around him. He's been everywhere in the world at least twice, knows 6,500 different languages, can recite some of the world's most profound literature and more. It's amazing what the mind will do when you have hundreds of years to waste.

After a while, he began to get bored with so much adventure and decided to lay low awhile in the states for a couple of years. Greythorne was the twelfth supernatural town he had come across in his time on Earth. So to him they were rather rare. Suffice to say - even though he's only been there for a week - he quite enjoys the quaint town. Although he's abstained from meeting the locals (he's learned his lesson), he seems to want to stay a while. He just hopes the town doesn't end up like the other eleven before it.

Phoenix could feel Jaiden’s gaze on him, and it wasn’t exactly happy. He’d probably get an earful from her about this at some stage. But right now, he just couldn’t stay there. He wouldn’t, couldn’t be of any help. If he stayed there any longer he felt like he was going to crumble in to pieces. And Cas needed help, as much as he was going to insist otherwise. Cas tried to insist that Phoenix stayed with his friends but Phoenix just numbly shook his head and practically dragged the man out of the alley with him, back towards his apartment.

And then suddenly Cas stopped, and wouldn’t meet Phoenix’s eyes. The words he was saying didn’t make any sense. Phoenix could feel the frustration building in his chest and could feel the tears burning behind his eyes. But he refused to abandon Cas here. There was something wrong. Cas was hurt, clearly emotionally and physically, and what he was saying didn’t match with his actions.

“Cas. Just... just stop, okay? I don’t claim to know you that well, I don’t know what you did before you got here. But everything you’ve done since you got here? Cas, you just freaking put your life in danger for some reckless idiot that ran headlong into danger for no good reason.” He said with a small grin at himself. “I’m pretty damn sure you saved all of our lives tonight. You definitely saved mine. I don’t know what put it into your head that you don’t deserve this. But for god’s sake, Cas, I just want to make sure you’re not bleeding out on me and maybe even make you tea. And also I really don’t think I’d be able to patch up my shoulder by myself,” he said with a smirk. “So just... just let me do this for you, okay?”

Phoenix found himself wondering where Cas had come from. Who he was. Why somebody so cool and composed the rest of the time somehow fell apart at the thought of someone looking after him. Was that it? Or was there something more to it?

Evelyn felt so entirely useless. The hunter was still completely out cold, so it wasn’t even like she could deal with him. One of the girls from earlier- the one in the steampunk gear- she spotted Evelyn hovering on the periphery and told her to go home, that somebody would check up on her. Evelyn wanted to help. She did. But the smell of blood was just unhinging her control and she refused to let her hunger win. So she nodded, but grabbed the hunter and started dragging him by his coat.

It wasn’t easy, he weighed significantly more than her, and his dead weight made him hard to manage. She abandoned his unconscious form in the woods. If he survived, he survived. If something found him... well, good riddance. She panted a little and straightened up, looking around her. The forest was quiet, but not the peaceful quiet that she usually loved. Nothing in town was peaceful any more. And then there was that smell again, blood. But it was... faint. Evelyn found herself stalking towards the smell, mostly to check that it wasn’t somebody who was hurt. Instead, she found herself emerging on to a lake... and finding a familiar form. She knew the smell of blood wasn’t coming from Markus, but instead from the water.

“Did somebody fall in to the lake?” She asked Markus, frowning. But a look at the water and at the clouds of red made Evelyn think of something more sinister. But Evelyn held back, watching the surface of the water with a frown. She didn’t know of anything that tended to live in lakes, but she doubted it was anything good, anything that she wanted to cross. So for once, she stayed quiet, and just watched the surface of the water. Watching. Waiting. Curious to see what or if anything would come from it.

ImageWith her hands still wrapped closely around her body she tried to smile a Jaiden but didn't feel her mouth move at all. "Thanks Jai - just let me make sure Alex is okay" Her volume came out barely above a whisper as she glanced over to her friend still on the ground, definitely looking a little worse for wear. She walked over to him crouching down so she was eye-level with him, "hey enough worrying about everyone else okay? You need to rest. And - and don't ever do that again" Aurora knew that in that situation Alex definitely didn't have much of a choice but she hoped he'd get her point. She instinctively reached out brushing a strand of dark hair back into its place atop his head with a small sigh, realizing she should probably check on Oliver too. Aurora had practically shoved the poor elf into danger but he did what she'd asked him to.

Approaching him from behind, her eyes darted to the small - empty - booth next to him grabbing a bottle of water from it's cooler. "Oliver, thank you - I didn't mean to just shove you into the fire, it's just Alex he" She froze finding that the right words definitely weren't there and just handed the bottle of water to him. "Thank you".

Aurora returned back to Jaiden's side feeling more comfortable next to the witch. It seemed as if the hunters had returned back to the safety of the woods but she wouldn't be surprised if some were still lurking around. The walk back to her floral shop was quiet, but Rory felt like there was nothing really to be said. Aurora found herself for the first time in years locking every single lock to the front door. She normally never did, the girl felt safe in this town. Now she felt, she really wasn't sure. "I have a futon bed, and as many blankets and pillows as you could possibly wish for" Rory said the smile finally being able to reach her eyes as the comforting feeling of her home and shop eased a small bit of her worry. "It's just upstairs" gestured for Jaiden to follow as she went up the small spiral staircase in the back of the store.

Cas opened to interject Phoenix's but closed it quickly, as he realized nothing he said would change Phoenix mind. His words settled deeply with the Angel and he felt a sad pang in his heart. Phoenix was good, selfless, he cared so much about those around him - he reminded Cas so much of why he feel in love with humanity in the first place. But that's why he knew Phoenix deserved so much better. Cas came with a warning label a mile long and a death wish, it was only fair to himself and to those around him to keep everything and everyone at arms distance. It was better that way. He had to tell Phoenix, he refused to let himself string it on any farther. The thought was eating him alive. In the moment Cas promised himself he wouldn't leave the town without saying goodbye, without being honest. So after a pause he offered a weak smile, "Okay".

It wasn't long before they reached the small brick building, but when Phoenix opened the door to the cozy, warm-feeling apartment it made sense. Everything around him was very Phoenix, to the potted plants in every corner to the undeniable rich smell of coffee beans. Cas was afraid to touch anything, he didn't want to leave a stain of his presence on how seemingly perfect it all was. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so nervous, or the last time he had ever told anyone anything remotely true about who he was. It had been at least a hundred years. Cas found that it was never easy nor did it ever lead to anything good. Doubts began to cloud his mind as he didn't want to curse this town anymore than it had been. A fallen angel was a bad omen, everything about him was hypocritical - chaotic. It's why Heaven rarely ever let angels fall. Normally they snapped them out of existence when they broke the law. Angels only ever fell for a reason, to be taught a lesson. He turned back to Phoenix trying to calm his nerves, gesturing to the apartment mustering up the only thing he could think of. "I- I like it. It's very you".

Phoenix was glad when Cas just agreed to go back to the apartment with him. In all honesty, he wasn't sure he had the energy to argue any more. He just wanted to go home, but he also didn't want to just abandon Cas there. He could feel himself relaxing as he got in to the building and started up the stairs to his apartment. Here was comfortable. Here was safe. Here was home.

He let himself in to the apartment, the light and the warmth welcome after everything that had happened. He locked the door behind them and headed in to the small kitchen in search of the first aid kit. After the first caramel burn incident, he'd learned to keep an extremely extensive first aid kid in the kitchen. It contained enough for most of the baking inflicted injuries he seemed to sustain, but he found himself questioning if it would be enough for this. He grinned at Cas as Cas said it was very him. "Thank you. It's not much, but it's home. Please ignore the excess of lavender around the place, it got... a little out of control and there was only so much I could give away as gifts." All those nights when he'd questioned why he was doing this to himself, why he couldn't just... stop thinking about those eyes and the grin that so often accompanied them, and he'd just poured his energy into his plants in the hope he could exhaust himself or that something good could at least come from it. "Just take a seat wherever, move any plants out of the way if you need to." He called as he found the kit and pulled it out.

He sat beside Cas and opened the kit as well as he could with one hand. "I know I said I wanted to check you weren't dying, but even if you are, I don't think I'd be much use to you like this. So you're going to have to help me patch myself up, I'm afraid," he said with a bit of a smile. "I can handle the silver burns, but I'm going to need you to help me bandage it." Phoenix pulled away the blood soaked gauze from his shoulder, having to push down the vague nausea that arose in him at the sight. He wasn't particularly squeamish, but seeing that much of his own blood would make anybody feel uneasy.

ImageCas cracked a smile to himself as Phoenix called from the kitchen. Carried away was a little bit of an understatement when it came to the the lavender lining the walls. He was certainly giving the fairy girl a run for her money. As Phoenix rummaged around in the kitchen Cas slowly took in everything about the living room, from the decorative pillows on the couch to the random stack of books on the coffee table. He ran a finger down the spines as the books ranged from cooking, to plants, to witchcraft. After a few moments of observation he finally decided to sit on the couch, finding it surprisingly comfy - Cas made sure not to let his back touch the couch. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath allowing himself to relax, something he hadn't been able to do all night. Cas only opened his eyes when Phoenix entered the room a small first aid kit in hand.

For once Cas dropped the flirtatious manner in which he spoke to Phoenix as his eyes trained on the gash in his shoulder. "Of course, I'm no doctor but I'll try my best" A small smile appeared on his lips as he glanced up for a moment to look at Phoenix before training his gaze back to his shoulder. Cas had patched up his fair share of wounds before, mainly on himself when the dastardly things wouldn't heal. It was a hit or miss situation with him these days. His hand lightly brushed the bare skin of Phoenix's shoulder he stopped when he reached the strap of the wings on his back. "I'm going to have to take these off to get a better look" Cas looked at Phoenix for approval before hooking his finger under the strap and gently tugged it off the witches arm, making sure to be careful. He unhooked the other side and gazed at the feathers in his lap, running his finger along the edge of the wing - almost for too long - before quickly discarding them to the side. After snapping at of his small daze he reached for the alcohol and a cotton swab, "this is probably going to sting a little". Cas made sure to be gentle when cleaning the wound, and before long had begun to bandage Phoenix's shoulder. He worked quietly as he wrapped the gauze securely, a few stray snow-blonde hairs falling into his face. Cas pressed the bandage in place securely, quite proud at his work. The task had distracted him, and in turn make himself less tense and more comfortable in the apartment. "Alright you are officially discharged from the Davis hospital" He said with a small chuckle, placing the tools back into the box.

Cas was quiet for a moment, as if thinking of how to form the sentence in his head, "I actually am feeling better Phoenix - I really don't think I need any patching up. Maybe some Advil? And that tea you promised?" His eyes darted ever so sightly to the wings on the floor. Cas did not want Phoenix to see his scars, regardless of how much they stung.

The feeling of Cas' hand running over his bare skin seemed to leave phantom sensations behind; the feeling of skin brushing against skin, the cold contact, the shock of contact. It left him feeling a little dazed, more dazed than he wanted to admit. So when Cas asked about removing the wings, Phoenix just wordlessly nodded. A shock of pain as Cas pulled the strap from the wing away brought him back to reality.

He watched Cas examine the wings, curious about that brief flash of an unidentifiable emotion. But the man seemed to recover quickly and started to clean the wound. Phoenix inhaled sharply at the sting of the alcohol wipe, but found himself quickly entranced by the man in front of him. The white blonde strands of hair that fell so perfectly in to that face, the look of concentration, the strong but gentle ways his hands worked, wrapping around his shoulder. He knew that some of the others were suspicious of this stranger, they were hesitant to let him in. But Phoenix couldn't believe that hands that gentle, that careful, a face so focused... he couldn't believe anything bad could come of that. Cas' words that he didn't deserve Phoenix's help came back to mind, but Phoenix couldn't believe them either.

He released a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding as Cas finished, grinning a little at the joke about Davis' hospital. He studied Cas for a moment or two as he insisted that he was fine, that he just wanted some painkillers and some tea. There seemed to be a little more colour back in his face, and his demeanor was more relaxed. So Phoenix sighed and nodded, getting to his feet. "Sure. Give me a minute to go it." He stood up and headed in to the bathroom, his own reflection making him jump a little as he switched on the light. For a moment, he had thought there was somebody there, somebody waiting for him. Somebody back to finish the job. Phoenix had to put his hands on the sink for a moment and give himself a minute to regain his composure, to slow his racing heart. Was this just what it was going to be like now? Jumping at any sign of a bang in the night? Constantly afraid of the stranger, of the strange? He shook that thought out of his head and retrieved the Advil, heading back in to the sitting room. He put the Advil down on the coffee table and went back over to the kitchen.

"Usually, I'd ask what blend of tea you want, but I have the perfect blend in mind. It's kept me going when I've needed it most." The tea itself was simple, a blend of some herbs with strawberry and mint to cover the more unpleasant tastes. He'd made it himself, so it was particularly potent. But on the evenings when he'd pushed himself a little too hard, either trying to grow some plants or just baking, he'd found it was good for restoring that energy. His hypothesis was just that Cas had pushed himself too hard, using... whatever his ability was.

He brewed two mugs of tea and pulled out a tin of cookies, all trial recipes he'd tested for the café that he was still trying to perfect. "Blended the tea myself and baked the cookies. You can't say you don't get the homely touch here," he said with a grin as he put the mug down in front of Cas and sat back down beside him. "You sure you're okay, though?"

ImageAurora was gathering blankets from her closet when she heard Jaiden speak up from the edge of the futon in her room. She turned over her shoulder a look of concern on her face. "Jaiden - no, of course not, you saved my life" Aurora knew the witch blamed herself, she could hear it in her tone with the look on her face. Aurora wore that same look for years. She quickly gathered up the blankets making her way across the room to sat them next to Jaiden on the futon. At her next statement Rory's face fell and she grabbed Jaiden's hands - which were surprisingly warm - to stop her. "Jaiden stop. Don't you dare blame yourself for what happened, I'll never forgive you if you do. I went back, I ran right into their trap. You saved me, you understand? You saved me". Aurora let go of the witch's hands and gently cupped her face in her hands, closing her eyes slightly as she concentrated on let her calmness flow into Jaiden. After a small moment she opened her eyes, but didn't let go of Jaiden's face. Aurora wanted to make sure she understood. "I know you feel it. We all do right now. But this is our town, Greythorne, it's our home. We haven't lost it just yet okay? You have to believe that, you must. I'm not giving up on this town, and you can't either" Aurora finally let her hands fall as she finished her sentence.

Aurora sat there in silence for a moment as if she too needed to hear the words that had just come out of her mouth. After a moment, she picked up the top blanket and began to lay it out for Jaiden across the futon making it more comfortable for the witch. "I know neither of us will probably get any sleep tonight but that's no excuse not to try."

Cas was grateful when Phoenix gave into his little plea and left the couch to leaving to go to the bathroom. He couldn't count the number of times he glanced at the wings which made his own back ache. It was almost like a phantom pain, yet Cas knew it was partially real. The angel felt his back straighten up when Phoenix entered the room again a small sigh of relief bubbling out of his lips quietly as the Advil was placed on the table in front of him. "Thank you" he murmured grabbing the box when Phoenix passed into the kitchen, taking a few of them without anything - quite guiltily - desperate for a little relief.

He felt himself smile at Phoenix's statement turning his head towards the kitchen, "After trying that jam I'd really trust anything you gave me Woods". The angel waited patiently for his return, his eyes straying to the tiny knick knacks that were strewn about for a quirky, charming effect. It made him miss home a little. Something he hadn't thought about in years. After staying in motels, hotels, apartments, anywhere imaginable, Phoenix's decorated home struck a chord in his heart.

Cas smiled his eyes lighting up slightly as Phoenix walked back in performing a balancing act with the mugs of tea and cookies. "You're magic" He said with a slight laugh as he took the mug graciously from the table, wishing that he could feel the warmth of the cup considering his hands were most likely ice cold. Over the years Cas had begun to accept the fact that he couldn't feel physical sensations from others or objects, but in the beginning it was hard. At first the absence of pain felt a little empowering, that was of course unless it stemmed from his scars. Then he realized that he was numb to the simple brush of a finger, the warmth of a fire, or even a kiss. Cas believed it to be heaven's cruel joke, unfortunately it worked. What he could feel was ghostly and not right, as if he was in another body. He didn't quite understand the stipulations itself even after all these years.

His face softened as Phoenix asked him yet again if he was alright. "Phoenix, I promise I'm fine. You worry too much you know?" Cas took a small sip from the mug, keeping eye contact with the witch in front of him. He relished in the fact that whatever Phoenix made him had a pretty instant effect, Cas felt a little color flush into his cheeks. The angel was about ask Phoenix what exactly he had put in the tea when his nose tickled slightly. He instantly brought a hand up to it disheartened when he pulled away a smear of blood across the top of his knuckles. Cas quickly set the tea down on the table standing up rather abruptly. "I'm just going to use the restroom, I'll be right back".

He walked quickly in the direction Phoenix went passing through a rather tidy bedroom before finding the bathroom, his hand pressed against his nose. Cas closed the door quickly and locked it shut, before fumbling around in the dark for a light switch. He flinched slightly when white light illuminated the bathroom and shoved his face over the sink removing his hand. Cas watched as drop by drop, bright red blood spattered against the white sink and he sighed leaning his weight against it. After watching a considerable amount of blood drop into the sink - he finally released it might be a good idea to turn on the water which quickly became a light pink - Cas grabbed for some toilet paper to the side and shoved some up his nose (attractive) before finally looking in the mirror. He looked like a train wreck. True, some color had returned to his cheeks yet the skin around his eyes remained practically translucent. "Damnit" Cas muttered quietly as his hands gripped the sink his head dropping down. He was trying to avoid this exact situation. Maybe if he wasn't so careless with his powers he could've been fine and on the road to some other town by now. Did he really want that?

Cas finally mustered up the idea that he wasn't going to get out of this so easily and quickly took off his jacket and then began to unbutton his undershirt. As he tried to slip it off, the angel unfortunately found that he had to peel it off his back and the blood had matted the fabric to him. He turned his back to the mirror and glanced over his shoulder clenching his fists in anger as he looked at his back. The scars, gnarled and ugly, that ran from the top of his shoulder blades to his mid back had reopened and still continued to bleed. He shoved his palms into his face in frustration, where they trying to torture him? Cas looked up at the ceiling, "damn you, damn all of you" He muttered under his breath as he glanced back into the mirror. This wasn't the first time this had happened. Back when he first fell and was using his powers more liberally, his scars would open on occasion and they couldn't be treated with magic. In fact they rejected it. Once he sought out a witch to close them completely and her spell instead made his scars bleed even more profusely. He eventually began sneaking his way into hospitals slipping into the minds of doctors to patch him up before he made his exit. Granted, he had gotten smart about it so something like this hadn't happened in years. Cas knew he couldn't do this alone. And there was no way he was leaving this apartment now.

Cas paced back and forth for a moment, the open air now making his back sting even more. He had to accept it, he could just come up with some excuse. Maybe the hunters actually got to him, he just didn't notice. Phoenix wasn't an idiot. The angel stared at the doorknob before unlocking it carefully, opening it just a smidge. "Phoenix" He called out rather quietly, his voice was undeniably nervous, "Your first aid wouldn't happen to have any sutures would it?".

Phoenix just blushed a little as Cas told him he worried too much. It wasn't the first time he'd heard that. Because as reckless as he could be with his own heart, his friends were a different matter. He'd do anything for them and they all knew that, and frequently teased him about it. So when Cas abruptly stood up, saying he needed the restroom, concern flashed through Phoenix all over again. It was probably nothing, he told himself. Probably nothing.

The time ticked by, Phoenix growing every more uneasy. It had only been a few minutes, according to his phone, but those few minutes felt like hours. Scenarios flashed through his mind as he did his best to ignore them, telling himself that he was just overthinking things. He tapped a nervous pattern on the edge of his mug, trying his best to keep his calm. He could almost feel the nervous energy flickering around him, and he forced himself to take a deep breath. It was probably fine.

And then he heard Cas' voice, calling his name. There was an initial rush of relief followed by a pang of first confusion, then concern as Cas' words processed. Sutures. The asshole was more injured than he'd let on. Phoenix practically ran into his bedroom, seeing that Cas had the bathroom door open, just a crack. "Jesus Christ, Cas, I thought you said you were fine?" He said. The door was only open a crack, not enough for Phoenix to see the full extent of the damage. Almost definitely intentional.

"Just... just let me see where you're hurt, okay? Just let me see if it's bad enough that we have to get you to a hospital or a healer, or... something," he practically pleaded. He was trying to keep the thoughts of Alex out of his brain already, the amount of blood there had been, the way that Phoenix had just left him there because he'd been too goddamn scared...

He couldn't face the thought of it happening to someone else he cared about.

He knew that stitches didn't necessarily mean life-threatening. But right then, right there, his brain was not in a rational place. Hunters didn't do minor damage. All they did was destroy and hurt and harm and put people in more danger than they ever deserved to be.

Evelyn had to stop herself from visibly reacting as a woman surfaced from the water. She'd seen a lot of strange shit since she'd started living among the supernatural, but she'd never encountered a... a what, a mermaid? No, her senses told her. This creature was associated with danger. This sure as hell wasn't a fairy tale mermaid anyway.

Evelyn didn't buy her story about not having seen any hunters nearby. The smell of blood was probably covered by the fact that they'd probably been dragged into the water, but the smell was strongest here. That said, if it was a hunter that had been drawn in to the water... Evelyn would be willing to turn a blind eye. Markus didn't seem to believe the story either, but he chose to just move on, apparently. He promised Evelyn the chance to feed, and that was almost enough to make her turn away.

But she couldn't resist the chance to let the woman know what she was dealing with. Hunters were fair game, but Evelyn got the feeling that this dangerous creature mightn't distinguish between them. So she took a few steps closer to the woman and dropped into a crouch, so she was nearer to be able to look the woman in her eyes. "I can smell blood through water, you know," she said. "I know there's been blood shed in this lake. And for tonight? Tonight, it was probably a hunter, so I guess I can look past it. But if you kill again... I'll know." She warned, before straightening up with a grin. "Lovely to meet you, by the way. I must swing by and get to know you a little better," she said, before rejoining Markus.

"No humans. I don't feed from humans, no matter who they are. That includes hunters," she warned him. "Any big animal should do, though."

ImageAurora felt a small sense of relief as Jaiden seemed to accept her words. Of course, she could still sense the distress emanating from her but Rory decided to let things be. They had all had more than a stressful night. Aurora excused herself for a small moment to change out of her clothes into more comfortable pajamas, feeling a little bit better getting the costume off. She stared at it for a moment before shoving it deep into her trash - she didn't want anything to remind her of the events that happened tonight.

Aurora brought a copy oversize t-shirt and shorts to Jaiden, just in case the witch wanted to change just as she had, also offering her friend a shower if she wanted it. It was then that she finally decided to crawl into bed, feeling comfort as her fluffy comforter swallowed her whole. She alway slept wrapped up like a little cocoon at night, for Aurora more covers equaled more comfort. It was no surprise that she found herself staring aimlessly at the ceiling as she tried to will herself to fall asleep. Aurora had always been an easy sleeper and falling asleep had never been an issue for her. Of course, after the death of her parents she struggled but this was more due to the nightmares than the restlessness. So now the feeling was unfamiliar.

Rory was slightly thankful that Jaiden was still awake as well - even if Aurora had hoped her friend faired better in trying to fall asleep. At the mention of her throat she found herself placing a hand against her neck instinctively. "A little, but it's starting to fade. I guess I don't know how I'm feeling if I really think about it" She took a tiny deep breath and closed her eyes sinking her head into the pillow. "Like, I know it's not a good feeling. I'm not really sad... I guess just empty. But that really doesn't make any sense". After a moment of silence Rory slightly propped herself up on her elbows to look at Jaiden across the room. "What are we going to do?"

At the sound of Phoenix's voice Cas felt a little bit of relief internally, but his shoulders tensed up almost immediately. His hand was firm on the doorknob and he felt his grip was so tight he might accidentally rip the thing off of its hinges. "I thought I was but- I guess I was just ignoring it. I wanted to make sure everyone else was alright first" Cas didn't lie. Of course he left out the truth as to why he was hurt, but the reasoning was honest.

"No!" Cas's voice came out harsher than he intended and he leaned his head against the doorframe, closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He couldn't go to a hospital now, he didn't have enough energy to slip into anyone's head and at this point he had already dug his grave too deep. "Phoenix, I can't. I can't go to a hospital. It's too much, too much attention - too many questions - I can't" His tone came out much quieter this time, pleading, almost borderline pitiful. He was just so tired.

He clenched his fist tightly, as he glanced at the door in front of him. Phoenix just wanted to help him, and Cas was having a difficult time accepting that fact. In all honestly, Cas was scared. Terrified of what Phoenix would think of him, if he would be angry, or just repulsed. Cas liked Greythorne. It's why he couldn't leave, every time he packed and went to check out he ended up paying for another night, another week. Cas liked Phoenix. His smile, his undeniable selflessness - as reckless as it was, and that goddamn blackberry jam. And just like always, Cas was afraid of losing both of those things. He already knew where this road would lead, for him it always ended the same. Maybe that was a risk he was just going to have to take.

"Phoenix" For once his tone had no shake, no hesitancy, it wasn't necessarily calm but, collected. "I'm going to open the door but please just don't ask me anything- not now. And when we're done you can ask me anything you'd like or you can tell me to leave and I will. I'll leave and I'll never bother you or this town again" He paused and took a deep breath, "ok?" Then he let go of the doorknob and pushed it open.

Cas' reaction to the hospital made Phoenix recoil ever so slightly, the burst of force taking him aback a moment. Cas had always been so composed, and that reaction seemed... almost out of character. But Phoenix told himself to take hope in that. If Cas really didn't want a hospital, then it couldn't be that bad... right? But the anger disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, and Phoenix felt that concern settle in the pit of his stomach all over again.

"Okay. Okay, no hospitals," he promised. It was a promise he intended to keep. Cas had to have some reason for wanting to keep these wounds a secret, and while Phoenix himself didn't exactly think it was a good idea, he wasn't going to push. He wasn't going to betray that secret. If he'd learned one thing over the years, it was that people tended to have their reasons for wanting to hide. People came to Greythorne all the time in search of an escape.

There was a moment where Phoenix was shocked at how... collected Cas seemed to be, considering his outburst moments before, but given what he'd seen of Cas' character, keeping calm in a crisis shouldn't have been that much of a surprise. "Okay. No questions," Phoenix confirmed.

He didn't know what to expect as he stepped in to the bathroom. A stab wound, probably. Something... well, not normal. But as close to normal as things ever seemed to get around here. But he saw Cas' back, and he froze. It was a mess of scar tissue and of bleeding, freshly open wounds. The blood on Cas' back made Phoenix's head spin- or maybe it was just the fact that he suddenly realised he couldn't remember the last time he'd taken a breath. He forced his lungs to expand, contract, and felt his head clear ever so slightly. His mind was a whir of questions, but he remembered his promise not to ask any questions. He knew that no questions didn't mean no reaction, but he couldn't think of a way to react that didn't involve giving in to the panic that was rapidly starting to build in his chest or that didn't involve asking a million questions.

That hadn't happened in the hunter attack. That much he knew.

"I... I don't think I can-" He stammered out, before remembering his promises, and forcing himself to breathe. "I don't think we really have enough room in here, I'm standing in my own light. Can we move out to the bedroom?" He said. "I can clean it up at least, I... I don't really know how to suture but I can try, if that's what you want." The temptation to just give in to the sheer confusion, the panic, the fear that this evening had instilled in him was almost overwhelming. But once he did, there was no way he'd be able to help Cas. And right now, that needed to be his priority.

Something about the woman's reaction made Evelyn grin. Finally, someone who could match her. She still knew this woman was a threat, but she at least seemed to be fun. She had to stop herself from staring as the woman's tail turned back into legs, and she stepped out of the water. Instantly, her curiosity was piqued, and she knew that she would be back to the lake. The fact that she offered them advice unprompted didn't go unnoticed, either. This woman seemed interesting. But she was still a monster, Evelyn reminded herself. She had attacked the hunter earlier, and Evelyn wasn't foolish enough to think that it would have been a painless death.

But she nodded and went back to Markus, who remarked on the dark history of the lake. Evelyn looked at him and raised an eyebrow, but decided against asking too many questions. They didn't seem like the type of questions he wanted to answer anyway, so she just brushed herself down a little before following him in to the woods.

"You don't seem surprised that I don't want to attack humans," she remarked after a while. "Every... When I was travelling around, people seemed surprised to learn that about me. They assumed all vampires are bloodsucking monsters, and they... they looked at me differently. Why weren't you surprised?" She asked quietly as they walked, conscious to keep her voice low so that they wouldn't scare off any prey. She'd met a handful of vampires who were like her. They had been the ones who told her she could survive like this, survive off of the blood of animals instead of humans. But they'd all just looked at her sadly when she'd asked about a cure and had just advised her to get used to her new life. But goddammit, Evelyn had spent most of her adult human life trying to change things she'd been told she couldn't change, and she'd always made progress. Sometimes, she'd even succeeded. She refused to accept this life as the only one she would ever know. She would find an answer.

ImageAurora's face fell slightly as Jaiden mentioned her family. She knew the witch had lost her parents but never knew the full intent to her past. So it was true, Jaiden did know how Aurora was feeling. Her emptiness felt very much like it did those months after losing her family but Aurora often never brought that up - only when she had to. That was a part of her life she still wanted to run from but with everything that had happened tonight she wondered if it was just beginning to catch up.

Aurora found herself nodding along with Jaiden's words, which for the most part she agreed completely with. At the mention of friends, her mind instantly jumped to Alex - how was he? She could only hope that Oliver was taking care of him. Aurora had pretty much blocked it out due to the stress and chaoticness of the situation but she was worried for her friend. The brief moment she had brushed her hand across his head she felt it. Like small little tendrils of darkness creeping up around her hand, and her heart began to flutter. Fear. Aurora wasn't surprised, everyone was terrified, but it was a different kind of fear - it was darker, and stronger. And Phoenix. He had run off with a stranger in the night and whose to say that snow-haired man wasn't dangerous too? She breathed an audible sigh from her lips and sifted under the covers rubbing her eyes slightly. "I hope so Jaiden, I really do" But deep down Aurora was worried that things may never be the same again.

Cas instantly regretted opening the door when he saw the look on Phoenix's face. It was enough to make him bolt past the man and out the door into the night. He knew right then and there that Phoenix was never going to look at him the same. Cas couldn't understand why he thought any of this would ever be okay. Phoenix wasn't a doctor, nor did he even know anything about Cas when he really thought about it. If anything Cas wouldn't have been surprised if he had kicked him out right then and there, especially after everything that happened. The small moment of silence nearly killed him as his eyes frantically bounced around the room to anywhere but Phoenix, he couldn't look at him as he was terrified to see his face. For once Cas tried everything to block out what Phoenix was thinking - he didn't want to know.

Cas was shocked when he finally spoke up and instead of asking him to leave instead asked him to move. He finally locked eyes with the witch and for a moment found himself frozen in thought before he finally shook his head slightly as if to clear his mind. Phoenix was actually going to help him, of course he was. "O-Of course" Cas stammered as he took a step past Phoenix carefully, as he was in the middle of the doorway, the angel made sure to not touch him. He didn't want to scare him anymore than he already had. When he took a step into the bedroom he took a deep breath, running a few hands through his hair to distract him from the fact that they were trembling. Everything about the bedroom was perfect. The bed was made, it smelled faintly of lavender, and there was even a decorative throw across the edge of the bed. Everything about Cas was chaotic from the translucent sheen of his skin to the large tears in his back. He didn't belong here. Cas again was terrified to touch anything, afraid of leaving even the smallest stain on Phoenix's life. So he found himself standing in the middle of the room, a lost expression on his face.

He turned back to Phoenix realizing that the witch had been speaking to him, but he wasn't really processing the words. "I'm sorry-" It was a little to late for that. "If you could just... if you could just clean it and I could bandage it. At least to stop the bleeding" He felt wrong to ask Phoenix for something, guilty almost. Phoenix owed him nothing. A strange sensation overtook Cas, nothing like he'd ever felt before. The angel could feel his heart pounding in his head, and felt it took every ounce of his will just to breath. "I'm sorry" He repeated taking a small step backwards from Phoenix, the effort to push the words out causing it to sound more like a wheeze.

Phoenix just nodded as Cas said to clean it and he'd bandage it. Phoenix took one look at Cas' face, how he seemed to be even paler than normal. "Hold on," he said, disappearing back out to the sitting room. He retrieved Cas' tea and a cookie, heading back down in to the bedroom. "Here. Drink your tea. And sit," he ordered, before disappearing back in to the bathroom to get a damp cloth. He sat cross-legged on the bed behind Cas. "I'll be as gentle as I can," he promised.

He started with the damp cloth, gently wiping away the blood that had smeared around the wound. This was the most surreal thing he had ever done. It felt like a dream, or perhaps that was the shock of the whole thing. It also had occurred to him that this was the first time in a while he'd had a shirtless guy in his room, and this was not how he had imagined it. He had to stop himself from laughing at the absurdity of it all. "Okay. It's looking a little less gory now, but I'm just going to give it a quick clean with an alcohol wipe, okay?" He started wiping gently at the wound, wondering what had done this. It... didn't look like any weapon Phoenix had ever seen.

"Cas... I know, no questions. But... whatever did this? Whatever you're running from? You don't need to run any more. I know... after tonight, it's hard to believe it. But... this is a safe place for people like us. We dealt with them tonight, and we'll deal with them again. We'll protect you. No matter what." He finished with the alcohol wipe, and pulled the bandage out of the first aid kit. "All done. I can help wrap it, you don't want to pull the wound too much. He carefully started wrapping the wound, passing it around to Cas to wrap from the front. When it was done, he moved around to sit beside Cas. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked, a genuine question. He had so many questions; but if Cas didn't want to talk about it, he wouldn't force it.

It was oddly comforting to hear Markus' experiences. To know that there was a monster fighting inside him too, and that he was winning. It gave her hope. Hope that, if she really was condemned to this life, she could at least maintain her humanity. She already considered herself a monster, but she refused to become a murderer. She was still a person. She wouldn't lose that, she promised herself.

She frowned as Markus heard the story about the lake. She wanted to ask more questions, but knew that now mightn't be the right time. This was a different, softer side to Markus, one that endeared him a little to her, and she liked seeing it. She didn't want to ruin it by possibly making him grumpy again. "You really look after her, don't you?" She remarked, smiling at him. However, at the mention of prey, she shifted slightly, shifted in to hunting mode.

"Something... big, but not too big. I think..." She fell silent, listening. "Deer. Up ahead." She broke into a sprint, knowing she was leaving Markus behind and smiling at that thought. A stag practically ran out in front of her and she attacked, killing it as quickly as she could. This was then when she had to let the monster win as she fed. She hadn't realised how thirsty she had been until now, now that she started to drink. There was something vaguely intoxicating about this feeling, and it was almost terrifying.

She finished feeding, and wiped her face, conscious of how bloody she had to be. She took a deep breath, feeling herself shift back to... well, herself. She turned to look at Markus. "Do you need to feed?" She asked. "Sorry, I... don't really know how the whole... Lycan thing works."

ImageCas wrung his hands nervously as Phoenix asked him to wait, his mind reeling as to what he could possibly be getting. A rather strange expression overtook his face as of all things Phoenix came back with his tea and cookie placing it into his hands, ordering him to sit on the bed. He took a few moments staring hopelessly between the tea to the witch before nodding and allowing himself to sit down. It was surprisingly comfortable and he made sure to sit as close to the edge as possible.

"Okay" Cas had never heard himself sound so hopeless, so quiet. He took a quiet deep breath as he tried to calm his nerves, taking a small sip of the tea relishing the he instantly felt color flush to his cheeks. So he sat, quietly, as Phoenix began to gently clean out his scars - or what had become of them. A few seconds he would let out a sharp gasp as the cloth brushed over a specifically tender spot, murmuring a slight "sorry" for no reason other than he didn't want Phoenix to think he was hurting him in any way. Cas nodded to the small warning griping the soft cloth of the comforter as he felt the familiar stinging sensation of alcohol along his back. He grit his teeth and closed his eyes as he focused on breathing out of his nose. From being desensitized to pain for so long, even the slightest sensation was tough for him to endure.

His eyes opened as Phoenix's voice spoke from behind him, every word bearing more weight on to his shoulders. It was something he'd always wanted to hear but they didn't settle with him like he always thought they did because as he thought more about it, the answer practically swallowed him whole. He did this to himself, and he had been running from his choices ever since. Maybe he was just embarrassed by that fact - ashamed of it.

So he stayed quiet, his head hung rather low as he passed the bandage back and forth until Phoenix had secured it tightly. Cas felt the bed shift as Phoenix moved to sit beside him, that expression of worry in his gaze making Cas's heart wrench. Even after everything Phoenix still cared about how he was doing, maybe even more than himself. It was something he couldn't quite wrap his head around, or possibly he just refused to believe that it was true. He suddenly found that he couldn't meet Phoenix's gaze as he instead settled on a small loose string of the comforter. "Phoenix, I-" He paused his face pent up in a mixture of emotions as he let out a deep breath meeting the witch's gaze. "Thank you. For helping me and, and for the tea. I just-" This time he was clearly wracked with frustration as he couldn't figure out how to get the right words out. "I think it would be best to get some rest. Tonight was something no one can just take in stride and I think you - we both would benefit from some sleep" He instinctively took Phoenix's hand in both of his and gave it a small comforting squeeze, "tomorrow morning you can make some of that jam and we can talk, okay? I promise" He felt a small bit of himself return as smiled softly. At Phoenix's offer to sleep on the couch, Cas was frankly too exhausted to say no. So he found himself laying on the couch, the living room was quiet and dark but the warm haze from a lamp in the corner cast a comforting glow over the room. He had laid himself stomach down on the couch as his scars where still tender and sore. Cas was a little to big for the couch and his arm hung off the side his fingers grazing the carpet. Instead of thinking about the night he instead closed his eyes and willed himself to sleep. He knew the longer he thought about it the more he would begin to regret everything he had done.

Phoenix would have been lying if he said that he wasn't disappointed that Cas agreed to tell him... what was happening. But he could see it in his face that Cas really, really didn't want to talk about it. And he wasn't going to push it. Not after the night they'd just had. Cas taking his hands was such a genuine, almost surprising gesture, and it almost took him aback. But he appreciated it, not realising how much he needed the physical contact. And, to be honest, the thought of sleep was incredibly tempting right now. But he didn't want to just let Cas go. He couldn't. So instead, he offered his couch and his coziest blanket, leaving a change of clothes to hand if Cas wanted it.

The minute Phoenix was alone in his bedroom, everything seemed to catch up with him. Alex bleeding out, the carnage of the attack, those scars on Cas' back. He didn't cry or panic or outwardly react. He had no idea how he didn't do any of those things, but instead, he found himself lying awake in bed, staring at the ceiling. He found himself texting the others, making sure they were okay, apologising for leaving, promising baked goods as an apology, anything to occupy his time and his brain.

He must have fallen asleep with the phone in his hand. He didn't notice himself falling asleep, only found himself waking up with the light streaming across the room. He hadn't planned on opening today anyway and was glad for that, because his limbs felt heavy and his mind felt groggy. But he was awake, and he knew sleep was completely out of reach. So instead, he showered and got changed. He'd almost forgotten about Cas until he walked back out in to the living area. Assuming that he was still asleep, Phoenix was as quiet as he could be. He was so used to being by himself that having to be mindful of other people was a strange experience. He usually blared whatever mid-2000's rock/emo playlist was suggested to him that day when he cooked or baked, but that morning, he made the pancake mix in relative silence. He found himself idly humming as he started to make the blackberry sauce though.

Evelyn didn't need sleep, not any more. It was more a habit than anything, a way of passing the daylight hours. But this morning, she decided not to sleep away the daylight. Instead, she layered up, pulling on a pair of gloves to cover her hands and the biggest hat she could find to cover her face. She pulled on a pair of aviator sunglasses and headed out in to town. She was so used to the hustle and bustle of big cities that she found it strange how late everything opened here. Or maybe that was just the day after the festival. Or the day after everything that had happened. The smell of blood still lingered in the air, but fainter now, more bearable.

She found herself helping to clear up a destroyed stall. Masks from the night before lay covered in splinters, still wearable but tainted by the events of the night before, so much so that she was sure nobody would ever wear them. Still, she carefully cleaned them off as well as she could and stacked them into the box. The hunters hadn't just tried to kill them. They'd enjoyed the destruction, ruined people's lives. This wasn't as much about trying to eliminate them as it was asserting dominance, striking fear in to their hearts.

Which meant that this was only the beginning. Evelyn knew they could be expecting something else. Maybe more subtle murders. Maybe another mass attack. Evelyn would have been lying if she said that the thought of leaving, of finding somewhere safer, hadn't occurred to her. But... she didn't want to. It was that simple. Markus was the closest thing she had to a friend right now. She knew he'd protect her, so abandoning him didn't sit right with her. Not after their discussion about their humanity. And so... she would stay and fight alongside them and help them clean up the mess when they won. And then she would decide what to do next.

ImageAurora’s dreams were more or less nightmares and she woke up several times in the night with her heart in her throat and her fingers clutching the sheets with a death grip. It was after the fourth time that she woke up when she decided that there was no point in trying to go back to sleep and instead settled for staring at her ceiling in an attempt to empty her mind. It was then that by about four in the morning that her body finally gave into it’s tiredness and she succumbed to the coziness of her blankets and drifted off.

When the sun finally shone through her curtains painting her bed in a plethora of sunshine Aurora opened her eyes. Her mother always used to tell her that she was simply making things up but Rory had always believed that the sunshine made her stronger. Nothing made her feel better than basking in the warm glow of the sun and she liked to think of herself as a plant. So she sat there for a moment letting the rays warm her skin before she propped herself up on her elbows to glance around her room. The heavy weight that had been placed on her chest last night had somewhat subsided but she could still feel the fear creep up in the back of her throat just hovering there like a burden. Her heart began to beat a little bit faster as she noticed the empty blankets across the room and she hurried out of bed peering in the bathroom. Also empty. “Jaiden?” She called quietly, wringing her hands nervously as she crept quietly down the stairs a look of confusion crossing over her face as the smell of pancakes and syrup became apparent.

Aurora was shocked to not only see that her place had been cleaned to near spotlessness but there was an entire breakfast buffet placed out before her. The fae’s heart melted. Her eyes instantly spotted her friend just as she was placing out a glass of orange juice on to the table and she finished the last five steps in two as she made her way over to the table. “Jaiden - what
this looks amazing. You didn’t have to do this you know! I- I would’ve helped you if you had just woken me up” Aurora felt of tinge of guilt for not aiding in any part of the food making, but that was just how she treated everything that was given to her.

Cas didn’t dream - angels never dreamed. In fact, he technically didn’t need to sleep either but curled up on Phoenix’s couch the angel slept like a rock. His hand hung off of the couch his fingertips just barely brushing the carpet below. Cas looked peaceful. Even Phoenix’s stirring didn’t awake him, and instead it came from the faint humming in the kitchen. He rolled over slightly, blinking his eyes open as they adjusted to the newfound light pouring into the room from the windows around him. The humming drifting into the living room from the kitchen brought the faintest of smiles to his lips yet he also realized in perhaps the same moment that he wasn’t in his apartment. It took him a second for the night before to flood his thoughts and he jerked up suddenly on the couch, wincing slightly as the scars on his back were still tender. Phoenix. Suddenly a multitude of thoughts came crashing back, the festival, the hunters, the gentle way Phoenix had patched him up, and his patience. A small sigh escaped his lips and he ran a careful hand through his hair. Cas had hoped that a night of sleep might help him clear his mind, make rational decisions. If anything it just made him more confused.

However, the second the smell of blackberries wafted in his mind was set. Probably not the greatest of determining factors but - for now it would suffice. Cas pushed himself up into a sitting position stretching his arms slightly trying to determine the real damage to his shoulders. They were still sore and stiff but he could already tell the pain had begun to fade. Almost like a cruel little trick, they’d let him suffer and then eventually his healing would kick in. Cas had just begin to patch them up as the scars healed less garish that way. As he glanced down he frowned noticing how disheveled he looked. His top half was bare save for the bandages wrapped around his torso and his nicer pants were wrinkled from sleeping in them. Cas was in desperate need of a shower. He followed the path he remembered the other day, hoping not to intrude to much into Phoenix’s private living space eventually making his way to the bathroom. His snow-blonde hair had changed from it’s normal gelled look into more curls atop his head, probably from being smashed up against a pillow all night. There was definitely a visible wear to his face - he looked tired. After a few moments of searching Cas managed to find the roll of gauze and carefully reapplied his bandages so that they were clean and for good measure splashed some cold water on his face.

He found himself following the humming and the smell of food around the hall into the kitchen. Phoenix had his back turned to him as the witch was busy mixing a fresh jar of blackberry jam. A small smile appeared on Cas’s face as he watched him work for a few seconds before making his presence known. “Goodmorning” He spoke cooly making his way over to Phoenix peering over his shoulder (which wasn’t much of an issue as Cas was a few inches taller) to see what he was doing. Instantly his senses were overcome with the sickly sweet smell of the jam and his eyes lit up like a child on Christmas. A mischievous grin appeared on his face and he quickly reached around Phoenix dipping a finger in the jam before popping in into his mouth with a laugh. He took a few steps back away from the counter as if he was afraid Phoenix might thwack him with a wooden spoon. “How is it that it tastes even better than usual?”

Phoenix heard Cas moving up and around, but was mostly too engrossed in his cooking to pay any attention. Well. He was processing the evening and attempting to use the cooking to take his mind off of things. He shouldn't have left.He shouldn't have left Alex like that. But he'd just been... so afraid. He hadn't been thinking straight. He had felt so powerless. And he'd let that get the better of him. Dear God, Alex's abuela was going to kill him if she found out.

He jumped a little at Cas' voice behind him and grinned as he felt his presence behind him. He caught a glimpse of the mischievous look on Cas' face before Cas reached over to swipe some jam. Phoenix went to swat him away with the tea towel but found himself laughing. It was only then that he looked at Cas properly. Cas was still shirtless, just the bandages wrapped around his chest, and his usually perfect hair was curly, a softer, more gentler look. He found himself blushing almost, before turning back to the jam and pancakes. "Always better when it's straight out of the saucepan," he remarked with a smirk. He plated up a few of the pancakes, still warm, and tipped a few spoons of the jam over them before handing the plate to Cas and plating up some of his own.

"Did you sleep okay?" He asked as he sat down at the table. "How's your back?" He asked. And now that he'd mentioned it, all the questions he'd had from the night before came rushing back. Something like that had been brutal and damaging and on a selfish note, Phoenix just found himself hoping that whatever had happened to Cas wouldn't be coming for them. Not after last night. But he wasn't going to push Cas on it either.

Evelyn just grinned as she heard a familiar voice behind him, handing him one of the larger pieces of debris. "Morning. And, well, I wasn't exactly up to anything else," she responded, getting to her feet and brushing her hands on her jeans. She sighed, looking around. "And, well, I couldn't do much to help last night. But I can help now," she said. She felt guilty, and she didn't know why. This wasn't her town, wasn't her home. She shouldn't care so much. But she felt like she should have done something given that the knowledge that they'd had, even if they hadn't known the full extent.

"We need to do something, Markus. Something to... to stop this from happening again," she remarked, looking around. "I mean, I know we're good, but even we can't do this alone. But I refuse to just sit by and let all of this happen again. I don't know how. I don't even know if anyone would help us. But we've got to try, right?" She said, shoving her hands in to her pockets.

The fact that the town wasn't sinking in to misery, wasn't shutting themselves away in their homes to hide and ignore the bad things that had happened, endeared her to the town even more. Instead, they came out to tidy up, to help each other out, to do what they could. She didn't know if anyone would help. But she got the impression that somebody would.

This habit of taking on huge projects whenever he was emotionally distressed was starting to become a bit of an issue, if he was being perfectly honest with himself. But in his defense, Friendsgiving hadn't initially been a huge undertaking. It was more a case of... spiraling out of control and suddenly he had found himself making a spreadsheet of what exactly everyone was bringing and what he had left to do. He'd been awake at 3AM last night cleaning and decorating the apartment and attempting to move around furniture to make some space.

He wasn't thinking about that conversation over breakfast. He wasn't still trying to wrap his head around the whole idea of angels and a higher being and... everything that came with it. And he certainly wasn't trying to come to terms with the fact that he'd had a massive freaking crush on a literal angel. And for once, Phoenix had done what was probably the sensible thing. He'd told Cas that he needed some space to process things. It had been the last thing he'd wanted to do when he finally looked at those goddamn eyes, but this time, his head had won out. His heart had gotten a compromise by inviting Cas to the Friendsgiving dinner, but if Phoenix was being honest, he didn't exactly have high hopes.

Why had he held the dinner in his own damn apartment? Alex's abuela probably would have let him take over her kitchen and hell, probably would have helped in return for an extra large slice of Phoenix' pecan pie. It was too small. Really, it was too small for anyone other than him, Alex, and Jaiden. But no, he'd invited more people than that, and he was stressed. The four cups of extra strong coffee he'd had that morning to try and combat the three hours of poor sleep he had wasn't helping things, sure, but it was either that or risk messing something up, and that was not an option. Everything had to be perfect.

He had no damn control over his own life, and so he was going to take control over this damn dinner if he had to give himself a caffeine-induced heart attack doing it.

Evelyn had only a vague idea of who this Phoenix person was, and she had even less of an idea how she'd ended up with an invitation to Thanksgiving dinner. She had never really been to Thanksgiving. Her family just never did it. But Markus had said he was going. She got the impression he wasn't quite sure why he was going either, but he'd said she should go to "make friends" or something like that. She'd retorted that excuse back at him.

She didn't even know what one brought to Thanksgiving dinner, so she just had a bottle of red wine and a box of chocolates. She didn't even know what to wear so erred on the side of "festive". But she would have been lying if she said that she wasn't kinda looking forward to it, to meeting the various people this peculiar little town had to offer. From what she'd seen so far, she knew it would certainly be interesting.

She knocked on Markus' door, her trademark aviator sunglasses and large hat shielding her face from the sun. She'd been spending most of the time out at night lately, patrolling the woods and the sleeping town, looking for... something. Things had been far too quiet, and it was making everyone uneasy. Evelyn got the impression that they were gathering their strength and their forces, waiting to strike back at them and this time, with enough force to overwhelm them. Evelyn felt like they should be preparing, doing... something. But she was an outsider, it wasn't like she could whip up her own team of patrols or impose a curfew or anything. And so she was stuck in limbo, waiting for something to happen and praying she could help.
