▷ Background: James Nolan grew up in New York City within a working class family. This in itself is not a too bad fate, but his parents inevitably gave in to their own vices long before he was born. His father was a drunk who could not hold down a job and his mother was a drug addict who he also thought might have been a prostitute. His father was both verbally and mentally abusive to him and his mother was often too out of it to care. Often, his parents would neglect him and not pay much attenton to him and he actually preferred it that way as he grew to dislike them both and afraid whenever his father so much as looked at him. Eventually, on Christmas Eve, his father was in debt to a crooked loan shark and offered to let him "have" him. James didn't like the way the man was looking at him: caclulating, but almost hungry. He ran away before he could find out why he was so afraid. He ran and ran, but then, he was safe...
▷ Personality:
James is often kind-hearted and is marked by his fierce loyalty to Santa. The way he sees it, he owes the old man his life. He often likes to help with people who just arrived, particularly the children since he arrived as a child himself. He is willing to do almost any type of work in fact. He is somewhat childish as he loves to play video games and playing in the snow. Sometimes, he just likes to walk around the North Pole, taking in the sites. He is also a rather relaxed individual and, though he might have a short temper, he is able to forgive and forget shortly afterwards. He often likes to joke around and never wants to leave the North Pole as the outside world kind of frightens him, though he'd never admit it.
