Description

Image
Full name: Clive
Nickname/s: None that he particularly approves of, but some people invent them anyway
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Role: The Thief (Bandit)

Appearance, Human Form: From first glance, people can identify Clive as a Skinwalker from his rather unique features. Although normally his hair is just a mess of black and ash strands, it has been cut in an orderly layered fashion, and in this manner, the layers alternate between black and ashen hues. This is natural, and gives him the distinct image of a raccoon, even in human form. The last layer is black and longer, so he ties it back in a low ponytailā€¦ it is safe to say that he has quite the striking hair. Sometimes he is forced to wear a hat to keep from attracting too much attention, and he seems adamantly against dying it. His eyes are a rare but more normal shade that compliments his fair complexion well, being a clear sky-blue. He is of a relatively average height, standing just above 5ā€™9ā€ (177cm), but he is of a leaner stature although he is far from seeming frail. His muscular build is indicative of his speed and dexterity, but it is also evident that he is not the strongest boy of his age. Other traits reminiscent of his animal form are the black claws he bears instead of fingernails. They are blunt, but sharp enough to puncture skin should the need arise.

His apparel is dictated by his role it seems, since he tends to dress in monochromatic schemes of white, black, and shades of grey. He seems to prefer sleeveless clothes, and has a fondness for long vests. He dresses more for functionality than style, but he likes a personal touch everywhere. One item he seems unwilling to give up is a simple silver charm bracelet. He rarely takes it off in human form, and as a raccoon, he sometimes has the trinket around his foreleg, despite the possibility of it getting in the way. It seems to hold sentimental value to him.

Appearance, Animal Form: Clive is a rather average raccoon, with the ashen fur and black markings. He has tufts of white fur around the bases of his black ears, and he has the standard mask for which his kind of Skinwalkers were named. He is of a slightly larger than average size of 87cm (2ā€™10ā€) from nose to tail and weighs an approximate 20lbs (9.1kg). As a raccoon, his blue eyes become dark ā€“ so dark that they seem black, although they flash in the darkness thanks to the reflective retina.

Skills:
Handiwork ā€“ Clive is very good with his hands, being gifted with nimble fingers both as a human and a raccoon. Also as a result of his changed form, he has a hyper-sensitive sense of touch, particularly when it comes to his hands. He can identify people from just the feel of their hands or facial features or objects from just their texture. This, coupled with his good memory, be used in rather useful ways ā€“ he can memorize the shape of a key from touch alone and crudely recreate it. However, for this reason, he hates having his hands or the pads of his paws touched or messed around with. It makes him uncomfortable.

Heightened Senses ā€“ Clive in his changed form has luminous eyes that can see well in the dark. This, coupled with his sensitive forepaws and outstanding sense of smell, helps him navigate in the shadows of the night, which is essential for a thief. Raccoons also have enhanced hearing, so sensitive in fact that he can hear earthworms digging underground. He uses this to his advantage to avoid unwanted foes when navigating in the darkness or otherwise. His sense of smell and hearing are also better than the average human in his human form, but his raccoon form is far more sensitive. Although Cliveā€™s human form has better general eyesight and perception, his raccoon self can see far more clearly in the dark.

Dexterity ā€“ whether itā€™s due to his Skinwalker nature or just his physical build, there is no denying that Clive is well-suited to his role. In human form, he is nimble and fast, able to perform feats that are sometimes acrobatic in their own way. As a raccoon, due to the creatureā€™s short legs and compact torso, he cannot move around very fast ā€“ in fact, it is downright clumsy, but his climbing and stealth is greatly enhanced. Although he can climb relatively well as a human, there is no denying that the smaller form is far more suited to the trees. He is also a strong swimmer, but only in raccoon form.

Lying: be it a gift or a curse, Clive is a good liar. He doesnā€™t miss a beat and the false words flow smoothly from his lips, and he can come up with good ones on the spot. His lies are usually harmless, just to keep someone from prematurely discovering a prank heā€™s set upā€¦ but when the burden of these falsities grow heavier, who knows. He seems to be a little too dependent on them, too prone to use themā€¦ He may one day find heā€™s dug his own grave.

Weaknesses:
Strength ā€“ Clive is a thief. Facing the facts, stealth and dexterity was always more important to him than physical power, and a raccoon isnā€™t really known for its strength. Compared to many others, he is weak, but then again, his job isnā€™t to fightā€¦ itā€™s just not to get caught. To counterbalance this, he tries to make good use of his speed with a short hand weapon to deal just enough damage to escape. Heā€™d rather not waste energy in a power struggle he knows heā€™ll lose.

General Eyesight ā€“ as a raccoon, Clive has relatively bad eyesight, as the form has poor long-distance vision. Furthermore, he has poor perception of color, although he can distinguish green from others quite easily.

Overwhelming Sensations ā€“ should a smell be too overwhelming, itā€™ll render Clive incapacitated in his dizziness and nausea. If a sound is too loud or high pitched, he will experience very acute pain. He despises it even more if they are only damaging to himself. It is bad when heā€™s a human, but incessantly worse when he is in his animal form.

Cold Climate ā€“ when the weather gets cold, Clive gets sluggish and tired. He becomes lazy and unwilling to do much of anythingā€¦ itā€™s nearly a hibernation. However, this condition is not time-dependent nor seasonal, but purely conditional. If the temperatures around him fall too low for his liking, he will most likely just lie down. He may not sleep, but he certainly wonā€™t be very awake either.

Personality: Choosing words carefully, it can be said that Clive is well-suited for his role. As many of his kind, he is a mischief-maker, his pranks ranging anywhere from harmless toā€¦ less so. Most of the time, he doesnā€™t mean much by his tricks ā€“ he was simply bored and thought heā€™d put his talents to good use. He also has a fondness for teasing, and does a lot of it. However, Clive has difficulty apologizing, and when someone gets angry at him, he often responds in a sulking tone and avoids them. It is not that he doesnā€™t wish to reconcile ā€“ itā€™s just not in his nature. It is difficult for him to lower his pride and ask for forgiveness, often trying to convince himself that the blame lies with the other party. He is a prideful and boastful personality.

This leads to a different point ā€“ Clive is very serious about his role. He was a thief before he joined the pack, and so the quality is in his nature. He has a mindset in which, once he takes something, it is officially his, even if he only took it in a joke. He refuses to return anything heā€™s taken, often preferring to destroy it rather than return it. The only exception to this would be when asked to steal something for the sake of the Pack ā€“ then and only then will he willingly hand over his prize. When provoked for his thieving ways, heā€™ll often respond with the phrase, ā€œThe only safe place to keep a treasure is in your heart.ā€ It seems there is more than it seems to these words, because heā€™ll become distant and uncharacteristically serious when it happens. Despite this, he despises it when others mess with his stuff, and will go at almost any lengths to get it back, no matter how trivial. He is particularly protective of a thick-chained silver charm bracelet he usually wears at all times.

Speaking more generally, however, Clive is relatively easy to get along with, as long as the person can deal with his mischievous nature. He is usually jovial, smiling, and amiable ā€“ sometimes just a little too energetic. However, friends will soon learn to keep an eye on any and all of their belongings, because really, as Clive puts it, ā€œAnything has its worth,ā€ and if it has value, heā€™ll want to take it. However, his true friends are few ā€“ although he may seem quite the social character, he grew up in independence, and thus he has developed a solitary nature. No matter how open he may seem, his true sentiments near always remain unspoken. It may seem outwardly that he isn't the sort to hold a grudge, or that he's the sort to forgive and forget, but he will remember every little offense a person has done to him, and although he may not mention it, he does in fact hold grudges.

On a different note, Clive has a strong sense of competition that comes with his youth. The more he fails at something, the more adamantly he will try, and he rarely turns down a challenge from another. He also proposes challenges to himself, and coupled with his curious nature, this might explain why he is such a mischief-maker. He has quite a way with words, as he was gifted with wit and humorā€¦ but he uses this gift in more negative ways, such as teasing or mocking. Despite a certain level of maturity to his actions when it comes to the workings of the Pack, Clive also has a tendency not to think of consequences before he acts. This often leads to problems of his own makingā€¦

Brief History: Clive was bon with the characteristics of a Skinwalker, but he was not abandoned straight away. He doesnā€™t seem to say much more about his past except that before he joined the Pack, he worked with a ring of Skinwalking thieves. He says that he didnā€™t used to be this cheery or mischievous, but he refuses to elaborate on it. When prompted, heā€™ll just look away with an uncharacteristically sullen smile and murmur, ā€œIā€™d rather not say.ā€

Attitudes: ā€œI canā€™t judge everyone quite yet. Iā€™ll get back to this when I meetā€™em.ā€

The way Clive saw it, if lack of water didnā€™t kill him, boredom surely would. He had spent the last several hours making his way across the City Zone, searching for any remaining channels of water. All the prominent streams and brooks were quickly drying out in the summer heat, and that was worrisome. It was the main reason so many people went flocking to Cru and his stupid little reservoir. But really, being oppressed and treated like subservient creaturesā€¦ was life really worth that?

Clive didnā€™t think so. Heā€™d even risk drinking from the polluted river rather than give up his freedom to Cruā€™s Army. However, that was obviously going to be a last resort ā€“ it was why the bandit changer was crouching in the dry bed of what had once been a clean and reliable stream, poking at the dry dirt with clawed fingers. There wasnā€™t a hint of moisture left. Clive clicked his tongue, rising to his feetā€¦ this wasnā€™t good. Yes, the Pack had enough to get by, but without any pure streams of water, their resources just might run outā€¦ and if the sunny sky was any indication, rain was out of the question. The rainwater was all polluted anyway.

ā€œWell, this was pointless,ā€ Clive sighed, turning back towards a passage of ruins. So now the lack of water had been unfortunately confirmed, he would have to do something about the boredom. He had left early in the morning to check on the streams, so he hadnā€™t gotten the chance to talk with anyone yet. It was always boring alone after all, and the City Zone was more barren than ever with everyone flocking to the reservoirā€¦ not that Clive really interacted with strangers all that much. ā€œI should probably go back,ā€ he murmured, before slowly beginning his walk back to the othersā€¦ back to where the Pack would be.

Although he walked at a languid pace, Clive was alert ā€“ he was tense. It was evident from the way his clear blue eyes flitted from side to side, glancing at the shadowed rubble of old buildings, from the way he breathed and stepped quietly, both to avoid attention and also listen for others. One never knew what lurked in the ruins, and the last thing he needed was a mutant on his tail. Or what he considered worse ā€“ one of Cruā€™s followers. They could get pretty irritating. Although many of the buildings ā€“ what legends call ā€˜skyscrapersā€™ were collapsed, some still stood upon brittle foundations, intact, ā€˜But not for much longer,ā€™ he thought grimly.

In the desolate landscape, Clive stood out quite a bit in his monochromatic attire ā€“ white sleeveless shirt, with a long black vest over that, gray shorts and black sandals, but what really stood out was his hair. It was cut in layers, and strangely enough, it alternated black and ash. From the front, one would think he just had messy black hair, but any other angle proved otherwise. The last, innermost layer was made of longer black strands, which he had tied back into a low ponytail. From the strange hair and the clawed fingers, his identity as a bandit changer was rather obvious. Did he blend in? No.

Did he care?

He wasnā€™t really on thieving duty at the moment, so there wasnā€™t all that much benefit to blending in anyway. Besides, he really didnā€™t see the point. However, at the same time, he was still being wary of possible enemies. As he continued walking, his hand latched onto the silver charm bracelet on his left wrist to keep it from jangling. It was quite the noisy trinket, but Clive rarely took it off. Why? He never said much more than that he was a little attached to it. Heā€™d put it in his pocket, but it was filled with little goodies heā€™d picked up on his short excursion ā€“ well, perhaps more took without notice rather than simply ā€˜picked upā€™. It wasnā€™t all that much since his priority had been checking the water supplies, but heā€™d found some odds and ends: bits of food, a switchblade, a satchel of obsolete coinsā€¦ and some things that others would have deemed useless. However, Clive always did say, everything has its worth.

However now that heā€™d gotten a couple prizes, the bandit found himself craving a couple more. Perhaps he could win some from his dear comrades? ā€œIā€™ve been a little too quiet nowadays,ā€ he chuckled to himself. It was the truth. With recent happenings and such, he hadnā€™t really gotten around to pulling tricks on his fellow alliesā€¦ and without that, well, life could get pretty grim, and nobody wanted that.

Just then, a familiar sound cut through the air, and heard the prolonged howl of his leader. ā€œThatā€™s my cue,ā€ Clive grinned before racing off towards the direction of his leader. ā€˜If Mawā€™s howling, thereā€™s no danger,ā€™ he mused, disregarding all his previous caution. The prank could wait until later. It seemed that the Pack was finally going to get moving.
