Ruffino takes his theatrical practice quite seriously, considering it a noble and ancient calling. Tall, thin, and prone to aristocratic and scholarly affectation, his refined character when not performing is completely add odds with his crude circus slapstick. Given the slightest excuse, he will launch into long fits of philosophical soliloquy, boring anyone nearby. Far from the "sad clown" stereotype, however, his disposition is generally joyful, believing everything that happens, no matter how horrible, to be part of a vast, unfolding comedy. He prefers baggy, flowing clothing in white and silver, and when performing wears a mask rather than make-up. He is in his mid to late 50s, but surprisingly agile for his age. He travels with chimpanzee named Sylvia.
