Nicholas D. Keller
I turned my head a little to look at the chair Cole kicked. And I gave a loud scoff. "Your're kidding, right?." I then looked over at the teenage boy. "You're fucking kidding, right? You want me to sit down and tell you my story like we're in group, fucking, therapy? After you put a goddamn knife to my throat?! Well, fuck you, asshole!" I yell, putting up my middle finger along with the 'fuck you, asshole'.
I turn around and walk toward my rental. "And you gotta work on your insults kid," I say, not looking back at him. "Calling me 'grandpa' when I'm in my twenties isn't exactly clever." I pop the door open, then glance over at the house.
"You can tell your girlfriend to come out, too." I said, then sit down, the door to the car still wide open.
*Beep*Beep*Beep*
I hear a ringing in my pocket, must be my cell phone. I answer with a 'Who's this?'
"It's me, bro!" I hear a familiar giggly voice.
"Oh, hey, Alex." I said, my normally ruff voice was replaced with a happier tone. "Why'd you call? Is something wrong?"
"No, I just wanted to call you before I went to bed."
I looked at my watch to check the time, "It's a little early isn't it?"
"I know! But, Megan said that I should get ready for bed!" The little boy sounded furious.
"Well, she is kind of a bitch." I mumbled.
"Yeah, a bitch!" He repeated.
"Hey! Don't say something like that!" I yelled, "You're too young to say that!"
"Why? What does it mean?"
"Ugh... I'll tell you when you're older..." I mumbled again. "Just don't say that in front of Megan!"
"What do I get?" He asked.
"You extortionist!" I said, "Fine, what do you want?"
"I want Mommy to come home." He asked in the saddest voice I'd ever heard.
My breathing stopped for a second. I'd remembered why I was here. If I want to find our mother I'm going to have to work with others, even if that means working with assholes like that guy. "Yeah," I finally said, "I'll bring her home. Goodnight, buddy." I hung up and got out of my car and stared over at Cole.
"You wouldn't happen to be here at Alexandria's request would you, Cole?" I asked, the usual gruffness back in my voice.
