Mikan Ren Hinata, known to most simply as "Ren" or, as she's sometimes called by people who hate her heritage, "Majo" was born in Japan 17 years ago to Yukiko and Kise Hinata, a meister and weapon combo that had met at Shibusen when they first entered the school. Even back then it was well known that the Hinata family was descended from witches that lived hundreds of years ago. Of course, by the time Mikan entered Shibusen when she was 15, everyone seemed to have heard of even a little rumor about it. She was bullied her whole way through elementary school and by the time she entered junior high she'd become less of a target because she was descended from ancient witches and more because she always seemed to cry whenever someone started making fun of her. Even at Shibusen she's been known to cry or get upset when she's teased about it. Although she lived in Japan for most of her life, she moved into the girl dorms at the academy. Because of the distance between Shibusen and where her family lives, she rarely sees or talks to them.

Personality
Mikan is very shy around people she's not familiar with, since she grew up half-fearing talking to people because of their mockery. On the other hand, she is very talkative in front of people she knows she can trust. She cries rather easily, even when she tries her utmost to hold it in. She loses faith in people quickly and is slow to trust them again. Thus far in her life there have only been a few exceptions to this, her Meister Alex being one of them. Mikan often finds herself doodling whenever she's idle, so her entire dorm room is covered with drawings and doodles.

Weapon form
Mikan's weapon form is very unconventional. She actually changes into a 4' long scroll and can use magic to a certain degree. Although one would think a scroll would be a lousy weapon to have, it is actually quite useful. The material of the scroll is actually a solidified version of Mikan's soul, one might say, so it's as resilient as any scythe would be. On the other hand, it is also extremely flexible and easy to manipulate. If the need arises, she can be rolled up, into the form most scrolls are stored in, and used as something like a baseball bat. As for her magical capabilities, Mikan is capable of creating a weak barrier, though with practice she could likely make a stronger one. She can also boost her Meister's analytical capabilities in battle, though only for a short period of time or else she blacks out.
Abilities and Techniques
Alone
By herself, Mikan can transform her arm into part of the scroll, allowing her to also create weak barriers. By herself, Mikan is useful as little more than a flexible and resilient shield.
With partner
Guard - this is typically how a person would guard using Mikan's weapon form. Simply by holding up a section of the scroll tightly so that it does not give when the opposing weapon comes in contact.
Close-range offense - by rolling up the scroll, it can be used much like a baseball bat. It is also possible to keep the scroll from flexing while it is extending, though the edges are rather blunt, basically making it a 4' long blunt sword.
Magical defense - By spinning the scroll through the air around them, the Meister can temporarily create a barrier around themselves. However, whenever the barrier is hit, Mikan feels it.
Magical Analysis - By giving some of her own brainpower temporarily to her Meister, Mikan can boost her Meister's analytical capabilities for a short time. However, if she uses this for too long there is a high possibility of her blacking out from the strain on her own mind.
Soul Resonance - By soul resonating with her Meister, all of the previous abilities she has are boosted. Also, the edges of the scroll become incredibly sharp, making it impossible to touch the edges of without gloves. Her magical capabilities are also enhanced, allowing her to potentially establish a temporary telepathic connection with her Meister. Any other soul resonance techniques are unknown as of yet.
