a character in “Spelheim: The First Magewar”, as played by Mituna

Description

Lalaith

Id-Heran Human

Female | 26

Appearance:
Lalaith stands a 5'7" in height with a thin figure. She has platinum blond hair that reaches her top back; her bangs cover most of her forehead and she usually always has her hair down. Her skin is rather pale because she spends most of her time indoors. Her eyes are small and a light emerald green. Her face is long and more pointy than round. She has high cheek bones and a clean complexion. Her body is petite, almost bony. That is usually hidden though. Lalaith doesn't like showing skin, making her to wear a number of garments. She wears simple dark cloths, a tunic with baggy pants she stuffs in black boots. Over her tunic she wears an over-sized coat unless she's inside her home or work.

Personality:
Lalaith is a very self reliant person who rarely puts her fate in another’s hands. This is why being a doctor is the perfect job for her since she gets to work solo and doesn't depend on anyone. She isn't very patient and prefers to to cut straight to the point. She is also very decisive in her work, thinking doubt as a weakness. She believes a job can't simply be completed, it has to be done with good quality. Some of her flaws are that she can be forgetful of people's names and faces. Being a doctor she has numerous victims, so after dealing with one she often pushes them to the back of her memory or forgets them entirely. The only people she remembers are those she works with or meets on a regular basis. She's also rather awkward in public, like taking jokes too seriously or misunderstanding people's intentions. Though she can seem nonjudgmental, most of the time it's that her mindset is too narrow for anything she doesn't care or find useful. Lalaith is independent and doesn't trust others with completing tasks or keeping their side of a bargain. It doesn't mean she won't socialize with people, she just doesn't expects much from them.

History:
Lalaith was born and raised in Id-Lotei. Her mother, Adel, died a few weeks after giving birth to her with the insufficient medical equipment. This didn't affect Lalaith directly, but indirectly through her father. While her mother was still alive but suffering from giving birth, Levi spent his time studying and researching medicine and the human body. This didn't give much fruit because in three weeks his wife had passed away in her sleep. That only seemed to fuel Levi's obsession with medicine though and the rest of his years he sent on advancing the medical area of Id-Heran. He was able to create a variety of medicine through herbs he collected and discovered on his travels. That, of course, meant he would spent time away from home and his daughter. Because of that, he decided to train Lalaith to be able to take care of his medical house and any customers looking for medical help. Lalaith began working as a medic on her own by the age of 16 and grew more experienced with age. She herself has gathered her own reputation as a medic and her father rarely comes back home, not seeing the need to check up on her anymore.

Magic:
No magic potential.

Additional information:
Lalaith carries around a wild bowie knife that is strapped on its holder on her right waist, usually hidden by her jacket. She isn't the violent type but her father used to make her carry it around for safety when she was young and the habit stuck. She rarely takes it out and the few types she does is when she actually plans on using it.

Writing sample:

It was past midnight, Lalaith had to remind herself when she saw what she saw. She wasn't even sure what her eyes were seeing, the darkness tends to play tricks on you after all. Nevertheless, she kept her eyes trained on the dark silhouette that was around ten feet away. The moon light peeked through the gaps of the forest's trees. In one gap, a tall dark figure could be made out, moving, step by step with a casual pace, towards Lalaith's direction. People rarely roamed the forest, especially at night where one could get so easily lost. There was also little purpose for one to be out at that hour unless you were searching for something or someone with desperate need.

Lalaith avoided the forests at night. It wasn't safe nor the smartest move. She had left the city to search for herbs for her medicine too late though and still had a mile to go before she reached Id-Lotei. While rushing home, she had happened to catch sight of movement; a rare sight in an area that the hunters had already cleared out. She had come to an immediate halt soon after, training her eyes to see if what she saw wasn't a trick of the night. After staring at the person closing in on her, Lalaith came to unsettling conclusion she was not alone. To make matters worse, the stranger was holding something that could only be deemed as a weapon.

Her hand reached for her dagger hidden by her jacket and wrapped her hand on the handle as if she had done so a million times. Her finger tightened around it, ready to pull it when the time called for it. She moved behind the tree closest to her. Her eyes targeted the figure and she began to pull her bowie as she took a much needed breath to calm her nerves.

"Please don't cut me up, Lal."

The familiar voice hit Lalaith like rocks. Her hand immediately let the knife fall back into its holder. "What are you doing out here, Lorenz?" Lalaith was quick to question and came out from her hiding place. The figure had finally gotten to a point where she could see them clearly and there, worn out and leaning against a tree branch, stood Lorenz - her neighbor. All he could muster was a pained smile.

"Y-You weren't home so I thought something had happened to you. I came here looking for you but, uh, kind of fell and broke my foot or something," Lorenz explained as quickly as he could. His eyes looked down at the foot that had twisted itself in a way it really shouldn't be. Lalaith wasted no time to go examine the injury. She knelt down and lightly touched the bone sticking out to make sure he could still feel it. The sharp breath he took in answered her question.

"Broke you ankle to be exact," Lalaith stated, matter-of-factly, as she straightened back up and moved to help her neighbor support himself on her. "We should get back to the city before it gets even later."

So begins...

Id-Lotei had become a city of life recently. It could be due to the fact that the Spring Moot was coming together faster every day. Every person wanted to put their part and give their help during the event. Merchants, travelers, caravans, and many more people from all Id-Heren were showing up, filling the city up with more energy and work. It was a change from the usual, which ended up with people focusing on their work and keeping to themselves most of the time. The change made Lalaith wonder if she was in the same city at times. She wasn't much of a fan of the commotion and strangers that the Moot brought along with it. One thing she did enjoy was the merchants it brought because it gave her the chance to buy medical herbs and equipment she couldn't get otherwise. Traveling all the way to the Teeth to gather plants the only grew there wasn't something she wanted to do, especially with the dragons roaming around. Lalaith left the traveling to her father; it was just a bothersome task that she didn't want a part of.

Finished bandaging her client, Lalaith stood from her bench and began cleaning the mess she had made. "That's it," she stated and looked over at the man who tried to move his sprained wrist. The sharp breath he took had the pain he felt obvious. "I suggest you don't move it that much so soon," Lalaith added once she saw that. The man simply gave a silent nod, got up, and said a quick thank you before walking out of the building. Lalaith continued cleaning her table of the leftover bandages. She was used to all types of customers and had gotten the mental state of not caring about victims themselves, but their injuries or medical problems.

Once she finished putting everything where she was supposed to, Lalaith slipped on her coat. The weather outside was actually warmer than cold but it was a habit of Lalaith to wear it outside almost all of the time. After putting on the sign to inform there was no service at the moment, the medic made her way out of the door and mixed herself into the crowd of people that filled the streets of the capital city that day. Usually Lalaith spent most of her time indoors, finding at a very young age that people could hurt themselves in any time of the day. Yet she wanted to see how the Moot was going and, even more, look out for any early merchants with good herbs she could use to stock up. It was also during the Moot that most people got injured, mainly because there couldn't seem to be celebrations without alcohol which tends to lead to stupid actions; stupid actions that involve getting someone hurt. Not having the time to leave Id-Lotei and gather resources from the forests around the city, she could only hope someone out there was selling.

The increased number of people in the streets, Lalaith noted, was something else she didn't like about the coming of the Moot. It was harder to move and she was the type of person who preferred her personal space. Her business and home, both the same building, were in the middle of Id-Lotei. Unfortunately that meant it was a long walk to arrive where the Moot was being assembled. Many of the Saint King's vassals had arrived early. They were easy to spot when they arrived and usually locals would either spoil or stay as far as they could from them. Lalaith stayed away from them for the most part unless there happened to be need of medical attention. They usually came expecting her father though and most left to find a male medic. Her main customer were commonly the locals of Id-Lotei who knew about her medical skills or the urgent cases who had no time to look for other medics.

Lalaith was out of Id-Lotei more later than sooner but was out nonetheless. Most of the tents had been set up and people were now settling the stuff inside them. There were all types of people walking around, watching the Moot slowly take its form. Lalaith's eyes roamed all over, checking out where merchants were trying to sell before more rivals showed up to steal their customers. They were shouting things, reduced prices for example, in hopes of reeling people in. Lalaith's attention was easily attracted, as unusual as that may sound for her, and would check out what they had to offer. After all, she had little supplies left at work and plenty coins to restock for at least two seasons.
