Summoner Chronicles

Angels, demons, ghosts, and ghouls. Only the best can be a true summoner. Now join in this story my dear hunters. The story of how a class of outcast summoners saved the earth, heaven, and even hell.

CortezHorse are listed as curators, giving them final say over any conflict & the ability to clean up mistakes.

Introduction

(first off this is barely a school rp.) the main function of the rp will be in the class room, and on missions in the outer world. The school is just a home base that will be visited.)

Summoning is an art that was used by some of the greatest hunters in memory. Atticus the great, Martha the slayer, and Bob the unspoken. In past time summoners were praised for their skill, their intelligence, and their nobility. In present times though summoners are looked upon as monster sympathizers. Filth that sides with the things they are supposed to hunt. The summoning class at the hunting institution is small, drafty, and in an expanded utility closet. The only students that are put in the class are those that don't know better, are seen with great potential for nothing but summoning, or those that have dreams the glorious past of summoning.

there are five slots for people and only five.

Being a new summoner you will need the assistance of a familiar. A familiar is the first creature that you will summon in the class which will from then on be bound to you. Familiars are you guides, assistants, informants, and possibly your friends. A summoner does not get to choose their familiar, but instead the ritual of summoning a familiar will bring out the creature that is in it's essence the best match for said summoner. In game this is what familiar is. Before we do the first summon you will e-mail me your familiar of choice out of the list provided. I would ask you to please try and choose a familiar that resembles a deeper part of your character. Maybe your character is a dark and quiet type that thrives on collecting information. Then pick a demon that has a personality that compliments that. You could also go with a deeper part of your character that is rarely shown like my co-gm did with her bubbly character that has a windigo for a familiar. Use your imagination and maybe even get a bit out of your comfort zone. If you cannot find a familiar out of the list provided then e-mail me or my co-gm and we will try and help. adding a few familiars to the list is not out of the question either. Oh and just for fun you will not get to see what your familiar looks like until it has been summoned for the first time in game. You get a name and personality description only. You can assume from some of the descriptions what they look like, but you may be surprised by others. Also you will not be controlling your familiar, Cortez and I will. They are NPC characters that are bound to you but not wholly controlled by you.

Another aspect of familiars is that in game when you have received your familiar they will grant you a power. Something from themselves for you to use. Having an avenging angel you may get a flaming sword, or a shadow demon may allow you to teleport through shadows, etc. Your familiars will be bound into an item on your characters person. It can be a ring, a book they always carry, jewelery, heck it can even be a piece of clothing like underwear if your feeling humorous.

Another aspect of the game will be summons. You can summon out of a list of creatures that will be provided later. The summons cannot be familiars, and can only stay out until you banish them. Once banished you will have to go through the whole process of summoning them again in game to get them back out again. As low level summoners you will not be able to control two creatures at once and therefore your familiar will go back into their bound object and only have a mental connection with you. You will lose their power and gain whatever power the creature you summoned grants you as well as the ability to command the creature. Once again these creatures are NPC and will be controlled by Cortez, and I. Though you can tell the summons what to do and they will do so be wary of more tricky summons, particularly demons. If you give them a chance some will deceive you in any way possible.

Familiar list:

Name: Emil
Type: Monster/Magic
Class: Araechni
Personality: Emil, just like most Araechni, lusts after blood. It’s what keeps him going, what keeps his powers strong. Emil can spin words just as well as he can spin webs which make him a very difficult summon to possess. If you’re bound to this creature then be prepared to be tested, or be dominated.

Name: Cornelius
Type: Demon
Class: Imp
Personality: Cornelius was born and bred a warrior, it’s what he was trained to do and you could say it even flows through his blood. If you’re a fighter then this summon is perfect for you. Cornelius is loyal to a strong master, willing to teach his methods if his summoner proves themselves.

Name: Mendabra- Taken by LunaTwilight
Type: Demon
Class: Spy
Personality: Mendabra is a spy for the demon army, for Lucifer himself. The words he crafts and twists are beautiful to say the least and anyone would be hard pressed not to be tempted and tricked by him. He blends in with his surroundings, with the crowds, you’ll never know he’s there but when you do he’ll lull you with sweet promises. Many summoners have been lost to him.

Name: Albin- Taken by Sathandra
Type: Demon
Class: High Imp
Personality: Albin looks every bit angelic but looks are deceiving as they say. The ghastly power that Albin possesses is generally enough to send most enemies screaming. Always happy, especially when gore is involved, you’ll find it tough not to want to cuddle this little guy…but please no cuddling.

Name: Benen- Taken by Selene Durlan
Class: Demon
Type: Warrior
Personality: Once again this is a moment of appearances might be deceiving, a lesson well learned as a summoner, Benen appears harsh and threatening but by all accounts will keep to himself if you stay on your side of the court. Laid back, calm and willing to teach, Benen is excellent for first timers although his mug generally scares them away.

Name: Jeston- Taken by WaltJRimmer
Type: Angelic
Class: Low Warrior
Personality: Although Jeston is an angel you couldn’t tell by hanging around him. He acts every bit human, and not a nice human either. He’s rude, hard headed and inconsiderate; kind of like your old college roommate and that’s exactly why God has put him on a hiatus. If you find yourself bound to him then please don’t take it personally.

Name: Amancio
Class: Angelic
Type:Fallen
Personality: Amancio is still technically an angel although now he’s cut off from heaven’s power due to his falling from God’s good graces. The transformation in his appearance is obvious but his angelic looks and wings still persist. He’s quiet, here to do a job and not thrilled about being forcefully drug to the side of some human. If you’re looking for a pal to hug about with then let’s hope you don’t bond with him, hm?

Name: Makszi
Class: Demon
Type:Disease
Personality: Makszi might be small but his bite will bring you to your knees, quite literally. There aren’t many, no matter how big, that will mess with this tiny runt. He’s perpetually angry, always looking for a fight and ready to spread his plague upon anyone who so much as even looks at him funny. Little man syndrome is the best that we can come up with but don’t tell him we said that. If you’re bound to him then remember he likes peppermints, they keep him in a more pleasant mood.

It's first come first serve for the familiars. I will send you the pic or a link to the pic after you have summoned you familiar for the first time in game so you can put in it your profile.

The character sheet goes like this.
name:
Age:
Physical description:
Familiar:
Personality:
History:

Pretty straight forward.
Look at CortezHorses (My co-GM's) profile if you need any guidance.
Don't worry about the familiar just yet. You will need to edit that in later. I will put up a per-selected list of familiar names and personalities which you will then get to choose from. I will go more in detail about all of this later, but for now just leave that spot empty. Remember that you are fresh students to the hunters academy. You barely know how to fight, and only the basics of magic. Mostly theories and concepts, no practical field uses. I won't have an upper age limit for the characters you make. Most of them will be around college student age. If you character is 80 years old and just now applying for the hunters academy then I want a good reason why they were even accepted. The lower limit is 18.

The hunter academy is a secret institution where only those borne with the ability for fey sight go. Fey sight is the ability to see creatures from the other side of the veil. Goblins, faeries, gnomes, ghosts, etc. Generally the ability is genetically passed down through family members, and therefore is easily monitored by the council of five (more on them down below). Incidents do occur though were a child with no known connection to the sight has the ability. These children are generally treated as you would expect by people who do not know that monsters truly exist. There are scouts put into place by the institute to search out these children and bring them to the institute when they hit the age of adult hood. There are several academies around the world, but this rp is based at the American academy.

The council of five are the ruling council that run the academy. They are comprised of one member from each school of hunting. Evocation, summoning, combat, Thaumaturgy, and alchemy. I'll explain more about them if y'all want to know.

Ok so here are some general rules and I reserve the right to change or add on any new rules as I please.

1. No god mode: if during combat you just write that you insta-destroy whatever you look at then I will have said thing devour your face.

2. Be respectful to everyone ooc.

3. Controlling a character that is not your own without permission from the owner is strictly forbidden.

4. I require any applicant to pm me a try out post of whatever you want but it must be at least two paragraphs. Please and thank you.

5. If you wish to drop out of the rp at any point then just let me know. Shoot me a pm or announce it in the ooc. It is terribly frustrating when a person doesn't post in one rp but is extremely active in another. If you want to drop out I promise I wont rip your head off.

6. There WILL be fighting in this rp and I would appreciate it if you don't instantly kill whatever opponent you are facing. If you post a good fight then I will make sure your enemy goes down or takes an appropriate amount of damage.

7. Post in the proper areas please. It helps keep things organized

All Eliza could register was terror. The summoning had been forgotten. Jack’s movements were never noticed. From the moment those shards shattered to the depths of hell; everything was filled with that single, utmost, pure terror. As those red eyes shone and the demon’s hand stretched forward, that terror formed into the deepest depression she had ever felt. A fear that spread like the shadows Mendabra was made of. Yet between all of this was the coldest comfort she had ever felt in her entire life. A promise like a kiss of death if she let it be. But Jack had managed to break through her fear just enough for his words to set root.

What the hell am I doing. The HELL I’m trusting a demon. Fighting back the mental assault, the terror lessened; and finally the urge to let this thing in was gone. How she did it, she did not know; but it was done. Mendabra was bonded to her till the day she dies.

Her senses finally back to reality, Eliza was taking deep breaths to steady herself as Mendabra and Jack spoke. She was pretty sure she was still shaking, but that was the least of her worries as words were exchanged between her two mentors. “Students lost to a demon spy. Can’t imagine why.” She said with a weak laugh. Dang it, I’ve got to pull it together. And what are they talking about anyways? I know students can be lost in summoning… but usually by their familiars. What’s been happening in this class? May be something worth looking into later. Mendabra accepted me far too easily for a demon of his standing… I’m going to have to be careful with the lot of them.

With the shaking finally stopped, Eliza stepped away from the summoning circle with her senses fully restored. And crap it was nicer without all of them. Sometime during the summoning she had managed to grip the actual blade of the knife, cutting a pretty good gash to the side of her palm in the process. Guess I was trying to snap myself out of it. Inspecting the silver knife a bit more closely, the young blonde weighed it in her palm before flipping it. “Nice knife. Well Mendabra, I do believe this would do just nicely to bond you too.” Showing the blade to her now familiar, Eliza slipped the little prize into her boot for later. If she was going to be carrying something around, it might as well be useful for more than one thing. Plus it was a nice knife. Pressing her thumb to the cut on her palm to at least slow the bleeding, Eliza turned her attention to the last student in the room; nodding her head to Miss Dominatrix as she took her flying riceball from the room with a ‘good luck’ exit.

Eliza could only give a withered look through the last summoning. The girl honestly sounded like a squeaking mouse as she cut her palm open. This class better have a first aid kit in here. As the smell of sulfur hit her nose, it didn’t leave many options other than another demon would be joining them. While the blood piled higher on each other, Eliza kept her eyes on the blonde girl to see how she was handling it. Then as Benen finally made his appearance, she could only raise an eyebrow at the greeting he received from River; as well as the one he gave to his summoner. “This is going to be interesting.”

With all the summonings complete, Eliza took another look at Mendabra before beckoning to him with a finger. “You and me need to have a little talk.” Making her way through the classroom, she made her way out the classroom door and shut it behind them before going further into the hallway outside the class. This should work fine enough. I want to hear what Jack and this guy have to say separately. “Alright then. What exactly was all that back there.” She asked with a polite smile that did not reach her eyes, “I see you and my teachers are… acquainted with one another. Care to clarify what happened to your previous charges?”

Speechless, Alexander stood, a dumbfounded look on his face. He only moved when the next person came to take his place to summon their familiar. He fell back into a chair and his mind went blank. It was like his brain was overwhelmed and just blacked out, even though he was still conscious. He didn't even notice what else was going on. Slowly, he began to think again. Why? It may have been better just to die. He looked at Jeston with a look mixed with worry and disgust, but no word uttered. As he heard someone leave, he realized that was probably a good idea. Slowly, he stood and started towards the door. He softly groaned, "Come on." He motioned to Jeston to follow, stopping to let someone else out of the room first.

His ears were ringing and he could barely hear anything that wasn't in his head. Originally planning to go out into the hall, he saw that was already taken, so he followed the way he came as well as he could remember back outside. He continued his silence, not even knowing if his new companion said anything, not really caring anyway. Eventually, they got outside. He enjoyed the air and the feeling of being outside after everything that just happened. It seemed to help clear his mind and the ringing in his ears subsided.

He began picking up and tossing stray rocks and such that he found. "I, *sigh*, I guess now we're, I can't believe I'm saying this, stuck together." He turned and faced Jeston. "I just can't figure out why. Look at yourself, you're a mess. I didn't even know to believe in angels. Looking at you, I guess I really shouldn't." He tossed what he had in his hands out and tried to think of what to do.

"I'm a bit new to this, if you haven't been able to guess. So I'm not exactly an expert on how these things work. So, since everything's fallen into place as it has, I guess," he rubbed his temple trying to think of what to say or do about everything that was going on. "I don't know. The people in there," motioning back to the building, "seemed to know you. You've had experiences with them before, I take it? If we have to work together, it would be best if I know you're history. So, tell me your story." He took out the piece he'd been working on and in frustration threw that out too. Watching it fly off as he listened to Jeston's response gave him an idea. He needed to bind him to something, right? Why not a carving?

“Stupid alarm clock!” Diego cursed the useless piece of crap that always failed when he needed it most. Sneakers slapping the linoleum as he hurried to his class, being late on the first day was never a good idea. Teachers were quick to label late students slackers and he didn’t want to be on that list. The day before Diego had taken the time to memorize the location of the room at least, so that would save time and help him be less late than he might have been. He was itching to see what summoning was all about, just the mere idea of the possibilities that lay ahead put a bounce in his step.

His total focus on getting to class nearly caused him to miss a trio who were leaning against a wall talking and joking. Two of them wore jeans and t-shirts but the third was wearing a jersey for a team Diego didn’t recognize. Maybe they have a team here, Diego thought with a thrill of excitement. While he wanted to stop and have a chat with the students, the need to get to class was stronger. He settled for a wave instead and a quick shout hello followed by a head nod as he passed them. After class he would try to look for them and introduce himself properly.

Hiking his backpack up, he turned the last corner and stopped in front of the classroom’s door. Diego attempted to smooth his wrinkled shirt with his hand, but the gesture was useless the wrinkles were stuck fast in the fabric. With a shrug he accepted his appearance and carefully turned the knob, intending to quietly slip in the back and apologize to the teacher afterwards. Though that changed as soon as he stepped through the door.

“Holy shit!” Diego burst out, a bit too loudly for the relatively quiet classroom. There was a hulking creature standing calmly in the middle of the room. Huge horns curled back over a thick scale covered head, rows of razor sharp teeth in a wide mouth, pure pitch black eyes set back in their sockets, and the fae also only possessed four slits where a nose was normally positioned, what a sight the demon was.
I want one. Diego thought as he dropped his backpack in a vacant seat before stepping closer. That was when he noticed the fae’s gaze was locked on a slim girl. She had the look of a cheerleader, which was another confirmation that this school had a football team. His eyes lingered on the impressive demon a bit longer before he noticed another woman who sported a large collection of tattoos.

She radiated confidence and authority while she watched the cheerleader girl; which made Diego figure that she was actually a teacher, even though her appearance strongly suggested otherwise. Might as well bite the bullet and apologize now.

“Hi, my name’s Diego Taylor. Sorry I’m late, alarm clock troubles. Looks like I missed something really cool.” He said gesturing to the towering demon.

River watched with a smile as Benen introduced himself to Kalika. There’s a high chance this girl won’t accept him. She seems the type that’d rather have something cute and fluffy. She was going to hope though, that this girl didn’t throw away the chance at having an amazing teacher. River was so enthralled with the introductions that she didn’t even notice a fifth student come in. A fifth! The only reason she turned her eyes to him was his outburst. Ha, always entertaining to see the first timers reactions to demons.

The boy introduced himself then spouted an apology for the late entry after he had finished ogling Benen. River grinned at him, crossing her arms comfortably as she spoke. “Oh, don’t worry Mr. Taylor it happens to the best of us. You didn’t miss much, just a life and death struggle with a naga as well as the summoning of demons, angels and imps.” Her grin spread into a full fledged smile. “Perhaps you make certain you won’t be late again, hm?” Now she’d have to give him the run down on summoning a familiar which didn’t bother her too much. She did enjoy teaching after all but geez, twice in one day? Usually by this point they’d lost a student or two not gained more.

“Alright!” She clapped her hands together for emphasis and to gain attention as she often did when teaching. “You’ll be summoning a familiar much like Benen here.” River gestured to the demon who nodded his head at Diego. “Benen could you take your summoner out of the circle?” Benen nodded again and approached Kalika. “Come now dear.” He ushered her to the back of the class and was forced to hunker down due to his height.

The circle was clear and River motioned for Diego to step up on the box. “Now, what you’re going to do Mr. Taylor is cut your hand, arm, forehead, whatever part of your body you so please and let a few droplets fall into the circle. After that you’ll will your blood, the life force in it, to bring forth your familiar. I’ll help shape the magic to bring your familiar here but once it’s here you’ll need to focus on it, whatever the fae ends up being, and keep it here and under control. Got it? Good.”

River waited as Diego cut himself, letting a few droplets fall onto the floor. “There we are. Now, just focus.” Her hand followed the line of her tattoos before extending toward the circle. The blood evaporated into a mist, twirled in the air then settled on the ground. It thickened then began to change form, settling into a thick goop that bubbled with heat. Was that lava? The lava bubbled and roiled, a pair of fire covered hands emerged from the pit and began to heft their owner out. The hot liquid dripped from the fae’s body, dissipating into nothingness.

Image

The creature looked about with calm blue eyes, a bit too calmly for River’s liking. “Ok Mr. Taylor, hold him.” A fallen angel? That’s new. She moved to pull the incense stick out of her pocket and begin marking the air. Still the angel didn’t make a move and watched the proceedings without emotion. Once the tethering was complete, Diego would feel a cool presence in his mind that burned hot at the same time. It was unusual and distant feeling but the presence calmed his nerves. There was no fight but the roiling of emotions under the surface of cool was easily felt in the fae.

“This is, uh, this is new for the class Mr. Taylor. What we have here is a fallen angel. It’s neither demon nor angel, somewhere in the middle. They can be helpful or deceiving, there’s no one stereotype I’m afraid. Be wary of him. Now uh, taking him somewhere so he can’t keep staring at me.” She eyed the angel nervously and didn’t lose the tension in her stance until his gaze turned to Diego. His wings ruffled slightly as he stared at his summoner. “You better prove yourself human.” With this said he walked past Diego and began poking about the classroom.

Jack gave a slight smile as Benen appeared in the circle. At least one of the familiars wouldn’t be any trouble. The teacher gave a sigh and rolled his neck to loosen the tight muscles when another by appeared in the doorway. “Well I’ll be damned,” Jack muttered under his breath. It was rare to have this many students in one class; so this one would probably be the one to die. Too many students had survived their familiar summoning today. Generally by now at least one of them would have died.

Jack sat in silence and watched the last students summoning. His eyes widened as the fallen angel emerged from the lava. They had dealt with Jeston a number of times, but Jeston was a particular case. Fallen angels were almost just as powerful as regular angels minus the holy power granted too them. With a shake of his head Jack dismissed the mystery. It didn’t really matter in the end. What mattered is what kind of familiar this fallen angel was. If he was anything like Mendabra then he warranted watching closely. Jack stood and addressed the two people left in the classroom. Barbie, and the jock. That sounded like it would make a good sitcom Jack mused as he addressed them. “Class is over for today. You can go and learn more about your familiar. Personally I would suggest trying to make friends with them. Otherwise this is going to be a very long year. Now if you wouldn’t mind, close the door when you leave.” Jack turned around and started looking on the shelves for a book he was wanting to study.

Mendabra

Mendabra hissed under his breath as Benen appeared. “Waste of a good demon, didn’t even put up a token fight. Pathetic,” he whispered under his breath.

“You and me need to have a little talk.” His summoner said with a gesture.

“Certainly my dear.” The shadow man glided out of the classroom behind the girl.

“Alright then. What exactly was all that back there.” She asked with a polite smile that did not reach her eyes, “I see you and my teachers are… acquainted with one another. Care to clarify what happened to your previous charges?”

Mendabra smile his toothy smile and bowed his head. “Of course,” he said as his red eyes glowed faintly with inner light, “my only job now is to enlighten, and guide you my dear. All that I know is yours to partake of. I am but a humble servant.” Mendabra paused slightly as if collecting his thoughts then continued. “Jack, River, and I have met of a number of separate occasions. I have been the familiar of a number of their most gifted students, but sadly as you can see none of them managed to keep me,” he purred. “You see the students under my guidance always end up at the…how do you say…top of the class? The problem with being at the top is that the council of five start looking in on enterprising young students. Those five old fools are scared of young blood that may come rising up and becoming stronger than them. They like to keep a thumb on those that are potential threats, and when they cannot keep that thumb down they eliminate the problem.”

The demon looked hard at the girl and leaned in conspiratorially to whisper to her. “They send Mr. Demur, and Miss McCree after the student. If the students cooperate then they are tried and executed quickly, if they struggle then they are executed in a just as expedient, but messier manner.” A somehow warm and yet ice cold chuckle emerged from the demon as he leaned away from the girl. “Jack said for you not to trust me, to take my words with a grain of salt. Well the blood on his hands is just as red as the blood on mine. The only difference between him and me are that I don’t try and hide what I am. Of course don’t forget about the dear Miss McCree in their either. Beneath all of that joy and politeness on the outside lingers something,” Mendabra gave a small shiver of pleasure, “just as vile.”

Jeston.

“Dammit,” Jeston yelled as the binding fell completely into place. After a little cussing and ranting the angel just crossed his arms and put on a scowl as he stared at his summoner. "Come on." His summoner motioned to Jeston to follow, stopping to let someone else out of the room first.

Alexander began picking up and tossing stray rocks and such that he found.

“Yeah well fuck you too,” Jeston said with a scowl as he turned around and studiously ignored his summoner.
"I'm a bit new to this,” Alexander said, “if you haven't been able to guess. So, tell me your story." He took out the piece he'd been working on and in frustration threw that out too

Jeston glared at the nearest wall for a second before turning around. He never let a chance to bitch about his problems pass by. “Fine you wanna know about my story I’ll tell you. I was created before your kind was even a twinkle in the big man’s eye,” he said with a gesture upwards, “and yet I’m sitting here now, bound against my will, to a weak little meat bag like you. Or maybe you’re talking about before this huh? Maybe you want my life story? Well go screw yourself!” The angel’s eyes flared up as he continued on with his story like he hadn’t just refused to tell it.

“I was a warrior angel of the lord before the fall. I fought against Lucifer and his traitors,” Jeston bit the last word as he said it. “I was stuck as a guardian angel after the battle as a reward for my good deeds. The most fricken boring job ever. Then when I partake of a little entertainment the archs put their thumb on me and say bad Jeston, you shouldn’t do that Jeston, not our way Jeston. Then those self-righteous pricks punish me by taking a hunk of my power away to make me think about what I did. Now I’m stuck here with you and I’m just praying that this is some kind of angelic candid camera.”

As she made her way to her room Kenzie noticed the looks she was getting from other students; shock, glares, curiosity, and even the occasional 'Aww it's so cute!' look. 'Yeah well if they saw what I just did they wouldn't feel that way.' she thought looking down at him. He had finally given up his struggle and had relaxed in her arms, although 'relaxed' probably wasn't the right word for it. More like wilted. "Where am I?" the little imp asked, it was still strange for her to hear him in her head. "Uh, you're at a place of learning on Earth." Kenzie shifted him to one arm as she opened the door to her room. She wondered if she really had to hold him, he wasn't going to go far if she didn't was he? 'Ah well better safe than sorry.' she thought giving a mental shrug.

Kenzie sat down on her bed crossed legged, the little imp in her lap settled in and looked up at her after asking her who she was. "My name's Mackenzie, but Kenzie is fine. I'm a student here learning the art of summoning. Part of being a summoner apparently is having a familiar. That would be you. We're kind of partners now." she sat him on her pillow and watched him for a minute wondering what he thought of all of this. In some ways it kind of felt like kidnapping, but that could also just be because of how cute the little guy ways. 'Yeah cute and blood thirsty.' Kenzie's eyebrows drew together as a question crossed her mind, could he hear her thoughts? Maybe she could talk to him that way too, or maybe it was just a one way type of gig.

She decided to hold off on the Q&A for a moment figuring that it'd be best if she looked for something to bind him to. Kenzie hadn't really spent anytime unpacking her things so she'd have to start digging around. There was something she had in mind for him, it was in a jewelry case in one of her bags. As she rifled through her things she would occasionally glance back at him making sure he was still there. When she finally found it she returned to her bed and showed him what she had. It was a decorative key necklace with angel wings and various other details. "So the scruffy guy named Jack, who I think is the instructor, said that we needed to bind you to something. I'm picking this." Well now that she had the object picked out what the hell did she do now. They really took the whole 'Toss ya in the deep end and hope that ya swim' thing to a whole nother level.

Eliza had to fight the urge to back away as Mendabra leaned toward her and purred out his enjoyment in his answer. If he was any other demon, she would have been ready to at least knife him for pulling that humble servant crap; but no, her luck had this thing as her familiar. So how is she supposed to bring herself to trust him.

I’ve known Teach and McCree for the same time I’ve known Mendabra. Sure he’s a demon, but at least I know not to take his word for what it is. The other two… Why would they kill their own students? Teach didn’t deny it, and McCree is awfully perky for this line of work. Course, that could just be McCree. But what did the other students do. They had Mendabra as a familiar, those two as teachers, and were they all the top of the class? I wonder… With a side glance at Mendabra, Eliza narrowed her eyes to a questioning glare. Exactly what was his guidance and knowledge he felt the need to share with them. Or that they were stupid enough to ask for. Knowledge is power, and with too much or the wrong use, it probably could have spooked the old coots on the council. But why send two instructors after them? And how did they let it go that far with the students if they were to be teaching them. Darn it! I didn’t sign up for this.

Dropping the glare, Eliza let out a sigh. “I guess there’s really no use in trying to figure out everything on the first day. But if what you say is remotely true, then I’ll just have to make sure I’m not at the top of the class then.” Not that I was planning on it anyways. Too much attention, too much work. With that said, she noticed that more people were starting to leave their classes… and conveniently avoid the hallway she and her demon were occupying. “It might be better if we move this little chat elsewhere. And before you even start, don’t call me ‘My Dear’. It’s as creepy as hell coming from someone that looks like – well – you.” She wasn’t entirely sure what he would come up with instead, but maybe it wouldn't give her a cold chill anymore.

On that note, Eliza started to make her way down the network of halls and back to her room, making sure Mendabra was staying close behind her. She tried to take the lease trafficked route, but it made no difference as one group scattered in the opposite direction, while other students stood by with a glare at herself. And the welcoming committee is warming up. She was keeping quiet while they walked, not wanting anyone to overhear them; but she wasn’t done with Mendabra yet.

Once she reached her room and let them in, her décor showed she hadn’t cared much for moving in. A few duffel bags were tossed around, one with its contents spilled open from getting ready this morning. And the only boxes were opened to display a selection of books and journals from her family library; along with a case of knives and small weapons she had stowed under her bed. “Home sweet home. Now, I have two more questions. You can answer in whatever order you want. First off, you knew that other demon back there. Benen, I think. Can you tell me about the other students familiars if you know of any of them. And second. For a little test run on this guidance thing. Let’s have a little scenario. If I was to summon, let’s say a… Naga for instance… And it was pretty pissed for whatever reason. How would I take care of it so I can finish the summoning without it, or myself, getting killed.” Not bothering with the smile this time, Eliza flopped down on the edge of her bed to await her answers. Ok buddy. Let’s see what you have to give me on the Naga. I already know and seen Teach’s method. Let’s see what you’ve got. Give me some clues here on what could have happened in the past.

Albin

The human, Kenzie, he found out her name was, sat him on a pillow and began explaining where he was, who she was and what exactly was going on. He cocked his body in a display like a dog cocking its head when listening intently. Partners? We’re partners? That doesn’t sound too bad and she doesn’t seem too bad either. This isn’t anything like he’d heard in the stories of the summoners who were horrible to their summons and treated them like slaves. In fact, he found he was more curious now than worried like he was when he first arrived.

Albin was put at ease by the very fact that he could sense Kenzie’s apprehension at taking him from his home. He also felt she meant him no harm; she wasn’t lying to him. His blue eyes followed her as she rifled through boxes looking for something, occasionally glancing over her shoulder to check on him. Finally she revealed a necklace and stated why she’d searched so hard for it. He flittered his wings and trilled loudly. “It’s so pretty! I won’t mind sleeping there.” He grinned, a cute, small thing, very unlike the horrific smile before that revealed his teeth. “You don’t know how to bind me to it, do you?” A small, bird-like titter came from him; a laugh. “Silly, it’s easy! I heard this from the stories too!” Albin fluttered his wings and flapped over to Kenzie, hovering near her head. “You just have to want me there and I’ll be bound to it. Something about will? That’s what I heard at least. We can try and see if it works. Oh! My name is Albin by the way.”

It was difficult to explain, his apprehension was melting away as every second passed. Being able to communicate with her, feel her feelings as well as his own made him feel comfortable. He wasn’t home and with his family but this felt like he was where he was supposed to be. Honestly he couldn’t figure out how the horror stories about summoning got started. He could see being great friends with this Kenzie meat bag!

Dropping the glare, Eliza let out a sigh. “I guess there’s really no use in trying to figure out everything on the first day. It’s as creepy as hell coming from someone that looks like – well – you.” She wasn’t entirely sure what he would come up with instead, but maybe it wouldn't give her a cold chill anymore.

“As you wish, my dear lady,” Mendabra said with a bow of his head that might have hid the ghost of a smile on his shadowy face. The demon glided silently behind his summoner as she led him to her room. The demons eyes quickly flicked around the room taking in the surroundings and noting them as he listened. The lights in the room dimmed as he entered. The demon listened quietly as his summoner made her requests of knowledge. A small hiss escaped the demon at the mention of Benen.

Mendabra paused for a second once again seeming to gather his thoughts. “Well my lady. I have some information on all of the familiars present in this school. You see my job is gathering information, and I am quite good at that,” he purred. His voice changed slightly into that of a teacher as he spoke again. “Benen is a somewhat high ranking warrior demon in hell. He is a master combatant and quite the strategist as well. He does not serve in his rightful place as a general in hells army, and will one day pay for it. He also has a fascination with your kind. Next would be Albin; The little high imp. He, or she, my information does not specify, is a dangerous little creature. It can rip the flesh off of anything with the same mass as itself if it meets said creatures eyes. It is not what you would call good, or evil. The high imps just are what they are. I have little other information on the creature."

“Let’s see,” Medabra mused as he tapped a claw tipped fingers at his temple. “Ahh yes, Jeston. Jeston is a marvelous little creature. An angel on the brink of falling. He has some, what would your psychologists call it, daddy issues?” A quiet throaty chuckle emerged from the shadow demon. “We have been keeping tabs on that one for a while now. He is knowledgeable in his own ways, a skilled warrior as angels go. At one time he was one of the most powerful angels of the lower ranks, but he lost it all when he started throwing temper tantrums.”

“Finally we have Amancio. He appeared after we left the room. I had my shadows watching just in case. Amancio is, well, dedicated. He doesn’t talk much, and doesn’t do much that I have been able to see; besides follow his orders that is. All I can really tell you is that he is dangerous enough to warrant watching. “Mendabra began to wander the room examining the shadows that lay in it. He reached down and caressed one that was lying beside a box on the floor. “As for your second question there are a multitude of answers. I myself could contain a naga without killing the beast. Though it might not be quite so useful to you after I am done with it, but it would be alive.” The shadow that Mendabra caressed was suddenly darkened into a deeper shade of black before resuming its natural tint.

“If you would like to achieve it yourself then you have various measures that you could have set up before hand to subdue the creature. Though if you want something just at the spur of the moment then there are two options that I would suggest. Either a feat of thaumaturgy to subdue the creature, or, you could always siphon off a bit of the creatures own life energy to weaken it and reinforce your own spell. The thaumaturgy is effective, but only if you have the concentration to effect two spells at once. Siphoning the energy is quick and would instantly reinforce your spells. It is the most efficient option in my professional opinion. “The demons eyes flashed slightly as it turned around and stared at Eliza with its head slightly tilted.

Alexander tried to take everything in. He stood, silently looking out towards the woods. He realized he'd lost his composure when he first got out there and hoped to fix that. "Look at it this way. Working with me won't be all that different from a guardian angel job, now will it? And besides, maybe you will have time to think about what you've done as they wanted." He clicked his tongue, still looking into the distance, his eyes squinting with thought. "I do have to bind you to something, don't I? Jeston, wasn't it? I'm a fan of whittling. If I were to bind you to a piece of wood and then whittle it, would that work? Would there be any problem with that?" He listened for the answer, but his mind was already on other things.

"You were once a fighter. You fought once and despite your recent lifestyle and how they've taken some of your power away, you still have that experience. That is much more difficult to lose. So, we're stuck together. Whatever we're going to go through, we'll have to go through it together. So teach me." He turned and looked at Jeston. "I have no illusion that I'll be able to best any man in a day of training, but I'm willing to work at it if you are." He walked up to Jeston and looked him up and down, sneering. "You'll have to put in as much work as I from the looks of things. The way you hold yourself, the inconsistency with which you act right now, I've but just met you and fear you may have lost what knack you once had, but it must be there somewhere. From what I've heard, that's something that sticks with you all your life. At least with humans. I don't know. Your kind did come first. Maybe didn't have all the mistakes worked out of you yet."

Meeting Jeston's eye with resolve, he didn't know what exactly to do. He knew this was not the kind of person he'd wanted to be paired with. He didn't even know if he'd wanted to be paired at all. When he took the test, the only thing he had any talent at was said to be summoning, or so he was told. He really would have rather had some more choice. But this was it. This was all he had. A man who liked to be alone forever with a companion until one of them died. And with who he was paired with, he figured if either went it would be him, not Jeston. But he wanted to make the best of it. He wanted to learn what he could from him. He wanted to improve himself with the tools he'd been given. "Teach me to fight; from there we'll see what happens. But for the time being, I suggest you stay sober and clean yourself up a bit. I can't imagine being stuck in a small space like the binding we're supposed to do with you; I have no idea what that's like. But I really hope it's uncomfortable because if you do stray from my rules, if you do cross me, I'll be like a parent to their toddler. 'Go to your room and don't come out until I call you.' But maybe I'll ask the instructors. If it's nice, I'll think of something else."

It was worse than she ever could have possibly imagined. The fae that appeared in the circle was gigantic and hideous, nothing like she was expecting her familiar’s appearance to be. Both her parents and brother had angels, why didn’t she as well? Kalika pressed both hands to her cheeks in an attempt to calm the racing thoughts in her mind. Though she only succeeded in leaving a bloody handprint across the left side of her face. Slowly her other senses returned and she became aware of a conversation happening between her familiar and River.

A powerful flare of jealousy ignited within Kalika and by the way the pair talked it was apparent that this wasn’t their first meeting. Steaming silently, she allowed herself to be lead away from the circle by Benen when a jock type of student entered the room. Kalika ignored the newcomer and turned her full attention to her familiar.

Now that she was thinking more clearly, Kiera took full accounting of the demon standing before her. He was still extremely hideous, but she began to notice other qualities that could prove to be useful. Benen was easily the tallest familiar that had been summoned so far, not to mention his wickedly sharp claws and horns. Kalika couldn’t help feeling slightly smug about that fact and he apparently was a high ranking warrior as well.

Taking a step closer, Kalika began to warm up to the idea of being tethered to Benen, though she had many questions for him. A reality that stung her pride, but she knew would be necessary if she ever wanted to become a great summoner. The cut on her hand had clotted, allowing her to cross her arms without ruining her clothes.

“My name is Kalika Becker. I can’t believe that the universe decided to pair me up with you; it apparently has a cruel sense of humor. My family tree is filled with summoners, but they decided to keep me ignorant of the art. All that heir and the spare sort of thing. Anyway, what I’m saying is we better start with the simple stuff.”

Kalika could tell it was the warm and comfortable feeling that the demon had brought with him that was causing her mood to improve slightly. She felt less angry, which was confusing to say the least and she wasn’t sure how to react to the sudden change.

“My first question is do you have to obey me absolutely? Can you refuse an order or try to find a loophole in the command? Are you able to read my thoughts? Why are so agreeable about being tethered to a puny human?” Kalika smiled a bit, in an attempt to be semi-friendly to the fearsome creature.

Jeston pouted for a second and let out an exasperated sight before responding, “Yeah, it should.” The angel’s lips thinned as he stood and listened to the human go on without stopping. After his summoner finished Jeston let out a low growl. “You arrogant little prick. You dare to insult me and my kind. You ask me to train you and then insult and threaten me,” he shouted his voice rising to a shout. The angel paused and took a deep breath which he held for a few long seconds.

Releasing the breath in a long sigh Jeston snorted out a laugh. “Fine, I’ll teach you. Hell I don’t seem to have much of a choice, and I wouldn’t wanna teach someone without some balls anyways. Besides I was getting a bit outta shape anyways. Kicking your scrawny ass up and down a training field seems like a decent enough work out,” The angel said with a sneer.
“You said you like carving or something right? Well then whittle yourself out a sword. Doesn’t matter what type or size, just whatever you feel most comfortable with. After that we’ll practice. When I think your good enough for the real deal I’ll let you try it out, and I don’t give a damn what you stick me in. You don’t get to play with the real toys until you prove yourself. You would probably kill yourself otherwise.” Jeston paused at that comment as a wistful look crossed his face. “Then again maybe we should just start out with the real weapons,” He said with a predatory grin.

Suddenly the angel grabbed his head and ground his teeth. “Fine, fine. I won’t do it,” He shouted to the heavens as he covered his ears. After a few seconds had passed the angel eased his hands away from his ears. A bit of blood was trickling out of one and he grunted at the sight of it on his hands. “ Could turn the freaking volume down a bit,” he said wiping the bloody mess onto his jeans as he stood up again. “Apparently were going to stick with training weapons for now.”

Benen

Benen calmly watched Kalika as he felt her flurry of emotions. Obviously she was unhappy being tethered to him, which wasn’t surprising but it was still disappointing. After sizing him up she finally broke the silence by taking a step forward and introducing herself. The introduction was tainted by insult but Benen didn’t mind. Usually his summoner had long ago banished him so this was a stride forward in his book. He merely chuckled deeply. ”It’s a pleasure to meet you too Ms. Becker. I believe we’ll make a fine team and I promise to teach you I’ll I know and more.”

He could only hope that Kalika was receptive of the comforting waves he was sending her way, otherwise getting to know one another was going to be a long and torturous process. Thankfully the next time she spoke it wasn’t with as much malice in her voice. However she did ask a long string of questions. He raised an eyeridge in amusement. “My, curious are we? Well, to address your first query the answer is no; I don’t have to obey you absolutely. If I don’t agree with a command then I can refuse it. Remember, I’m a partner, not a slave. However, you don’t have to worry about me rebelling against you because I can refuse commands. We’re connected, intertwined to our very core if you will so I can’t and wouldn’t harm you directly because that would be like harming myself.”

Benen shifted his weight and craned his neck down a bit to get a better look at Kalika. ”Now secondly I can’t read your thoughts but I can read your emotions just as you can read mine. For example if we’re in separate rooms but you’re upset then I’ll be aware of it or vice versa. Right now you should be feeling a, comforting, warm emotion right now. Something that calms you; we also can feel each other’s pain.” His eyes drifted down to her hand. He reached out and took her injured hand delicately with his large claws then turned it over to look at her palm. ”And I’m agreeable to being tethered to a human because I’m quite fascinated with your kind. You’re much more capable then any fae give you credit for. Certainly not puny at all; now why don’t you show me to your room so I can tend to your cut.” He gave her wrist a gentle, reassuring squeeze before letting go and looking in her eyes. ”Shall we?
