Introduction
Lorn is crumbling. A world forever destined to destroy itself, yet undoubtedly perseveres through it all. Despite the might of the world, something is eating away at it, a force that no one could have predicted. Oluin, The Old God of Chaos, has returned to the lands, though few know of this. It has been a quiet thing, like a disease slowly making its way to the heart. Those who know pray for their salvation, they pray to Gods to deliver them safety. They believe their prayers have fallen on deaf ears, and as such have abandoned hope. All the while, the world goes about its daily lives, unaware of what is lurking beyond the veil. The Forces Of The Old have invaded and taken the city of Muris, all in the nation of Heloi being told that it is an invasion from a Southern Continent. It is hard not to ask questions, especially when the heads of the leaders and others are on the top of its high stone wall, for all to see. Those who know in Heloi are finding it difficult to keep the secret of Oluin. Many leaders believe they should just tell the people, others that they should create a combined offense to take the city back, and there are those who think all is lost. But, how would we have a story if that was the case?
Four individuals with destinies interwoven since birth are heading toward fate unknowingly. Not knowing why they are chosen, that they are even chosen, and that the fate of the world hangs in the balance is quite a lot of things to not know. These arenβt the heroic knight on his noble steed. They are those who have seen the ugly of the world, and it has changed them in someway or another. Apart from that, nothing makes them special. No secret power that smites evil, no hidden ability that brings hope, nothing. For all anyone knows, they were simply chosen because they had nothing to lose. Give in to the Chaos, or help restore order and peace.
Hi, a little GM note here: This is the first in a series of roleplays I hope to do, all set in Lorn. I notice most roleplays either die off because people lose interest, or one person stops posting and it stops the roleplay entirely. So, beyond the four βchosenβ there will only be five or six spots open.
The Four
The First: The supposed Leader of the four and the warrior of Akali, the God of Judgement and leader of the Gods. The First has forced its way into the darkest of places, carrying an aura that would make anyone believe there was still hope. However, it has sacrificed a lot to achieve this.
The Withered: Chosen by the God of Dreams, Jaski. The Withered has lasted through the harshest trials someone can endure. It has gone into the darkness and emerged, taking everything thrown at it full force.
The Lost: Chosen by the Goddess of Wisdom, Lorekilee. The Lost has seen what happens when someone loses themselves. It has experienced the sacrifice and pain of being misguided and hunted, always unable to find its way to peace.
The Fallen: Chosen by the Goddess of Dawn, Yukilee. The Fallen has once stood upon the highest peak, being able to look down on others with prideful eyes. It has fallen from this into its current state. Once wealthy, prideful and passionate, it is now wandering for its chance to rise again.
Heloi-
Glossary
Old God: In the early creation of the world, the Old Gods existed and were supposedly worshiped by the Stone Elves. There are 16 original Old Gods. They inhabited this realm before the rise of the Gods. Those who survived made their way past the Fero.
The Six Gods: The Six Gods exist in a realm beyond even the Fero, having βliberatedβ Lorn before the existence of man. There is a chapel of at least one of the Gods in every city.
Fero: The Fero was the land of the Old Gods. Mages are able to pass into the Fero through magic, but all they see when they get there is a dark plane. Since being abandoned by the Old Gods, the Fero has lost its light.
Lorn: Lorn is the name of the world our story takes place. Heloi is on the continent of Lerial, and is its southern most nation. There have been six eras in Lornβs history. They are in order, The Free Era, The Mythic Era, The Dawn Era, The Dragon Era and The New Era (Which will likely be renamed when the Era ends). The world of Lorn is still heavily based on magic and agriculture.
Magic in Lorn: Magic is centered on four schools, Alchemy, Conjuration, Restoration and Destruction. Mysticism is a known school, but is not taught at the university in the city of Visserine (North, cut off of map). There are several forbidden schools that are illegal throughout the continent, including Necromancy and Old Magic.
Alchemy: School of magic focused on altering the material, mass, composition, weight, smell and appearance of objects into that of something else. Alchemy is the most advanced form of science on Lorn as it is usually performed through experiments and understanding, rather than incantations, etc.
Conjuration: Considered by many to be a gray area, Conjuration is the school of magic that focuses on the act of bringing creatures from other planes of existence into this world. The Caster must have summoned the creature before, otherwise it will be random. The Caster can summon said random being again after it has summoned it before. Once summoned the creature stays on this plane until the Caster sends them back, or it becomes gravely injured and must retreat itself.
Restoration: School of Magic that involves the magical healing or augmentation of living tissue. It is the easiest school to learn.
Destruction: The school that provides many means of inflicting damage on enemies. Destruction spells use the elements and pure magic to damage health; an enemy's fatigue and magic can also be reduced either permanently or temporarily. Weaknesses can even be inflicted on enemies, amplifying the effects of subsequent spells.
Necromancy: Outlawed throughout Lerial and punishable by death is the school of Necromancy. Necromancy is the art of communicating with the dead to predict the future, study and the act of raising the dead.
Old Magic: Any archive of Old Magic is kept at the University, and theft of said archives is an act of treason. Old Magic was wielded by the Stone Elves and consisted primarily of spatial manipulation.
Stone Elves: While their actual appearance is unknown, remains of the Stone Elves are everywhere in Lorn. Based on ruins and writings, it is believed they existed over ten thousand years ago.
The Forces of the Old: Soldiers of Oluin. Most are nothing but husks, killing and moving without a mind of their own. The highest ranking Soldiers are able to plan and speak, though it is in a language of their own.
(Will add to if needed, or if people are curious. There will be a character page giving examples of the appearances of The Forces of Old among others. The places tab will have all available travel locations and a brief description of the city/area and its history)
Races- (ALS= Average Life Span. HR= Height Range)
Imperials: Lornβs version of humans. While they might lack certain advantages other races have, they also lack the disadvantages. Throughout the years they have been proven to be shrewd politicians and quick to think on their feet. They are the dominant race of New Era Lerial.
ALS= 80 years
HR= 5β0β to 7β0β
Forest Elves: Elves native to the west most region. They tend to have tan skin and dark eye color. They are known to have the best archers in Lerial. In the center of the forest is their only city of Covontiz. Covontiz is only accessible to those who already know where it is. Forest Elves are rare in Heloi, mainly due to its
distance and the fact most Forrest Elves keep to the Forest. If they venture out it is usually for a brief travel, diplomatic requirements, or they have chosen to live outside.
ALS= 180 Years
HR= 5β3β to 6β0β
Snow Elves: Elves with fair skin and light colored eyes. Hailing from the mountains northeast of Visserine, the Great Elven City. They specializes in close range combat, some cases being able to swing a maul with one hand. To see one outside of the mountains is rare.
ALS= 120 years
HR= 5β8β to 6β6β
Scry Elves: Most commonly known as city elves, they were the dominant race until the Imperial Rebellion 900 years ago, marking the end of the Dawn Era. They are the most ancient of the races and have the greatest affinity for magic. While no longer the dominant race they tend to hold high positions in politics and society.
ALS: 240 years
HR= 5β6β to 6β2β
Ash Elves: Legend says the Ash Elves were once a tribe of Scry Elves that were cursed after a great war, that took the burning ash from the battle and scarred their skin. Whether or not this actually happened is unknown. Regardless, they have the smallest population of all the races, numbering less than a hundred thousand. They prove to be capable assassins and spies due to having the highest immunity to magic and the most naturally athletic of all races.
ALS= 100 years
HR= 5β6β to 6β2β
Dragons: The Dragon Era only lasted four hundred years and marked the end of the Dragons 400 years ago. Dragons are said to have two forms, the known form and a humanoid form. In their humanoid form the color of their skin varies, likely matching the scales in their dragon form. The last dragon was seen over 300 years ago, so not much is known beyond this. Their original language is draconic.

HR= Unknown
Rules-
1. No God-modding. This includes auto hits, moving another persons character, just knowing things without information to back it up, and no just stating your character is some all-powerful badass that can kill anyone with a look. If you break this rule, there will be no warnings. Your character will die, regardless of the situation it is in.
2. Post at least once every two to three days, but every other day is preferable. If you do not post in a week, I will shoot you a pm. If you do not post a day after that, your character will die.
3. Write as much as you feel like writing in a post, but make it at least 350 words. Type βLoreβ somewhere in your character sheet so I know you read the rules.
4. I have viewed quite a few roleplays on this site in order to get a sense of where most people are at as far as the quality of their posts. So basically, donβt even bother making a character if you know you arenβt up to it. Otherwise I might just reject you are the basis of your previous roleplay ventures.
5. Romance is allowed, but follow site rules regarding that.
6. If you and another roleplay wish to have a fight, but allow auto hits to give it a more fluid feeling, pm me about it first so I know. If you read everything do not type lore in your sheet, but mythic instead.

Outside Muris: Three Days Ago
General Halek gazed at the city of Muris. The afternoon sky he had grown accustomed to seeing all his life was black, a dark cloud hanging over the area. The feeling of the terrified men behind him weighed his back down, the aura of abandonment from the city made his knees shake. Today, a battle unknown to most will take place. Today, a thousand Heloian soldiers will fight against a force unlike anything they have ever encountered. Yoru shook his head and drew his blade, turning his horse to the men standing behind him. For three days they camped outside that city. For three days they heard things no living man should hear. The city was gone, lost forever. The place had been tainted by a darkness that would crush most with its whisper. The fear was on their face. The sound of the gates of Muris, slowly opening, sent a shot up Yoru's spine. While the debates raged in Westport, Yoru knew that war was upon them and they had no choice but to act. He turned back toward Muris, his eyes growing wide at the sight of his once unknown adversaries. He had never seen a sight more terrifying. The vibrations from the Forces of Old beating on the ground almost felt audible. He raised his blade, the Horn of Heloi echoing throughout the field. Yoru did not blink as his horse road forward. He could not hear the sound of the horn, the hooves of the horse running, the sounds of the men following him, to him the world was silent in this moment. He was certain that he was riding toward his death.
Royal Palace, Westport: One Hour Later
King Turentius followed his guards through the passage way. Small spots of light from the cracks of the worn, old passage provided all the light they needed to keep moving. "Are you sure you must leave, Sire? The messenger only said your children were attacked," said the leading guard, looking back at the old King as he did so. "No, their dead. I know it," said the King with a heartbroken tone in his voice. The guard turned back and kept moving forward. The passageway eventually opened to an old sewer that had been there even before the founding of Heloi as a nation. The palace was built on top of it, the sewers passageways being one of the best kept secrets in the kingdom. It was used by Gerard, the Hero of the Rebellion to smuggle and hide Imperials, markings of those who traveled through it are prevalent on almost every wall still to this day. It was the perfect escape from whatever the King was running from. The guards opened a sewer door to a large open space, nothing but ghosts and shadows. The guards formed around the King as they moved, blades drawn and eyes searching. The sounds of shuffling feet could be heard in the darkness. "How could they be waiting for us here?!"
Outside Muris: Same time
Yoru was looking up at the sky. He reached up with his left hand, as if to grab it. Even with the dark cloud hanging above, he still felt like reaching. He covered his mouth, coughing heavily. Pulling back his hand, he stared at the blood, coming back to reality at the sight of it. He turned his head on the ground, looking at the bodies of his soldiers all around him. He heard sounds of a fire smoldering no more than twenty feet away. The bodies of the soldiers were being picked up and thrown into the flames. A dark figure blocked his vision of the sky. Its armor was dark, its eyes leaving a trail of blue light with each movement it made. "A survivor, huh?" The voice was not of the creature, but came from behind Yoru. "Take him into the city, I'll deal with him later." The creature made a low, hissing noise. It seemed to be speaking, but Yoru couldn't even identify it as speech. "No, for all we know he could be one of them. The Gods are leading them here in someway or another." The creature simply nodded and raised its blade, hitting Yoru with the end of the hilt.
Royal Palace, Westport
"You Imperials are so predictable. We've known about this passage from the beginning. I don't know why you continue to fight. Your King has accepted the inevitable as should you." The voice seemed to come from every corner. It had a feminine tone to it, but it was impossible to track the movements of the person. "Your children are dead. Your soldiers will be dead, assuming they have not met their end yet. Your filthy, miserable existences are burning out." Six rings were tossed out, all bearing the Royal Seal, all covered in blood. "For such an old and respected line, the Turentius's did not put up much of a fight." The guards kept moving toward the door across the room, watching all directions. After the rings were thrown out there was a silence, the voice gone. As one guard reached for the door, it ignited in flames, as did him. In the confusion the guards separated for only a moment, but that was more than enough time. They were picked off quickly, one by an ice shard through the chest, one electrocuted, one crushed by the ground under his very feet, and the last was killed by his own hand. The voice emerged out of the darkness, a hood hiding its face. "Where are my manners. My name is Nuin, Your Grace." She removed the hood, her white retinas almost glowing. "Any final words, Sire?" The King took a heavy breath and looked upon his guards with sorrowful eyes. "You only threw six rings." Nuin looked at him confused, her eyes widening as she quickly realized the truth. "So, that's how it is. It doesn't matter. The death of them was only meant to hurt you, nothing more." Nuin removed a dagger from her sleeve, holding it up to the old Kings throat. "Sorry, but we had to destroy that gift you have. Reginal Turentius, Last King of Heloi, blessed by Jaski with the gift of sight beyond sight, you are the first of many who will fall in Chaos's name." With that, Nuin brought the dagger across Turentius's neck. Nuin was already gone before he hit the ground.
Plaza District, Westport: Three days later. Present Time
The caravan walked through the street. the rain was heavy, the people lining the walkways were cold and wet. However, they could not help but see their King off. His grip was on a ceremonial sword, rains drops running down his cold cheeks. Heloi was without its King or his descendants. No one knew of the murderers. The lost battle at Muris also signified a dark time in Heloi. With their King dead and a large portion of their military defeated, the people of Heloi weren't just mourning their King, but also themselves. With Muris in the hands on an enemy unknown to the common man, it seemed as though the nation would surely fall in the coming weeks. Many were making their way to the border, though quite a bit chose to stay in hopes of braving the storm ahead.
Aralorn looked at his father's caravan from an alley. He was not crying, as he had only until now felt contempt for the man. Heloi needed a king, but the one who most knew as Aralorn Arelius wasn't it. Aralorn Turentius died many years ago in his mind. He walked back down the ffar side of the alley, emerging onto the parallel street. Was he to seek vengeance? Was he to take up the throne? Or was he to return to Caprile, and eventually Visserine, without giving any of it another thought. To him, the final choice was the only one he felt he could do.

"The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears," she murmured to herself, heaving a sigh as the stallion carefully picked it's way down the hill. She was on the outskirts of the city of Olba, having been travelling for days. She pulled her black hood closer to her head, covering her light hair and silver eyes, as well as her skin, which gave off a telltale light glow as if with the sheen of magic. It would be an abnormality here, she assumed, with the population mainly Imperials- the damned humans. She shook her head to herself, keen eyes searching for a decent place to eat, keeping a wary eye out for trouble of any kind.

The elf wandered, wondering where she wanted to hole up for the night, and as she did so she absentmindedly pulled out a knife she had nicked several weeks back from a guard. Keylara started fiddling with the knife, running calloused fingers over blade and hilt as she walked along. Sipani, though a somewhat sleepy and seemingly dormant town, had nearly killed Keylara many more times than she cared to count. Though she had been incarcerated, shot, poisoned, stabbed several times, and nearly blown to bits at least once by a passing magician, Keylara had trouble denying that this place was a haven to her, and she was glad to be able to remain in her country with little fear of the gallows.
A crack of thunder sounded, causing Keylara to jump a little and cut her hand with the blade she held. The elf swore, stopping and inspecting the cut she had inflicted. Red started to rise from the wound, and as Keylara chastised herself for never picking up healing magic, she put her wounded hand up to her mouth. When she was satisfied that she would bleed no more, Keylara started walking again, sheathing the knife and making sure to keep herself under the eaves of the buildings she walked past.
Something about the wind didn't feel right, something that made Keylara's stomach drop into her feet and turn to lead. She fought off the paralyzing fear as hard as she could: she had to--staying outside was becoming dangerous. Keylara didn't know quite how she knew, but change was coming. Change that meant staying inside to stay safe, one that meant to fear the night and sea and air. A change for the worse.

Okay, that was a little abrupt. Sorry I can't PM you don't know why. :( So I'll tell you here I can't post in this RP anymore. I'm sorry. It's because I'm trying to minimize my characters- I have well over forty [FORTY!] and I can't get to posting every day- even every week has become a difficulty. So with great sorrow I'll say I have to abandon my beloved Murray; the RP isn't demanding my character and won't miss 'er much; and it's gotten off to a good start- so good luck. o.o

Well, it will be a while before the roleplay goes to Muris. We won't just all show up on its doorstep after a few days. It will be (hopefully) multiple arcs. This allows all the players to get involved. Whether it be the cliche work, or someone just picking up a sword to save their own life. They took over Muris, but their not going to stop there, nor stay there for long.

Re: [OOC] Tales of Lorn: Heloi
I'm interested in playing as a dragon who is 'the lost' since it feels like a fitting role, I'm a little confused about the current state of affairs in the land though. So basically the city of Muris has been taken by force and they serve this chaos god? I'm unsure how the players come into things. I'm thinking of a character who's pain and situation is on par with something mythic. (or absurdly unbelievable)
