Cherish's father Dun married her mother Heleth at young age like many in District 12. He of course took a job in the mines like most men in the district it being the easiest way to care for a family. Not long after marrying Heleth became pregnant with Cherish's older brother Brady, this made it very hard for them, and her father had to work even more hours in the mine. Another boy Delvin was born less then a year later. And soon after that their last child and only girl Cherish was born.
It has been hard for the family large by some standards, but like so many that live impoverished in District 12. A year ago Brady became too old to be a tribute, but Cherish and Delvin still have to participate. Cherish does not like the Hunger Games, and finds it cruel and disgusting. She wonders why so many are so fascinated by it. She fears being chosen but feels that over the past six years her brothers have not been chosen. Perhaps the odds are in her favor that her name will not be pulled form the bowl.
