Droll Jani has always had a sense of humor along with a quick tongue. In Ketterdam, it often got him out of trouble or into it, though mainly into it. Jani tries to see the humor in the world, if all he sees is death and prejudice he will look at a small point anything to laugh at. It's how hes managed to keep sane in a world that hates him. Others may perceive this as slightly sociopathic, as he will often take it too far joking about someones death. THough he my not express sadness he experiences it, he simply substitutes it for often dry and dark humor.

A Judas Among Jani's weak points he is not loyal, to anyone other than himself that is. No one had his back in Ketterdam those eighteen years, he's returning the favor. He is a good friend and ally until he sees that your usefulness if over or that something bad is going to happen so he should leave. Several times he has done this, saving his own life, getting others killed.

Idealistic Jani has always hoped to see the good in people, he is hopeful for a world where Grisha may live in peace. King Nikolai seems to have accepted the Grisha of Ravka. Though even Jani knows that this can't last long. The neighboring countries frown upon this treatment of the sub-human Grisha and would never allow this to last. Jani is hopeful that in some way he can make a change. He's just one person but he's strong.

Ifaito Ak was born a prince. A prince that is of one of many Zemeni ruling houses. Ifaito was brought up as the second son of the Ak household. The Ak dynasty is a relatively new house. Ifaito's grandfather brought the house to prominence through agriculture. The Ak's lands started as ten acres of farm land though in just twenty years the founder of the dynasty had expanded that to three hundred acres of prosperous farmland. A village consisting of serfs and farmhands formed around the land. Ak ruling over them as a pseudo lord. By the time Ifaito was born his family was quite wealthy and considered as a real Dynasty. This made Ifaito grow spoiled, expecting the world to bow to him. Though their wealth didn't come without work, until he died Ifaito's grandfather would have his grandsons and sons working the fields as well. This changed when he died and Ifaito's father inherited the house. He was a man ruled by greed he decided that the people living on his land were ungrateful and needed to be worked harder. His own family stopped contributing, which added to the stress of the tenants. Many grumblings were heard, many of Ifaito's friends stopped talking to him and the village was at unease for a few years. When Ifaito was thirty his father passed away leaving his older brother in charge. Ifaito was finally able to contribute as his brother's most trusted. After a long harvest season Ifaito found himself quite wealthy he bid his family goodbye and took vacation cross the true sea. He found himself in Ravka this was after the conflict of the shadowfold had been resolved. He toured the nation of Ravka and was considering including Shu Han after four months in Ravka. Though in his third month Ifaito found a wandering caravan of Suli. Here he met Ovesh, a beautiful brown-skinned Suli girl. Ifaito remembers hearing about them from Kerch merchants that he would trade with. They called them Lynx, said they were valuable in the slave trade. Though Ifaito didn't have slavery in mind for this girl. He requested that he might stay with the caravan for a while, move with them. He claimed that it might be dangerous for him to travel alone in this region. With that in mind he payed them for their kindness and went with them. Every night it was the same, He would go to Ovesh, tell her he loved her and ask her to marry him. Every time Ovesh would shake her head and call him "fool". Every time this is what happened at first Ovesh's parents and members of the tribe were concerned. Though it quickly became evident that he was harmless. Ifaito sought to impress her, he attempted to learn the way of the acrobat. Though he would just fall and hurt himself, Ovesh would go to him, help him wrap his sprain or mend his cut. This is how he found out that she was a Grisha. She was a healer, she would help him call him a fool and then leave. At times he would intentionally hurt himself to see her. Once he broke a leg. she went to him, tears streaming down her face. She screamed at him, "Fool, You're a fool!" She did not heal him that day. Later she explained tht it was his own fault, she didn't heal it to show him a lesson. He never did that again though he never stopped asking her to marry him. She never said yes though she stopped saying no. One day she took his hand and made him stand up. She hugged him whispering, "Yes you fool." Ifaito had been away from home for almost a year but it was worth it to him. He might be running out of money but he has a wife and a new born daughter. There is nothing else in this world that he needs. Enjani they named her, little fool. Growing up many called her Jani, which stuck with her, it meant fool in Suli.

Two years had passed of Jani living in the Suli caravan. Ovesh could tell that she was Grisha and told Ifaito as much. This concerned both parents as they were well aware of the prejudice towards those with these abilities. Once when the Caravan neared a city for supplies was when it happened. Shu loyalists attacked the camp taking anyone who they thought was Grisha captive. Ifaito and the others launched a rescue mission which saved both Ovesh and Jani from being executed. This is when they made the decision. Ifaito would take Jani back to Novyi Zem. With little money left Ifaito would take a ship to Kerch and then one to Novyi Zem once he had enough funds. They decided going for the land bridge would be to risky since they would be deep in Shu Han. A month later they embarked from Os Kervo to Ketterdam the trip was rough and the child had a hard time making it. The were only allowed under-deck because of how low they payed. The man and his girl soon arrived in Ketterdam. They found it a wet and rank place. where crime seemed to run rampant. Times growing in Ketterdam were rough. Though in the beginning there was hope that they would get out in a year's time. That is until Ifaito was swindled in the hopes of making some quick cash. This crushed him, he felt that he failed his baby and his wife. He sunk into depression, He couldn't think straight all he did was work and drink eventually he was fired and there wasnt a tavern in the damn city that he didn't have a massive debt in. Meanwhile Jani grew. She was twelve when her father sold her to the menagerie. As a Suli Zemeni mix she did fetch a pretty coin though she wasn't a full blooded Lynx so she wasn't worth nearly as much. Jani never felt right as a woman, she rather be in a tavern gambling and drinking than in perfumed parlors. She knew that she wasn't meant to be a woman, this gender dysphoria grew even more when she was forced into prostitution. Her stay at the menagerie lasted until she was eighteen. This is when she began seeing the tailor against her owner's wishes. Perhaps they would let Jani go if he became masculine, though this was just a dream. He was let go from the Menagerie where they sold him to a wealthy Merchant. He worked as a fabrikator in awful conditions. His skills didn't improve much they just didn't get rusty. Jani rarely spoke to his father, avoiding him as best he could. On the side he would be commissioned by gangs to make objects for them. Sometimes weapons, keys, fakes. Normal criminal things.

In the last year Jani had heard many rumblings about Ravka and King Nikolai. It sounded too sweet to be true honestly. A place where he could be free from prejudice. Where being Grisha was okay. He remembers his father telling him he was born in Ravka. The thought interests him. Joining the army helping with his abilities. He could make the world a better place. This is when he made his move, he didn't show up for work that day. He headed for the land bridge he knew that he had a window of time before the tidemakers would make him unable to access the bridge. Before dawn he made his way across. It was a long trek that at times he ddn't even think he'd survive especially in Shu Han. On multiple occasions he was almost caught. After a year's Journey he found himself in the capital of Os Alta. Three months have gone by since he joined the Ravkan army as a fabrikator. He is making a decent living and has a roof over his head that is all he could have asked for and more.
