Description
Lysandra 'Ly' Bartlett, age 17, female. Ly's a little shorter than the average girl, standing at 160cm or 5'3''. Her shoulderlength hair which is naturally hazel-coloured is usually kept up in a rather slipshod pigtail, obviously done by Ly herself. She usually dresses more for comfort than for appearance, choosing to wear track pants under her skirt just because they feel so good. Ly's as blind as a bat without her glasses, having a myopic degree of maybe eight hundred. Her striking brown eyes seem as if they have deep stories to tell, but they're always hidden behind glassy lenses. Wherever Ly goes, she'll bring with her her sling-bag which she fondly calls 'Anna', and her iPod classic which is home to her huge music library. Very sadly though, those two items have since been washed away in the waves when Ly and her friends got dragged away. Of course, she misses them but she'll survive.
Personality
Lysandra (lie-san-drah) or Ly (lie), as her best friends affectionately christen her, is the brain of the group.
Besides her rather thick glasses, there's actually nothing much that'll reveal this to you at first impression. Ly's normally a spacey girl who has an air of sleepiness or maybe dreaminess around her. She appears to be thinking about something only she can see most of the time, thus causing her to be unresponsive unless something bigger happens. Ly also seems never to have had enough sleep, counting the number of times she yawns each day and her amazing talent of falling asleep just about anywhere. Due to her asthma, Ly isn't athletic at all and can't run as much as most people can (she doesn't like to anyway). Ly isn't particularly clumsy with her glasses on, though she does have some silly moments. Without them, however, she's nearly helpless. Ly doesn't talk particularly much, but she's not awfully quiet either. She's the sort who'll casually approach you even if you're a stranger, but she's also the type you can easily lose mid-conversation because her mind wanders off to something else. Call it laid-back or just oblivious, Ly's not particularly the kind who'll get depressed over trivialities like what people think of her - and though she doesn't look like it, little things like getting candy do make her surprisingly happy. Fortunately or unfortunately, Ly's led a pretty normal and simple life until now, so it's uncertain whether she'll break easily under pressure.
When problems crop up, though, Ly's brain proves its prowess. Though more interested in literature and the arts, Ly's able to calculate things extremely well and comes up with surprisingly brilliant albeit unconventional ideas at the best of times. Not being particularly hardworking, Ly was still one of the best students in the school which tended to annoy others who worked harder than her - thankfully, her friends understand and accept her for who she is, and for that she is immensely grateful.
Though she doesn't openly show it, Ly cherishes her friends and family more than anything else in the world and she'll silently shoulder burdens with no signs of pain if she could help lessen those of her dearest ones. She doesn't like them finding out what she's done though, because she's really uncomfortable with being in the spotlight and receiving praise or thanks.
History
Lysandra Bartlett is the adopted child of Harriet and Brandon Bartlett who have a biological daughter, Lyric Bartlett. Lyric is Ly's older sister by five years, and they both have 'Ly' as their nicknames except it's 'lee' for Lyric and 'lie' for Lysandra. Being more of a carefree child, Ly never really resented the fact that she was adopted because frankly, her family made her feel doubly special instead of left out. Ever since she was a child, Ly got the last cookie in the cookie jar, the biggest slice of pizza, the nicer bed next to the wall in the bedroom she shared with Lyric. Being a sensible kid and a whole five years older than Ly who was adopted at age three, Lyric let her younger sister receive this special treatment without any spiteful feelings since she didn't want her to feel left out. Even until today, Ly remembers how her sister and parents did all they could to show her she was loved, and they are three of Ly's most precious people in the world. Now that she and her friends are stuck in this strange place, Ly's immensely worried about how her family will react to her disappearance - she misses them a lot and prays they're safe.
Sometimes, though, Ly does get just a little depressed at the thought that her real parents abandoned her, but she always realises in the end that to her, the family she has is more important than any unknown blood relations.
