Anna have been through a lot in her life already. She had to take care of herself because her family never properly looked after her.
Her dad treated her bad right from when she was a baby. It was like she was never good enough for him. He would bait her, even as a small kid he used to hit her and she starts to cry and he'd belt her twice as hard. He used to kick or hit her if she didn't do what she was told. So she learnt to go along with whatever he said, and to keep out of his way.
The worst thing was that mum never told him off for the way he treated her. She would just yell at her 'don't get him mad, it's your fault you should do what he says'. She never defended her from her dad, she acted like she deserved everything she got. She started to believe that everything was her fault.
She hated being at home. She used to stay over at friend's houses, and sometimes she would sleep out in her friend's house. The more she stayed away, the more scared she was of going back home, because she knew she would get a belting for running away. She started sleeping in her friend's house. It still was better than going home.
After a while she went to a youth support service and they got her into a refuge. Some of the workers there are cool and she felt like someone cares about her for once. They helped her get some money, and they have just helped her organise her life more. They are trying to get her into long-term accommodation. Now at least she feels like she might have a future.
