a character in “The Immortals”, as played by Mavz

Description

Name: Vanessa Knite
Age: As old as time itself.
Gender: Female
Status: Immortal
Occupation: Currently unemployed.
Appearance: Vanessa wouldn't be considered drop dead gorgeous nor would she be considered entirely hideous. She was, simply put, average. Occasionally she would put on makeup and put effort into her wardrobe and possibly be considered beautiful. Yet, these times were few and far between. She kept her brown hair dyed, simple and short. Her hair's natural curves gave it a bit more shape rather than a mop on the top of her head. Her bright blue eyes were perhaps one of her finer features, gaining her a couple interesting looks whenever she chose to go outside. She worked out every evening, keeping her body in tip top condition. After hundred of years of fighting it simply became habit and she found it was a nice way to stay relaxed. Her choice of clothing was almost always something chosen for comfort rather than appearance. Jeans, converse tennis shoes and a v-neck blouse were her usual garb. Once in a while she would bust out a nice dress or skirt, but these times (like when she did make-up) were seldom.

Personality

Likes: Most animals, nearly any type of alcohol, a good fight, classical music, history and steak.
Dislikes: Rude and inconsiderate people, people shouting, people in her way, being bested in a fight and people talking down to her.
Personality: Vanessa could be considered a very motivated and headstrong person. She doesn't like to be slowed down from achieving her goals and she's not afraid to best any obstacles in her way, human or not. She never hesitates from violence, especially if violence is inevitable. She believes that being the first one to strike gives one the upper hand. This isn't to say that she's entirely violent, no. She has a very good sense of when and when its not an appropriate time for violence. She does her best to be caring to those around her, but it isn't exactly her strong suit. She, at times, can be short and snippy with those around her especially if they have angered her. Having lost many people in her life, Vanessa isn't one to become easily attached. She does her best to avoid any sort of attachment to anyone for fear of watching them grow old and die. A lot of people have decided it best to simply leave her alone.

Equipment

Skills: Hand to hand combat, sword fighting, strong understanding of strategical tactics, has very well aim with modern guns and rifles, speaks a variety of languages, can fly older aircraft and knows her way around various different engines.
Weaknesses: She is not very good at knife fighting, she cannot harm children and has a fear of large amounts of fire.
Weapons: She nearly always carries a Beretta nine millimeter in a concealed case in the waistband of her pants.

History

Vanessa doesn't remember much of her early life, it having been so long ago. Her earliest memory was perhaps her time as Joan d'Arc where she served Charles the Seventh and brought numerous victories to France during the Hundred Years' War. It was one of her proudest times of her life. She led men who thought they were her betters and under the guidance of her Guardian she brought swift victories. It was unfortunate when she was kidnapped by the Burgundians, having been betrayed by her own men. She remembered the trial with the English pope of Beauvais and her sentencing to burn at the stake. Her Guardian Angel had helped her to escape, cutting her binds when the flames were high enough and guiding her way to safety. It took weeks to heal the burned flesh and since then Vanessa is terrified of large amounts of fire. Even a torch terrified her. After licking her wounds, Vanessa stayed primarily out of sight for a few decades. She didn't want anyone to recognize her and cry out that her being alive was a miracle. She decided to travel throughout Europe and after a couple centuries she wounded up in Russia where she served under the great rule of Catherine the Second. She worked in the Empress' stables for some time before moving elsewhere. For centuries she wandered throughout the land. Oftentimes she would disguise herself as a man and join in local fighting or wars that happened throughout the years. It made it easier to fake her own death. When England started its first colonies in America, Vanessa was on the first ship over. She helped various different settlements and at one time became friends with a nearby indian tribe. She was even in Salem when the witch trials occurred, an event in history that still infuriates her today. She tried to defend those who were sentenced to hang, telling them that the girls were making it all up. The girls turned on her and she found herself fleeing the village, not wanting to be hanged herself.

The centuries came quickly and soon she found herself in New York City, where she spent some time. She faked her death here and there, but mainly she simply moved from one side of the city to the next. She was sitting in her apartment when she saw on the news the interview with the man, his name she could not remember. All she did remember was his claim that there was an immortal living in Washington DC. Within moments she had everything packed and was on her way to DC. She couldn't believe that there was potentially another immortal and wanted to be the first to find out. She wanted to meet him, talk to him, figure out if she wasn't the only one.

So begins...

There was a spilt second when the woman was sure that not only were things wrong they were very wrong. And this was one of them. The warning bells in her head were going off more and more and for a brief moment she thought she heard the sound of a voice, she’d rather never hear again in her life. The two of them were not very close at all.

Moments like these, Étaín really wished she hadn’t stopped trying to kill herself. If it meant the annoying voice that didn’t much seem to like her; it called her a chicken all of the time, then she was happy for it. Brief images flashed across her head. Ones she got sometimes when she was asleep.

Shaking her head to clear it, she nodded to Vanessa. “Glad you see reason.” She replied lightly. Taking one last glance at the dead bodies, her gaze lingered on the one who died in front of them before nodding to herself. It would be better for everyone if they just forget about any of this.

Turning around, the woman started up the way she came down, giving directions to the other female just in case she needed them. Vanessa had already scraped herself on the way down, no need to do it on the way up as well. “I have to agree. Something about all of this is odd.” An idea started to form in her mind. “When we get to the top, let’s find a place to hide.”

It would be interesting to see if there was someone else on the top side watching them. But she couldn’t force herself to leave yet. Out of the ravine below yes, but not completely. Climbing out, she brushed herself off and glanced around. It didn’t seem like there was another person after all. At least not one that she could see. Looking around, Étaín found a place where they could see the way to the cliff and the way down to the gulley below without being seen. She grabbed Vanessa’s hand and dragged her along.

Bending down, she sat on the ground to wait. She didn’t know why, but she just couldn’t make herself leave. It was too important. Liam and Leo were going to be mad about not being feed, but they could get over it.

Étaín nodded her head. "I know." Well, except maybe dying on contact. I've seen people survivor odder things. She thought to herself as she glanced out from the shrubs to the cliff edge. "If he turned at certain angles I could see how he survived for a little bit... besides," she whispered. "we don't know when he fell." From the sounds they had heard when the two females had come running over it couldn't have been very far from the time of falling. So the fact that the man was still alive made a bit more sense.

But the red head was left wondering. How long should they wait? If they stayed too long they could be said to be involved in the double murder. That was the last thing that she knew she needed right now. She was very close to giving up on finding the so called immortal and leaving town. She had always hated the capital and stuff like this was the reason why. "How long do we wait?" She whispered afraid of being hurt by anything.

Vanessa listened to her and realized that Étaín was correct. It did in fact matter how someone fell that determined how long the person stayed alive for. Though when the other woman asked how long they should stay Vanessa didn't really know what to say. Should they stay another ten minutes or would it be better to stay a couple hours? She waited to see if her guardian would make a noise or point her in the right direction, but everything was eerily quiet in the back of her head. Her Guardian was almost always active. They had become rather close over the eternity that they had been together. The Guardian's silence uneased her, but she realized that she couldn't rely on the Guardian all the time.

"I'd give it another fifteen or so minutes...if nothing happens then it would be best to probably go back." She whispered lowly, her eyes still fixed on the cliff edge ahead.
