Even in the fall, the grass was ever greener on the side of the Periwinkle Institute in New York City.
The wind casts circles along the ground to sweep away the autumn leaves from its pristine image, the stylish silver-cased exterior standing tall and proud. The university's building gives way to an impenetrable coldness to outsiders with its tinted windows, the transparent doors serving as the only keyhole into the world within. The students that walk through these glass entrances that catch the light on the tip of its doors, either belong or feel like an imposter standing in its refracted spotlight. People huddled in groups spread over the grounds' lawns, speak in hushed tones that approachers can only catch the ending word of before they disperse, wearing polite faces as a signal to coo away the curiosity of a child. In treading the stairs and strolling the halls, one can find themselves easily lost. It is a place only befitting for people in the know.

Exiting their rooms, residents pass through with the ghost of light, brisk footsteps in an otherwise untouched hallway. Passing by the open entryway to the living room, leaving behind the show books on the coffee table with the same page left open, having collected a fine layer of dust. The cold of the banister sends a shiver on bare fingertips as they spiral down the stairwell.

Continuing down the tunnel, a flash of light strikes the left side of the face from where the sun shines through the dining room window. Empty chairs sat around a clear table in a meeting of absence.

Another flash of light further down, where the white of the cabinets and fridge are uniformed to the same shade and seem to blend into the interior walls. Reaching the end of the corridor and returning to the shade, the routine elevator beeping that occurs at the same intervals each day is fulfilled. Walking inside and descending into the new day ahead.
