The Locao Incident

The Locao Incident

0 INK

Super Hero roleplay.

Looking for 6-7 players, possibly more, capable of meeting once or twice a week to role play. I intend to run this like a tabletop in free form, creating a progressive story together with the players that we can all enjoy.

683 readers have visited The Locao Incident since Nitewatchman created it.

Introduction

Story

Our story began one summer night, under the light of the stars and Senoa's twin moons, Pholos and Nessos. Just like any other night in Alako, the streets were filled with late-shift workers and young people returning home from the night's fun, tired and unaware that their lives were about to change forever. Suddenly, in the sky, a shooting star appeared, whipping through the night as a bright streak of light...but something was wrong. The star was not burning out; it was getting bigger, as if drawing near! Just after passing over the city, the flaming Meteoroid exploded in a bright flash of white light, shattering into small chunks of debris and bathing everything on the ground in the radiance of its explosion. The next day, the news reports were full of speculation and the writings of confused journalists. The military sent in troops to investigate, cordoning off the landing zones of the larger pieces of Meteoric debris. There was panic in the streets, but after a week or so, nothing had happened, so the populace calmed down.

Now, a month later, there is talk of men with super-human abilities, animals never-before seen on Senoa, and even stranger things the people of Locao can barely comprehend. Though much of what is occurring has not yet become public, it will soon, and no one can fathom the chaos that will ensue. Now, as the island of Locao and the city of Alako slowly become a dangerous place to be, heroes must rise to the challenge and save the island, all the while unraveling the mystery of the exploding meteor and the strange events that follow its arrival.

Background

Senoa is a world much like Earth. It is populated by humans and animals, many the same or close to the same as those found on Earth. The different continents, much smaller in comparison to Earth's own, are filled with varying biomes, dependent on proximity to the equator/northern and southern poles. The different races of humans are physically identical to those from Earth, though there are some slight cultural differences. For the purposes of your character, you may assume that the different races are very similar in culture to those of Earth.

This story takes place on the island of Locao, specifically in the city of Alako. Alako is a tightly built urban city on the west coast of the island, which is roughly the size of Connecticut. It is thickly populated by men and women of various ethnicities, all of which scatted through three social classes; rich, middle-class, and poor. There's a surprisingly low level of poverty in a city so large, mostly due to the abundance of well-paying factories on the oceanfront of the city. Most residents live in apartments, as the city is so densely populated. There is a down-town area full of sky-scrapers, a large park located in the northern part of the city, and, of course, a shipping and industrial zone on the coastal side. Many suburbs are located just outside of Alako, and beyond that farm land. The eastern side of the island is very rural, with only a few notable towns until you get to the western coast, where Fort Jordan is. Fort Jordan is mostly populated by relatives of those on the adjacent military base(Which goes by the same name), as well as those who work at the city's munitions factory.

The military forces mostly stay confined to the eastern side of the island, leaving the rest of the island under the watch of the "Peace Corps", which is a volunteer police force armed only with stun batons. Since there is little crime on the island, no real, formal police force has ever been established. There is a paid staff of investigators which also serve as liaisons to the global authorities, who work along side the Peace Corps to file reports and do proper investigation work, but they only number about thirty on the island. After the explosion of the meteor, the military has established a garrison in Alako, though their presence is still relatively weak.

Your Role

You will be playing the role of a main character in the story, fighting to uncover the reasons for what happened while protecting the innocent civilians of the island.
For the beginning of a story, you may start by posting a write up of your character discovering his or her powers, and you may do this before we begin play, as soon as you are approved. Bear in mind your starting phase.

At this time, I am not specifically looking for antagonist or anti-hero characters, but if you really want to play one, hit me up. We'll talk.

Toggle Rules

I intend to run this game much like I would a tabletop campaign, but I will not be constricting you with heavy rules and dice rolls. Instead, I wish to create a story together with my players through collaborative writing. I will, essentially, be your GM. I will control the NPCs and most of the other baddies you fight, as well as scenery and world details. You, however, get to play the main characters!

However, despite the freedom I wish to give you in this, I will be imposing a few basic rules.

1. No God Moding. I feel like this is a given. I will not approve characters with unbeatable/unstoppable status, and you will not portray your characters in such a manner. By this, I mean, your character will take damage and not all of his/her attacks will hit/do damage. It's a give and take, but I'm sure the people on this website know this, so I will not be elaborating on this one any more.

2. No Power Gaming. This is about the story, and role playing to win and get what you want is not going to produce a good story. This isn't about being selfish; this is about working together with others to make an amazing story that we can all remember years from now.

3. No Puppet Mastering. This is my job. I will NOT take control of your characters, directly, though I may for the sake of pacing decide that, say, you all meet up at this 'n that on Tuesday to work on your secret base, rather than wait for all of your posts saying that you go do so. This is purely for the sake of furthering the story, and I will never make your character do anything that you would not like them to do. If you ever have a problem with something I've done like this, tell me. We'll talk about it.

4. Character Death is an Option. While I will not ever strictly force you to kill off your character, do consider it. Death is not the best tool to use to further a story, but it can be employed that way. Perhaps your character staying behind to die fighting the zombie horde will inspire another character or characters to move in a different, more dynamic direction? Maybe your character's death in a firefight makes the scene that much more serious for everyone else? Death is an interesting and powerful Catalyst in a story, so I encourage you to consider it if it seems like it might happen.

5. Your Ideas are Important. If you think that taking the story in a certain direction would be awesome, tell me! Idea for a plot twist? Let me know! Think a certain event fits well in the background? I'm all ears. I have a good outline for the story, but if your idea sounds better, I might just throw mine out and replace it with yours!

6. Posts should be written in the present tense. Pardon me if I end up getting my tenses all screwy from time to time. It's a problem I often have while writing, so I won't freak out if you do it, too.

7. All character background should be pre-White Event.

8. For the purposes of the story, it will be generally assumed that one of two things occurred involving your character:

8a. Your character was outside when the meteor exploded and caught in the blast of light that came with that explosion. This either awakens dormant powers in your character, or creates mutations that give him or her new ones.

8b. Your character either found a chunk of the meteorite or came into contact with it some how. Maybe it flew through your character's bedroom window and embedded itself in his or her chest? Perhaps he or she found a piece in a crater in the woods? This is more of an origins thing than a way of determining powers. Your character may still mutate because of contact with the meteorite, or it may awaking his or her dormant powers. This is totally up to you. If you would like to make a character dependent on the meteorite chunk as a power source, I'm all for it.

Those aside, I will need a few things from you when you make your character. In your abilities/etc area, I'll need your character's powers in four stages. For the role play to be progressive, I'll need something for your character to progress to. Most player characters will be starting out at their first stage of development, which occurs just after the White Event. Some characters may start at stage two, depending on the character. A character that did not mutate, but instead had his/her dormant powers awakened, for example, might know more about what they can do and where their powers come from, depending. These characters may start at stage two, but this is strictly up to me, the GM.

As well as stages, I'm going to need a schedule, or a good idea of when you can meet to play. Like I said, I'd like to have us meet one or two nights a week, all at the same time, to post. I find this easier than having to wait on posts from certain individuals, and hopefully we can cover a good amount of ground each session and come to a stopping point, enabling us to do some light role play in between sessions in the typical post-and-wait fashion. There may also be weeks where we can't all meet at once, so then I might have us take a more slow-paced approach.

That's pretty much it for rules. If you stopping showing up/posting, I'll probably just remove your character from the story in some fashion. Not posting for extended lengths of time means submitting control of your character to me.

Also, there is a bit more info on character generation in the introduction bit. Sorry to scatter it, I guess I'm just a bit scatter-brained.

Also, please feel free to kind of have at it with the tech. Average technology on Senoa is about 30 years beyond earth's own. Phones and tablets are the norm and very thin, laptops are also very lightweight and the main form of personal computer. Most if not all cars and trucks are all-electric. Inter-planetary travel still has not occurred. Most rifles and large firearms are designed so there is a tank of chemical propellant and a tube of slugs loaded into them somewhere. Many pistols still use the cartridge and clip technology. Laser weapons exist but are not prevalent, and weapons in general have not had to advance very far, since war on Senoa is, in large part, a thing of the past.

Re: The Locao Incident

I'll be writing up a char too. Great idea by the way, haven't seen many super hero/power RPs around for a while now! :)

Question, is there a certain age range that we have to stick to?

Re: The Locao Incident

Uhh, sir, I would assume that this RP (which you all TOTALLY should go check out right now, incidentally) wasn't written by an 11 year old. :|

Re: The Locao Incident

I'm in. I'll start working on a char ASAP

Re: The Locao Incident

Its been a while since a rp has surfaced that wasn't spawned by an 11 year old. Ill start working on a character and get it in as soon as I can.

Re: The Locao Incident

I agree *_* I like the concept very very much.

Re: The Locao Incident

Consider me smitten with the concept, or at the very least entertained by it.
