She seemed momentarily uncomfortable. She shouldn't have said anything. She should have just let him go. But Gaia bringing that boy home had messed up her judgment. The feelings that she had was making Auris want it, and badly, and seeing Saxom here, sensing him...

"I have...a spirit that lives inside me." she told him. "Mom tells me its a monster, that it'll destroy humanity if I ever let it free, and because it's inside me, I can control it." She shrugged then, looking almost embarrassed.

"But I guess Mom doesn't trust us to leave. She likes keeping us close, so that she knows we're all safe."

"This is Lorn." Auris said, smiling then. "She's my sister."

"You shouldn't be hanging around here." Lorn cut in, her grey eyes never leaving Saxon's face. There was a sternness to her expression, but a hint of regret too. "It's nothing personal. This is just privately owned territory, and loiterers aren't well tolerated."

"Only because Mom says so." Auris muttered. Lorn shot her a look.

Lorn lifted her chin, the shadows of an old bruise coloring her cheek bone. "Auris," she said quietly, looking down to the other. "Gaia and Amin meant to make dinner. I haven't been back since this morning. Do you think you could check on them? Make sure the house hasn't burned down?"

There was silent communication, judging by the tightening in Auris's gaze. She looked to Saxom almost wistfully, giving him a wave before she abruptly disappeared from sight.

Lorn looked tired. "I'd invite you back for dinner, but I'm not entirely sure of what Auris has told you. About anything."

The door to Gambits opened of its own accord, the rush of a cool breeze tumbling in, dragging with it various debris from the streets. After a moment, a girl strode through, wearing a white blouse and jeans, with a colorful scarf wrapped a few times around her neck. Gentle blue eyes flickered about the establishment, her hands coming up to pull the scarf down away from her nose.

"I love this place already." she said with a grin, whisking up to the bar counter, and making eye contact with Zekil.

"Hi!" she greeted, nearly on her tiptoes as she leaned against the bar counter.

"I'm hoping to find a job here. My name's Auris."

But to her friends, she was known as Breathless.

Auris blinked slowly, having been ignored, and steadily leaned back away from the counter before running a hand through her hair.

"Alrighty then. I guess not." she said, her tone still amiable, but her eyes no longer soft. She shrugged, turning away from the counter and wandering over to a table, where she pulled out a chair, plopped into it, then put her feet up in the chair next to her.

The people were interesting, she mused, even if they were a little...well, ignorant.

She glanced up.

"Quick learner, creative, fast on my feet, good under pressure..." She shrugged. "And I've tended before, so...not sure what else you're looking for." Still vaguely annoyed, she sat forward in her seat, letting her feet swing back to the floor.

"I'm cute, but I've found that doesn't tend to help my chances for anything in life."

Not too long after Lorn made her way into Gambits, a second figure followed. Her bright eyes peeked over the hem of her multi-colored scarf, one that she quickly pulled away from her face as she took in the atmosphere with a wide smile.

Spying her sister, the girl made her way over to Lorn's side, standing next to her without fear of leaning on the counter. Lorn's nose wrinkled slightly.

"Why'd you come to a bar?" Auris asked, lifting a pale brow at her older sister.
Lorn sighed.

"Nothing better to do, really."

The port itself seemed deserted of inhabitants, but not so much in the way that a city might fall to ruin, it was merely empty in the way that cities were often empty when its people had recently abandoned it. Wind played at the sails of the small dinghy, carrying it forward, closer to the docks in a near-playful manner.

And, sitting on the dock's edge, a young girl watched the fisherman come into port. She wore jeans, a white blouse, and nothing else at all.

But she was certainly smiling.

The girl waved back, smiling in greeting, and if he were to watch closely, he'd see that she would vanish right before his eyes.

In that next moment, he'd find her in another place on the dock, sitting the same way, and smiling towards him.

"What did you catch?" she called, her voice unusually clear.

"Really?" Auris asked, shifting to stand on her tiptoes. One had was held to her brow, as if to shield her eyes from the sun. "I don't see anything there!"

Indeed, if Jonah were to look back, he'd find that his prized catch that he'd been trolling all that time was nowhere to be found.

"Sounds like someone's been spinning old fish stories." Auris said with a wink.

Auris's lips parted curiously, a smile growing as the fisherman abandoned his ship. In a flash, the woman disappeared, before reappearing on the man's dinghy. She took hold of the tilling, the boom responding to her touch, and with a joyous laugh, she began to sail around the harbor, leaving the poor man to flounder while she had her fun.

"Oh what a lovely little craft!" she called.

"What ship?" she called back, the craft sailing in a lazy circle. "You mean this one?"

She released the lines, watching as the ship began to sail around of its own accord, still in a lazy circle, and just out of Jonah's reach.

"It's beautiful!" she called to him. "Didja build it yourself?"

"Oh I'm not taking it, merely testing her out." She brought the ship right up alongside him, holding out a hand so she could help him up into the craft.

"You gotta understand, something like this is just too good of a chance to pas up. What's your name, oh slayer of big fish?"

"Auris!" she chirped. "I've been watching you for a little bit. I like how you move with the ocean. You seem to work well together."

She smiled, turning and standing on the edge of the hull, and clasping her hands behind her back. "So what makes a man like you want to hunt big fish rather than normal, eatable, fishy-fish?"

She peered at him over her shoulder.

"Really?" she cooed. "That's very noble of you. Are you the only one who lives around here?" Her eyes were round with curiosity as she turned back to look at him.

"I know of a lady who owns a bar in the area. She sails well. Very graceful and pretty on the water."

"She sails a lovely catamaran, sixty feet tall and nearly forty feet high." Auris said with a grin. She stepped off of the ship and onto the dock, sauntering about with her hands clasped behind her back once more.

"She's an excellent sailor, or so my sister says. The water seems to bend to her will." Auris looked back to give him a great big wink.

"Today I think the seas were having their way with you."

"So true," the woman replied dreamily. She followed after him, looking down at the great ugly thing he was dragging around. "Does this taste any good at all? I mean, really. It's rather unsightly..."

"If it's as valuable as it is smelly, I don't think you're going to have a problem at all." she noted, disappearing from one side and appearing abruptly on the other.

"So you'll drag that thing all the way back to town then? Who cuts it up? You? And that girl I was talking about, her name is Liz. Elizabeth. The ship she calls the Nautilus, which I almost found funny, considering that ship sank in an old story I read once."

"Ooooooohhhh. Can I help?" she chirped, flickering to stand in front of him. "Please? I'm a brave girl, and I'm strong. I can cut that thing up as easy as I mow grass!" Which she didn't do, but that was beside the point.
