Cichol

Sometimes things are not what they seem...

0 · 1,247 views · located in Forest Border

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Knosis

Description

"Wake up.. Are you awake? Good. Where are you? It doesn't matter right now. All that does matter is that you are safe. I am Cichol."

"Hm? You've heard of me? Let's put that to the side for now. I am here to help you regain what was lost to you. Your kind has been pushed around, pushed out of society, tortured, enslaved, murdered and blamed for crimes you didn't commit. You've been forsaken, left behind with no protection from the old gods. They are ashamed of you. But not me."

"I understand your pain. Is it fair that the gods favor one side but show no mercy to the other? Is it right to create something and call it a failure..? No. And I understand. I understand, because I have been treated the same way as your people. They've even gone so far as to call me a -monster-. You've been called that, too, haven't you? Right before they took your eyes out?"

"You're a cripple. They've taken your eyes, your arms away from you. You're alone, as they've taken your family away from you. Your heart is surrounded by anger and pain and a darkness that never seems to end. But I can fix all of that. I can fix -you-. I can make sure you can see, make sure you can fight.. I can give you the chance to find revenge for your family and finally be able to start a new one if you so desire. I can lead you to victory, you and your people, and you'll never have to worry about the fear of tomorrow. They will respect you again."

"How can I promise such things? Honestly, I cannot do it alone. But, with your help and others like you, there is nothing we cannot do. All I need is your help. Are you willing to follow me? Or do you wish to stay in this misery forever?

Personality

A lower god with nothing left but to go up from here.

Cold natured although he only shows this side to those who know him best. When he is in public, he typically seems to be easy going and easy to get along with.

So begins...

Running a hand through his shaggy hair, he looked at all the cards he had in his hand. Biting his lip he picked up two cards; a two of hearts and three of spades. "Two two's." He claimed, placing the two cards facing down. He tested the water, wondering if she would catch on quick. "Casinos make good money, I will have to see about it. Though it would only be a short while, hopefully, until I get something more honest."

"Well, a new acquaintance really. She hurt her leg, and I helped out a bit." He muttered, a dry laugh escaping his lips.

"You look... Stressed, Ms. Skyler. What's troubling you today?" He asked, his accent thick with his Irish influence. He took up a glass of whiskey and downed it, knowing it was probably the wrong question to be asked.

Jack chuckled softly and took up the pile into his hands, adding it to the rest of the cards in his hands. "Aye, ya caught me."

He raised a brow at Skyler. He wasn't even trying to fool anyone. "Poor company, eh? Can't help you there. Maybe you just attract unwanted attention, hm?"

He waited for Willow's turn, but his eyes were on Skyler now. "Aye, a talent for catching a liar is a good thing to have. Although, this is just the thing to practice at trying to find out what gives us away. You can find those traits and use them later." He said, although he meant it to be a two way street. To use to find liars and to be a better one.

As was stated before, very little went unnoticed by Jack. He'd notice, even the slightest movement under the bandanna, or the fact she hesitated more so than she did the first time she laid the cards down. He was slowly learning her, carefully.

Although.. He merely went on, despite the fact he knew she was lying. He played with his cards for a moment, seemingly moving them around to group them. He tried everything to seem like a rookie at this game. But none the less, he'd eventually pick up the four of diamonds and four of clubs, placing them down against the table. "Two fours." He said, very much as he had the first time when he had bluffed.

Jack looked down at this hand, and at all the fives he held. It was obvious this time and it would look as though he weren't trying if he didn't call her on this one. He cleared his throat gently and leaned forward. "Do you know, you have the most beautiful eyes? But, I'm afraid I'm going to have to call bullshit on that, m'dear." He commented softly, a soft smile upon his scraggly chin.

"So you are in construction, hm? Were you always in construction?"

The man shifted slightly in his seat, his smile never fading but it shifted to one of apology. "Then he was a very honest man. I'm sure I'd love to see more of your smile too, but I won't push." He commented softly.

"Use to live on a farm myself." He said. "Had a bunch of sheep. Drove me nuts when I had to watch them. Swore up and down I use to speak to them, but what was worse, they'd talk back." He chuckled wryly. "But I left when I was old enough, decided traveling the world with my magic tricks would keep me for the rest of my life. I think I was just tired of watching those sheep." He added jokingly.

He looked back down at his cards and placed down a 7 of diamonds. "One six."

"I am still sorry. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, losing someone you were so close to. But you are right, I wouldn't think he'd want you to sit around upset. And I think he'd want you to show off your smile still as well. You are a very beautiful lady, Ms. Willow." He stated softly. He didn't push into the story of how he was lost. It was better not to dig into painful memories like that, especially if they were fresh.

"Aye, but I may have just lost a few screws anyway. Sheep can do that to you." He chuckled, shuffling through his cards again. He placed down a diamond of 8. "One 8."

Slowly he nodded. He had no nines so he was positive she wasn't bluffing. "It might be different, but not marred, m'friend. You are beautiful, no matter what. It's an old fella like me who's more scarred and tainted than someone who's as honest and as kind as you, Ms. Willow." He stated softly. He placed down an ace of hearts and a three of clubs down. "Two tens." He said softly.

He gently laid his hand with the cards down on the table and grabbed his forehead with his free hand. He groaned this time, leaning forward as the pain shot through his skull.

Jack closed his eyes, taking in deep breaths of air. They hadn't been this close in a long time. Did they catch wind? But he had seen the scar as she shown it to him.

A moment later, the pain resided once again and he straightened back up again. He chuckled dryly and picked up the pile of cards that was on the table, and folded them into his small deck of cards. "Aye.. I'll be alright.." He grumbled, a frown framing his face for the briefest of seconds.

He then reached forward, a bold move, gently touching the side of her face. He smiled gently and caressed her cheek gently. "It doesn't matter. You are still beautiful." He said, gently. "Remember that."

"Doesn't matter. If those guys won't take you for who you are, then they don't deserve your time." He stated firmly. "And though I may have only met you for a few hours, you can bet that I do care about you, Ms. Willow. I'm not going to let others kick you down because what they see is a scar. What they don't see is the story beneath it." He said softly.

He then pulled back and looked back down at his cards. "Yes.. I'm fine.. Though, if it happens again, I won't be so sure.." He joked lightly.

The man's eyes flashed at the mention of someone special, his eyes growing dark. He even bit his lip as his chest tightened, remembering the one he did hold special. "Well.. I tried." He muttered softly, filling his glass full and downing the whiskey in one solid gulp. "Can't hold someone close if they don't want to be.." He muttered quietly, bitterly. It was the first time his mood had turned sour since he met Willow.

"Nah, doesn't make you look like a bandit. Think it makes you look more like the old cowgirls back in the day. Suit's your personality as well, Ms. Willow." And then he faked an appalled look. "Me? A terrible flirt? Neverr.." He said a bit sarcastically. "I always say what I mean and I mean what I say." He winked.

He looked down at the cards and burst out laughing. "I honestly don't remember myself!" He chuckled.

"Well.." He muttered. "I don't know. I do know she's in trouble.. And I can't help now that I can't find her.." He muttered, placing his stack of cards down gently on the table. Tears welled slightly, but he quickly shook off the feeling.

Especially when she laughed. "Aye, there you go. That's what I like to hear, a pretty lady as yourself shouldn't be so down."

The man shook his head gently. "Not if they don't want to be found by me, Ms. Willow. But thank you for the suggestion." He smiled softly to her.

"And that's good. If you keep smiling, soon you won't need the old bandanna hiding your beautiful face. You could wear it around your neck if it feels better to have it somewhere than having it completely off." He chuckled, taking another sip on his whiskey.

He shivered slightly, and the hairs on the back of his neck rose. He seemed to get nervous all of a sudden, constantly looking over his shoulder. "I swear, someone's walking on my grave.." He muttered.

The muscles in his jaw tightened as he recalled the story. Most pain, he could have dealt with easily, but the one seemed to know how to hit all the right buttons to help the ache dig a bit deeper every time. His dark blue hues focused on his hands, which were folded together on top of the table top that was pocked and scarred with age, carved and mistreated through the entire time they'd been in the facility. Many of the stains in the tabletop were best left a mystery as well.

Finally he took a deep breath and licked his bottom lip gently as he resigned. "Well, I promised her protection as best I could offer. She thought she'd be a burden on me and when I tried to insist, she ran." He muttered, never giving the full details. "I cared enough to try to show her a freedom she never could experience with the situation she is in.. And well.. I know her. She'd hide in a place someone would find her, but not me.." He finished. "Just so she wasn't a burden.. But what she never realized, is that she's more a burden with me worrying about her every day and not being able to do a damned thing about it."

He coughed, clearing his throat gently. "Never said not wear it. Just wear it about your neck or wrist. Would still be helpful when you need it most." He suggested.

Looking over his shoulder again, Jack would see a new entrant enter the building. A tall cloaked man with broad shoulders came in, walking to the counter and speaking to the barkeep. Jack stiffened slightly and turned back around quickly.

He coughed nervously, laughing to hide his nervousness and rubbed the back of his head gently. "Oh.. She is about.. This tall, has blue hair.." He started spouting off things that would describe Wendy to a 't'. ".. And she carries a lamp with her.. Like the old fashioned oil lamp from the desert, not the modern lamps.." He murmured.

He took another sip of his whiskey, not daring to look back at the man. But he could tell his eyes were boring into the back of his head.

Jack physically shuttered, grabbing his hair with his hands again. Suddenly, it was like his eyes were lit, like sapphires on fire. He glanced back at the robed man with a dark expression, almost like he was silently threatening the man to come near him. The hooded man responded in kind with a slight nod of his head.

He started forward to the pair and suddenly, he vanished, like a veil of mist that evaporated in the sun. Jack let out a soft sigh, and when he turned back around to Willow, his eyes were back to normal again.

"A pawn shop?" He asked, as though nothing strange just had taken place. "Did he happen to mention which pawn shop?"

He grabbed his head again and laughed slightly. "Magic? Is that what you call what happened to that man?" He asked, seemingly surprised. "I only do a few card and coin tricks, nothing like that.." He muttered. "But he was quite brutish, wasn't he? Kind of glad he's gone now.."

He filled up the glass again, which made this an unusually high number of glasses for him, and he should be more than just a little drunk by this point, yet he seemed just as sober as ever.

"I'll give it a look then.. Hopefully it might still be there.." He muttered.

"If.. If I find her.." He muttered slowly rummaging through his pockets. He came up with a business card. "If you see her, mind giving me a call. Oh, and.." He paused before handing it to her. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to call, either, Ms. Willow." He stated simply. "I mean it, doesn't matter what time of day. I'll be there for you, aye?"

"Then shout my name. You'd be surprised what I'd figure out when my ears are burning." He chuckled softly. But as soon as she started pulling up her bandanna once again, he would try to stop her short. "Don't be ashamed of who you are, Ms. Willow. I know you might not think it, but you are hiding yourself away. Don't forget to smile." He said softly.

"I'm going to try to see if the lamp is still there.." He muttered. "If not then.. I guess I'll be back." He said. He bowed slightly. "Until next tim--" His eyes grew wide as the hooded man appeared behind him yet again. Jack spun around blocking the first blow easily, but the next came down hard. His world flickered slightly as he fell to his knees. Soon after, both men disappeared within a blink of an eye, with nothing but a breeze telling of their absence.

Crash. The sound of clattering and breaking chairs and tumbling and scraping of wooden tables against the wooden floors sounded chaotically as the man seemingly fell from thin air. Jack was back, but not in as good of shape has he had left.

Bruises and cuts lined his face, blood soaked through his jacket and on his white button up shirt, and even his shoulder was laid open. One eye was completely swollen shut, but the long blade he carried was covered in just as much blood as he was.

He breathed heavily as he just.. Laid there for a moment, laughing half relieved, half out of pained madness.

Jack groaned as he heard the shouting going on and slowly rolled over. Pieces of broken wood stuck through his back and he hissed with every pop his body made. He had barely escaped, but he was beaten within every inch of his life.

"What's all the commotion.." He muttered, mostly to himself, although he'd hoped someone would answer. The Irishman could barely see, after all.
