Name: Embre Foster
Age: 19
Race: Human
Significant Relations: Fellow students at Celestia; Lan Varynus, a childhood friend.

Height: 5'8"
Weight: 134lbs
Hair Colour: Blonde
Eye Colour: Hazel
Build: Slim
Skin Tone: Fair

Personality: Wild, unpredictable and ever-so-slightly crazy are three ways to describe Embre. An atypical student party animal. Embre isn't a girly-girl, though, even if she'd fit in like a charm with the cheerleaders and co. Something of a hybrid, Embre has both an aptitude for her studies and a reckless, rash and brazen side. A friend of Lan's from childhood, she has a fierce loyalty to him and is incredibly protective of the slightly wimpy boy. A girl's got to look after her gay BFF, after all.

Skills and Talents:
  • Holding her drink.
  • Not holding her drink, if the situation calls for it.
  • A dancer -- nothing elegant or technical, but Embre can move in a club or at a party without looking like a twit.
  • Remarkably intelligent, considering the amount of time she spends off her head.
  • Talking. And talking. And talking.

Abilities:
  • Lesser Magic - Fire and Arcane.
  • Divination: Embre can, to a degree, learn an object's history simply by holding it, including who its owners were, what has happened around it and what it has been used for. This also applies to things like hair, blood, and even plants
  • Retrocognition: Embre can often display knowledge of a past event she has experienced that she could not have acquired by normal means given where she was or what she was doing at the time. For example, she could relate back to you the features of a man who walked into a bar, took a package, and out again, whilst the entire time having been facing the other way.

(Note: Embre's Divination and Retrocognition are not always entirely reliable, as she is still studying)

So begins...

Embre "Ohhh don't worry." Embre murmured ominously. "I don't intend to be harsh immediately. I want to watch him squirm for a bit first."

Embre took the tea with a smile though. "Thank you, dear." she said to Darius, inclining her head.

"Good evening, Virgil." Embre said curtly to Gamble, offering no explanation to her knowledge of his name for a good number of seconds, watching for the surprise and discomfort before she continued. "I don't think we have met before, but I've heard a lot about you. Lan does go on about the things he likes and is happy about so much, the poor thing is ever so naive. The fact he gets so ecstatic about things does make him a bit fragile though." she then explained, carefully placed biting emphasis spread throughout her words.

Embre smiled wryly "So I hear. Problem being, Lan isn't very good at sorting things out. He fails to notice that he was used for sex by someone, told he was special, explicitly not told about other romantic interests, then dumped the next day like a piece of trash at the roadside. He thinks that it's not your fault, that he shouldn't have 'seduced' you. I don't buy it, he's just too kind. Not only that, but Miss Lain kindly informed the pair of this morning that it was entirely possible the entire charade had been conducted simply because of a few drawn cards!" Embre exclaimed.

"Did he mean that little to you? A fucking card?"

Embre "Huh. Maybe Lan is getting better at hiding how he really feels, but I've known him for years. The poor guy is a fucking wreck! He's eaten our apartment out of ice cream, chocolate, and any form of sweet-treat in existance over the last weekend! And believe me, we keep a LOT in, I'm a student, I need my sugar fuels." Embre continued, barely breaking step.

"Sure, with time you might be able to be friends, but you can't honestly believe that for a guy so inexperienced that it'll just go away. You know how many guys he's dated? One, that lasted for about half a year, and when it was over... that wasn't pretty. He's very emotionally fragile, possibly overly so, but I'm not going to just sit by and say 'yeah, okay.' Urrgh. MEN. You don't get stuff like this, do you?"

Embre scowled, "Stop... trying to..." she protested, "You're trying to get me to feel sorry for you! Make yourself sound better in my eyes, excuse yourself. Well I... I don't bloody buy it!"

Pausing, she turned to Darius, her entire demeanour shifting to a pleasant smile and friendly tone "Yes, dear, what is it?"

Embre was not at all pleased that Gamble was so reticent and believable, and nothing at all like the easily broken down facade who was in fact a devious and coy manipulator of hearts bent on causing disruption for his own sick amusement.

Embre was quite elaborate in her demonising of people she didn't know, and didn't appreciate it that all that work was for nothing.

Embre blinked "That would be wonderfully thoughtful of you, love! I'm sure that it will brighten him up at least a bit. It's always nice to know that somebody cares, especially if you don't expect them to."

Turning back to Gamble, Embre sighed. "Alright, Virgil, Gamble, Apple - whatever you like to be called. Let's try something new. Let's pretend for a moment that I'm not furious with you, and that you aren't irritated by my onslaught of accusations. Let's get some facts straight."

Embre held up a finger for each point. "One. What exactly happened leading up to your night at Lan's apartment, and just what went down when you were there. Two. What exactly happened the next morning that led to your informing Lan that you just wanted to be friends - what changed your mind? Three. What exactly are your feelings toward A: Lan and B: Bartender ma- I mean, Darius. Once we get those sorted out, I reckon we can go about this more reasonably."

Embre sighed. "Well..." she mused, shaking her head. "It's all rather more complicated when you hear both sides of the story and they match up. I just thought Lan was being too nice..."

Embre scowled "I'm still not happy. You should maintain better self control, one night stands only work for a small number of people and Lan isn't one of them. If he... well, if you ended up together the next morning, he had obviously taken a very big shine to you. It meant something to him, even if you don't remember it."

"But I don't suppose I can be angry for you at point B. If my guess is correct you're suffering enough for that already. Maybe given time both you and Lan will get over your respective hurts and be able to be friends - just don't expect any miracles. I think I can draw him out of his shell, though, now that I get just what happened."

Embre sighed again, "And I suppose I owe you an apology for jumping to conclusions. I'm rather protective of him, as you may have guessed..." -c-

Embre "Hey now, just because I've stopped calling you a bastard doesn't mean you can start copying me." Embre said, jabbing Gamble in the ribs.

"Now I know Lan, and he won't want you beating yourself up over this. If you do, it'll only make him feel worse, making you feel worse, making him feel worse, and etcetera. A vicious cycle. So just stop."

Embre took the box from Darius with another friendly smile "Thank you so very much, Darius. These are very much appreciated, I shan't forget your kindness, as cliche as that sounds!" she said, leaning down to place an affectionate peck on the top of the man's head - of course she had no idea how embarrassed it would make him, and entirely thought him gay anyway.

"Now listen, Virgil. You've had a bad week. Pissed people off. Everyone does it - man, I've pissed Lan off so many times, and my other friends. With my limited knowledge of the situation... for starters, you need to stop building yourself a pit of self pity, and start doing something about it. Beating yourself up only worsens the situation between you and Lan, so stop that. Devote some time to Lain, she was feeling very dejected, even if she seems hostile, keep pressing her. As for Darius, I don't think that anything you've done has seriously hurt him, though that's only a guess from his behaviour now." -c-

Embre turned to Darius "Sorry to talk over you like that, maybe you should confirm this to Virgil?" she queried.

"But anyway. Darius aside, your other two problems have obvious solutions. Just. Be. Yourself. Stop being mopy and apologetic, be friendly and upbeat - when someone else is it's usually infectious."

Embre had a lot of experience coaching dithering idiots into sorting out their lives. She was a popular student, it happened around her a lot.

Embre blinked "Virgil? What just happened?" she asked, aware of the cards' importance, if only vaguely. "Does that... mean something? The cards, they aren't supposed to... are they? Lain only explained it briefly..."

Embre frowned "Do you want any help, picking them up, or anything?"

Embre "Who's the Lady, dear? What's wrong?" Embre pressed, placing a hand on Gamble's arm. "Does this mean trouble? I've learned to expect trouble from ominous mumblings connected to seemingly insignificant events. Wizards and Witches can do a lot with mumbling." she said.

"Honey? You're worrying me..."

Embre "What does it mean that you dropped them, Virgil? That isn't normal, that I can tell from your reaction." Embre quizzed, concerned at Gamble's obvious worry.

"And what does Lady Luck do when she isn't pleased..."

Embre "So when you drop them all, that means she's telling you to what?" Embre ventured, raising an eyebrow "It can't be her telling you to take tennis lessons to improve your hand-eye coordination, it must be related to something going on. Can't be a coincidence it happened just when you're all stressed."

Embre "I don't dig the gods myself. Never liked them. 'Worship me or I smite ye with lightning' - never sounded like my type. Not revering any of 'em hasn't got me into trouble so far. Luck's no different." Embre said, shrugging. "Is she so cruel as to smite you just for a mistake, or even were it not a mistake, deciding she isn't the god for you?"

Embre "Eeh..." Embre eeh'd. "That doesn't sound fun. If it helps, I have a bunch of bored and troublesome witches and wizards who would totally dig taking a jab at the gods with complicated ritual some time. Though, that might not work. I guess, depends on how tough this bond is."

Embre frowned "But I really need to go now. Do you need to like, stay with someone? I wouldn't want to be alone after possibly pissing off a god... you could come back to mine and... Lan's place, if you want. I'd call a head, obviously, to avoid it being too awkward, but I'm sure he'll be okay with it..."

Embre "Look, honey. It's no bother, we have plenty of room, and if you give me a chance to talk to Lan first I reckon that a friendly evening together could be very beneficial to recovering your friendship. It's as I said though, up to you. I'd love to have you, you're far more decent than many folk I've met, and I reckon we're gonna be good buddies!"

Embre flipped open her phone and tapped a few keys, waiting for a few moments before it was answered. "Hii, Lannn! I'm sorry about earlier, I've gotten the bee out of my bonnet now. I spoke to Vergil, and we've come to the conclusion that I'm a bit of a bitch, and really should listen to you more. No, I haven't set him on fire. No, I didn't set ANYTHING on fire, thank you very much!"

Embre rolled her eyes. She wasn't THAT bad. "Look, here's the thing. Vergil's had a scare, to do with his cards - yeah, those, but it's deeper than that. Look, we can talk about that when I get home, yeah? Can Vergil come over, is what I'm trying to ask - I don't want you to get upset. I know you don't, honey, I just didn't want to... okay, brilliant! I'm sure he'll be very grateful! See you in a few minutes, then!"

Embre snapped the phone shut "He's okay with it!" she said, smiling. "Shall we?" she queried, gesturing towards the door.
