Farrar Magnus

A great blacksmith that doesn't care for war, even if his livelihood depends on it.

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by DSniper

Description

Farrar Magnus is not young by any means, but that doesn't make him incapable. As a human, he was born into a warring world filled with blood, violence, and death. He survived all the wars, but almost all of his family did not. With only his mother and himself left, Farrar had been bitten by war, and it was a wound that never truly healed. Now, with Farrar at age 45, his mother is one of the oldest surviving members of the Craft Guild, and neither of them are getting any younger. However, even though Farrar's muscles might not be as finely tuned as they were when he was 20, age has treated him nicely. He is acclaimed as one of the best blacksmiths in the guild, making some of the best weapons for some of it's best warriors. He is ever searching for better materials from the old world, and always enjoys a good story from other tribes when they are not warring. Unfortunately for him, those times are few and far between, and will only get more distant with time.

Personality

Farrar is best described as a friendly giant. He is a kind man, knowing the hardships that many have to go through for their entire lives. he always tries to make those around him feel better, even for just a moment, so they can forget about all the war and horror around them. He is especially friendly to children, as he knows first hand how difficult living a life in these times can be for a child. However, don't mistake his friendliness for weakness. He is a widely muscular man to be feared and respected, but he can not hide his kind heart.

Equipment

He is equipped with most of what you would expect a blacksmith to have on him: a couple different types of hammers and mallets, a thick leather-hide apron, a small variety of nails (just in case he needs them), a small chunk of flint, and his favorite sharpening rock. Oh, that and his own personal longsword. It is, in his opinion, the best sword he has ever made. It was reconstructed a couple times throughout his career, and had numerous smaller additions and fixing to it. What makes it so special to him are the materials that is is made of, and from whom he got help from: a Magi.

This was many, many years ago, back when the two factions were not at odds with each other. This particular magi knew much about blacksmithing and metalworks, and had told Farrar that he had this special material. It was lighter and much stronger than steel. Most of the long neck of this sword is made from this very rare metal from the old world: something called Carbon Fiber. It made the sword lighter than any other longsword of it's length that Farrar had ever made. The edge of the blade itself was still steel however. This was a change to the sword Farrar made after he realized that Steel was much easier to sharpen than carbon fiber.

History

As a young boy, Farrar had to endure many difficulties. His father and two younger siblings died when his village was invaded by a warring faction when he was only 8 years old. From that day on, the only family he knew was his mother, and he protected her mercilessly. There were a couple of times in his youth that he had even attempted to take full grown men head on in order to protect his mother from thieves and evil men. He had paid the price for it more than once too. However, his persistence and vigilance had paid off. No one bothered his distraught mother or him once he had grown old enough to hold and swing a sword.

He was however, admittedly, horrible at sword fighting. That was until one of the villager's blacksmith's took him under his wing. The blacksmith was a kind man, teaching him in a both firm and kind manner. Once a teenage Farrar got past his arrogance about the situation, he started learning things faster than how the blacksmith knew how to teach them. Within just a short 8 years, at the age of 23, the leader of the village appointed him as an official blacksmith, letting him fly solo for the first time. This was one of the most happy moments in his life. He now had a purpose; a calling for which he felt more passion about than anything else he had done. Unfortunately, the happiness didn't last long.

Less than 5 months later, the man who taught Farrar everything he knew, died in an accident when he was out exploring some of the old world. The village deeply mourned this loving man whom had provided for the village for decades. For Farrar however, he had to mourn in silence, for now there was only one blacksmith in his village, and war was coming.

Years later, after the war, things had greatly calmed down. Farrar however had become sick of being so close to war. His village had been invaded far too many times, and his friends were dying all around him. He was starting to wonder if it was all really worth it, or if it was time to move on from the war torn region that had been his home for so long.

So begins...
