Tap, Tap, Tap

The cane preceded him, nudging against the bar door and pushing it open behind the wolf that had gone in ahead of him. He entered Gambits, his tall, broad-shouldered figure clad in a grey shirt today, but what appeared to be the same pair of jeans. He still wore his reflective aviator sunglasses, 'looking' around the room curiously as a smile curved the corners of his lips.

He smelled dog today. A lot of it. "Cavis?" he called curiously, wondering if he'd guessed right. The blind man had befriended a Beast not long ago.

"We met a little while ago." Jaryd replied with an amused smile on his face. Beast, on the other hand, was doing his best to avoid looking at the other man. "I happened to help him get himself out of a.." he hesitated, looking up at Beast with a wide grin on his face.

"A briar patch." Beast replied gruffly, chugging the screwdriver in one swallow. "I was stuck in a bush."

"So when I walked in here, I thought I'd smelled dog..." Jaryd began, but Beast reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder, turning him toward the other wolf in the room. The man did his best not to spill the Coke that Lena handed to him, and during the whole maneuver he'd kept his face turned towards her, an amused smile on his face.

"I'm not the only dog in here." Beast growled. Jaryd's brow rose.

"It's an animal," he mused, setting his cane off to one side and handing Lena back the drink. Immediately he dropped to a crouch, holding his hand out and whistling to the wolf.

Beast rolled his eyes. "Strange man." he grumbled.

Beast seemed to catch on pretty quickly. "Don't give me that look, girl. I may look like a dog, but I eat my meat cooked like a regular man."

"Don't bare your teeth at Lena or I'll castrate you with my cane." Jaryd replied good-naturedly, taking the meat from Lena and standing so he could walk a couple steps closer to the wolf. Half-way between, he lowered himself into a crouch again and held the meat out to the animal.

"How do you know Jaryd?" Beast growled at the woman, bangs obscuring the blue of his eyes.

He had to smile. There was very little in life that didn't bring a smile to the blind man's face. He sat back on his heels, hearing senses a bit overwhelmed by the amount of noise that filled the bar. Slowly, he stood to his feet, pivoting on his heel and attempting to seek out Lena. While it looked as if he was 'looking' for her, he was really listening. There was far too much going on for him to figure out which was a safe way back to the bar counter.

So, he stood there, looking a tad confused and hesitant, and waited.

He turned toward the sound of Beast's shout, confidently walking over to him and Lena before coming to a stop next to his taller, lupine friend. He wasn't aware that the wolf had followed until he heard her whine, and directed his attention downward, more in the direction of the animal.

Ah, he thought he'd smelled the scent of blood. "She seems to be injured.." he noted quietly

Jaryd Foster felt Lena move nearby him, and gently touched her elbow to get a sense of where she was going. After setting the staff off to the side, he kneeled next to her, looking towards the wolf, listening out for her and for Lena. He was ready to jump in to help if necessary, but mostly he was just hoping that the injured animal would let them help.

"I think," he said to Lena softly, "She likes you."

"Go ahead," Jaryd cautioned. "Just watch the tag."

He wished he could see Lena interacting with the wolf. Both of them were injured, cautious creatures, unsure of who to trust, expecting danger around every corner, and only willing to put themselves out there when they were most desperate and desirous for some reassurance that they were cared for and protected.

He lifted a hand and gently rested it on Lena's shoulder. "How would you like it if I took you to dinner sometime, Lena?" he asked as he listened carefully for any signs that the wolf was growing agitated. "As a thank-you." he added calmly. Of course that wasn't his only intention, but it was the one that would make Lena feel the most comfortable.

Ah, see now, you've been caught in your white lie.

Jaryd shrugged. "For helping me last night, for being my eyes. It probably took a lot of courage just to talk to me the way you did, and I appreciate you giving me the benefit of the doubt." He looked back to the wolf when she yelped, left hand poised, ready to intervene if need be.

"And besides a thank you, I simply want to," he added almost as an afterthought.

"Whenever is most convenient for you." Ironic that he'd forgotten how soft her skin was. When she'd gently taken his hand to remove it, not out of annoyance or disgust, but reassurance, she'd held it longer than was required, the warmth of her fingertips pressing delicately into the courseness of his own hand.

He pulled his hand back, laying it down on his thigh before angling his face toward the wolf. An intelligent creature would seek the help of strangers. "It's infected." he explained. "It needs cleaning."

Jaryd watched as the wolf progressively got more comfortable with him, smiling as her slimy tongue whipped up and down his palm. She tasted the food. "Looks like you'll be needing something a little more substantial than the meat." he said quietly, pulling his hand away and then tentatively touching his palm to the creature's forehead. So what if she bit him? He was blind. He'd never see it coming.

"So what do you say, Lena?" he posed again, glancing in her direction.

"And when we've finished helping this poor creature, I'd like to help you finish those dishes." he replied, not looking at her now. He refused to acknowledge any protest, should it come, and instead readied to help Lena should she need it. After all, he didn't necessarily need his eyes to make a dish clean. Kelsie had made sure of that.

Jaryd smiled, rising from his position and taking up his staff before reaching for the bar counter. Once he found it, he began to walk slowly back to the area where he knew the entrance to the kitchen was. He felt along, sliding inside the open, echoey space before swinging his cane around in order to locate the counter, the sink, and the high pile of dishes.

He was grinning like the impetuous fellow he was, and with a small chuckle, the man turned on the water, and began to soap up what dishes he could find.

"ARGH!" Jaryd shouted at roughly the same time the wolf had howled. He's sprayed himself with water, soaking his shirt and the front of his pants. Quite frankly, he looked like he'd been pissed on by a racehorse.

Taming the watery spray with sheer willpower, he forced the rinser back into its holder before grabbing the next dish. Lena hadn't been kidding.

But the man was determined.

He was laughing to himself, having pushed his way through a good portion of the dishes, stacking them neatly on the opposite side of the counter. Curious that Lena hadn't already come to stop him, but no matter. He'd attempt to finish this job or at the very least have a good hack at it.

He'd lost track of his cane, but it hardly mattered. Lena had taken care of guiding him around when she'd come in, scolding him and taking his elbow in order to pull him out of the kitchen. He gave in, but only after swearing to himself that he wouldn't let her get buried under those dishes at any point during the evening.

"Meet someone?" the man asked, turning his head in the direction of her voice. It had been a long, long time since he'd been guided. It was an odd sensation, being at the mercy of another person, a woman especially. "You'll have to describe him to me, or at the very least..."

He cut off mid-sentence. The aura he sensed, well, it hinted that whatever Lena was about to introduce him to (yes, what, not who) was something quite out of this world.

"That makes sense," Jaryd replied knowingly, nodding once as he took to standing behind his chair, rather than sitting in it. To be perfectly honest, he wasn't comfortable with sitting when he didn't have much of an idea of what he was dealing with. The auras weren't helping either. Those self-same spirit fogs were about as confusing as Lena's description.

"Nice to meet you." Jaryd said with a small smile, his reflective aviator sunglasses doing nothing more than mirroring Templewick's image, should he try to search for the eyes behind the lenses. He turned his face in the direction of Lena, grounding himself on the stable warmth her aura gave. It let him know he wasn't dreaming, or that his senses weren't off. Indeed, he had a feeling similar to being thrown in a rotating room.

Realizing that he appeared awkward and tense, Jaryd let his shoulders relax, rolling them once or twice before taking the chair and seating himself. Even though he was no longer standing, he was still considerably taller than the average man, and the way he carried himself served to improve this fact. As he got settled, he leaned toward the table, resting his forearm on the smooth surface and looking toward Templewick. It was alright, he told himself. He wasn't afraid, never afraid, just confused that his own senses were being undermined.

When Lena announced that they were going to have wine, he thought he should protest, but stopped himself. One glass of wine wouldn't hurt him in the least bit. In fact, hew as almost certain he would enjoy it. The only phrase that threw up a flag of caution for him was 'a couple glasses'.

"Where do you work currently, Templewick?" he asked amiably, all previous signs of discomfort now gone.

Jaryd nodded, smiling easily as he pulled back and crossed his arms over his chest. "When I was in college I wanted to get into Criminal Justice like my Father had, but then this happened," he pointed to his glasses, "...and I ended up over here, so, currently I'm working with a trainer to cultivate what he likes to call my 'inner talents'."

Meaning, getting a better sense of his surroundings using the senses he had...and the extra senses too. "Who knows," the man added after a thoughtful pause. "Perhaps I'll still get to do what I want to do. I have the degree after all. May as well not waist it."
