Ro Retna

Special Agent Retna, SIB.

0 · 1,392 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Cloasse

Description

Image

Name: Romanae Retna

Nicknames: Ro, Rory

Race: Human

Birthday: 23 August

Age: 34

Gender: Female

Height: Five feet six inches

Weight: 124 lbs

Eye Colour: Dark gray

Hair Colour: Dark titian (ginger)

Distinguishing Marks: The majority of Romanae's body is scarred. She has light white marks running diagonally down her left cheek, and she has a scar trailing from the left corner of her mouth to the middle of her cheek. Her torso, arms and thighs are especially scarred.

Other Features: Romanae's accent is a deeper Scottish lilt and is considered rougher than the average female voice.

History: Previously a Captain in the British Army, Ro now works for Wing City Police Department's SIB as a Special Agent. The SIB (Special Investigations Branch) deals with crime involving/against those in the Armed Forces and Military Police Arms. With a team of four men and herself as leading officer making five, the small but functional team worked well together until a new face was introduced.

Five months previously, another officer had left the team in order to be transferred across seas as a liaison officer. Now that there is a new probationary officer involved, it isn't quite so certain that Ro's team will gel as well as the last one did.

So begins...

Once again, Special Agent Retna strode into the bar with the sole intention of getting a cup of tea to go. She had a lot of paperwork sitting in the office, not to mention that she had a case on-going and the chances of that case getting solved with just James there to motivate the team with his slow speech were so slim that Ro wasn't sure it was even a possibility.

"If you can get me a cup of tea, love, that'd be fan-dabby-dosy," the somewhat irritated agent ordered from the bartender as she approached the counter. "ASAP."

"What..?"

"As soon as possible. In other words, stop staring at me like you've just seen me pulla giraffe out of my arse and get me a cup of tea, please."

Ro Retna heaved a sigh and settled herself onto a barstool. Fuck the paperwork for an hour or two, she really just needed to sit down for a little while.

As she waited for her tea, Romanae took the time to check out those in the bar -- there was that kid from yesterday, Ro was quick to note after glancing over Chide and his company.

"Here you go, Ma'am," the reluctant bartender eventually said, placing a large cup of tea in front of the woman who had, at one point, been a soldier. Soon, the bartender had hurried away to the kitchen.

"Ta," the Scotswoman muttered.

Ro Retna leant back against the bar. She, of course, wasn't in uniform -- "uniforms are for tours of duty, medal ceremonies and funerals, not sitting around the SIB office in," she recalled herself saying when she put together her latest team three years ago -- but instead wearing a modest tank top along with a pair of jogging trousers; she'd decided to hit the gym with James during a lull in paperwork, and she'd found it ever so satisfying to spar against the tall computer techy...

The slightest hints of a smile settled on her lips as she stared idly above Chide's head.

Ro Retna picked up her tea. The kid couldn't have been talking about anything that important - he was a kid, for any sake, and so the agent felt quite justified in sliding off her stool and striding over to the table Chide shared with another being.

"Shouldn't you be in bed or at playgroup or something, kid?" the Scottish woman asked with a quirk of a grin.

Ro Retna frowned slightly as she caught the tail-end of that conversation, a bit... disturbed by the nature of the details. Still, the woman shook it off as just an unfortunate bit of out-of-context disturbance. As Chide kissed the back of her hand, she raised an eyebrow.

"You do realise that literally no one has ever done that to me. That's just really, really creepy, kiddo. Who's your friend?" she asked, gesturing towards the Official with one hand whilst she wiped the other on her thigh. "Hm?"

Ro Retna shrugged her shoulders. "You're mistakin' me for a lady then," she pointed out as she took a quiet drink from her teacup. "And I didn't mean to draw you away from your... scientist-friend, by the way. I'd have been quite happy to wander back to my office all by myself and carry on with paper work," the agent smirked. "Not that that would have been any fun at all, but then I have to wonder if you're any fun, too..."

There. The case was damn near solved and all that was left to deal with now were the necessary forensic tests that Danny would be carrying out right now (if he knew what was good for him). This meant that, until those tests were completed, which Daniel had estimated at two to three hours, Ro could slip out of the banter-infested office and have a relaxing, quiet cup of tea that didn't taste like they had been using the same teabag for a week and a half.

"Cup of tea, please," the strict agent almost gently ordered from the bartender present. "No sugar, plenty of milk."

Ro Retna paid the barman who returned her area of the counter with her cup of tea. "Thanks, mate," she muttered, taking a grateful sip. "Thank God for real milk..."

And yet there was still something to ruin her day, like the quiet vibration from her jacket pocket. Soon, her mobile was removed from the garment and snapped open.

"Retna. No -- listen to me, Jane, you don't phone me to tell me that the machine is broken. Do you know who you are supposed to phone when equipment breaks?" The Senior Agent waited for a moment and nodded her head with a roll of her eyes. "That's right, Jane, you phone maintenance!" With that, the call was ended and Romanae's attention was once again on her tea and the bar.

"Blood in hell, idiots..." The woman sighed and she turned with her tea in her hands to raise an eyebrow at Chide. "I swear you shouldn't be in here this often..."

Ro Retna shrugged her shoulders as she approached Chide with her tea. "Daniel Jane is a wonder forensics scientist, but sometimes I have to wonder if that genius came at the cost of a lack of common sense," she said with a shrug. "He'll be fine once he gets a new machine; I sent in the bloody form about a month ago..." Ro added with a roll of her eyes. "And you're looking for that man again, huh..? I thought you said it was just a bit of science mumbo-jumbo."

"We've nearly cracked the case," she answered. "Just waiting on the results from our forensics lab, and Jane isn't going to get his machines to work any faster if I hover over him or bore myself to tears in my office listening to Davids and Isaacs argue about which of the two will get my job 'when I get myself killed.' You tell me whether I've got time to spare or whether I'm taking a much needed break, kiddo."

Ro Retna snorted. "No offence, kiddo, but my current medical examiner's doing just fine, and he's done his tour of duty just like the rest of my team has. Have you done your customary eight-year tour of duty yet, kid? Only Jane hasn't done a tour, and that's 'cause he's always been a forensics expert. But... y'know, if Clowes wants a hand, I'm sure he'd love an assistant at some point," she grinned.

"Jeez, kid, d'you even know what the SIB is? Special Investigations Branch -- we're nearly all military personnel before we come to work for the SIB and we work near enough 24/7. We're the Major Threat Response team; murder, kidnappings, terrorists, any and all major crimes committed by or against any military personnel, we deal with it. It's not so much fun putting away people who have protected the country you served for too... But they're not above the law, either."

"Aww, kid, you didn't offend me. I just think that you're a little misinformed. My youngest team member just turned twenty-six, y'know? He's just finished a six month stint out on the field and the only reason he's finished his tour two years early is 'cause the poor bastard has a bad case of PTSD. He's a good kid though, yeah..? I just don't know if you realise how young you are compared to the rest of my team..."

Ro Retna shrugged her shoulders. "You've got be physically fit and there is a lot of training to go through, but get through that and survive your eight year tour, you're in. It's the surviving the eight year tour that's difficult, not the getting in to the bloody service, yeah..?"

Ro Retna was reclining against the back of a chair whilst perusing the latest case file she had been handed -- a murdered soldier had been found on the outskirts of Wing City, stripped of his medals and wearing only a ripped ceremonial uniform without his boots. Iante had estimated the time of death to be between forty and fifty hours prior to the discovery of the corpse, and the cause of death was, the post-mortem diagnostician had informed her with no small amount of certainty, due to a professionally carried out slit throat.

The only thing that bothered Romanae was the lack of blood. Sure, it doused the torso of the dead man's uniform, and there were small trails of it leading from his nostrils and his mouth, but there was none on the ground, yet rigor mortis suggested that the body had not been moved. Which, of course, begged the question as to where all the blood had gone...

Ro Retna replaced the file upon the table. That had to have been the seventh or eighth time that the Senior Agent had picked up the damned thing only to put it down with the same amount of information as the previous time.

It just didn't quite make sense... If the body had been moved, Iante would have been able to tell her... So where had the blood that would have run from the man's neck gone? It can't all have seeped into his shirt, she'd had Clowes check the number of centilitres in the shirt and compared it to how much he estimated the man would have lost.

The result was that they were missing a pint and a half of blood at the very minimum.

Well, that was another day at the office and another six and a half hours spent listening to two men argue who was better at solving crimes. Between just leaving mid-way through a shift to get some tea and shooting the pair in their arses, well... She was more likely to keep her job taking an hour or two off than she was committing multiple homicides.

Ro Retna reclined against the bar on her left side, cup of tea settled on a coaster beside her elbow. "Then again, sitting here maybe isn't as fun as watching Tom and Benjamin argue over the photocopier..." the SIB agent considered aloud. "Ain't the usual fair t'night..."

Ro Retna snorted into her tea at the comments she could hear. "Yep. Exactly like being in the office, listenin' to folks insult one ano'her and what not," Ro commented, eyeing the strange orb wandering about her. "Though that is pretty damn strange," the Scotswoman added.

“The next time I catch one of you half-witted idiots waving your fucking guns at one another, I’ll take them both away from you and kill you with them!”

“Yes, Ma’am,” the duo Ro was currently berating answered in unison.

“Don’t ‘yes, ma’am’ me, go do the work you should have finished this morning! And get someone to fix that motherfucking photocopier!”

The woman’s loud, obtrusive voice was heard even from outside the bar if those inside were to pay any form of attention. However, a face soon joined that voice when Special Agent Retna of the SIB strode into the bar with a creased forehead and the intent to have a soothing cup of tea before returning to her branch of the WCPD – the Special Investigations Branch.
