Description

Image

Name: Schuyler Callahan
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Race: Unknown

Physical Description: Schuyler who is unnaturally tall for her age stands at 6’0 and weighs in at 137. Her slender, tan, and toned lithe frame is in perfect shape. Long crimson red hair sweeps across her shoulders, draping down to her mid-back. Her eyes match her hair though they are a bit lighter. She generally wears whatever suits her current mood. Her footwear is a simple pair of tennis shoes that are generally rugged and worn in.

Personality Description: Schuyler has an endearing quality about her that makes her enemy forget what she truly is. It’s almost like she’s far too innocent to be living on a planet that houses some of the most dangerous individuals of all time. Despite living with a bunch of dickwads, and having to deal with ignorant people, she has managed to keep her compassionate side, which is something that has gotten her into trouble several times.

Skills, powers and abilities:

Telepathy: Schuyler has the ability not only to connect mentally with others, but the dead as well. Almost like a sĂ©ance, but a hell of a lot better, she can speak to the dead no matter how long they’ve been gone.

Psychokinesis: She has the ability to throw items around, move items from one place to another, and influence objects to land in a specific area when the object is falling. More specifically, Schuyler can move anything ranging from a feather to a car without having to put her hands on it. Whether or not she can move something larger such as a ship or a planet isn’t known because she has never tried. If something is falling towards her or being shot towards her, Schuyler can change the trajectory so it misses her.

Summoning: Schuyler can summon ethereal creatures to her side. They come in several different forms and she can control them with just a thought. Whether or not they feel like behaving, she can get them to do tasks and if necessary, take out any threats. They only answer to her and no one else can control them no matter how powerful. When she and her brother were taken from their family by the Aschen and kept apart for months, the creatures became her companions and kept her from completely forgetting who she was even with the physical, psychological, and emotional abuse.

Catapsi: Catapsi allows a trained psychic mind to broadcast passive telepathic static across wide distances. This telepathic static makes it impossible to read auras in the area of effect and as such it is impossible to determine relative levels of power through psychic, magical, or technological means. In addition, those affected by the Catapsi field find their sense of right and wrong diminished or removed entirely, their inhibitions shattered, and their mind highly susceptible to lies and half-truths so long as they originate from the source of the field. Even those with highly structured minds normally immune to psychic interference or those with no conventional mind at all, such as androids, are not safe from the field's effects, though a Psion of sufficient skill can exclude whomever he or she wishes. In short, anyone subjected to the Catapsi field is sure to have their mental defenses eroded away and become pliable to the will of the Cultist.

Character Equipment:

Four gunlike weapons. The GodKiller, Death Penalty, The Executioner, and PewPewPew. Each of these has their own special attributes that help her fight against the monsters, gods, creatures, and anything else that decides to attack her. The Godkiller is by far the largest weapon she carries on her body and it is especially useful on godlike things.

6 ft bullwhip is hooked into the shoulder harness, most of it resting tightly against her back.

6 - silver-plated throwing knives are sporadically placed on her body. These knives are not made of normal material and though the handles are silver plated, the actual blades are made of a magical material that not only gives them a fire-like glow, but allows the blades to dissipate whenever they're not being utilized. The blades can cut through most material that can be found on Tarsus, which makes them really handy to keep around.

Short Swords: Schuyler has armed herself with a pair of short swords that strap onto her forearms. There is nothing special thing about these swords other than being very sharp.

Character History: So very classified.

So begins...

Kianna mused over the matter. She would need to file a report to send back to Langara, and to Raphael as well, but that could wait. She wanted to understand these people better before she sent word back to the Emperor. It would better avoid any... misunderstandings.

"I'm keen to know more of where it is you're from, and what it is that brought you here to our doorstep," Kianna continued.

Her eyes glanced over the med bay briefly.

"I would invite you aboard my ship," she offered. "Accommodations can be made for you - and your men if necessary - and your wounded can be transported to our medical facilities as soon as is able. We can discuss this in further detail, somewhere more... comfortable."

"Humans," Kaz says, mulling the word over- pronouncing it more or less accurately. "I see. It is good to hear that you are generally accepting of people's differences. Unfortunately, it is the opposing sentiment that has put us in this position."

Giving his full attention to Kianna, he ponders briefly her words- and what meanings there may be behind those words. "I can provide what information I can- speaking on behalf of the crew as Third Officer." He looks towards Fe, who nods slightly in response.

Schuyler's probing would probably not reveal much from the dead- disappointment, anger, despair, the usual feelings associated with dying before one's time. Fe, however, would be providing a large source of interference for the Psionic- not enough to really disrupt her abilities, but perhaps something akin to over-charging her senses.

"Lieutenant Jones cannot leave our wounded until medical equipment is brought to bear, and she may want to stay with them further, but bear in mind that as second in command once she is in full control of her facilities she may wish to take over my current position as impromptu diplomat."

Once back aboard the Kobol's Gleaming, Kianna had excused herself momentarily to see the arrangements to have Kaz's wounded transferred to her medical facilities as soon as it was safe enough to move them. She hadn't gone alone though, and had in fact instructed Schuyler to accompany her so that they might speak while Zaria saw to their guest.

"Did you pick up anything of interest off them while we were aboard their ship?" Kianna asked.

Frowning in obvious disappointment at what she was finding out, Schuyler tuned out the conversation, finding it difficult to do what should have come naturally to her. The only emotions thus far she had uncovered was disappointment, anger, despair and maybe fear, but she wasn’t sure. Clenching her jaw, she tried to focus on spreading out her telepathy, possibly even to those that weren’t deceased, but as she explored, she ended up careening
mentally of course, into something that reminded her of an old fashion snowy television that was trying to get a single channel, but couldn’t because of the weather outside or whatever it was that caused interference for the boob tube.

She couldn’t help but stumble backwards when her telepathic abilities seemed to do something they hadn’t done in some time – they became overly stimulated almost to the point that she had to immediately stop doing what she was doing to keep a massive migraine from becoming prevalent, like what used to happen. Even though the interference was only instantaneously and stopped as soon as she stopped using her ability, it still irked her. She figured that her telepathy began to overwork itself to try to get beyond or maybe even around the interference, which is why it became overstimulated. Tightening her fingers into dual fists, she glanced around at the others hoping no one saw or felt what happened, though she kept her mouth closed and her face otherwise blank of all other emotions.

“Tch
” Stepping back beside Cal, she kicked him in the ankle, shooting him a look before returning her attention towards everyone else.

Glad that they were returning to the Kabol’s Gleaming, Schuyler wanted nothing more than to go to their quarters so she could talk privately with Cal, but unfortunately, Kianna had other ideas. Sighing lightly, she kept silent until she was alone with Kianna.

“
Not really. Nothing of use from the dead, though there was a bit of interference when I attempted to go beyond just poking around the corpses, but it might not have been anything to worry about. I will continue to explore if you want though.”

Kianna listened as they walked before offering her reply.

"When I talk with them again, I want you to be as observant as you can. If they're hiding anything, lying, or planning anything, I want to know about it before it happens. We're out here alone, and we don't know these people," she explained. "The sooner we move on the better, before any Avaeon ships happen on our position."

Stretching out her arms above her head as they walked, Schuyler eased the tension out of her shoulders. She wasn’t sure if Kianna was disappointed in her or not, but even if the woman was, she wasn’t going to just come out and say it. So, she kept her mouth closed and listened to her new orders, nodding with a slight yawn.

“Understood,” Schuyler responded with a short and to the point word, something that she was known for. Shifting a little, she wondered if there would be anymore talking at the moment or if they would wait until the others were situated. Well, if Kianna wanted to know before something happened, then they would probably go talk to them immediately. So much for talking with Cal.

“I assume, you will be speaking with them immediately, or will you allow them to get acclimated to things?”

"We'll be going to speak with them momentarily. The longer we're out here, the more likely someone will happen across our ship," she explained.

She paused to pick up one of the comm devices situated within the hall.

"Have Cal sent back aboard the ship," she spoke into the device. "Tell him to look into a possible psionic disturbance in the med bay. If they have a way of disrupting our psionics, I want to know about it. Tell him to be discreet."

The group had reconvened in the messdeck of the Kobol's Gleaming, and the marines had for the most part been dispersed. Only a single pair kept vigil just outside of the messdeck hatch, primarily to keep others out rather than out of any concern regarding those within.

Both Zaria and Schuyler had been permitted attendance, but all in all the situation had taken on a lighter and more personable note without a dozen armed marines breathing down everyone's necks.

Kianna sat at the head of the table, across from the seat that had been offered to Kaz, and she had one leg lightly folded over the other, as she sat almost languidly within her chair. She maintained that same casual look she had aboard Kaz's own ship; one of amiable curiosity, paired with an observant eye.

"My doctors assure me that your wounded will be able to be transported to our infirmary here aboard the Kobol's Gleaming within the hour. The full extent of my facilities will be made available to them," Kianna informed Kaz. "But in the meanwhile, there's other mattes of concern. The damages to your ship are extensive, and both your men and mine are very vulnerable out here if any Avaeon vessels happen upon us. I want to focus on getting your ftl systems limping so we can jump to Cryo. It's the nearest habitable planet in this sector, and it will be safer than being out here on our own. Any extensive repairs to your ship can be arranged once we arrive."

Throughout the brief journey through the Kobol's Gleaming, Kaz had been peering around curiously- but clearly more focused on being presentable and professional than gawking at unfamiliar technologies. The ship was by far much larger than his own, and so there was much more to see.

Kaz sat with an air of authority about his person, befitting him being the highest ranking officer present to represent his vessel.

"I am pleased to hear that my people will be taken care of. You and your crew have been very hospitable, to which I am appreciative." Kaz bows his head respectfully for a moment before continuing. "The design of the Void Wanderer is such that she should still be capable of a Warp jump, if only barely- the problem being that, as per our last report, we were leaking fuel and our navigations data is both destroyed and quite possibly useless here- if it is as I expect and this is entirely unexplored territory for my people."

Rubbing his chin ponderously, Kaz looks around the mess hall briefly before looking back at Kianna. "We can jury rig something to read local coordinates, I dare say, but that will likely take time- judging by how distant this sector may well be to ours, and how the remains of our computer would read said coordinates."

With that however, he shrugs. "But that is all speculation on my part. I'm just the Pilot, not an Engineer. What did you have in mind?"

Schuyler just nodded at the explanation, still a little irritated at whatever had caused the interference. Her irritation intensified slightly when Cal was sent back onto the other ship. Well, that was fine, he could figure out what had messed her up and she would remain with Kianna to mentally probe some living brains. Living people were so much more interesting than dead folks anyways, so maybe she could still find something valuable out. If not, well, they obviously aren’t hiding anything, because not much gets past her skills.

At least I don’t sense any maliciousness from them, so that’s good and they don’t appear to be stalling, so that’s good too. Keeping her thoughts to herself, Schuyler headed to messdeck with Kianna.

Taking an empty seat, Schulyer pressed her back into the chair, her posture as perfect as it could be considering what she was sitting in. One long leg crossed over the other and she soon found her hands resting loosely in her lap. She was as comfortable as she could be despite the circumstances and to anyone in the room that didn’t know her, it would only seem that she was only there for support. That was exactly how she liked it. Truthfully, she didn’t like meetings and would often try to skip out on them, but this time it was important. She was to observe the strangers and make sure that everything was copasetic.

It didn’t take her long to focus in on Kaz and she let Kianna’s voice drift into her subconscious as she began to observe the male. He seemed very appreciative that his crew were being taken care of and that the crew of the Kabol’s Gleaming were willing to help fix up their ship. From what she could tell, he was being completely honest in what he was saying and that they really didn’t know where they were at. Was he also maybe a little scared? Yeah, she was pretty sure that he was frightened although he was doing a swell job at hiding it. Moving a hand up towards one of her long locks, she idly messed with it, this seeming to enable her to concentrate more than before.

Casually lounging in a seat, Zaria thought along the issues of enacting the crippled ship's jump, her expression thoughtful. Closing her eyes, she tilted her head, contemplating. After a moment, she opened them, glancing at Kaz. "Would it be possible to hardline a communications receiver directly into your ship's navigation system, assuming they remain intact enough to do so?"

Shifting to Kianna, the woman posed her possible idea. "If it's possible, we could use a hardlined comm system to transmit coordinates directly from the Kobold's navigations into the Void's. Might be the fastest option we have, rigging cables into the input system to a unit, then sending the data packet. The trickiest part would be coordinating the jumps to come out close enough to catch the Void Wanderer before she drifts, or any pirates looks at her for salvage."

Kianna listened thoughtfully as Kaz further explained the situation he and his men currently found themselves in, and as Zaria offered a possible solution.

"It sounds like getting your ship to Cryo will be a simple enough matter, relatively speaking. Getting you back home might prove more difficult. We might be able to get you a bearing, based off similar star patterns and planetary alignments found within our own systems, but there's a great deal of uncharted territory out there beyond our borders."

Kianna leaned back in her chair as she studied Kaz a time before continuing.

"There's another matter of some concern that should probably be addressed as well. What is the likelyhood that others will pursue you here. Either friends or enemies."

After listening to the responses, Kaz nods and addresses Kianna first.

"Getting to Planet Cryo should not be difficult past the initial engineering, but I think your team and our Armature should be able to cooperate well enough to do that. Getting us back home... I do not know how simple or difficult that will be until we take our first attempt at it."

"As for the likelihood of being followed..." He frowns slightly at the thought. "Warp tracking is an imperfect science. Normally the only effective means of tracking is via hacking into the computer network to determine coordinates before the opposing ship has launched." He quirks a slight smile, implying confidence in his survival. "We made a blind jump- meaning that, as the Pilot, I basically had to eyeball a section of space that looked relatively clear and plow through the Warp until we stopped or hit something."

Regaining his cool composure, Kaz continues. "With that in mind- having not used a computer for the jump, and having had a very slim chance of survival, if anyone could possibly track us it would be our enemies. Our fleet was in the process of being systematically dismantled when we were given the order to retreat, and I am airing on the side of caution when I say that our ship was the only survivor."

"If we were to have been tracked, I doubt they would send a large fleet or even valuable ships, and the chances of them ending up anywhere near us are astronomical. And, with that said... I would recommend preparing for the worst all the same."

Taking a moment to think, Kaz shrinks himself back into his seat and peers around at the faces around him.

Kianna mused. If even the faintest chance existed that these people, or their enemies, might show up and pose a threat to the Empire, she would need to inform Mollem, and Raphael as well. The thought brought a frown to her lips, seeing as the pair of them were apt to being overzealous, but she didn't care for the gamble that they might be blind-sided.

"Perhaps you could aid us in preparing for the chance that they do arrive," Kianna answered finally. "Any information you have on these people, their weapons, their ships, their military tactics... It would be best if we knew what we might be contending with before they appear in our back yard. I'm going to have to ask into some delicate information, but I can't risk being blind-sided by entering into a situation without being fully informed. What started this war between your people, and these enemies of yours?"

Delicate was right, as far as Kaz was concerned, but it was obvious to him by now that this was still a meeting between two very different factions, and that the information was bound to come into the open sooner or later.

"Well, the exact reason we're not entirely sure. The reason the Aramaeans gave us was that of racial supremacy. That they are the superior race and that everything belongs to them," Kaz explains with a slight twinge of bitterness. "We Lirans had it easier than others, with the Aramaeans actually 'accepting' us into the fold. Others- the Zenids, like Fe, and other species within the Federation, are at best treated like animals or tools- and at worst, tortured or executed."

"There are theories of course," he says, sighing slightly. "Resource shortages in Aramaean space being the most believable. Another is that they are instigating this war for some reason to better their chances against the Wrakin." Kaz visibly shudders at the word, and then looks around at the others as if a light was flicked on in his head.

"The Wrakin. I had almost forgotten about them. They are likely to be the most dangerous foe that could come from our sector- because they are not from there. It is a race of bio-organic weapons that began tearing through our space several decades ago. No-one knows what name they have for themselves, if anything, or if they even have a true sentience."

Kaz then pauses, shaking his head. "In any case, I am getting off topic. I.. don't suppose you have heard the description of the Wrakin here in your known sectors?"

Schuyler shifted her attention towards the ceiling, studying the different patterns on it. Even though she was no longer watching the others, she was still very focused in on what Kaz was saying. She was doing exactly what Kianna asked of her, but she found all the engineering talk rather boring. That wasn’t her specialty and she didn’t really care about it. In fact, she really wished she could be anywhere but this room, but that wasn’t possible. Wondering how Cal was doing, Schu’ soon found herself day-dreaming about their childhood, wishing that things had turned out differently. Well, that wasn’t necessary true because being with the Special Projects Division wasn’t all that bad, aside from having to sit in lame meetings like this. Realizing she wasn’t doing what had been asked of her, she glanced down away from the ceiling just in time to hear Kaz’s explanations of what he felt started the war.

The Wrakin?

Schuyler blinked at the name, noting the reaction Kaz had after mentioning them. Clearly they were bad news and his people were probably very afraid of them. Glad that he explained to them who the Wrakin were, Schulyer listened closely, filing away the information to be explored upon later on. To her recollection, she had never heard of them before, but that didn’t mean they had explored in the sectors around here. He wasn’t holding back any information, but he wasn’t necessarily being incredibly helpful either. Shifting her attention towards Kiana, the redhead kept her thoughts to herself.

"I'm not familiar with the name, no," Kianna replied.

There were too many known lifeforms that could fit Kaz's vague description, and numerous more likely that they hadn't ever encountered before.

"We have little knowledge of the Aurora, beyond the Isirian borders. But if these Wrakin come from beyond the Aurora, it's possible we may know of them by a different name. What can you tell me of them?" Kianna inquired.

Truth be told Kianna found the conversation a bit droll, but necessary. Schuyler however drew a faint frown to Kianna's lips. Six months of extensive training to have the girl daydreaming on duty was a bit disconcerting. She only hoped she was more alert internally than she appeared to be externally.

"Well," Kaz begins, looking between the three of them. "The Wrakin were discovered roughly fifty years ago- but they may have been in our sectors long before that. They are a species of organisms that, while they seem to be completely lacking in sentience, still managed to infiltrate several of our planets and begin spreading."

"They infect individuals, in a fashion that appears to be generational- rather, the offspring become more and more... twisted, alien. Once there are enough of them, they strike." He grimaces. "And then there are the fleets of them. Massive hives that descend on a planet and... devour it. All life simply gone in a matter of days."

"At first we did not think they would be a major threat, that a few picket ships would be able to wipe out the fleet- but they have weapons, too. Organic projectiles that rip and tear through flesh and armor alike. Beyond that even, they can, when so inclined, even take over our fleets. How exactly we do not know, but we have seen the remains of our people on some of their ships, infected beyond salvation."

"Worse yet, it even effects our cloning arrays, so a killed soldier who is regenerated on his ship- or worse, back home- is suddenly a mindless killer. Even the Aramaean mind control technologies cannot bring them back to sanity."

He clears his throat slightly. "In any case, that is about all I can tell you about them. We don't know if they have a motive, or where they came from, but they are incredibly dangerous."

As soon as Kaz began to truly describe the Wrakin, Schuyler’s full attention was on him. As he spoke, she was listening not just with her ears, but with her telepathic ability as well. From what he was describing, the Isirian was fairly certain that they were a species that she never wanted to have a run in with. They sounded worse than anything she could imagine and for a brief minute, Schuyler had to completely block everything out just to concentrate on Kaz, her mind being a dick to her like usual. He definitely wasn’t holding anything back from them concerning the Wrakin and she once again glanced over at Kiana, though her visage was blank as a new page of paper.

Are we even prepared to deal with something like them
? Her fingers drummed against her thigh and she shifted her attention back to Kaz as he finished up telling them all he knew.

“Hnn
” That was about all she could say right at that moment. She wasn’t in the meeting to be a speaker. No, she was there to listen.

Kianna had heard mention of similar... plagues? Plagues was an apt word she decided. Creatures like the Wrakin were more like locusts than an opponent that can be reasoned with. They were certainly not something she was personally adept at contending with. Kianna more often waged war through words than with guns, but then again that was what the military was for. She reviled her husband's approach of taking a hammer - or worse - to every problem. But she could relent that in some instances, military force was the appropriate course of action.

She frowned thoughtfully.

She had enough information to know that they could sit and talk for hours and not achieve any real substantial progress. She had enough though to make a preliminary report, and with the Avaeon a more immediate threat, Mollem would likely be receptive to her guidance regarding these foreigners.

"I get the sense that there is a lot to be discussed between us, and I'm sure you and your people have just as many questions as myself. I also get the sense of urgency regarding these matters though, and I wouldn't want to delay your return out of personal curiosity," Kianna mused. "I want to make a request, but first I should probably explain to you that I may not have been entirely forthright in my earlier introduction," she continued with almost apologetically. "My husband, Mollem McGregor, is the Emperor of the Aschen people. I'm sure you can understand why I aired on the side of discretion."

She folded her hands under her chin as she watched Kaz thoughtfully.

"You've been more than accommodating of my inquiries, and I would afford you the same gesture. And if we can get you on your way, I would like to send some of my people back with you. Our crossing paths may have been an act of chance, but there's no need to squander new opportunities. There's much to learn about one another though - far more than can be explored in the short time we have."

It might seem that Kaz had become slightly discomforted being focused on so heavily by Schuyler, but he also seemed to understand the significance of that to some degree and maintained his composure and professional attitude.

Kianna's reveal pertaining to her status did come as something of a shock to Kaz, judging by the brief flicker of surprise that crossed his face. He was not quite sure if he should believe it, but then, for all he knew these Aschen had nothing more than a small system nearby. He would reserve judgement for later.

"My lady," he says respectfully, bowing his head in full respect to her position as Empress. "I understand." He seemed slightly lost for words all the same.

"Given your status- and my position as a simple pilot- I may suggest that my Captain, and his first mate, be invited to join these talks once they are well. In fact given our limited size maybe the whole crew would be invited, but I leave that to your discretion. I would not want to go over the Captain's head at least. I would like to remain in the talks as well, by your leave."

"Though, if it were up to me and me alone, I would accept your offer of assistance- bringing a survey team- once we are capable of returning home."
