Not a word passed between them, but within a few moments of her sitting, a bottle of particularly old wine was set in front of Selmaina. She glanced down at it, nodded, and silently paid the bartender for his trouble. They didn't really have much of a relationship other than this small exchange, but that was the way she preferred it.

There was little ceremony in the way she drank, and it was almost uncivilized in a way that did not befit her exceedingly poised demeanor. She fixed her teeth into the cork, wrenched it free, spat it onto the floor and immediately took a long drought straight from the bottle's cold lips. The aged liquid was poured down her throat with the eagerness that only clung to those who were thirsty to the point of dehydration. Half the bottle was gone before she finally put it down and began her slow observation of the room. Empty tonight, wasn't it?

As she watched from her corner, scents brushed against her nose, a potpourri of unseen colors whispering secrets about all who sat around them, all together in the strange mix that always hovered over Gambit's. The tiniest smile quirked up the corner of her mouth at the repetitiveness of it all.

She sighed and took another pull from her bottle, leaning back in her chair to break the stiff-backed pose she'd held before. It was going to be a long, quiet night from what she could see, may as well settle in for it. Her expression took on a look that belonged on a statue, cold, unfeeling, blank. The cruelly beautiful face looked even harsher as she descended further into thought. It was inevitable of course, since she hadn't initiated conversation there was really not much else to do besides think.

Selmaina placed one hand warily on the entrance to the bar, her fingers pausing as they traced over every imperfection in the woodwork. This place was new, something she was accustomed to, but for some reason hesitation had settled in her chest. Her brows pulled together on her smooth forehead. There was no reason for this apprehension, not when it was just another bar. Just another place.

With a shake of her head, she pushed open the door and stepped inside, the heel of her shoe clacking ominously over the threshold. It was an imposing figure she cut as she made her way to an empty seat, tall, clothed entirely in black, with an air about her that befitted only the deadliest of predators. The way she moved was strangely graceful and feline, looking almost as though she was prowling rather than simply walking. Wolfish yellow eyes glinted as they scanned the room, looking fiercely intelligent and perfectly suited to her wild, inhuman beauty. No matter how much she tried, she certainly could not look like an ordinary patron.

Seemed as though there was a large population of soldiers this time, not something that particularly worried her, but it did send little sparks of irritation snaking down her spine. Things always seemed to happen when they were around, fights broke out, tempers rose, it had been a while since she'd let go of her own temper and she much preferred to keep it that way.

One hand reached up to snake through her spilled-ink hair, nails grinding against her scalp. Despite her slight anxiety, there certainly was no reason she couldn't sit back and have herself a drink. She raised a finger, and almost immediately a waitress appeared at her side with a bottle of her favorite wine. Selmaina chuckled as she sank her teeth into the cork and plucked it out, spitting it onto the floor without the slightest concern for her own rudeness. It always amazed her that they had so many bottles of this stuff. Normally anything before the late eighteen-hundreds was well out of stock, but Gambit's always had a ready supply for her thirst.

Almost delicately, she placed the bottle against her lips and tilted some of the fluid down her itching throat. It didn't quite soothe the burn, but it at least put a sticky coating over it so the irritation wasn't quite as noticeable. One drink finished, she took a glance around the bar again, her nostrils open as she took in the familiar scent of spilled alcohol, cigarettes, and unwashed human.

One brow arched on Selmaina's forehead as she noted Darius' choice of location. It didn't bother her, not it the slightest. Everyone had a right to sit where they chose after all, but it was definitely a first. The darkness that seemed to cling to every fiber of her clothing stirred and writhed at her curiosity, though her face remained a stone mask of impartial boredom.

She took another sip, her dark painted lips matching the wine that slipped past them. When it came down to her interests, she certainly didn't bother with subtlety, and she openly observed Darius through her black-rimmed, sharp, yellow eyes.

Selmaina quirked one shoulder up, a half-shrug. Well why not? She rose from her seat so quickly it almost looked as though she had sprouted from the ground like some kind of bar-flower. But, a blink and a shake of the head would let anyone pass it off as a trick of the light.

It had been a while since she'd had the pleasure, or displeasure, of anyone's company, so she couldn't help but feel the slightest bit of excitement for the opportunity. As she sat, she arranged the tails of her trench coat in a pool around her and placed her half-drained bottle on the tabletop. When she spoke, her volume remained steady and her voice poured across the air like liquid molasses. It was a rich, musical tenor, darker and set at a lower tone than most females. Not manly, but mysterious and wickedly enchanting with the slightest hint of a Slavic accent.

"It's not so much that I've taken an interest in you, more an interest in your choice of seating. It's very rare that anyone decides to put themselves in such close proximity to me." The shadows that had followed her from the corner stirred as the corner of her mouth tipped upwards into a half-smile, "Apparently I put off an air that isn't quite friendly."

She smirked, her nostrils twitching at the scent of his beverage, "I'm sure your choice of drink might help with that decision a bit as well, wouldn't you say?" The wolfish yellow-gold of her own gaze met his, unblinking. She could almost pluck at the tension snapping between them, though she couldn't quite figure out why. "I prefer to keep myself something of an anomaly." She wrapped her long, caramel-colored fingers around the neck of her bottle and took another long sip. There was something darkly different about Darius, and for some reason she didn't like the way he looked at her.

Selmaina chuckled, dragging her finger along the length of the bottle, tracing it from neck to bottom absently as she watched him. Every so often her nose would twitch at the scent of a newcomer stinking up the bar with their presence, but her focus and keen analysis of her companion did not waver. For certain he was quite old, no newborn was this composed, or well-spoken for that matter. Yet he retained a kind of youthful playfulness that, she admitted, came off as rather endearing.

"Well they do have one of the strongest survival instincts I've ever come across, in any species both sentient and dumb." She watched the last of his drink disappear and looked at one of the servers, giving the slightest tilt of her head to indicate that more blood should be brought. It was there in a matter of moments and Selmaina pushed the glass towards him, the crystal scraping softly against the table's smooth surface. "Mystery is what makes someone initially interesting, after that it's exploring the inner workings of their psyche and history. I prefer to stay away from getting that close."

An innocent enough question, but one that was surprisingly difficult to answer. Her lips pursed as she tapped a finger against them, a moment passing before she had decided on her response. "I was born in northern Canada, and spent most of my childhood in Romania. Though once I got a bit older I decided to head back overseas."

The last drop had just barely ran down her throat when another bottle appeared at her side. She smiled again, marveling at the swiftness and perception of the servers here. "Lately I've been living in Moscow. I'm well suited to Russia's climate and general...feel of things."

There was a visible flare in Selmaina's general darkness as he mentioned vacationing in Romania. She could keep herself flat for many things, but she could not help her hatred for that place. Her fingers slipped down and tapped the outside of her coat's deep pocket, feeling relief at the slight crinkle her touch was met with. Her statuesque expression allowed for a polite smile, "It's different that I meet someone who's well-traveled, and even rarer that I meet someone from Sweden. Very intriguing."

Such a trait was slightly dangerous. Yes it was unlikely that he'd heard of her, but she couldn't really be too careful. "It's calmed down quite a bit from what it was before. Much more a place of beauty and refinement, though the government is still working out a few quirks here and there."

Grateful for a subject change, she tilted her head, the crystalline hum ringing in her remarkably well-tuned ears. One of them twitched. It sounded just like...no answer the question.

"No, I'm afraid I haven't. I've kept most of my European travels to Russia and westerly quarter. What keeps you from going there for yourself?"

Her eyes narrowed, seemed she wasn't the only one with negative history attached to a certain location. She made a quick note at the smell of business that wafted through the door. Oo, and complete with bodyguard. Her tongue ran over her lips as she watched the apparent 'Minister' make her way to the bar.

"I'm sorry to hear that, but our strength is measured only by how we emerge after life's trials. It seems you've proven your strength." Too bad she herself was still not quite what one would call sophisticated. Wildness snapped around her like an angry wind. Though she remained composed and her words seemed full of etiquette and refinement, something animal and snarling always hovered just below her polite exterior. "Hm, what is it that you do in Wing City?"

She laughed, reaching over to take another drink from her bottle. "That's something of an understatement. Honestly I can't think of a species that hasn't made its way through Wing City. Not to mention there's been an explosion of the vampiric population in the last several years. Makes me wonder what all of the old ones are up to." One Ancient in particular, but she wouldn't bother herself with that.

"I actually wasn't aware there was any competition for blood distribution. I'm afraid I don't really keep up with such things. I'll admit I'm curious as to how and who was expunged." She leaned forward, placing her chin on her open palm. This man was truly fascinating, and delving into his personal life was proving to be a stimulating experience.

"You don't need to sugar-coat anything. I'm well aware that assassination and intimidation has a well kept seat in the underworld of business." She smiled, watching him down the blood almost as a crocodile watches the zebras drink from below the water's surface.

"The vampire community has always been fond of its secrets, and rightfully so, but it seems the secret has long since been exposed," she waved a hand to indicate the patrons around them, "I doubt there's anyone in this bar who's never heard of a vampire or isn't aware of their existence. I daresay most of them have had close encounters with one or more."

"Now," the darkness around her stirred again, leaping up to hang and drift from her shoulders as her curiosity was once again prominent, "explain to me how 'blood-running' works. Is it a secretive distribution, sort of a home delivery thing, or do you have facilities that are known only to the vampiric public?"

She too had noticed the sirens, and she barely flinched as everything sprung into action. It wasn't her first rodeo, not by a long shot. Gambit's was merely living up to its somewhat dangerous and excitable reputation. However, as Alucard's presence was made known, a dark and angry chill shot down her spine. There was something not right about him. Something she found to be extremely...unsettling.

"Understandable. Obviously I think it's wise to keep things that way. There's no use letting humans meddle in affairs they know absolutely nothing about. It's beyond impractical. But that sounds like a lovely little system." Only the tiniest note of strain had made its way into Selmaina's hypnotically musical voice. She couldn't shake it. This apprehension, this twinging sense that she should leave immediately. Reflexively, her hand went to her pocket, fondling the aged parchment that lay safely tucked away.

A coy smile turned up one side of her mouth, "Well I've been around. Vampires are in and out of my life more than the average citizen." As he acknowledged Alucard, her hands folded in front of her, tightening until the bronze knuckles flared white.

"But as far as my life goes, I run a tattoo shop in Moscow. I was always particularly good at the artistic side of things, and I finally found a way to make it constructive. Besides, I enjoy the wide range of clientele that makes its way through my doors. Keeps things very interesting."
