History

Spheera is an arctic breed of white wolf, having originated from the Cold Planes of the Multiverse in a small, struggling pack. At a young age for a wolf, she was engaged in a fight for alpha-female, and was unfortunately beaten. She was ousted from the pack, immediately set off on her own. She spent some months on her own before coming upon another pack of white wolves, and she managed to get herself accepted into this new pack as one of the primary hunters. Though she was not an alpha, she ended up finding a mate and birthing a single pup outside of the knowledge of the pack leaders.

Remaining a primary hunter for the pack and now her young pup, it was about six months later that Spheera ventured farther south in the Cold Plains to hunt, and befell an unfortunate fate. Illegal poachers had been travelling the north in search of seals and other animals to kill. Their intent was to use the meats for food and money sources, and sell the skins and pelts for top dollar to private, illegal buyers. A tranquilizer dart from seemingly nowhere deemed Spheera unconscious, and landed her in a small cage in some sort of cramped shed just west of the Wing City Gardens. A tag had been haphazardly pierced through her ear and her hind left and fore right legs were sore and injured. Some two days later, one of the poachers appeared to unlock the cage and prepare to 'handle' her, but she'd luckily managed to defend herself and escape.

Spheera lifted her head, her nostrils flaring as she eagerly sniffed the meat that Lena was offering to her. Her ears lifted straight up as she listened to what the woman was saying. Clean the wound, clean it, now that made sense. After all, in packs other wolves helped clean wounds that they could not reach themselves; it wasn't entirely unnatural.

Lifting her head, she nosed at Lena's knee, her eyes meeting the young woman's with patience and eagerness as her ears twitched. Her tongue flicked across the upper half of her jaw, and her nostrils flared as she sniffed at the meat.

Spheera gently gripped the chunk of meat between her jaws, grinding contentedly as she felt Lena's fingers gently touching her fur. The feeling wasn't entirely unwelcome, and, in fact, it was a bit calming, comforting even. The taste that flooded her mouth mixed with the sudden scent of alcohol, driving her eyes to squint as she lifted her gaze to Lena and placed her steak between her paws.

Oh, she'd thought that thing had hurt before; how wrong she had been. Opening her mouth, the meat sat between her paws as she lifted her head and cocked it the opposite direction of the alcohol tinged rag, a loud howl of a yelp climbing from the wolf's throat and filling the air. She whined then, staring at Lena with wide, blue eyes.

Spheera pricked her ears as Lena withdrew her hand and Jaryd yelled out from the kitchen. Her head twisted somewhat in the direction that Lena looked, eyes watching the woman's movements carefully. When Lena looked back in her direction, Spheera looked into the woman's eyes, searching them carefully as she listened to what the young woman said. Hurt. Hurt she'd mumbled. Who was hurt? The man that had given her that fist chunk of meat?

Her confusion melted when Lena touched that forsaken cloth to her ear again, but the woman's free hand prevented her from being able to jerk her head away, and she whined quietly as her eyes squinted. She'd all but forgotten the bit of steak that was pressed between her front paws.

Eyeing Lena curiously, Spheera watched as the woman petted her head and said something that didn't quite make sense, save for her name, or, at least the name she'd remembered those poachers and some other human calling her. It was strange, nothing like other human names she had heard, but how was she to deny or accept it?

When Lena set the second chunk of steak down, Spheera bent her head and eagerly began gnawing at it, content with the fact that this human was at least feeding her despite rubbing that wretched thing all over her ear. Her eyes closed, paws pressing together tightly as she chewed and pulled at the meat, and within a few moments of Lena's absence, she'd finished off the largest chunk. The first steak she'd been given, now half eaten, Spheera ignored, instead lifting her head to look around and try to spot where her new friend had gone. She heard Lena's voice, and slowly pushed herself to her feet, carefully sniffing the air as she padded towards the kitchen.

Eyeing the strange creature that Lena had settled herself close to, the wolf lifted her nose, her eyes squinting as she sniffed at it. Interesting, even its scent was strange and unknown to her. That nice man was standing though, close enough to Lena, and she figured that the two, at least for the time being, were not involved in anything malicious- not towards her, at least.

Noticing Lena's hand, Spheera's ears pricked up, eyes lifting toward the woman's briefly before she continued to slowly pad in that direction. Her gaze traveled along Templewick's body, the strange creatures hands and face next, and then sat on her haunches beside Lena's bar-stool, lifting her face so she could more easily look up at her new friend.

Spheera kept her ears pricked as she listened to the conversation taking place, and though she was trying to keep a defensive eye on the strange creature and a protective one on Jaryd and Lena, she found herself squinting her eyes closed contentedly as the woman gently petted her between the ears. So that's why dogs liked humans so much, those fingers were able to get to hard-to-reach spots and tackle any discomforts or itches, not to mention it did feel about as good as licking a dirty paw clean.

The smell of the alcohol from the counter above wafted through her moist nose, causing her nostrils to flare as she cocked her head and sneezed sideways. Such a wretched smell. How on earth could humans and strange creatures alike put that liquid into their bodies? Didn't they realize how horrid it seemed?

Spheera licked her upper lip, shaking her head to re-settle her fur before she lent back towards Lena's hand and stool. The conversation these humans were having made very little sense, but what did she particularly care? For the time being, she was being at least minutely looked after by a human rather than chased after or hunted. Hunted... poachers... she still couldn't quite fathom what on earth those crazy men had wanted her for or why they'd even picked her at all. There were plenty of other animals that were more worth the time, like lemmings. Lemmmings... she missed the Cold Plains something awful. But home was a long ways away, and getting there was more dangerous than remaining put with her new friend.

Idly, the wolf lifted her head, blue eyes keenly watching Lena and her movements. The woman seemed a bit flustered, like a lone caribou being (rationally) over-paranoid. But since Lena had tried to comfort her, Spheera wanted to offer something back, so she lifted her head higher and gently licked at the woman's palm.

Spheera having watched both her new woman and man friend disappear up the stairs, Spheera padded in a small circle at the landing, favoring her two better legs as she did so. Strange. The afternoon and evening had been strange, and yet, she'd somehow enjoyed it for the most part. These humans, she could trust them, for now...

Lifting her head, the wolf's mouth opened wide, lips pulling back to reveal clean, sharp teeth as the creatures eyes squinted closed with the yawn. She shook, resettling her fur, and then turned to look back at the bar. That strange creature her female friend had been talking to was still there, and, though he was nothing at all she was used to, she padded over and laid down beside his stool.

Spheera lifted her head against Lena's hand, her eyes closing as she nuzzled her fur into the woman's palm gently. Her friend's friend seemed a bit... off, but he'd talked about someone hurting Lena. That was her name, she'd eventually picked up. Why would anyone hurt her new friend? She seemed nice enough...

Hearing the approaching man with that strange stick, the stick Spheera did not trust, the wolf stood and quickly paced to the opposite side of Lena so as to avoid being unintentionally thwacked with that thing. Her ears pricked up, eyes lifting to glance between the three curiously.

She lifted her head, blue eyes curiously observing Lena, before she rose to stand and gently pressed her 'chin' to the top of the woman's lap. Her ear twitched, warm breath sliding through the wolf's nose slowly and calmly. Her gaze then went to Jaryd, observing the man with care. Her friends seemed to be in a different mood, something a bit on the nervous and yet relaxed and contented side. Her tail twitched.

Idly, her eyes traveled back to the strange creature that had been called Templewick, noting that his form seemed to be asleep, but that he smelled and looked unhealthy. She tilted her cheek against Lena's leg, her eyes pricking forward as she carefully watched the naga.

Spheera lifted her head, taking a few steps backward as she watched her friend rise and approach the other man. She kept her eyes on the two, her tail twitching just slightly. After a very brief moment of her own thought, she padded around the edge of Lena's stool and then sat on her haunches just behind the woman, keeping her ears perked and her head tilted curiously. Was her friend perhaps leaving? It sounded as if that was what was going on.

And what if her friend did leave? Did that mean she should leave to? Surely, even though Lena had been of help to her, the woman wouldn't want to be followed around by a wolf all evening... And on the reverse, Spheera knew better; she needed to find a spot to bed down for the night, attempt to hunt, even figure out a plan of sorts as to where to go next. And yet, her friend had helped her, and that strange creature had mentioned someone hurting Lena, she felt as is if she owed it to the woman to keep anyone from hurting her.

The crowd of the bar was starting to gather a bit too much for Spheera's tastes anyway. But it seemed that Lena and Jaryd were welcoming her to follow along behind them, and she idly trotted after, giving them their space but keeping a protective, watchful eye on them all the while- especially on Lena.

Spheera lowered on her front haunches, her lips curling to bare her teeth as a low, protective and warning growl elicited from her throat. Her blue eyes flashed, tail rigid, and she swiftly, though with a limp, brought herself to Lena's side. The white wolf locked her gaze on the man in front of her friends, watching him carefully even as he swiftly stepped away.

For Spheera, being outside was far from unnatural or unwelcome. As she'd followed Jaryd and Lena, she'd resumed a traditional sort of pace that she'd used back in the arctic- before she'd been taken, that was. Her movements were almost circular, steps moving in a wide motion to the left and up around and in front of the two, then down to the right and behind them, repeat. Having had a single pup, this was something customary for her, and it allowed better range of motion and better range of protection.

Though her steps were careful and limped, she hardly seemed to kick up any fuss about it, and when Lena suddenly stopped, the wolf stopped in front of them, her ears pricking and nostrils flaring as her eyes darted around. Smells. So many strange, unique, and yet vaguely familiar smells. The wolf's tail twitched, and she turned her head to look over at the two patiently.

Lena and Jaryd seemed to be talking among themselves, though their words didn't relate to anything that Spheera understood. There were no key words, no warning words or signals that anything might be wrong or worry-some, and their attitudes seemed to be light and relaxed. Spheera relaxed a little too, but not nearly enough to come down from her protective state. Lena was her friend, Jaryd too, and that Templewick fellow had said something about hruting Lena. Perhaps if someone wanted to hurt her, they would hurt Jaryd too, and even for a wolf, she'd been trapped among the humans long enough to learn about the words they used and the general behaviors they exhibited.

Slowly, she started to pace back and forth the width of the sidewalk, tail still and bent behind her as she watched the two disappear into the dining area, and she only dared move to the edge of the set-up location before she sat on her haunches and furtively watched them for the duration of their time. Her tail twitched every so often, her nostrils flaring too, but, for the time being, all seemed well.

The night air had cooled, allowing the arctic wolf a bit more comfort and relief from the normally warm temperatures. She'd remained at the edge of the sidewalk, eyes keenly watching her friends as she rested her chin on her front paws and curled her tail 'round her back. So curious, the strange way that they were moving, it reminded her of penguins and lemmings in mating season. Perhaps these humans were in their own mating season now?

Lifting her head, her mouth opened wide, lips pulling back as her tongue curled, and her eyes squinted shut with the yawn. She shook her head gently, spreading her front legs in front of her before she curled up a little more and resumed watching her friends.

Her ears pricked as she observed Jaryd's form, the suddenness in his stance. Spheera pushed herself to her feet, her tail still as stone as she watched the two. Was something wrong? The other people in the area didn't particularly take notice of her, and she enjoyed the lack of attention as she slowly approached the two.

Spheera hesitated at the edge of the dance area, her eyes lifting to first gaze at Lena and then to Jaryd. She was looking for approval, but she was also looking for a signal that either they were okay or something was in fact wrong. Perhaps she'd be able to help in some way, she was smart after all.

Neither of her friends were relaxing in the slightest, and even the smell that they were giving off was of discomfort and concerning. Spheera glanced around, blue eyes narrowing as her lips tightened over her teeth. Slowly, she padded closer to her friends, keeping her gaze trained between them and their surroundings. Her tail was rigid, angled downward about forty five degrees, and her claws were tense. She looked like an animal preparing to go in for an attack.

She stopped in front of them, lifting her head so she could more easily look towards their faces, waiting for them to speak so that she could listen for warning words. Her ears pricked.

The hairs on her body rose on end as she turned to face the being that Jaryd had looked to. A low, menacing growl left her throat, lips pulling back to show her teeth, eyes flashing with anger. The wolf's ears flattened against her head, body tense but prepared. Was this what that Templewick had been talking about? Was this strange being going to try to hurt her friends?

She edged a few steps ahead of Jaryd, snarling as saliva built behind her teeth. One sharp, powerful snap of her jaw, and her growl shifted to a warning bark.

The wolf held still to the place she'd been standing, her form trembling with her ferocity as she glared at this 'Thanatos'. She'd heard Lena's call, heeding it only enough to hold to her position. She'd never seen anything like this before, not with humans or other strange creatures alike. Jaryd was acting very strange, that was for certain, and his actions... well, they were unprecedented.

Her growl lowered an octave as her narrowed eyes locked onto the offender, and she lowered on her front haunches, tail twitching with preparation. That was when Jaryd turned around. A warning word! The tone in his voice was sharp, pleading even, but definitely warning. The wolf glanced to her female friend, trying to make sense of everything, and then her attention went back to Thanatos. She wasn't sure what exactly he was, but she was fairly sure that no matter what exactly, he wouldn't feel too pleasant if he were to get mauled by a wolf.
