Dark Woods

a part of The Multiverse, by Remæus.

An extension of the ancient and foreboding woods. The trail continues to wind south amid the bent and gnarled branches of the twisted trees. Along the path is a wooden arrow sign. Scrawled on the sign in a long dead and forgotten language is a single word. The soft loam has been converted to hard packed earth, the smells of the forest almost overpowering. In the distance the sounds of animals moving are heard.

Remæus holds sovereignty over Dark Woods, giving them the ability to make limited changes.

He returned a smile, it was as if his eyes were billboards. The message read "thoughtful" across them. "I figured he would be, after all.. he gave his life defending you all. Sacrifice is an action never forgotten" He said serenely. Mat nodded as he listened to Sairia.

"The forest warns us of the cabin, an omen.. very peculiar" Mat said under his breath. He watched as she tilted her head and noticed he never really left her eyesight. He began to think to himself, "I wonder, I might not be as welcomed here as I thought I was. Hopefully if I keep myself this way, I won't .. change."

Mat lifted his hands and moved them towards the flame. He was cautious not to set his long sleeves aflame. The water that drenched it assured that it wouldn't. "Thank you!" he said with a large smile. "How very thoughtful you.." He stopped midway in his sentence. Hearing something in the distance. "You are" he would finish he sentence as if he heard nothing at all.

(Sorry Shadow, for some reason I didn't see your post!)

Sairia turned to Lucario as he leaned out the door, flashing him a light smile, "This is Mat, the rain brought him, but we've decided to take our chances outside. He hasn't stepped into the cabin yet." Her deep blue eyes rested on Mat once again and she looked away, realizing she must be coming off as rude for staring at him so often. She was only weary of her situation and didn't mean any offense.

Sairia smiled to him as he warmed himself from her fire but snapped her head in the direction of a noise in the trees. Her body froze and the flames lifting from her hand started to spin in a ball form in her palm. "Your very welcome Mat." she spoke but didn't turn her attention from the trees, her eyes carefully examining everything she could see.

Mat looked over to the blue figure. "Hmm he's not human, I've seen nothing like him" he would say with a curious look on his face. " It is nice to meet you, my name is mat" he grinned.

Mat looked back to the trees, his hand on his hilt. The weapon was locked in its sheath, only to be taken out when the handle was twisted clockwise. His eyes were searching the forest. He knew that they were being watch. The question lingered in his head, persistently repeating.

who was watching them?

He moved into a defensive stance.

[ lol it's ok Sairia]

Lucario just gave a quick nod towards Mat, it was good that he didn't step inside the cabin yet, although with Sairia outside the cabin, and Lucario, they may have got the monsters attention again" Maybe you should come back in, Sairia" Lucario suggested to her. If it was that, going inside would be the only way to fix it, and the safest. But after last time, this two girls didn't seem to really care about safety.

Shenna Rai had abandoned her leaf to the table moments before Lucario stepped to the door. She finally walked over and poked her head out of the door way to see what was going on. Another person had arrived. She eyed him up and down once before tilting her head at him. He wasn't her pursuer. She smiled and said hello to him, then turned her gaze to the forest behind him.

"They didn't try to attack you?" she asked, looking back to him.

Mat looked away from the trees and to her. " They have not attacked me yet, but I fear that one is impending" He said with a grievious tone. He looked back at the forest for a quick moment before turning back.

"So your the other?" he said with a smile, "what is your name? Mine is mat."

"I am Shenna Rai," she said as she stepped up beside Lucario, not quite outside the door. Unable to extend her wings in the cabin, she settled for a small bow to him and spreading her pinions slightly, her way of greeting new people and showing respect. As she straightened back up, she looked back up at him.

"If it isn't too much prying, may I ask what has caused you to travel so late this night, Mat?"

"Nice to meet you Shenna Rai" He would say, returning a bow to her. Mat hesitated as he thought of a response.

"I was traveling to the next town to find refuge there. The one I had left has been raided. None were left alive. I managed to escape however, only due to my skill in survivability. I traveled along the road nearest to this cabin when it started to rain. I could've traveled to the next town, but I wasn't in the mood for a storm and a muddy trail. So I followed my instincts, and by some weird coincidence, was led to this cabin here." He said with composure. Mat was not entirely exhausted, but he had small fatigue from the incident at the village. " I figured a homely cabin wouldn't be any harm seeing that its in the middle of a dense forest, I guess I was wrong. These creatures that attack, I don't understand why they do. But I'm eager to find out" he added with a grin.

Sairia smiled to her friends as they came out to greet Mat and leaned against the wall facing all of them near the door. Her eyes would glance back and forth quickly, keeping an eye on the tree line and around them but making sure to not be rude to the others by showing interest in their conversation. She nodded to Lucario when he spoke about getting back inside but she had no intention of doing so. As a witch she could sense the curse placed on the cabin and would stay outside until she could figure out how to get rid of it. To her, taking her chance with the creatures was easier then giving in to the cabin. "I'd rather stay with our guest outside. It would be interesting to see if they attack him regardless of stepping in the cabin." she gave a reassuring smile to Mat noting that she had no intention of letting them hurt him either way.

A Monkey walked through the woods.(he sorta walks like a gorilla, with knuckles on ground) He had an orange-silver tint to his fur, his tail was 2 feet long, he was about 4 feet 6 inches when walking, and he had three weapons. One was a hooked sword, the other was a scimitar. They were both in scabbards that were attached to a belt on his waist. The third weapon was a belt of throwing knives that went up his chest. The handles of these knives were specifically designed to let his tail throw them. He also wore very light plate mail. There was thin armor on his forearms, lower arms, thighs, shins, and chest.

He was walking through the woods and the rain. He did not mind the rain seeing how on his home planet it constantly rained. His species wasn't called rain-monkeys for nothing. Yet he didn't want to get too wet. So what he did was take off his weapons and armor and put them into his his pack. Then he shape-shifted into a flying creature from his home-planet, the duco-bird. It was large with a ten foot wingspan and had a sharp beak and talons. He flew above the trees looking for somewhere to camp for the night, so he may dry himself. Eventually he saw a nice looking cabin and decided to go there.

Hanuman, in his bird form, landed on the roof of the cabin, with a loud noise, as the bird was immensely heavy. He then shape-shifted into his true monkey form and put his weapons and armor back on. Then he started joking to himself. He told himself jokes about the ice-apes, and those seemed to calm his nerves, for this cabin gave him the creeps.

At the sound of a loud thud behind her on the roof of the cabin Sairia pushed off the outer wall where she stood next to Mat and Lucario, her other hand bursting into flames as the other was already lit from warming Mat. She turned to see a monkey in armor talking to himself. Her head tilted slightly to the left and she perked a brow. Was this another creature that had come to attack them? She wondered. “Mat…” she whispered, not letting her eyes drop to him but watching the monkey closely. “Hello?” she asked him, only because she could tell he was sentient enough to speak to himself.

Mat glanced at Sairia, turning around immediately after. He pulled his black katana quickly from inside his large robe, holding it out towards the monkey. A shadowy mist surrounded the black blade like an aura. Who was this person? was this what the forest had warned us about? Mat was as still as a marble statue. His stance was tense, He was ansty.

The monkey looked at them and couldn't help but snicker. Is this how you treat those who want freedom from the rain, with weapons? As he said that he laughed and slid down the roof and landed next to them. Greetings how are you? Are you here to get freedom from the rain as well? he jumped up and down shaking some water off of him. He checked his weapons to and armor to make sure they were there. After he was sure he had everything he needed he started to walk towards the cabin, not even giving them time to answer his questions, as he is forgetfull. O yes! I forgot, my name is Hanuman, and i hail from the rain-monkey citadel of Kishkindha. With that said Hanuman went to the door and started to open it so he may walk inside and get cover from the rain.

"My apologies, there was a few attacks here recently. Any abrupt appearences are alarming enough" He would say as he sheathed his weapon. The tense posture he had changed quickly to one that was more relaxed. He couldn't help but watch him open the door. Mats mouth opened slightly, as if he was going to say something.

".... Nice to meet you hanuman, my name is Mat" he finally said.

Shenna Rai watched the well armed monkey as he landed in front of the cabin, then approach and introduce himself. She moved out of the doorway to stand next to Sairia and let Hanuman go inside. She glanced at Lucario, then at Mat and Sairia, and back to Hanuman. A rain-monkey citadel? She wondered what that was and tilted her head at the monkey's back. So many different peoples and she wanted to know so much about them, but now wasn't the time. She shook her head slightly and introduced herself to Hanuman's retreating form.

"I am Shenna Rai," she said, bowing her head to him. Since he had his back turned, there was no need for her to bow completely. He wouldn't have seen her anyhow. She looked around her at the forest, wondering how many others were stranded in the rain this night and heading here.

Hanuman stopped moving. there is something wrong with this cabin... His voice sounded sad. Hanuman then put his fist in the air. When he did, it grew to be 5 times it's normal size. He then smashed it into the ground by the cabin. I was so hoping to get away from the rain. His hand returned to normal size. Oh yes, i forgot to mention, i am a shape-shifter, and i can see behind me miss, so i know you didn't bow according to your custom, but i won't hold you to it. He snickered to himself when he said that. He was a very playful monkey and didn't like serious situations. So when he turned back, on the back of his head you could see two tiny orbs. The looked like mini eyes, for he literally had eyes on the back of his head. He then pulled out his weapons and looked out into the forest.

There is something over there. He pointed to the trees, and you could see a faint outline of a being, but it seemed like it was made of fire. As Hanuman pointed the being disappeared slowly, letting everybody get a good glimpse at it.

Sairia was startled by the monkey speaking but introduced herself anyways, standing between Mat and Sheena. "I'm Sairia... I live in the forest, quite a ways from here though." she motioned behind her. She noted his shape shifting and breathed in deeply, maybe he could shift into a beast that the creatures of the forest would fear. She was glad he hadn't stepped inside the cabin, "Its a curse. You step inside and you can't come out without being attacked. We killed off quite a few, which is why we're not under attack right now, but I'm sure they are still coming."

When he motioned towards the tree's she turned quickly, her hands still ablaze from before, but when she caught the site of it, and that it was made of fire she quickly put her own fire out. "Can't fight fire with fire..." she sighed to herself.

Mat nodded when Sairia spoke of the curse. " I have not stepped inside the cabin yet, one curse is enough for me". He listened to the others speak. His suspicion of Hanuman being a creature from the forest began to subside.

Mat turned to look behind him. A flame like distance stood in the forest. "what is that...?" he said looking to Shenna. "You've stepped out the cabin, is that why this -being- approaches?" Mat said with a curious but cautious look upon his face. His hand slowly moved to the hilt of his weapon, hovering over it. It remained over the handle as the figure disappeared slowly.

"should we follow it? maybe we can find out the meaning behind this cabin's unfortunate curse.." he would add shortly after.

Shenna made a disdainful face at Mat when he asked if she was the reason for the being's presence. Her wings tightened and moved closer to her body and her tail grew rigid and pointed.

"I do not know why it has appeared, nor do I know if we should follow it. I have been outside this cabin once before this night and it had not shown itself until you and Hanuman appeared." She paused and took a breath, controlling herself again. "I do not think it is because of any one of us that it has appeared. We could try to follow it and see if it has answers, but if we do, we must stay on our closest guard. It may well be a trap." She looked around their small group, watching their faces and reactions. She relaxed her wings only slightly behind her, her tail swishing softly as she waited for the answers of each of her new companions.

Hanuman started to panic. he started running in circles and screaming. He then sat down and began crying. I must assure you there is a reason for this behavior he said in between tears. Hanuman then went to the witch and started whispering in her ear. He whispered That thing.... it is Cathraka, the destroyer of civilizations. He is a greater demon, we must do something about it.

The fire then returned at the edge of the forest. except this time 4 snakes of fire erupted from it and started moving towards the cabin. As this happened the being started to laugh. If you are as weak as the citadel of rain-monkeys, then you shall all die. But as the snakes hit the cabin they bounced off, unable to touch it.

As the being said that, Hanuman fell to his knees. What?...... My home?..... No..... Hanuman had just sat there, seeming nonexistent, he was paralyzed with grief.

"Shenna, I did not mean to offend. I was only stating a possibility.. " he said to her. Mat was disappointed at himself for seeming harsh."My apologies" he would add with a small frown. He looked towards Hanuman as he explained what the figure was.

"A creature of such power? incredible!!" he said with widened eyes. Observing the figures power bounce off the cabin, he would undo his sash holding his robe to him.

"Is this cabin sacred? his powers don't affect it all" he would say in astonishment. Mat pulled off his black large robe quickly, revealing white armor underneath. He had armor on his chest, shoulders, and abdomen, not including his guantlets. The white cloth underneath it had a quick glow, but faded to regular white afterwards. He pulled his black katana out and held it in front of him. His black hair changed to snow white, his jade green irises changed to white as well.

Mat rushed to Hanuman, resting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry for your grievous loss friend. This would be a great time to avenge your people, to stop this immoral being from destroying more in the near future" He said in a calm voice. Mat remained composed, he would save his emotion for any form of battle.

Sairia rested a hand gently against Hanuman as he spoke to her, telling her of the demon. She turned her eyes to watch it again, the snakes of fire gliding past her as she refused to move from the blaze. She perked a brow and smirked slightly at him. “So many demon’s coming out to play…” she joked to herself, she herself being a half demon thanks to her father. Her attention turned to Mat, her deep blue eyes glowing brightly as she drew power from the earth. She watched him transform and smiled to him, “You have many faces it would seem.”

Her gaze met Sheena and Lucario, “Are you two up for another fight?” She teased. She was actually quite irritated. She had fought more this single day then she had in a year. Sairia turned her attention to the demon, kneeling against the ground and drawing a water symbol into the mud. As she rose the ground in front of her and around the cabin sank, the water from the constant rain rising to create a lake around them to the tree line, the ground everyone stood upon remaining solid. She turned to the others, “This will buy us some time. I guess, gear up.” She sighed.

Mat grinned at Sairia, "Yes, many demons today." He waited for another attack, observing the figures actions.

"Only three faces heh heh My human one, my phasing one.. which doesn't remain constant, and my last one.." He said as white cracks appeared around his eyes.

[ ok, I'm lost. I may have to leave. I'm way to inactive now to keep up, and I don't have the time to read all the posts. though I really don't want to leave, I have to. When another fight comes someone take control of Lucario and say he dropped his guard and got killed or something.

I am deeply sorry :( ]
