A quiet bookworm whose status is threatened by the power awakening within him.
In familiar situations, Era is cool and collected. He can do routine tasks calmly and without getting bored; being a scholar from a noble family, this is quite an asset. He is kind to all, regardless of how he truly feels about someone, thus his true feelings and intentions are often hard to read. He is used to being treated with respect and will inwardly balk if someone doesn't treat him "properly," but again, he is unlikely to show this on his face.
The only time he ever panics is when he finds himself in unfamiliar territory. Being as well-read as he is, he feels extremely nervous when he finds himself lacking information on his predicament... hence why his awakening as a sorcerer is such a shock to him.
Era Baines is a child of nobility and was raised as such. He discovered he had a passion for books and learning early on in his life, and this led to him being the head scholar for the baron his family served under. His knowledge of the world and its inhabitants were acquired from tomes from all across the globe, and he took it upon himself to learn as much as he could about all manner of subjects.
Hence his surprise when he found himself in a situation he never could've seen coming: his awakening as a mage.
It started with small things at first - his eyes began to gradually turn from blue-violet to gold, a condition that, while alarming, he simply considered some form of rare illness. Then came the candles that would light by themselves when he had an inkling to light them. The temperature of a room dropping when he thought it was too hot. Invisible forces slamming those he secretly harbored ill-will towards into walls when their eyes met.
Eventually he realized that he was the catalyst for these events and that it was somewhat under his control... but he was still terrified of himself and his newfound abilities, useful as they were. Era can't stand unanswered questions, and he lives in dire fear of being found out and accused of black magic. His position and nobility being stripped from him are the least of his problems - were he to be found out, it is entirely possible that the fearful masses would not only kill him, but his family as well. He refuses to allow that to happen.
He is caught between worlds and unsure of what to do... can he keep these powers in check? Should he? Or should he run from it all to save those he loves?
