History

Carson Knowles, a Marine who served the US during the American invasion of Panama. Whose father was a politician, also having aspirations to one day run for Mayor of Gotham city. Carson is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and is expert in the use of edged weapons, small firearms and explosives.

Back story:

In the early 1980s Carson was part of a rebel camp near the Egyptian border with his best friend Marc Secret as Bushman rode through, slaughtering everyone present, and Carson swore Marc knew he was shot but still left him there to die. He struggled to make it to the Tomb of Seti where he saw Marc being made Khonshu's avatar. Carson begged Khonshu for power too, but his pleas were ignored. From that day forward his jealousy grew to monstrous proportions, and he vowed to one day replace his friend as Shadow knight, the new avatar of Khonshu.

Upon returning, he discovered that his wife left him and that his young son was murdered by an unknown female serial killer.

Inspired by Moon Spell's exploits around Gotham (taken particular enjoyment from his more questionable acts), Knowles became the Hatchet-Killer, where he wore a gruesome mask to terrify his potential victims. As this new persona, he was determined to kill every unsavory female in the city until he got to the one responsible for his son's death. Eventually challenging Moon Spell by publicly murdering several innocents. Knowles was defeated by Moon Spell and sent to the Arkham asylum, at which point his powers (apparently bestowed on him unknowingly by khonshu) were taken away. Through a loophole in the system Knowles was released from Arkham asylum and through his ties with the American government (as an assassin working for the CIA) he was able to get his criminal record wiped clean, allowing him to enlist in the Marines.

Carson's role in the invasion on Panama

The United States Invasion of Panama, code-named Operation Just Cause, was the invasion of Panama by the United States in December 1989. It occurred during the administration of U.S. President George H. W. Bush. The U.S. had long standing relations with General Noriega. Noriega served as a U.S. intelligence asset and paid informant of the Central Intelligence Agency since 1967, including when Bush was head of the CIA (1976–77). The U.S. had turned a blind eye to Noriega's involvement in drug trafficking since the 1970s.

Noriega received upwards of $100,000 per year from the 1960s until the 1980s, when his salary was increased to $200,000 per year, for his loyalty. Although he worked with the Drug Enforcement Administration to restrict illegal drug shipments, he was known to simultaneously accept significant financial support from drug dealers, who through Noriega received protection from DEA investigations due to his special relationship with the CIA. Noriega was then singled out for direct involvement in these drug trafficking operations.

In October 1989, Noriega foiled a second coup attempt. Pressure mounted on Bush as the media labeled him a "wimp" for failing to aid Panama in spite of campaign rhetoric that called for a tough stand against known drug traffickers. President Bush declared that the U.S. would not negotiate with a known drug trafficker and denied having any knowledge of Noriega's involvement with the drug trade prior to 1988, although Bush had met with Noriega while Director of the CIA and had been the Chair of the Task Force on Drugs while Vice President.

Operation Nifty Package

A United States Navy SEALs-operated plan conducted in 1989 designed to capture Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega. Bush decided to invade for domestic political reasons, citing scarce strategic reasoning for the U.S. to invade. President Bush ordered the execution of the Panama invasion plan; the military set H-Hour as 0100 on December 20.

Executed in the starting hours of Operation Just Cause, this operation was handled by Seal Team Four. Consisting of 48 U.S. Navy SEALs, one particular Navy SEAL group, consisting of four divers and men on Zodiac attack boats, was assigned to sabotage Noriega's heavily armed gunboat. The four divers swam in the canal while being attacked with Panamanian grenades. The other three Marines were killed, leaving Carson alone to carry on with the assignment. Carson descended to the bottom of the canal, beyond the maximum operating limit of his breathing units, and, with a specially designed bomb, successfully destroyed Noriega's gunboat. During the invasion Noriega was deposed.

Panama, before the American invasion had instigated no hostile actions against any other country.

The aftermath and assignment of blame

The special properties of this particular bomb empowered Carson with indestructibility. Although Carson's skin was invulnerable to harm, it was cracking all over his body. As a result Carson's insides were vulnerable to attack, leaving him susceptible to multiple gunshots, which could conceivably put him down if enough bullets found their way through the cracks in his skin to damaged his internal organs.

Feeling betrayed by his own country for whom he had murder hundreds of political enemies and innocent civilians alike, while simultaneously blaming them for his present physical condition, and enraged with the society which had let his only son die. Taking all of the money he had accumulated as an assassin and mercenary he had a special outfit designed to protect his fragile body.

Carson would pay back his enemies by becoming the Black Spectre, a master criminal and anarchist.

So begins...
