Description

Image

Age: 24
Sex: Female
Height: 177 cm (~5’ 10”)
Weight: 59 kg (~130 lbs)
Body Type: Mesomorph
Voice Type: Soprano

Preferred Weaponry None

Combat Style:

* Mixed

Saiyan Rank: First Class, First Line of Defense

Powers And Abilities:

* Ki Gradient - By concentrating her Ki around the surface of her skin, she creates a protective layer of energy that’s strong enough to withstand incredible force from physical techniques to powerful Ki blasts.

Starting Power Level: 84,000

Suppressed Power Level: 18,000

Personality: Era is the epitome of what it is to not be a “true” Saiyan Warrior. She is kind, polite, empathetic, humble, and cares more about the safety of others than herself or her power level. The fact that she’s a subject of the SLBP means next to nothing to her, nor does her current power level which surpasses even the King’s. She’s more concerned about Kurosa and the others who share her condition. As well, when she fights, she does so with protective intent. She rarely ever kills her opponents, but she will permanently cripple and/or paralyze them with precision nerve strikes and blows to critical junctions of nerve branches. She does not believe in the idea of killing her opponents because she believes that all life is important, even if the views differ greatly enough to cause war and strife. She will always attempt the peaceful solution before engaging in combat. Always.

Biography: Era was one of the test subjects born after Kurosa, and as such she shares a strong connection to her leader and fellow Limit Breaker Saiyan.

Era’s mother was a sympathizer to the SLBP and lived on Haurbo Prime. She volunteered her unborn daughter to the experiment despite the risks involved because she believed heavily in the idea that Saiyans were never meant to have limits. Even if it meant only her daughter could discover that reality and not her, she knew that this was what was best for her Race. Thus, Era was subjected to the injections as Kurosa had been. And, beating the odds, Era managed to survive the process and underwent the same slow assimilation of the injected DNA’s properties as Kurosa’s body had. And now, she has potentially unlimited power.

Having been raised by Leyra, Era took to the kindness of the woman’s heart more so than the rest of her fellow Saiyan children. From an early age she believed that life was precious and that it should be protected, not extorted. She was always the one to tend to her fellow subject’s injuries, make their beds, help cook their meals, and overall became more or less the mother of the group when Leyra wasn’t there to be so herself. Era is now quite the cook and homebody, being able to handle almost all of the chores herself without any assistance. But she wouldn’t mind a hand every now and again.

Era’s power is now 84,000, which exceeds even that of the King of Saiyans who’s power is only 60,000. Despite this, she remains humble and suppresses her power alongside the others pretending to be a normal Saiyan in their culture and society. Even if she wasn’t being forced to hide it, she would chase the dream of a normal life because it’s how she was raised by Leyra and because her naturally calm and peaceful heart desires a world without conflict for her people. Era seldom engaged in combat when she could avoid it, making her the weakest fighter among the group despite the fact that her power level is not the lowest. Many of the others, Kurosa especially, have told her to harden her heart and start acting like a Saiyan. But Era cannot do that.

Today, she continues to function as more or less the mother of the group during Raids by keeping their sleeping quarters clean and tidy, doing dishes, cooking the food and banquets for post-mission debriefings, and tending to their ripped clothing, damaged armor, and their wounds.

So begins...

Totoma seemed to be utterly enjoying himself as Kurosa put distance between them before launching her ki blast. And the smile only grew as he noticed Era's attack hurtling towards him as well. "Typhoon Blitz!" He once again used one of his signature attacks but this time he used it defensively as the tiny balls of energy collided and exploded taking the coming attacks with them. A massive dust cloud formed from all the explosions and the sound of Totoma's laughter could be heard through the dust. "See isn't this fun. We should do this more often." With a single pulse of his ki the dust dispersed instantly and continued his assault once more. His movements were quick and sharp as he appeared above Kurosa with a powerful elbow drop.

Kurosa watched as Totoma blasted their Ki waves off and took off to try an elbow drop on her.

Thanks to how direct the attack was and the fact that it was nearly impossible to change momentum, she managed to just avoid the brunt of the blow but still caught the edge of his arm against her shoulder on the way down. It pulled her down a little bit and forced her to hit the ground, but once there she was able to blast Totoma in the face at point-blank range as he'd come down along with her.

With that blast, it was over.

"All right. That's enough!" She called.

Everyone gathered around.

"This has been fairly successful. I've already gauged our weaknesses during this brief period, so let me go over them with you." She said.

She looked at Era.

"Era... Your primary weakness in these drills was your passive approach. When Totoma attacked you during your turn at 50,000, you simply avoided his attack and retreated to the dust cloud. You could have tried sending his attack back his way and follow it with your own attack. With the power gap being where it was, it would have been guaranteed that at least one of them would land. Try to challenge us more aggressively next time, okay?" She asked.

Era nodded.

"Yes, ma'am." Era replied.

Even when Kurosa was admonishing them, there was a sort of kindness about it which prevented Era from ever getting defensive or upset about it. All she could do was smile.

Kurosa turned to Totoma.

"Totoma... Your primary weakness in the training was using attacks that are too direct. Many of your attacks travel in a straight line, such as the final elbow drop, which is why I got the better of you. Start varying the angles of your attacks to keep your opponents off balance. Directness is good in moderation, but shrewd enemies will adapt quickly to such a method of approach. Understand?" She asked.

"When you're right, you're right." He said with a shrug. "So used to having people baking me up." His power plummeted back down to it's normal 17, 000 as he sighed. "I'll work on some different variants of my attacks." He fell backward to the ground to sit in the still messy battle zone. "So Kurosa, any word on what the next planet will be attacking is? A member from one of the other Vanguard units is trying to bring my unit in as support for the next raid. Just want to know what to be expected if we can." He stretched and yawn as he laid back. "Also are you familiar with the leader of the Vanguard unit Gamma, think her name was Luppa or something, she's been showing up at my unit the past few days trying to convince me to take a promotion to her unit. Something to do with my potential being wasted in a basic frontline unit. Asking me how I train and wanting to spare with me, wondering who my family was and all sorts of super personal questions." In a sudden panic, he shot up from laying down. "You don't think she suspects something about me do you?"

Kurosa listened to Totoma, and replied to each question in turn.

"Our next mission has not yet been assigned. We are still on standby." She replied to the first question.

"I am familiar. Luppa and I have met a few times in Leadership Meetings. We don't speak much though, so I don't know much about her."

Her eyes narrowed when she heard about the promotion offer.

"Luppa..." She hissed.

"Recruiting others from another unit and even going so far as to offer a promotion is not her job... Such a decision is not up to her anyway. She can make a request for a promotion, but she herself cannot issue them... So what's her game?" She asked, more of herself than either Era and Totoma.

"And no, I don't think there's any reason to believe she suspects something about you. If she did, she'd suspect all of us since we're all in the same unit." She said, trying to calm him down.

She put her fingers around her chin and thought.

"... Obviously we need you to stay here, for all of our sakes. We can't risk anyone finding us out, no matter the circumstances." She said quietly.

"... I need time to think on this... Both of you, continue your training together. Practice your techniques. Go over cooperation exercises... Just... Give me some time." She said.

With that, Kurosa floated away towards the distant mountains, which was her favorite meditation spot.

"Kurosa..." Era whispered.

She'd never seen Kurosa like that... What was happening?

"I think I made her mad." Totoma said aloud. "I wasn't planning on leaving my unit. Not the first time someone wanted me to go further along the military ladder. I was just curious about why she kept bugging me is. Oh well, I'll leave it Kurosa." Totoma sat there for a moment before jumping to his feet. "Hey Era, how about you show me how to do that Ki Gradient technique of yours. I've tried to do it on my own but my ki just ends up ...exploding in my face." He said with a light embarrassed chuckle.

Era looked to Totoma and smiled with understanding.

"She's not mad, Totoma. Don't worry." She said, looking back in Kurosa's direction.

"Kurosa... She's troubled by something. Whatever you said must have made her realize something out Luppa's situation that she doesn't like or can't make sense of. She is taking time to meditate in the mountains on the subject to find an answer."

She turned to Totoma, and put her hands on her hips.

"At any rate, I'd be happy to teach you the Ki Gradient! It's not that hard to get once you know the proper steps, though it will likely take you a few tries before it comes naturally." She said.

She backed away from Totoma a few paces, and then closed her eyes.

"Take a few breaths and relax yourself first... Breathe with me." She said.

She took a deep breath in, and let it out on a sigh. A deep breath in, out on a sigh.

"You would think after all these years I would understand her better. I guess in the end she will always be a bit of a mystery to me." Totoma stood next to Era as he looked in the direction Kurosa flew. "Well, any matter. Let's see if I can get the hang of this. So just breathe...yeah easy enough." He took a deep breath and tried to sync up his breathing to hers.

Era waited patiently for Totoma's breathing to synchronize with her own before moving on.

"Good... Now that your breathing is steady, we can begin." She said softly, trying not to break his concentration.

"When you begin learning this technique, it's best to do so with a calm mind and body. The more tense you are, the more chances for mistakes and backfires such as those you've likely been experiencing. The trick is to calm your body, and calm your Ki. Don't let it devolve into chaos. Keep it calm, yet tight. Keep it focused, yet controlled. Do not let it escape from your grasp." She said.

Era's body began glowing with a rainbow of Ki colors.

"As your Ki comes under control, it will begin to do as mine does now. The tighter it is focused to the body, the more colors you will see." She said.

"Do not let yourself lose control. The feeling you will get is likely to be tempting you to let go, but you must remain on point. Focus your Ki to just above the surface of your skin, and keep it tight to every fold and curve your body possesses." She said.

Totoma's breathing was in perfect sync with Era's as he listened to her instructions. "Calm...yeah should be simple enough." He focused hard on controlling his ki. This was easier said than done for him. It always took a lot of care for him to keep his power under control, years of maintaining the same level did propose a certain challenge but eventually, it became almost second nature to keep it there. As he focused there were a few spikes of energy trying to escape his control but he quickly contained it, before carefully began to compress his ki across his skin. Unfortanently as he came close to covering most of his body his ki surged sending the energy around him to explode. The explosion wasn't large but it was enough to send him to the ground. "Dang. I almost I had it ...I think. Maybe there is something wrong with my ki. It always explodes violently when I try to do more precision like abilities. But it does give me an idea." He brushed himself off as he stood up. "What if I found a way to wrap my Typhoon Blitz in a thin ki sphere that when it detonates it sends the smaller ones out. Make the enemy assume the attack is one thing so even if they dodge it the real attack explodes either around them or behind them sending out hundreds of smaller attacks to throw off my enemies." He held his chin as he thought. "It will take some work but it might be helpful against a strong opponent."

Era opened her eyes when Totoma's Ki exploded, and put her hand over her mouth when he went to the ground.

"Are you all right?" She asked.

As he explained his plan for the Typhoon Blitz, her face drained of a little color.

"That's... Not a good idea." She said quietly, the color returning to her face after a few moments.

"Mixing two different types of Ki is very dangerous, and is likely to do more harm than good. Chaotic energy, like our flaring auras and Ki blasts, doesn't mix with the calm and controlled Ki of the Ki Gradient."

She walked forward and took his hands in hers, placing his hands on her shoulders while she placed hers on his shoulders.

"Instead of that, let me help you with the Ki Gradient... Close your eyes, Totoma."

When his eyes were closed, she closed hers too.

"Breathe with me, like before."

Once their breathing was in sync, she continued.

"Now, as we calm our Ki, I want to you feel my Ki flowing over your body. Feel your Ki flowing over my body. Let the ebb and flow of our intertwining energies lull you into a calm and peaceful state... Let it flow." She urged softly.

Totoma once again synched his breathing, his body felt warm as Era's ki went through him. There was a no discomfort, no fight back from his own power just a calm sense of unity. It felt strange to a certain degree, as he couldn't think of any time that he had done something like this, yet the ki felt familiar and soothing. His chaotic power calmed as well did his body and soon his mind. Slowly he felt greater control over his Ki than he had ever felt or thought he was capable before. And as if he had done it the technique a thousand times before his ki crept across his skin creating the barrier, it enveloped him from top to bottom perfectly. His eyes flickered open. "Did... I do this right?" He had never managed to use energy like this before, it was always used to push an attack or blow something up, never for defense, and certainly never this calmly. And even if he sure the thought was foolish he thought if only for a moment he might have been able to harness his full power right then.

Era's eyes opened, and she smiled at Totoma.

"Yes, Totoma. You did do it right." She said, stepping way and letting go of his shoulders.

"However, I must warn you that the Ki Gradient is a purely defensive technique. If an enemy with greater power than you prepares a Ki blast that you cannot avoid and know could be lethal, activate this technique and prepare to brace yourself. While it will protect you, the relaxation required to activate it lessens your readiness to move at full speed. You will likely be forced to tank the attack if you're unable to avoid it. But if you can manage to keep your body position so that when the attack hits you land feet first on the ground in a standing position to brace yourself, then you will be all right." She warned.

She chuckled.

"The Ki Gradient is something that has saved Kurosa and I during many battles before against powerful enemies. It's reliable and consistent, but again it's purely defensive. Please don't ever try attacking while using this technique. Dissipate the protective layer first, or you will experience a powerful and potentially very dangerous backlash of energy that could do great harm to your body." She said.

Era turned around so her back was facing him, grabbed the shoulders of her shirt, and dropped it part-way so he could see all of her bare back from her neck to the middle of her hips, just barely showing the top of her tailbone above her posterior... And across her lower back was a series of what looked like discolored skin, but a closer inspection would reveal that they were, in fact, thousands upon thousands of microscopic scars from micro-explosions of Ki at the skin level.

"Look, Totoma. This is a lesser example of what could happen if you try to attack while still using the Ki Gradient. My lower back literally exploded with microscopic particles of Ki causing thousands of micro-scars which I will carry for the rest of my life. All I did was try to use a regular Ki blast... And this was the result. Even our best rejuvenation chambers were never able to heal them." She said.

She replaced her shirt and turned around to face him.

"Promise me you will remember this, Totoma. You cannot risk attacking while using the Ki Gradient. Like I said before, chaotic energy like Ki blasts and calm Ki like the Gradient do not mix, and my back is a good example as to why... Promise?" She asked.

The energy quickly dissipated as Era stepped away, while Totoma relaced his mind was already thinking about how to best use the defense. His overconfidence with the ability faded as Era gave her warnings. When she turned to show her the scars across he lower back, he felt a mixture of anger and sadness. He had to stop actively himself from reaching out to touch them, as he almost couldn't believe she had been injured to that point before. A part of him always assumed the shield was perfect but this proved him wrong. "I ...I promise. I didn't know you had injuries like that." his face turned somber, he hated seeing those he saw as family hurt like this. It brought up memories of his fallen friends. With power greater than almost any other Saiyan, yet here he was hiding unable to fully protect the ones he cared about the most. "Don't worry I'll be careful." he gave a faint smile as his mind began to wonder.

Era smiled warmly at Totoma.

"Thank you, Totoma. And don't worry. I recovered just fine and have not suffered any long-term side effects from that incident."

She looked back towards where Kurosa had gone.

"I suppose it's time to get back to training. Kurosa wanted us to work on our weaknesses, so I guess some one on one sparring like we did with Kurosa is in order. I'll go first."

Era powered up to 50,000, waiting for Totoma to power up to 10,000.

"We'll keep going until you feel I've successfully pushed you into a corner. Kurosa says I need to be more aggressive, so that's what I'm going to try to do... Are you ready?" She asked.

Totoma nodded quietly at her suggestion. "Alright." He pushed out a heavy breath as his power dropped to 10,000. "If you need to be aggressive just do what I do. Let loose and enjoy the combat. Allow the feeling to fill you until all that exists is you and your opponent. Of course, you'll be a bit more tricky then me I guess." He jumped a bit on his toes and readied for her assault. "And don't worry about hurting me I can take a beating." He chuckled.

Era chuckled.

"I know you can, Totoma." She said happily.

Era let out a breath and charged at Totoma.

...

Later that evening, when everything had settled down, Kurosa called Totoma and Era to her in the mountains with a simple Ki blast into the sky. When they'd arrived, she invited them to sit down with her in the moonlight.

"I've had some time to think about what Totoma said, about Luppa asking him into her squad with a promotion..."

"And...? What did you come up with?" Era asked, obviously somewhat anxious.

"A conspiracy."

Era was taken aback.

"A what?!" She asked.

"You heard me, Era... Like I said, Luppa doesn't have the authority to promise promotions or make offers to members of other squads. But if she made the offer, it means she's already received permission, or has forged permission. Either way, it has to go through the Chief of Military Operations. And he always makes public announcements about such things through our intergalactic network (basically email) as well as via voice-over recordings of his announcements and decisions broadcast across our network with priority over all other broadcasts... There has been no such announcements of any such decision or transfer, nor any finalizations of promotion opportunities." She said.

Era plopped down into her seat, aghast that something like this would be happening.

"Given these facts, we know that Luppa has not received actual permission for any of this. And she's not stupid. She would not make a move like this without knowing she was safe from the repercussions, so someone above her is protecting her. Someone with access to the record books... And this is most certainly a conspiracy."

"I can't... Even imagine." Era said, still dazed.

"The question I was pondering this whole time is... "Why would Luppa be asking for Totoma?"... The only conclusion I came to is an alarming one, and it is what Totoma feared... Someone has found us out." She said in a solemn voice.

Totoma stood there dumbfounded as Kurosa gave her theory. "That...uh that all sounds complicated." He scratched his head in confusion, trying to piece together how to respond. "So, it seems like she is doing something shady behind the Chief of military operations back ... and seemingly can get away with it. That sounds incredibly bad. Now I know I'm not the brightest one of us. But why don't I just ask her?" He said sheepishly. "I mean I could just call her and ask her why she is so hell bent on me being in her unit. Make it seem like I want to. Or you could ask her when she inevitably shows up at my unit tomorrow."

Kurosa glanced up to Totoma.

"No, Totoma. She will take measures to erase her tracks if we try to approach her... I have a better idea."

She stood up from her spot.

"If Luppa wants to recruit you, she must have gained the approval of the Commander of the Vanguard to make it happen right under the Chief of Military Operation's nose... I'm going to have a word with him. If he doesn't know about what she's done, then we know the problem is not as serious as we thought."

She looked to Era.

"Find the Commander's contact info in our ship's databank and patch me through to him when we get back, Era."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Before we take further action, we need to know how much the Commander knows. If he doesn't know what Luppa has done, then it must be one of the lower ranked officials such as a General or Commander of the regular military. And if it's just one of them, then we can take more pro-active measures about figuring out who's found us out and wants us to reveal ourselves... Because I'm almost certain that's what Luppa intended for you, Totoma. She is notorious for using rather extreme measures during training to force her group to utilize the maximum power they possess. Their powers average in the 25-30,000 range, and your registered 17,000, against all of them, would not last long. I'm sure she was trying to get you into a position where you had to reveal that your registered 17,000 power level was not enough, and reveal the depths of your power so she could get you executed by the King."

Era's face drained of color.

Totoma felt a chill go through him. "That...uh would be uh not so good." he rubbed his neck as if feeling for an invisible knife. "How could she eve deduce that I have a greater power level." he sighed trying to think. "I'm always doubly sure my power is in check. I have never used any of my suppressed power..." He thought hard about any time he may have used his power. Suddenly his eyes widened. "Uh oh. My power may have spiked during a few raids back. "The building I was clearing out collapsed and I lost focus for a brief moment. It wasn't even a half a second but I'm sure my power passed 20,000. There was no one around me so I didn't think anyone saw but what if she did."

Kurosa's eyes darted to Totoma.

"If your power did spike, then the Scouters and battle recorders would have picked it up... And that record would be sent up the chain."

She thought to herself a moment.

"But, then again... No, wishful thinking..." She began, but corrected herself.

"Regardless, if Luppa suspects you, Totoma, then she suspects all of us. You're part of our group, and as such Luppa is smart enough to make the connection that if you can do it then so can Era and I. But I doubt she knows the full extent of what she or anyone else saw that day. She's probably being cautious, and trying to see if she can force a reveal in a rather ordinary fashion... She and whoever cleared this for her."

"B-but if they found us out, we'll all be executed." Era said worriedly.

"No, Era... We won't be. Not so long as we can chalk it up to a simple electronic fault. Scouters sometimes read incorrect signatures. It's very rare, but they do sometimes read more than one power signature at a time, thinking them to be of a single source if they're close enough. If anyone else was near Totoma when he spiked his power, then we'll have an alibi."

"*Phew*" Era sighed.

"That's no reason to relax, Era. But yes, try to relax as much as you can. I will work on putting together an alibi if I can confirm anyone else was near Totoma that day by observing the recordings. And if I can confirm that, then if we find out that this goes as high as the Chief of Military Operations we will use it against him when we are summoned for questioning."

Kurosa turned to both of them.

"Get some rest you two... I have a feeling the next couple of days are going to be a bit rough for us, legally speaking."
