Powers: As a skinwalker, earning her leadership position in the group, Mat can shapeshift into other humans, but only females. The differences in biology and processes of a male are too much for her shifting abilities. She can easily shift into other animals, especially a cat, which she has been practicing since she first learned of her abilities. Like other shifters, she enhabits the traits of the animals she shifts into, and has inherited the agility and balance of a cat. She keeps these abilities in other human forms. She also has developed a higher intelligence due to impersonating high-level government and business officials, and has mastered feline animals.
She can somewhat control the urge to shift on the night of a full moon, but like other shifters resisting, it is still extremely painful and causes her nose to start bleeding.

Fears: Mat is quite afraid of losing her family of shifters, as they are the only family she has now and has grown quite protective of them.
As much as she doesn't like to admit it, she is afraid of humans discovering their home and who they are. Humans are the weaker species in comparison but their ability to capture and contain stronger species is frightening.

Personality: Mat is obsessed with people. She loves to watch people for hours on end, learning everything about them through their tics and habits. She could sit in a coffee shop for hours watching the barista and learning about him. People in her group know she trusts them when she stops watching them endlessly. Mat interacts quite differently with her group than she does with other people. Around her group, she is very outgoing and lively, even helping other shifters with developing their skills with animals, and even the awkward transition of human shifts.
Unlike their top leader, she is willing to let them surpass her skill, only because she could then learn from them. She is the only one of two in the group that is a skinwalker, and she spends as much time as she can shifting so she can perfect it. She spend many hours away from her family, making friends she did not desire to keep and lover she kept only for sex. Sex had no romantic meaning in her life, in fact, her boyfriends were never allowed to have sex with her. There is one band of friends and a boyfriend she keeps for her greatest shift. She is learning from them what it is like to have close friends, a boy who actually loves you, and the romanticism behind sex. But her shifting is another story. To the humans who catch her shifting, or while in shift, she is not the angel they may have thought her as. She is cruel and vicious, and most of them are not alive to tell the story.
To her group, she is the loving mother some of them never had. Some of them had shifting families, a place to belong. Some were outcasts from their families, and needed a new place to start. Mat and her best friend made the group so that shifters would always have a place to call home. She loves to cook and will often cook dinner when she's not out shifting or on the full moon.

History: Clara, Ireland was not known for shifters. Mat was a rare person in a place that kept their treasures to themselves. Mat's mother was not in the picture, and her father kept her locked up like a million dollar jewel. He pressured her to learn, to be the best, to be the smartest, the quickest to shift. He made her study as much as he made her shift. She was going to be the top and it was all thanks to her dad.
As much as she loved to shift, she hated the way her dad constantly pressured her. He didn't know anything about shifting, only the knowledge he was coercing into her. When she was eleven, on a full moon, her father made her shift and kill him so that she could become a skin walker. He assumed she didn't remember what she did in animal shift, but she remembers him dying beneath her all too well. She changed jnto a car and ran out the house
She was soon captured by a young girl that took her back home. When the full moon set and Mat shifted back to her human form, she didn't know the girl was awake. They were the same age, and the girl, who she knew as Ashley, promised not to tell her parents if Mat stayed in her cat form when the family and servants came around. Ashley thought Mat had a gift, and was her guardian. Mat spent three years in that house until she shifted in front of Ashley's brother and he told her he could shift too, and knew of a place where they could be with other shifters.
Without his parent's, or Ashley's, knowledge, they escaped to America as brother and sister Matilda and Aaron Wallace.
They went to Louisiana, Baton Rouge to be exact. They worked with each other on mastering Matilda's human shift. They made their own batch of friends and lovers, but one had to mess it up. One of Mat's boyfriends saw her shift, and as much as he begged her to let him go, she couldn't bear the thought of anyone knowing, so she killed him. She freaked out so bad she shifted into whatever she could think of first and ran off.
Aaron was so close to the group, he decided to stay with them, and Mat left for a group of shifters, people that could know her secret. She met a girl who started a group with her and soon enough they were surrounded by a family of shifters.
