Gaspard "Grimes" Ophenes

"Greasy green skin of a goblin and the height of a stunted-man. As you assume, I -do- get all the ladies."

a character in “The Seven Day War”, as played by Vio-Lance

Description

Name: Gaspard "Grimes" Ophenes

Age: 22

Race: Half-Goblin

Goblins by any means are usually small, and bright green to dark brown-ish skinned. Skin tones have really nothing to do with a goblin races as a whole - they're very family-like... very swindle-ish, and very cunning. Goblins live anywhere from 100 to 110, their lifespans somewhat longer than humans. Goblin hair color can range from naturally blonde, brown, and even black, although it's not uncommon to see goblins with dyed hair colors. Admittedly, vanity is somewhat important to them.

As a half-goblin, Gaspard inherits traits from both his human father, and goblin mother.

Faction: Thief/ Circle of Cogs Mechanic

Weapons:

Dual Duel Daggers - A pair of broad, sturdy fighting knives, made for more robust purposes in mind. The thick, strong blades may not be as sharp as razors, but they cut just as well, as they can be put under much heavier forces. The bravado knives are hammer-forged steel and iron, made for mercenaries rather than thieves, are are a tad bit on the weighty side. However, this makes them all the better for Gaspard, whom isn't afraid to get brutish with blades. The additional weight makes them particularly dangerous throwing weapons. Although he rarely dual-weilds knives, he can, and can fairly well. He much rather would simply take on in hand, while his other hand occupies the grip of a gun.

Modified Stefans Revolver - The signature revolver of Miguel Stefan, a successful handgun manufacturer, that has been modified to fit Gaspard's needs. Customized by himself, the weapon is deadlier than when it started. Still chambered in Stefan's .455 caliber round, the weapon packs plenty of punch. But it is still a slow, hard slug. The bullets work wonders against unarmored targets, being able to wound them severely with a single shot. However, steel armor is still a problem; the .455 Stefan round will dent and ding armor all day, but until to shots hit consecutively in the same area, penetration is rare indeed. On Gaspard's Stephan, the barrel has been cut down to just 4 inches long. While not the most accurate revolver in the world, it is still quite able to place rounds within a tight group at 20-25 yards. The frame has been enlarged, to accommodate a larger cylinder, allowing seven shots instead of just six, or five, which would be much more common for such a small revolver. The cylinder is break-open style, allowing a much faster reload as well. The hollow metal hammer makes trigger pull and fire-time just a a fraction of a second faster, which could be the difference of life or death. With this double-action death-bringer, Gaspard can lay down the pain with accuracy, and devastating firepower.

Rugingchester Double-Barrel 'Stalker' - Another one of Gaspard's wicked modified guns. What was once an plain, standard double barrel shotgun is now a conceal-carry assassin. While far from quiet, the weapon engraves a look of surprise on the faces of those looking down the dual barrels. At first glance at the weapon in it's holster, it looks like a fat pistol. Perhaps just a plain full-sized revolver. Yet when it is exposed to be a scatter-gun, people head for the hills. Granted, the ten-inch barrel makes the weapon have a wicked spread pattern, and accuracy of a blind man, but in close quarters, the weapon is devastating. Two ten-gauge shells smash through light armors, and have the stopping power to make a grown man turn a flip at less than ten feet. Even heavy armors can falter to this weapon, and has the velocity to put a heavily armored guard flat on his rump. Usually held on a holster horizontally on the low of his back.

Appearance: As mentioned above, having both traits of the goblins and humans, Gaspard looks a tad... odd. His skin is a rather pale green, not as vivid or jade-ish as his smaller, goblin relatives. Almost as if a mix of white flesh, and the already pale green. He's taller than his goblin counter parts too... if only by a little. He stands at 5'1, and weighs just at 120 pounds. Like the dwarves, the goblins are small, and dense. His facial features match a mix of his father's softer human attributes, and his mother's sharper ones - he has a short, very pointed nose, large pointed ears, and small but pronounced fangs on the upper-row of his teeth.

Gaspard's body is rather slim-formed, and doesn't look very big to the outside eye. His compact shape doesn't make him very masculine looking, rather than his broadened shoulders. But his body is covered in a lean, flexible muscle. He obviously receives physical activity regularly. While his physique isn't something that is outstanding, it looks much better than what's on the majority of people. Nothing wrong with a slight six-pack and proud arms and shoulders, right? Well... at least ONE arm is proudly muscled. The other... well, it's made of bronze and steel. Gaspard's right arm is one of those rare, up and coming replacement limbs. If you wanted to get technical, it's not his YET, but still, it's attached to him. Debt is a funny thing, you know.

Gaspard favors a lighter leather armor when out and about. It's just the chestpiece, actually - he wears normal, thread-bare trousers, and knee-high leather combat boots. He also wears a simple mail spaulder over his right hand shoulder, to protect some of the more delicate of the cogs and wheels inside the arm. When at home, or anywhere he has no threat of being attacked, it's not uncommon to see him wondering around WITHOUT his arm attached.

Personality: Gaspard is bright and colorful in personality. He's just below the mark of arrogant, and very sarcastic. But at the same time, he's very playful, and down-to-earth. Light hearted jokes and comments burst from him, even in the most inappropriate situations. He finds it hard to take something seriously unless the situation is dire. He's easy to make friends with. Gaspard doesn't believe that he should give people a hard time unless they deserve it... and very few people do. While Gaspard is very intelligent, and mechanically proficient, he rarely thinks himself above anyone else, but will help those whom need it. He works in a small, secluded workshop. Only those he shows the way, or tells how to reach it, know how to. But he will often help those whom cannot help themselves, and evens offers beggars the ability to sleep in his 'abandoned' workshop.

On the sneaky side, Gaspard is cunning, and very well thought out. He's a good planner, and knows what it takes to get something done. He's not afraid of death. Nor is he afraid to introduce someone else to death.

Opinion on War: "Listen man - war's gonna happen. They ain't been a war in a long time, so I guess we was in for one, eh? Not that I was expectin' it to be with some...crazy underground.... things that outgun us every-which-way. Honestly? We're pretty bad screwed. But when has that ever changed th' fact that we'll go down fightin, and takin' some of 'em to hell with us, eh?"

History: Gaspard has had a winding life of normalcy, twisted with abnormality.

Gaspard's childhood was very normal. Despite himself being the spawn of a lesser race and a more noble one, he didn't get treated very badly, other than by the nobles. And while he can't say he had a great deal of difficulty, he didn't have it easy, either. His father was a blacksmith, crafter of cogs, springs, and metal parts alike, while his goblin mother was part of the Circle of Cogs. She built things with the parts he created. And their little family business prospered. Gaspard himself was fascinated with clockwork, and all the upcoming inventions that it withheld.
And by his teen years, was studying under his mother to become a clockwork mechanic himself. When he was sixteen, he was finally admitted into the Circle of Cogs, and with his mother's help, made his way to a dutiful mechanic position. He acquired the nickname 'Grimes' as he was notorious for going from job to job without changing or cleaning clothes, leading almost all of his things to be covered in oil and cleaning fluids.

However, the accident that caused him to lose his arm happened when he was 20. He was working on the large clock tower at the Circle of Cogs headquarters, when his arm got caught between two massive gears. The spinning metallic wheels spun without disregard, breaking his arm like a twig. It started with his wrist, while pulling his arm into the spinning machinery, breaking it again every six inches or so. Finally, it tore his arm straight out of it's socket, rending flesh, bone and muscle alike to remove his arm at the shoulder. It would've killed him, had his flesh not torn away. After the machine released him, he felt 15 feet to the secondary work platform, where his coworkers rushed to help him. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated. The Headmaster of the Circle of Cogs requested that he be given a replacement limb, and that they would provide him with it. The accident was still VERY public; almost everyone knew about the young man's arm in the clock tower. Rumors even began to float around of the limb still stuck somewhere in the machinery.

However, the other medical bills that piled up on the now unemployed mechanic overwhelmed him. And he would not let his debt fall back onto the lap of his mother and father. He did all he could on his own, hastily making money as quickly as he could. Few say he even stopped working to sleep or eat. But he was making ends meet just barely before the accident. After a year of trying his very hardest, his building was foreclosed, and he was forced onto the streets. Little they know that making money wasn't all that he was working on. During the year, he had actually constructed a secret entrance to his small workshop. He used the maintenance tunnels for the city's water-lines to connect to the basement. Of course, he couldn't exactly get in there without a few lockpicks... which obtained from thieves. And since his equipment technically no longer belong to him, he was stealing. Thus, he logically figured that thieving in general was acceptable to those whom needed to steal to get by. While he was no big time thief, he'd accomplish some decently sized jobs; mostly thieving parts from other workshops, excluding his mother and father's.

Recently, thieving has become his primary career. He hasn't seen much business out of a foreclosed building, after all. Thought he'll still offer to do mechanic work for the Circle of Cogs, he feigns being out of town, or away on business, or somewhat likewise story. His most recent mechanical foregoing is actually to replicate his mechanical limb, so that he may start producing them himself. And then improve them. He could sell his own arms, cheaper than what most could for. He could avoid the catastrophe that occurred when he lost his own arm. Which, in the long-run, is truly his goal.

A mechanic in the dark, where candles burn
a thief with nothing but a heart of gold.
One whom makes cogs endlessly turn
on his endeavor to make the world less cold.
