Hannah was born in a middle class home in Liverpool England, she was the youngest of three children the eldest is her sister Elizabeth, then her brother William. She has a very close relationship with her brother William them being only a year apart. When Hannah was 12 her father fell ill with Tuberculosis and had to be sent to a hospital. So to pick up the income that there father was bringing in the children took jobs along with her mother. Hannah's mother Emma worked as a wash woman, her sister Elizabeth being 17 took a job as a book keeper for a loan broker, leaving 13 year old William and Hannah to work in a bakery. All of them working combined managed to get by for two years, but when Hannah was 14 her mother also came down with TB and ended up in the same place as their father. Also in those two years Hannah's sister fell in love with and married the man she worked for. They both moved in with their sister and her husband who Hannah thought was very cruel and unloving to her sister and figured him for only marrying her for her looks. He was also very unkind to William and Hannah, despite all this her sister became pregnant with her first child. After the birth of the child Hannah began her work as a nanny. She stayed with her sister and her son Liam until he was four, that is also when William left and found work in the stock yards helping to build the Titanic. When her brother told her how grand the ship was and that the maiden voyage would be to America, Hannah decided to start saving the small amount of money she earned as a nanny and move to America. She hoped that with her experience as a nanny that she might find a family to be a nanny for. In the mean time she would stay with her cousin Emily that lives in New York. When the time came for the voyage Hannah had only enough money to be in third class but she was so happy she didn't care. Her brother in-law was happy to see her go but her sister was very sad. When Hannah went to board the ship she was amazed by how big it was her brother William came to see her off and hopped that soon he would have enough to move as well. With hugs and kisses, they said their good byes and now Hannah was on her way to a new life. But there was something that she didn't know about that she would have never guessed would happen to a boat that was said to be unsinkable.
