Nero Reinhardt

"Quite frankly, at first I didn't give a damn. But because of you, I know what's important now. I know what I need to do."

a character in “The Tribes of Imos”, as played by Citadel

Description

Full Name: Nero Reinhardt "The Black Dragon"
Age: 25
Gender: Male

Tribe: Fire
Position in the Tribe: Captain of Talon, a special group within the Fire Tribe designed to operate "off the books." They answer directly to the Leader of the tribe and no one else. Few know they exist and even fewer know who the members are.

Negative Traits: Proud, Flippant, Arrogant, Cocky
Positive Traits: Brave, Funny, Merciful, Intelligent, Strong
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Likes: Freedom, Challenges, Fighting
Dislikes: The Air Tribe
Fears: Failure
Personality Description: Despite his position, Nero is hardly ever serious. He can be serious when the situation calls for it, but he still maintains a laid-back demeanor during such situations and is never with out a witty taunt or comeback. Nero can seem at times to be uncaring or even callous, but actually has a very strong sense of justice and prefers to fight fairly. He can be counted on to do the right thing, even if he makes cynical quips about it the entire time. Nero values family and friends very highly. He cared deeply for his mother and, despite their differences, for his brother, Michael.

He maintains a level of honor and integrity when engaging in battle. He refuses to fight with children or even in the presence of a child. However, he seems to enjoy fighting as he sometimes does not fight at his full potential so he can toy with his opponent or make a fight last longer. He has been known to get bored with fighting weak opponents and only finds entertainment in fighting strong opponents who will give him a challenge. Despite his tendency to be brutal, Nero usually stops a fight if his opponent is too injured to fight back, claiming he is not interested in fighting anymore, and he does not feel obligated to deal a death blow to anyone who cannot fight any longer. However, he will unhesitatingly kill his opponent if they refuse to end their fight.

Biographical History:
Nero grew up as the first born son in a fairly well off family within the Fire Tribe, his father being a high ranking member within the military. Nero and his brother, Michael, were trained from an early age in the art of war and fighting, their father sparring no expense in the education of his heirs. Though their father was often away on business, they lived comfortably with a loving mother, who adored them. While both boys viewed their father as a cold, distant man, they viewed their mother as the center of the world, and something that they must always fight to protect. When Nero was twelve, his father returned from one of his many voyages to the Capital, though this time he was far more troubled then usual. Nero and Michael overheard their parents talking, of a coup and possible succession in the leadership of the tribe. Fearful of what might happen, both the boys agreed to rest for the night and see what they could find out the next day. That night however, their home was attacked. The boys managed to escape, but both their father and mother died as their house burned to the ground. They were taken in by a family friend, who immediately shipped them away for further training, with the hope that they might avenge their lost parents.

Both boys excelled in their own way. Nero was a top-tier fighter, and a gifted tactician. Michael was a masterful strategist with a keen political mind. They were destined for great things, many thought. When they were in their late teens, they both began investigating the raid that killed their parents. They were told at the time that it was a raiding party from the Air Tribe lands, though there was no evidence to back up this claim. However, Nero was a soldier. He believed in the cause and grew to hate the Air Tribe with all his might. Michael was far more tactful, believing that their father had been betrayed, a man killed off before he became powerful enough to challenge for leadership. The brothers began disagreeing more and more, and eventually, others began to take notice of Michael's claims. He fled the tribe, disappearing from the eyes that were watching him before he became too much of a problem. As was the way with the Fire Tribe, leader's changed, so Nero saw no value in pursuing his brothers claims. Rather than seeing the flaws in the system, he continued on his path up the ranks. He was named leader of Talon only a year ago. The group was made up of a select few who showed unwavering dedication to the tribe and its advancement. They answer only to the Tribe Leader, and should that leader fall, they will show equal respect to the next. For that is the only code of the Talon. While most don't know who Nero is, rumors tell of a black dragon, wielding a brilliant white flame.

Hair Color: Shaved, dark hair.
Eye Color: Gray.
Tattoos/Markings: Tattoo of a Hawk's talon on his right shoulder blade.
Weight: 215 pounds
Height: 6'2"
Brief Appearance Description: Image Nero wears the typical armor of the Talons, completely black with a heavy cloak to allow travel through the more cold regions without freezing to death. His armor is light weight, but protective enough to allow him to not have to worry about an enemy getting the drop on him. The overall color, or lack thereof, is to allow them to move freely at night with very little interference. There are no identifying markings on the armor so if killed or captured, nothing connects them to the tribe. He is an athletically built man and uses it to his advantage.

Carrying: Dawn's Fury, a long sword past down to him after the death of his father. The blade is black in color, having been forged from the finest craftsmen in the tribe. The phrase, "Noble Reason," is etched into the blade of the sword.
Notable Skills/Abilities: Besides his mind for on the field tactics, Nero is incredibly gifted with his sword and fire-manipulating abilities. Most of his experience in both comes from on-the-battlefield experience, giving him an edge over those with years of training, but very little actual fighting experience.

Flame of The Dawn Dragon- A technique taught to him by his father, Nero engulfs his sword in a brilliant, sparkling white flame. The material of the sword allows it to survive the heat, while most others would melt. When it connects with other swords, which are mostly made out of steel or iron, the intensity of the flame is hot enough to melt the others sword within a few seconds.

Other: Has taken his own trust in his tribe and turned it into a deep hatred of the Air Tribe.

So begins...

Nero

Nero nodded to Zeddicus, turning forward toward the direction they were heading. "As you wish, My Lord. Then we will move forward with the hope that a common enemy will drive our alliance." The two men continued on their path, the entrance to Shadowfen coming into view not far down the road. Awaiting them at the gate was a group of Earth Tribe soldiers. Nero stopped his horse just short of them, bowing his head respectfully to the one who seemed to be in charge. "My name is Nero. I bring before you the Leader of the Fire Tribe. The Undying Inferno, Zeddicus Thanos. We humbly request that you bring us to your leader, Toa Maunga for the purpose of negotiations." The soldier looked the two men over, Zeddicus in particular. "Welcome to Shadowfen. Toa, I mean, Leader of the Earth Tribe, Toa Maunga is currently away. However, he should be returning soon." Nero raised an eyebrow and looked over to Zeddicus before returning his gaze to the soldier. "I don't understand, is Toa Maunga currently away on some pressing matter?"

The soldier looked to the others, uncertain how he should really answer the question. "Our leader has a tendency to wander into the depths of the forest alone when he wishes to ponder on things of great importance." The soldier said it as if he didn't believe it himself. Still, that answer sounded better than the truth, which was that Toa would often venture away purely because he decided to and would go missing for days because of it. No one in the tribe feared for his safety as he was more than capable of handling things himself, but this time was a little different given what now awaited him at Shadowfen. "If you wish to dismount your horses, we will have someone take them to the stables. Then, we'll go to the meeting hall where you can eat and await our Leader to return." Nero looked over to Zeddicus, realizing this whole alliance wasn't off to the best of starts when a tribe can;t even seem to locate its own Leader, nor care where they have wandered off to.

Nero dismounted his horse and handed the reigns to a soldier. He didn't have any particular attachment to the beast, so he was more than willing to give up the reigns to someone else. The soldier's request of taking the horses seemed more like a demand than anything else so Nero thought it best to go along with it. The commanding soldier lead them into the heart of Shadowfen, a city unlike any Nero had seen before. Well, to be honest, Nero had seen it before, but formally entering a city and sneaking into it through a swamp are two different experiences. The homes were the trees themselves. It was all together a totally different atmosphere from Murtovaara. Walking this place, one might not even know that there were others in the world outside this forest. Nero could feel the stares from the common folk, something he was not use to. Lucky for Nero, most of the stares were in the direction of Zeddicus. The soldier eventually stopped motioning toward a door way that lead into one of the larger trees in the area. "I ask that you patiently wait on our Leader here. There is food, though I don't know how it will compare to what you are use to." With that, the soldier walked away, leaving Nero and Zeddicus "by themselves," despite the fact every eye was upon them. Well, how do you wish to proceed, My Lord? They are understandably suspicious, but overall do not seem too alarmed. But, we do not know how long Toa Maunga will be."

Toa

Toa smiled at Enir, though his face seemed lonely to say the least. "You speak of Mora. Aye, she was the daughter of Shadowfen's former leader. She returned to the Earth some time ago. As we all do." Toa shook his head and let out a small chuckle. "Anyway, Enir, you say you saw me then? From that tree I presume?" He tilted his head a bit, putting the pieces together himself. He may have been a little too laid back for his own good sometimes, but he wasn't stupid. He realized he could be totally off the mark, but Mora use to talk of such things, though only in rumors and old tales. Nothing he ever paid much attention to if he was to be honest. "You must have been in that tree for a very long time indeed, Enir. Well, for now let's return to Shadowfen. There we can get rest and hopefully someone will be able to explain what exactly I seem to not be getting. You're going to like Shadowfen, though. Its a very serene place... well, it was until we received news that the Fir-." Toa stopped moving entirely, palming his face and letting out a heavy sigh.

"This is bad. This is very bad. Well, maybe not that bad, but definitely not okay." He turned to Enir and smiled, realizing he couldn't pick up his pace until she regained full control of her legs. He half contemplated carrying her, but apparently people find that embarrassing, or at least, that's what Mora told him. "Shadowfen is not far from here, but once we arrive I may have to leave you for awhile. There is some... business that I have to attend to." He let out a pretty pathetic laugh, scratcching the back of his head. He wasn't positive, but the first rule of being a leader was probably being there when others show up to speak to you. He didn't remember it being written down anywhere, but it seemed like something you were probably just supposed to know.

"So, no reason for there to be dead silence while we walk. You say you were in that tree for a long time. Why? Fro how you speak, you must have really looked up to this Uberto Proctor guy. What made you want to retreat into that tree for so long?" Toa kept an eye on her as he led the way toward Shadowfen, mostly just making sure she didn't lose her footing. He felt like he could guess the reason based upon her battle wounds, but Toa was never one to trust his own assumptions. He preferred to hear it directly from the mouth of the one involved, rather than creating an opinion that could be totally off base. He found what she said earlier about only being able to manipulate plants to be rather interesting. Just how old was she truly? This was the question that ate at Toaa the most, but he doubted any interaction between the two of them could come to the answer. She had been absent for too long, and Toa, well, Toa was just a little bit too uninformed to make anything out of what she told him of her time.

The Undying Inferno
"There is no power without pain."

Image
Zeddicus was pleased to be acknowledged that they would be approaching the city gates of Shadowfen, to finially move in action, making sure this alliance would fall in its place.

"My name is Nero. I bring before you the Leader of the Fire Tribe. The Undying Inferno, Zeddicus Thanos. We humbly request that you bring us to your leader, Toa Maunga for the purpose of negotiations," the Undying Inferno's so called guard spoke for him while Zeddicus stood stiff as a statue, posture straight and eyes staring coldly at the soldier. The leader gave an intimidating look, not because he wanted to terrify the people of the earth tribe, but simply because he was nervous himself.

The Undying Inferno allowed the two converse further more, though Zeddicus did not enjoy hearing the soldier say, "Our leader has a tendency to wander into the depths of the forest alone when he wishes to ponder on things of great importance."

"I hear this 'Toa' is a young leader, I can tell by the way he handles pressing matters," Zeddicus insulting spoke, however he hoped that the soldier or any of those watching would take as innocent teasing, or perhaps a joke. You see, Zeddicus is not known to bite on his tongue, he is a very impulsive and spoken man.

Thankfully Zeddicus was only ignored for his words, and cursed himself for unleashing the slander at such a moment. The soldier then suggested or maybe really pressed on that they were to disembark from their horses. As stated before, the lord disliked horse-riding, it was never his strong skill. But Zeddicus still loved the horse called Cole, because the stallion held much history. And he was also smart enough to keep himself alive and be owned by Murtovaara's past two leaders.

Walking through Shadowfen, Zeddicus thought he would feel uncomfortable and queasy though the little boy inside of him was adventurous more than ever. He chuckled quietly to himself as he thought of climb upon the trees and dash all through the bridges, wondering how much fun it would be to jump on them. Yet, at the same time, Zeddicus felt the eyes directed on him, though he understood knowing that he was a man of great importance.

When the Undying Inferno arrived at the meeting hall he leaned over the table grasping a cup of red wine, sniffing its richness. He put it down however without spilling a drop not because it was cheap or had the aroma of mold, but that he was still cautious and concern whether the earth tribe was a friend or a foe. It was not that he ever hated the foreign tribe but that he was always on alert and prepared on matters as such.

"Reinhardt, things seem bad... very bad. Rumors say Toa is a man of great strength and stature but where in the spirits' names is he now? I play with fire in my free time, and he plays with the forest. However I know when to attend to pressing matters. Its childish, I've got to say," Zeddicus spoke in a low whisper mixed with a hiss so that the guards would have a hard time trying to understand what he was saying. "And did you see those guards? If strangers from other lands approached my city, I would not allow them to take their weapons. And did they do so, no. I see the lack of discipline in this place."

Zeddicus paced for a little bit thinking until he turned back to his companion asking quite rudely, "And what if this doesn't work, Nero? Do you know what a laughing-stock I would be made of? I trust you, but don't see my trust as a weakness. And if you dare think of betraying me, I won't only go for you.... How are your Talon friends doing?"

The Undying Inferno now in a cruel sate of mind smirked, implying that he would harm Nero's comrades if the Talon captain betrayed him. Zeddicus was just plainly scared out of his boots and attempted to find comfort with empty threats. For inside the lord did not mean that he would really hurt those of Talon nor did he distrust Nero. He was just simply frightened for his people and for himself.

Nero

Nero merely bowed his head in response to Zeddicus' comments. "If that is what My Lord wishes, then that is what shall be done. I must confess that I do not feel at ease myself with this current situation we find ourselves in. Even with the stares, this place feels to lax." Nero's eyes shot round the area, but they appeared as more of a casual glance than him checking up on anything in particular. The that Zeddicus made in regards to Talon did not faze Nero for the lives of its members were for the Leader to do with as he saw fit. It wouldn't be the first time that a Leader had taken the life of a member of the group, and Nero was certain that such things would continue to happen so long as the Fire Tribe carried the culture that it did.

Nero peered inside the window to the meeting area they had been led to. Much like how it was described, the room was empty with nothing identifying it to be a trap. Though, the odds of Earth betraying them at this point seem nigh improbable. If they wanted them dead, it would have happened at the entrance, away from the common folk. This small fact brought a little bit of relief to Nero as he now knew that at least they would leave Shadowfen with their heads still on their shoulders. Of course, at this point that still hinged on Zeddicus being able to keep his cool.

Though Nero understood Zeddicus' outburst, he felt a slight worry that it could be a preview of things to come. The Stubborn Inferno, angering the Sleeping Giant by speaking words out of spite or unintended malice. Nero began to contemplate an alternative course of action, one that would involve a more aggressive approach in gaining the support of the Earth. It was obvious that, while the Earth had declared war on the Water, they were not fans of the Fire.

Truthfully, the Earth might see the Water as a better ally. If the Fire Tribe were to be defeated, the Water would no longer have a reason toe harm the land. The Earth could side with either side and reach the conclusion they desired. Nero hoped this fact was not one the Earth had considered, or realized. If Nero was to somehow make the Earth have no choice but to attack the Water, it would benefit the Fire greatly. His head raced around ideas, eventually coming to a sound plan should these negotiations fail.

Toa

Toa kept quiet as Enir spoke, feeling like she had things to say that she had kept locked up for a long time. After all, he was the first human she had spoken to in a very long time. When they arrived at Shadowfen, a guard immediately approached Toa to let him know the Undying Inferno was awaiting him, along with a single bodyguard. Toa turned to Enir an nodded. "Fair enough. You will find food and clothes in the market. If anyone asks, tell them Toa Maunga said to help you. I doubt you have currency, but they are all good people and we try to help each other here. Also, while I might not be the best option to try to get a grasp on the changes to the world, I do know who is. You should speak to The Chronicler of Shadowfen. She can be found tending to the archives. I'm sure she will have everything you need to understand what has transpired in the world while you were away." Toa gave a small wave to say good bye as he began making his way to the meeting area, the churning feeling in his stomach getting heavier with each step he took.

Toa arrived within a short distance of Nero and Zeddicus, the hulking man sticking out like a sore thumb. He straightened his shoulders and cleared his throat as he walked over to the two. He was surprised to see how... modest the Undying Inferno was in size. Truthfully, he was expecting someone ten feet tall with flames for hair. But, Toa could see the fire in the man's eyes, a fire that looked like it could scorch most enemies in an instant. "You must be The Undying Inferno, Zeddicus Thanos." Toa took a polite bow. "I welcome you to Shadowfen. Forgive my delay, but something came up that required my attention. But, I promise that I have given much thought to your proposal." Toa walked over to the meeting hall door and opened it, bending down just enough so he could enter. "Shall we? There is much to discuss and my tribesmen have very curious ears to say the least." He laughed a bit and continued into the meeting hall.

The hall itself was as basic as it appeared through the window. There was just a round, wooden table with about twelve chairs "This is where myself and advisers within Shadowfen meet to talk about the village and certain policies." Toa walked up to a random chair and sat down, the chair creaking a bit from his weight. He was a little happy with himself in how he was handling the situation so far. Usually, the host waits for the guest to enter and take their seat first, but hey, Toa was doing most things right. Your... guard is welcome in as well. In this room, title matters little. At least, that's the way I prefer it."

Nero

Curiously enough, there were no Earth Tribe guards within the room and none outside it seemed worried about their Leader being alone with two from the Fire Tribe. Most would view this as poor training, but Nero knew better. This Toa Maunga was nervous, but did not seem to feel any sense of danger, and neither did his guards. Nero chuckled under his breath a bit, thinking that perhaps it was them who needed to be fearful of the giant before them.

Zeddicus was out of town, dealing with his lost Raven, and he had taken his dog with him. With Nero out of the way and his master not present, whilst he had complete control over the fire tribe... this was the perfect opportunity for Mazus to act. He would certainly not waste this rare opportunity he'd been given, though whatever he may have been thinking at the time remained completely concealed by his emotionless mask. It was always like this with Mazus, and the few rare moments when he actually showed emotion, it was impossible to tell if these were his true feelings or not. He was truly a man built from solely numbers and calculations.

Tapping his finger against the surface of the table in an unbroken rhythm, he let his gaze wander across the scroll in front of him. Currently it was blanc, as he yet had to compose the letter he would soon send on its way. How tedious... he thought, letting his gaze drop down to the large tiger resting on the floor beside him. She was chained as to avoid panic from any potential visitors, yet there was no doubt that this was a trained beast. She obeyed Mazus every command and had been his ally for many years. Reaching down, he gently patted her head before pausing as there suddenly was someone knocking on the door. Straightening up, Mazus cleared his throat, taking the quill he had intended to write with between his fingers.

"Yes?" he asked calmly.

"Lord Mazus," the voice of a boy sounded from the other side of the door, "you requested me?"

"Indeed," the advisor replied, dipping the tip of the quill into a bottle of ink before letting it connect with the surface of the parchment scroll, "come in..."

The door opened, and a young man of fifteen stepped inside. He had ash gray eyes, raven black hair and wore the attire of a typical page.

Mazus flashed him a slight smile before letting the quill glide over the scroll surface as he quickly but carefully composed the letter. Once he was done, he placed the ink to the side and once again set his ruby eyes on the nervous servant. "I want you take two guards and deliver this letter to the air tribe. Make sure they understand that you are coming in peace, and do not intend to cause any harm. If a situation demanding violence should arise- rather run than attack. We want to show them that we are willing to negotiate on friendly terms- not burn them to the ground... understood?" he asked, patiently waiting for the ink to dry. The boy nodded his head and bowed politely.

"Yes, my lord," he assured.

"Good boy..." Mazus said softly. Once the ink had dried, he rolled the scroll and handed it to the page. "Now be on your way. We are running out of time..."

This is all in the Fire Tribes best interest...

Toa

Toa quietly listened to Zeddicus speak, never breaking eye contact with the man as a showing of respect. When Zeddicus finished, Toa crossed his arms and bowed his head slightly, his eyes closing as if he was deep in thought. "Lord Zeddicus, your words seem heartfelt, and I can sense the sincerity in your voice. The Earth Tribes current declaration of war focuses on the land. The land The water Tribe sees fit to harm for their own purposes. This war between Fire and Water has been going on longer than any Leader has reigned. I do believe if we were to combine our forces, we would be more than a match for the Water." Toa raised his head up, and opened his eyes. They were stern and focused without any sense of anxiety or indecision. "I ask you this, Fire Leader, why have you not simply made peace with the Water Tribe? Would that not end the suffering you described?" Toa uncrossed his arms and shot a quick lance over to Nero, who was standing by the door with his gaze fixed on the young Earth Leader.

"There has been suffering on both sides on this conflict, and I wish for an end to it. Not just for the safety of the innocent within your tribes, but for the land as well. Let us make peace with the Water. If they shun us, then so be it. We will do what must be done. However, that path will only be taken should a peaceful resolution be impossible." Toa looked at Zeddicus, matching the man's gaze without hesitation. Toa hoped for peace, not more bloodshed. But to him, it sounded as if Zeddicus could only find peace through more suffering. Toa wished for another way, to at least try and reason with their adversary. He did not wish for any of his own people to die, nor for the land to suffer more. He also felt for the members of the Water and Fire, who were waging a war for a reason they probably couldn't even remember.

Nero

Nero listened to the two Leaders speak, his gaze fixed on Toa Maunga. Zeddicus gave an impassioned speech, one Nero felt would hopefully tug at the soft heart of the Earth Leader. Once Zeddicus finished, Toa retorted with his own desires and hopes for an alliance. Nero tried his hardest to hold back a smirk, the black and white view Toa seemed to have of the world being almost refreshing to the Talon Leader. Nero had no hatred of the Water Tribe, so if a peaceful resolution was founded then it would just mean less work for him. However, the odds of that succeeding were not in great favor. Nero often viewed the situation as an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Water and Fire were destined to battle until one finally extinguished the other. So it was in nature, and so will it be in life. Nero was however curious as to what Zeddicus would say in response to Toa's demand. If he agreed, it would be taken as a sign of weakness, one others within the tribe would try to capitalize on to end Zeddicus' reign. If he didn't agree, they might end up losing Toa's help. Even if an alliance would be in his best interest, Toa was clearly a man of honor, the type of which can be foolish when dealing in politics.

After all, the Earth had declared war on the Water, but until this point it was in nae only. No actual fighting had taken place between the two tribes. Nero had always been interested in seeing the fighting capabilities of the Earth, but based on what he had seen, he was not impressed. This tribe seemed a little too reliant on the supposed strength of its Leader. Nero began contemplating ways he could make To see their side should Zeddicus not agree to attempting a peace treaty. Staging a Water Tribe Attack? Stealing important historical artifacts and transporting them to the Water Tribe? Many options were available should things not go their way, but for now, Nero was content to waiting for his Leader to decide their next step.

Peace the word struck the Inferno like a single beam of lighting propelling against the wet grass. And like lighting it stung; formed with a shocking and tormenting experience. Enraged, veins homed to his forearms boiled in a orange glow, as his palms began to heat. Zeddicus's fingernails dug into the wood fibers of the table while his teeth hammered shut.

Standing up, Zeddicus implusively snarled, "Peace? Do mock my birthplace-- No, I meant instead, do you believe in peace? Perhaps for your countrymen, but the children born of fire and ashes were cursed with bloodshed and war. Fire and water will do merciless battle for all of entirety. And you shalln't believe for a moment that I will surrender."

Turning towards the exit he slightly faced Toa saying, "How can I stretch out an open palm to the beast that will only swallow it whole. Toa, you have a bright soul, but this damned world will one day shut out all light leaving you cold and empty inside. And by the time that happens, it will be to late to undo what has been done.

Toa Maunga, I have no quarrel with you, I leave with no intention to harm you are your people, but compromising with my enemy will only lead to surrender. And surrendering is an insult to any true warrior. I slander you not, for we do not share the same path, you may be capable of agreeing on peace with the detestable Water tribe, though there is no hope for me in that."

Zeddicus made eye-contact with Nero motioning his head that it was time to leave.

Toa

Toa simply bowed his head as Zeddicus left the room. "I am sorry you have wasted a trip, Zeddicus Thanos. Please do not let this failure hinder any future talks between our Tribes." Once the door shut behind them, Toa let out a heavy sigh and scratched the back of his head. "Well, that could have gone smoother." Toa realized he was maybe a little too much of an idealist, but his goal was to save people and this land upon which they live. Peace should be the goal, not destruction. He also had a fear he did not make vocal. What would happen if the Water Tribe was destroyed? Would the Fire simply resign itself now that its foe had fallen? Or, has it reached a point of no return? When one grows up in battle, to accept peace is not such an easy thing. Toa feared that the Fire would begin a war anew if only to appease its own nature. The same could be said about the Water Tribe. The only difference between Fire and Water was that the Water was actively harming the land. In all honesty, Fire was just the lesser of two evils to Toa. He sat back down, feeling the stirrings of a headache approaching. The talks were short to say the least, but it was clear they were not going to reach an agreement. The Undying Inferno wants to destroy the Water to protect his own. At least, that's what he said. It was difficult to discern the true intent of a man with so much hate in his heart.

Toa took a deep breath and stood back up, hoping that The Undying Inferno would hopefully see his side and do what is best for the everyone involved. Even with talks over, the thought of "Where to go from here?" kept popping into his mind. The only course of action he could see as viable was to approach the Water with the same proposition he offered to the Fire. If they agreed to the terms, maybe Zeddicus would as well. Thanos seemed to believe that the Water would never hold up their side of the deal, but things can change, right? Toa chuckled a bit to himself, realizing he might be a little too nice for a Leader. A guard entered the room and approached Toa. "What should we do, Toa?" said the guard, his voice shaking. Toa put his massive hand on the man's shoulder and smiled. "I will wait til morning, then I will make for the Water Tribe." The guard grew wide-eyed. "B-but, Toa, they might kill you!" Toa began making his way toward the exit. "I believe they will not."

Nero

Nero took a slight bow toward Toa before following Zeddicus out of the meeting hall. He closed the door behind them and began following his Leader back the way they came. "My Lord, forgive me. I had been informed that Toa Maunga had a soft heart, but I did not realize he would be this naive." Nero looked around the village as they left, guards were still watching them, only now with a little more intent than before. "We should wait to continue speaking until we have left the village. The aura of this place seems to have changed now that negotiations have fell through." Nero kept his hand tense, but did not touch his sword for fear that an inexperienced soldier might perceive it as an attempt to attack rather than a desire to defend. Once their horses were returned to them, Nero waited for the Shadowfen gates to shut and the soldiers to turn their gaze away from the leaving men. Nero mounted his horse and it began walking at a slow pace.

"So, My Lord, what would you have of me? Should we return to Murtovaara after such a quick and unsuccessful negotiation? We could simply continue to fight the Water on our own." Nero cracked his neck, looking back toward Shadowfen with a smirk on his face. "Or, I could create a situation where Toa would have no choice but to side with us. I can make him realize that the only course of action to protect his land and people is for the Water Tribe to be defeated, not negotiated with." Nero's voice was calm and had an air of absolution about it. As if there was no doubt in his mind he could make this happen. "However, such tricks can return to haunt us... normally. However, I have faith in my skills and would not offer this option did I not know I could handle it." Nero simply waited for Zeddicus' response. If returning home was what he felt was best, it was not Nero's place to judge.

Walking through the city of Shadowfen, Zeddicus felt the weight of failure and defeat pound against his shoulders. Time in war acts so precious, and here he has wasted a day only to gain nothing. Zeddicus was angry, at Toa for his naive and ignorant mind, at Nero for misleading him, but above all for himself. The Inferno thought to himself, I have too equipped myself with both of their weakness. I like Toa, was too childish to believe that an alliance would actually bond. And like Nero, I misguided my kingdom. I, unfortunately, have not a right to be angry.

Once upon his horse, Cole, Zeddicus whipped his hood against the hairs of his head. Zeddicus was unusually quiet, often when failure srikes his path he blames someone anyone, but now he only stared downwards in disappointment. He then muttered, "Damn... I thought maybe... Maybe this whole alliance would be a reality, and not just an idea. That we would be cheering and drinking till we could barely see straight, and all in favor of a new found alliance. What a bloody dream."

So, My Lord, what would you have of me? Nero asked. "Should we return to Murtovaara after such a quick and unsuccessful negotiation? We could simply continue to fight the Water on our own."

"I've learned that doing the same thing, but expecting different results is insanity. Thus, if we could to fight the Water tribe with tactics just as before; would we not be running mad? I desired to say I won against the Water tribe fairly, but the only way we will ever end this damnation of a tribe is if we... got our hands dirt."

"I could create a situation where Toa would have no choice but to side with us. I can make him realize that the only course of action to protect his land and people is for the Water Tribe to be defeated, not negotiated with."

"Aye, anyone could, boy. But not everyone could do it without being caught. The last time I took your advice, I ended up wasting my time. But I guess I am at a position with not many options. Listen, this will be your call, and if any disaster comes of this, I cannot be apart of it. I apologize if it sounds cruel, but I cannot put the tribe endanger. However, if you are successful, I will reward you secretly with anything you want, as long as it is just, You must want something, every soul does...

Though, I must return home. I pray to the spirits that Mazus has proven himself with be trustworthy yet again. But tell me, before I depart, what is your decision?"

Nero

Nero smirked to himself, reigning his horse to make it stop. He proceeded to motion the horse toward the forest, stopping just short of the end of the trail. "Return where you are needed, My Lord. I shall stay here. Talon will likely ask you for my whereabouts. No need to hide it from them, but I ask that you do not send them my way. The steps I may have to take to insure this goes in our favor... they would just hinder my progress." Nero looked back to The Undying Inferno, bowing his head politely. "I do not know what will come of this. If the worst should happen, I ask that you make Rourke the next Captain. He would by far be the best suited candidate. Even if things did not go the way we intended, I enjoyed the time, My Lord. It was refreshing to hear things from a perspective different from my own." Nero kicked the sides of his horse, the steed disappearing into the forest with Nero on its back. Its feet could be heard for only a few seconds before the sound disappeared altogether.

Nero eventually stopped the horse, dismounting it and tying its reign to a nearby tree. He removed his cloak, revealing the black armor of Talon. He slid his face cover up from his neck, concealing everything from just under his eyes. He patted the side of his horse and began his trek through the trees. Though he was not familiar with the lay out of the forest, he knew the general direction of Shadowfen. The darkness of the forest was a welcome aid to the man as he continued on his path deeper and deeper. It wasn't long before he came upon the tribe, not having traveled far with Zeddicus before breaking off. He hid in the darkness, away from the light of Shadowfen. His plan was simple. Wait a few days and find something he could use to stir up the aggression of the Earth toward the Water. Before Nero could concoct his schemes any further, the massive frame of Toa Maunga appeared within his sight. The Leader seemed to be reading his own horse, along with several of his men. They seemed to be preparing to leave, but at this distance, Nero could not overhear where they were going.

Toa

"Make sure we have enough food. The last thing we want is me showing up on their doorstep hungry." Toa through sacks into the back of the wagon like they were nothing. A soldier approached him, an anxious look on his face. "Toa, the message has been sent to the Water Tribe. They should be expecting your arrival tomorrow. Are you sure this is wise? And are you sure you are only going to take four men with you?" Toa scratched his chin and smiled, throwing one last sack into the wagon. "Nope to both questions. However, its all I can do. If the water agrees, hopefully that will convince the Fire as well. If they don't... well, we'll just go from there." The soldier sighed and walked away, unsure if his Leader was brave, or just dangerously stupid. Or both.

"Okay. Food, check. Supplies, check. Sword, check. Horses, check. We are good to go." The four soldiers each mounted their horses, looking at Toa with suspicious eyes. "Why are we leaving so late? Can't we wait until tomorrow." Toa clicked his tongue and looked at his men. "The sooner we leave, the sooner we might be able to stop more bloodshed. Besides, I'm more of a spur of the moment kind of guy. If we waited until tomorrow there's no way I could sleep tonight." The soldiers simply shrugged and prepared for the journey ahead. Toa was about to mount his horse when an idea popped into his head. "Oh, I should see if Enir wants to come along. Getting out and seeing the world might be good for her." Toa grabbed the nearest guard he could find and ordered them to send for Enir, but only after he finished explaining who she was and what she looked like. "Quickly now, we must be off soon." Toa would be lying if he said he wasn't excited. This would be his first time acting as a representative of the Earth Tribe and it would also be the first time he went to Lakeshore.

"Return where you are needed, My Lord. I shall stay here. Talon will likely ask you for my whereabouts. No need to hide it from them, but I ask that you do not send them my way. The steps I may have to take to insure this goes in our favor... they would just hinder my progress." Nero informed the Inferno as he bowed in respect.

"Oh course, I will let the men of Talon be acknowledge of your further actions," Zeddicus confirmed.

"I do not know what will come of this. If the worst should happen, I ask that you make Rourke the next Captain. He would by far be the best suited candidate. Even if things did not go the way we intended, I enjoyed the time, My Lord. It was refreshing to hear things from a perspective different from my own."

Zeddicus smiled placed his palm against Nero's shoulder as he spoke clearly, "Nero, I lost many good men because of this war, I don' want to lose another. You better be alive after this, that's an order. Good luck, boy, may the spirit being of fate, Ayman, be in your favor."

After Zeddicus said his goodbyes Nero vanished with a swift kick at his horse and into the darkness of the forest. Zeddicus was now alone with no light, travelling blindly would surely be a mistake. But if we were to rest until morning, there is a stronger chance other tribes, the water tribe would become suspicious. But nobody could tell from a distance that it was the Inferno, the hood covered his face and the darkness covered his body.

Zeddicus knew even if he pushed himself to keep riding that his arrival would be the next day in late morning, and that is at the least. The Inferno continued to ride, eager to be given a report on Mazus's process. But after three hours his body began to feel the burden of exhaustion. He could feel his head weigh down as his body slipped away from the horse. Zeddicus feel to the ground as his horse continue galloping without him. Zeddicus watched as Cole stormed off without his master. Too tired to chase after the beast the lord watched his belongings disappear from him. Zeddicus did not appreciate the situation but knew that he was not hopeless, he could survive without his supplies and horse. He was just now more... vulnerable.

There was a tree next to the path he followed, he leaned against the tree and began to doze off.

Toa

Toa grabbed the cloak and swung it around his shoulders. "Great! Hopefully the traveling will help you feel more comfortable in this world, or something..." Toa trailed off, looking back to make sure everything was ready to go. A guard brought a horse to Enir, handing the reigns to her. "You have been on a horse before, right?" Toa chuckled as he lightly tapped the sides of his horse, signaling their small company that they were off. As the group began to venture out, a guard released a bird into the sky, a small note attached to one of its legs. It didn't take long for them to get out of Shadowfen and into the wide expanse of the lands that separate the Tribes.

"You should know something before we truly begin our journey. We are on our way to Lakeshore, the capital of the Water Tribe, but there is more to it. You might have heard already, but we have declared war on the Water. In their fighting with the Fire, they have brought serious harm upon the land. One would think the Fire would be far more destructive, but the Water has been robbing the land of its life. While you were exploring Shadowfen, the leader of the Fire approached me about possibly allying ourselves against the Water."

Toa took a heavy sigh. Even thinking about the meeting was exhausting him to a degree. "I wanted the Fire to negotiate peace with the Water, but, Fire didn't see it as an obtainable goal." Toa smiled and continued facing toward the dark horizon, the moon and torches of the guards being the only thing lighting their way. "However, I think peace can be won. But, I believe we do not have much time before the fighting continues, which is why I wanted to leave as soon as possible." Toa was hopeful they would reach Lakeshore midday tomorrow, but he didn't want to push the others too far tonight. "So, do you have anything to ask of me? I understand, its a lot to take in at once."

Nero

Nero watched as the group left Shadowfen, choosing to keep his distance for the time being. He followed on the outside of the trees, watching the group head out of the forest and into the open expanse of the lands. Nero was curious as to who the woman was that had joined the group. She didn't look like a guard, nor a soldier. An Advisor, maybe? Nero turned back toward the forest and returned to his horse. He didn't need to follow too close as he already knew where they were going. Lakeshore. The Water Tribe Lands were in that direction and it was the only path that made sense given what had transpired only a short time before. In that moment, Nero came to a realization. The woman with Toa could have been from the Water Tribe. It would explain why him and Zeddicus did not see her. But, Nero thought she didn't seem Water Tribe in origin. Her dress and overall appearance seemed far more "wild" than what was custom in the Water Tribe.

Shaking off his worries for the time being, he mounted his horse and made his way out of the forest. He wasn't within eyesight of the group, nor did he need to be. He knew their destination and that was all that mattered. This was becoming far more perilous than he originally thought it would. Truthfully, the thought of having to work harder to attain his goals made him more excited.
