Leaving his house, Bruce's driver was outside holding the door opened and nodded to Bruce as he came out, "Mr. Pride, the office?"
"Yes, and on the double. I have an urgent meeting today," Bruce said and then entered his car and got out his blackberry to check the stock market. On the way to his office he received several from the office concerning the new strategy that he had presented to the board, a rather bold move in which he had promised that their incomes would increase and the public would hold a higher faith for their company.
When he arrived at the office, Bruce entered the elevator and went to the top floor of the office. "Mr. Pride-" said a member of the board who had conveniently also been in the elevator when Bruce had entered-"I understand that you want to see the expansion of the company, however, do you truly believe that it would be the wisest thing to invest in banks rather than obligations and building a stronger relationship with foreign companies."
Bruce smiled pleasantly, "Mr. Smith, I know we both hold the best intention for the future of our company, but we must keep in mind that simply expanding the company's number of offices and increasing our costs of production won't hold a steady economic benefit for the company if something should happen with the economy, like it did in 2009. We must think long term, and small as well, if we keep the people happy through loans, they will happily repay their debts."
"Well, there is some sense to that," Mr. Smith said and nodded, and then there was nothing more than small talk for the rest of the ride up to the top floor where Bruce had his office.
Leaving the elevator, Bruce walked towards his office, and nodded to his secretary as he did so. Ms. Winters was Bruce Pride's secretary, and in time of need, she was also his hitman for when he needed to make competition less...Throat strangling for himself; why bother with doing all the dirty work himself when others had more experience and enthusiasm for such things.
Bruce wasted little time in his office. He took off his coat, hanged it and then pressed a bottom at his desk, "Ms. Winters, please come in," he announced to his secretary, and then got out a highly treasured drink of his.
Bruce owned a bottle of rum from 1869. He hadn't opened it yet, for it was worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and he would either see to it that it lasted a few decades more or sell it when its value was significantly higher; the only reason for why he took it out was to show who he was, even in front of his own sister.
Bruce loved to show off. He knew he had earned a most infamous reputation for being the most cocky person in the company, however he ensured that the company was earning money, and lots of it, in an orthodoxy manner. So he couldn't be fired due to his talents in business, but he could be shunned from social events, not that he cared, really. Humans were never of high interest to him; they might have been to the previous owner of the physical body, but not to Pride. Not to him.
"Ms. Winters," Bruce said, turning to look out of his window. The city was magnificent to behold in the morning and evening, with its lights and the rays from the sun in the morning, and the breath taking lights in the evening. "Please, do take a seat," he said, though he hadn't turned to look at his (deadly) secretary. "I must say, I'm impressed with your handy work. It's good to see that some people don't make it through life as easy as others."
Bruce just loved to indirectly smeer his success into Envy's face. He knew that she hated him for it, and he couldn't help it...He loved to add just another gram to a wound, or rub some tabasco into the eyes of his victims.
The sound of Bruce's blackberry going off, as an alarm was set, was heard. Bruce simply neatly turned it off and then finally turned to look at Envy, or Lauren as she was known amongst the humans, "Finally. After all these years...Our plan can be set in motion. Finally-" Bruce leaned across the table and looked deep into her eyes-"We can end this war, once and for all."
