The Rugged Irishman
Personality: Martin Doyle carries himself with a sense of purpose and determination. He does not expect charity or favors - Nor does he ask for them. He believes strongly in earning his keep. His sense of humor is often displayed at the expense of others. He amuses himself by poking fun or just blatantly insulting people he cares little for. At times he can come across as bitter or jealous of a variety of things, other times he appears almost giddy. What goes on in his head is another story. It's often a myriad of random thoughts on top of analyzing everything he sees and hears. He is a bit shut off from the rest of the world, thinking that letting people get close will result in them cheating him out of what he's rightfully earned - A trait left behind when his father, the late Duke, left him and his mother to a life of working the land.
History: Born to a poor mother and father, Martin’s earliest childhood memories are of learning to harvest crops and tend to livestock. His family was one of the many potato-farmers throughout Ireland. Unbeknownst to him, his mother also served as the mistress to the late Duke of Kensington – His father. It wasn’t until after his step-father’s death that his mother told him of the events leading to his birth. She thought he was old enough to handle it, but Martin was not quite so pleased. He was outraged. Now not only did he feel betrayed, but he felt as though he had been robbed of a life that was rightfully his. Instead of being a dirt poor farmer, Martin felt he should have been the heir to the duke’s fortunes.
To Martin’s surprise, he received a letter from one of the duke’s messengers. Apparently the man had not forgotten his “other” child as Martin was being summoned to attend the funeral to receive a bequeathing. What was in store for the Irishman, Martin hadn’t the slightest idea. All he took with him to the service was his “dress” clothes (as well as a few spare outfits, just in case) and an iron will to take back what was his.
