Blackmuck Swamp (Bootbane Swamp)

There are only three ways to travel from the northern to the southern subcontinent. One is by sea, across the island speckled gulf which divides the two land masses. The second is by land, across the steep, narrow cliffs which link the two land masses. The third is neither by land or sea but a mix of both, the Blackmuck. Where the sea meets the southern lowlands, a thick tangle of reed marsh, swamp and mangrove forests dominate the land. They call it the Blackmuck due to its characteristically dark muddy soil. Locals call it the Bootbane in memory of how many shoes they have lost the very same mud.

Mostly unexplored, knowledge of the Blackmuck is limited to the tales of the half mad trappers and fishermen who call it home. Those tales speak of lost tribes of head-hunting goblins, giant saltwater crocodiles, and nightmarish trolls.
