~ Willow Haven ~

Soft sniffling woke Willow from her stress induced slumber. Her teal eyes, dull and tired from lack of sleep and worry, slowly fluttered open only to be greeted by the hazy blur of sleep and the aches of her body in her awkward sitting position. A yawn slipped from her dry throat as she wiped the sleep from her eyes and sat up straight her bones and muscles spasmed as they refused to follow her need to get off the cold laminate floor of the RV. She slowly stretched so not to cause any more pain to her already sore body. Soft light illuminated the RV from the outside, the rays casting shadows across the surfaces making the place look eery and haunted, like any old fashion movie her surrounding appearing gray. Snoring could be heard all around her, letting her know that everyone was still asleep, though among those snores was the small whimper that had awoken her.

Another sniffle came from the back of the RV and Willow moved quietly towards the back, where the bunk beds where. Loud, obnoxious snoring came from the bottom bunk where a formally hammered Roy was sprawled out awkwardly across the small mattress. On the top bunk though, curled tightly into the thin floral blue blanket, was her little sister Vivian. The light sniffling and sobbing came from the small body. Without a word Willow pulled and lifted Vivian’s small trembling body into a comforting embrace, cradling the young girl in her arms as she swayed on her feet while humming a lullaby into the girl’s ear. Willow cooed at Vivian until her breathing normalized and her whimpered stopped. Glancing down at her wrist watch Willow noted that it was only 5:03am and it took Willow ten minutes to finally get Vivian back to sleep. She lifted the small girl back into her bed and tucked the blanket tighter around her before pecking her on the cheek. A soft growl emitted from her stomach as she walked back to her previous spot, the organ twisting and cramping as it begged for nourishment. Sitting where she had just left was the duffel bag and backpack Ryan had given her before she had escaped the now spore infested safe zone. Her stomach groaned at the thought of food, the every same food that was nestled nicely in her duffel. She was the only one out of the group that hasn’t eaten since they ran, Willow having offered the small amount of food her had to the other’s since the food total in the group didn’t add up to very much. And whatever food she didn’t eat met more food for Vivian, who was Willow’s number one priority before anything else. It was rare nowadays to find a child her age alive, let alone so pure and untainted by her surrounds. Sighing Willow knelt down and rummaged through the contents of her backpack, checking off everything that they had and needed. She pulled out the long hooked machete Ryan had given her, the black blade glistened in the soft gray light of early morning, but even with its sheer brilliance the blade held an unmistakable aura of death. Cause no matter how you looked at it, this item was met to kill and she prayed she would never have to use it, especially against the living, though she knew deep down one day she would have to.

Its not like she has never killed before but bunnies and squirrels were different then people or things that looked like people. A shudder ran cold down her spine at the thought of one of the Sick, imagines of their grotesque appearance flashed in her mind but she quickly banished them away. She tied her long light tresses into a braid, her hair slick and greasy from not bathing for the past couple days, while her body had a thin layer of dirt and grime. She pulled on her backpack and sighed. They needed water, the very little that they had was gone and since they hadn’t gone out of the RV met that they had only been living off what they had with them. Which wasn’t a lot. But thankfully she had spotted a pond when they had been running, though it may be a few miles back the journey would be worth if she could get them some water. But she wasn’t stupid, she knew she couldn’t go alone. Being alone nowadays was a sure fire way of getting killed. Moving quietly Willow walked towards the front of the RV where Shaw was sitting on one of the driver seats, head resting on his shoulder while he lightly snored. Even though there were more comfortable spots he had chosen to sit and keep watch. She wondered if maybe he sat there so he could be the first to attack if one of the Sick got in or if he could just be the first to run. Willow only knew him because she had once treated a cut he had on his arm that had gotten infected from dirt and grime. That was a while ago though. Her eyes wandered down at the thought, taking in the skin where the cut had once been. It was just a doctor reflex to make sure her patient had healed properly.

Willow tapped him on the shoulder, trying to wake him without waking the others.

“Shaw” she whispered. She didn’t want to bug him but she needed someone to go with her and with Shay being pregnant with Oliver’s child she knew he wasn’t going to leave and Willow had no desire to take a hung over drunk with her and bring either Erin or Vivian just seemed out of the question.

“Shaw we are going for a water run, come on” Willow said sternly. She knew he was probably tired but so was she. But putting the needs of the many outweighed the needs of the few.
