Nickname: Ren
Birth-Death: 1896-1915
Age: 117
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Race: Empusa
Race Description: Empusa was the child of the goddess Hecate and the spirit Mormo. She seduced young men and bring them to her layer where they put them to sleep and feast on blood (and sometimes flesh). The original Empusa is pictured as wearing brazen slippers and bearing flaming hair. Sometimes she is seen as a one-legged hybrid, with a donkey's leg and a brass prosthetic leg. Now, however, the diluting of blood has left her children appearing mostly human, though some can take the form of bronze beasts or asses while others can control fire and heat. There are no male Empusa. Most are 'made' by other Empusa (typical draining of the blood then replacing some with vampire blood. Can be turned even a few hours after death.) though a very select few are born through relationships with human males.
Bloodline Trait:
- Control fire/heat
- Take the form of bronze animals (most commonly a donkey though other animal forms aren't uncommon)
- Can create a sleep-like paralysis over their vicims
Personality: To outsiders, Ren projects an aura of "definiteness" and self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature.
Ren is a bit of a perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes her interest. What prevents her from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is that she applies (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from her own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. In the broadest terms, what Ren βdoes" tend to be what she "knows". She thoroughly enjoys things like science and engineering and whatever else requires a combination of intellect and incisiveness.
Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be considered Renβs Achilles heel. While she is capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and is willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make her so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead her in interpersonal situations. This happens in part she does not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, she tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirting. To complicate matters, Ren is an extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes it easy for her to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that she really wants people to make logical sense.

It was January, 1915 and Ren had just turned 19. Uncontent with collecting scrap metal and growing gardens, the young woman devised a scheme to join the British army. Desguised as a boy under the name of Samuel, she was placed in a regiment in Gravenstafel. On April 22nd, the Germans launched the first chemical weapon attack recorded in history. Many were killed, along with Ms. Rider. However, none but she rose to see another day.
The battlefields were a popular place for Empusa. The weary young men were easily seduced and taken advantage of. It just so happened that one had snuck into the trenches shortly after the attack to feast upon the dead. She saw Serenity and took pity upon her, thinking her a brave soul and so brought her back to life as her sister. Knowing she could not stay, Ren left with her 'savior' taking with her only her pistol, bayonet, tags and the cloths on her back.
She fled to a small farmstead in France, far enough away from the fighting to not be bothered but close enough to hear the occasional boom of the five-nines. There, she was taught the ways of her new species. She stayed until the war ended in November 1918. She then left and traveled back to England.
She lived there for many years, moving between London, Portsmith, Yorkshire and Blackpool. Eventually, she grew bored and took a risk by moving to America in 1980. Again, she traveled frequently, taking an interest in science along the way. In 1999, she acquired BS in Engineering from Texas Tech. Four years later, she moved to New York and has been there ever since.
When she heard about S. C. U. she was skeptical at first but eventually decided to attend, having nothing better to do.
