Name:
Names are complex things for the faerie folk. Most of their kind rely on the old rules, so names have powers. If you learn the real name of a faerie, you have power over them, so faeries use pseudonyms, guarding their names secretly. As for him? Well, he chose the name Thomas Linnet.

Most people call him Tam Lin at his insistence, a play on the old faerie tale.

Faerie- Sidhe to be exact. His mother was a member of the Thussers and his father of the Ly Erg.

120

A blonde color with the occasional streak of auburn, usually in a wild mess- he has better things to do than wrestle with a comb.

A vivid, almost glowing green color
Distinct Markings:
Keep in mind that a majority of this is hidden by the glamour, only able to be seen by those with the Sight. Underneath his clothes, Tam's body is littered with what appears to be scars left from horrendous burns, remnants of his past among the humans of yore. There are also other scars that are less significant- it comes with being just over five-hundred years old. Another oddity in his physiology is the blood red right hand he keeps hidden beneath a glove, something passed on by his father. Then, of course, are the wings sealed away into a large tattoo on his back, large and more insect like than birds with a dark green and blue color. In addition, without the glamour, he appears less human. Pointed ears, pointed teeth, pointed chin, the majority of his facial features are on the sharp side make him a dangerous beauty as is the case with most faeries.
Likes:
Shiny and pretty things, whether they be objects or people
Music, especially of the Celtic variety
Dancing
Fruit, especially cherries and strawberries
Forests
Clean water(well, with less pollution; he can't be too picky these days)
Animals
Dislikes:
Meat
Day time- he's a night owl who revels in the moonlight
Being indebted to people
People who disrespect him or try to trick him- it never ends up well for them
Smoke, particularly of the cigarette and cigar variety
Stingy people
Skills:
The Gift of Gab- he can speak ever language, English, Swahili, dog, and so on and so forth
Flight- If he concentrates enough magic, he can bring out his faerie wings. He doesn't get to do it very often, but when he does...
Illusions- it's not a glamour exactly, but it makes sense along those lines. Tam doesn't like physical violence, so fighting through trickery is his preferred method. He can do anything from making a handful of rocks look like a handful of gold coins(a favorite trick he used to play way back when on unsuspecting humans) to placing people into a horrific hell-scape, something he can only do it he summons enough power. The illusions aren't only visual, but attack all of the senses if he uses his magic to the best of its abilities
Healing- He can do minor healing spells- broken bones obviously take more effort and energy than scrapes and other booboos
Music- Tam is an excellent fiddle player and dabbles in quite a few human instruments as well as sings. It comes from his mother's race, the Thussers, whose music can be almost hypnotic if an unweary person finds themselves drawn into it
The Touch- it's an intimate thing, but, given the type of faerie that Tam is, if he were to concentrate when making skin-to-skin contact with someone, he could pass over emotions, feelings, thoughts... But, as previously stated, it's something very intimate for the Fae, so he tends not to use it.
Weaknesses:
Lying- he literally cannot tell a lie (something he's learned to work with over the years)
Cold iron- any old iron will do, but cold iron in particular burns his skin, almost like acid to a human if kept on long enough
Promises- he cannot break a promise, but he can find creative ways to twist the words to suit his purposes on most days
Fire- Like many Fae, Tam has an aversion to fire
Shiny or pretty things- They offer an ample distraction, even if they can't physically harm him
Tam Lin is a fun-loving trickster at heart, enjoying messing around with unsuspecting Mundies and the occasional Shadowhunter or Downworlder(he, of course, has to be a little more clever with these targets). But he does enjoy having fun, going to parties, even at Mundie nightclubs, reveling in the nightlife both in and outside of the Faerie Realm. He's a little different than others of his ilk given that he chooses to live at least part of his time among the humans. It's fascinating, like an interactive nature documentary, and they do have the prettiest things... He can be incredibly charming, often flirtatious with those around him, slipping a "sweetie" or a "dearest" into casual conversation and generally disregarding personal space bubbles, even if he never actually touches the person.
Tam, admittedly, has a hard time understanding others emotions, but he does try to understand, even if he can't fathom why someone's upset or why he should care. But, through exposure to the Mundies and other Downworlders, he's slowly beginning to understand empathy, even if he doesn't practice it. Oh, he makes a good show of trying, but in most cases it seems a little off. However, his detachment from most empathy, even if he's slowly trying to grasp at it, allows him to be a good observer. Somewhere deep within his mind promises to be hidden depths, but under his pleasant and mischievous exterior, it's hard to recognize. After all, he is over five hundred years old. He has secrets and past torments that stay deep within his psyche, influencing some of his actions unconsciously. He's actually jealously protective of the things that he considers his- people, things, places- and the fastest way to break his amiable temper is to try to take something from him.
History:
Tam is notoriously secretive about his past, making up colorful and often ludicrous stories when asked. There are, however, a few things that slipped past his sealed lips. For one, his unusual parentage. His mother was a Thusser who went against her own upbringing to marry his father, a Ly Erg who went against his own solitary nature. However, his father disappeared when Tam was just a child(by fairy standards), vanishing away leaving Tam to be brought up by his mother's clan. It was not a particularly happy upbringing, the boy being ostracized due to his impure heritage, his red hand a constant reminder that he wasn't one of them. This led to him leaving the Thussers and joining a troupe of traveling faeries, leaving mischief and, more often than not, pain in their wake. Plagues fell upon livestock, children were kidnapped, people disappeared only to reappear dazed and confused... It was all typical to the mischievous faerie folk.
Another event that can be assumed from his past is that, at some point or another, he was kept in captivity. He refuses to talk about it, but the vivid scars covering his body from iron burning his skin tell their own tale. It was also at the time, or so it is believed, that he began stepping away from typical Faerie behaviors. He still caused mischief, but it was more subdued usually.
Time continued to pass on until, some number of years ago, he fell into the debt of Ardyon Faralwn. They don't talk about why Tam owes him a favor or what events led up to it, but the fact remains that he is still in the slightly younger warlock's debt. From that debt, however, a friendship of sorts blossomed. It was on one of his visits with Ardyon that he met Winni. She was a fun sort of girl in his eyes, and Ardyon called upon him to help her in any way he could as part of his debt. Tam could see how things would eventually blow up in everyone's faces, the peace between the Shadowhunters and Downworlders already teetering dangerously on the edge so, one day, he left her with his number and address, just in case anything were to happen. Just in case.
Miscellaneous about Faeries:
Sidhe - They're Irish faeries who are very attracted to beauty and luxurious locales, and detest penny pinchers.
Thussers - Thussers are a community of small faeries of both genders and their children who live in earthen mounds near the fjords of Norway . They tend to avoid humans, but they're not malicious. They love to dance, and are expert fiddlers who specialize in the folk music of Norway . Humans have seen their revels and tried to join in, but these shy little faeries flee when people approach.
Ly Erg - There is only one Ly Erg. He dresses like a soldier and can only be distinguished from a real one by his small size and his red right hand. He's seen as a portent of death, but unlike so many such portents, this is one with whom you have a second chance at life. It is reported that he will stop his mark on a road or path (especially if it is near water) and challenge you with a raising of his red right hand. The best thing to do in this instance is to retreat, because if you allow him to engage you in combat you will die within a fortnight. His red hand is said to be the result of many years of bloodstains from those he has killed in combat.
Miscellaneous about Tam:
Tam wears midnight blue gloves almost everywhere he goes, usually to disguise his red right hand that he inherited from his father
Tam has a large collection of priceless jewels, riches, and assorted other pretty and shiny things that he collected(stole) throughout the years
