From the top of the mountain, it felt as though they could see the entire world. It took them a while to get to the top, a bit longer than expected. Between Winter's leg and Elise's limp, they ended up having to stop a few times. Winter's leg had unhooked at one point and had become lodged between two rocks. A minor set back, but it had taken a bit of pulling to get it out while Winter was forced to cling to the mountainface and wait for the others to remove it. It was already the golden hour when they reached the summit. "This view," her eyes sparkled as she looked down on the valley they had just climbed from. "I didn't think we'd be able to see it from up here," Yuuki narrowed his eyes. No shining towers, no golden gates. No Olympia, but it was a good attempt. "It could still be on the other side of the mountain," Zoku pointed out.

That was true. They could scale to the other side and see what lay there. Winter didn't think that they would be able to find it that easily though. "We can make camp when we reach the bottom," Yuuki suggested. It was probably a good idea, considering they were going to loose daylight quickly. "It's some progress, at least." Winter pointed out, glad that they had at least attempted it. If Olympia was hidden, how was one supposed to find it? Elise had, had a plan of sorts. Maybe they could start asking locals around the villages if they knew anything of it? The way down the mountain was a bit easier, there was no clear trail, but they could bushwhack a little bit while scaling the rocks. Thankfully, Winter had picked up a long knife in the village she could use to cut down brush. Like this, they could sort of carve out their own path.

The last bit coming down the mountain was a harsh slide they had to make on their butts, the rocks shifting beneath them. Winter was covered in dust and dirt, but they had made it to another clearing on the other side, a river running through it. "We shouldn't set up too close to the river, in case it rains." They wouldn't want the river to overflow into their camp and possibly harm them. After setting up, Winter got the fire started. The temperature was beginning to drop, a bit of a chill in the air. "We have a few options for dinner," Winter said as she started unpacking the rest of the rolls she had stolen from the breakfast buffet. She placed them on warm rocks while the fire began to take. "We can have a vegetable stew, a bean stew, skewered meat."

Winter waited for them to take a vote, a branch breaking on the right, behind her. She jumped to attention, "Spirit staff," it appeared in her hands. Was it an animal? A person? A pair of red eyes peered at them from the brush. "No one move," Yuuki said softly. They did not know who, or what it was. Would it attack them? Pass by them? Perhaps camping in the woods wasn't a good idea? One massive paw emerged, not a monster, but an animal. It was covered in dense fur and was the color of the evening sky, with gold flecks along its belly. Larger than any stag Winter had ever seen, it towered above them. "What is that?" She whispered. Not a monster, no, she had no idea what it was.

With pain, effort, and sore limbs, Elise managed to keep up with the others, scaling down the mountain. The hardest part was sliding down the other side, it was very difficult to brake her fall without being able to truly use her legs. Still, she felt a little better than the first day. Hopefully she was going to be able to use her legs properly soon. Why was she so adamant to keep pace? Well, this may be her last opportunity to ever truly walk, and she did not want it to go to waste. Prospects were low, Doctor Julian made sure she was realistic about her situation. "If you wear yourself out, I'll be forced to give you my shoulder again, so take it easy!" Ame complained, bristling as Elise took her hand, getting back to her feet.

They set up camp a little bit away from the river's gentle flow, not wanting the rising water to flood their camp due to the low ground they were situated in. The air was chilly, in the shade of the mountain it was harder for the heat to reach their layer. Winter was, naturally, their main chef, so she wanted them to vote on what their preferred meal would be. "I want to save the meat for a special time, so let's eat the beans first!" Ame declared with a beaming grin, looking proud of herself. "We should really eat the meat before the rest, as it is the easiest to spoil." While the rolls were magically preserved, there was still an expiry date if they waited too long. In the end, Elise's logic won the day and the rest voted alongside her to eat the skewered meat.

In an instant Winter snapped to attention. Elise frowned, wondering why her senses had dulled so badly when she heard the sound too. "Spirit gun." She muttered, the small firearm appearing in her hands, the rosewood cane inches from her grasp. A large horned creature was walking, dark blue and gold, with a majestic aura about it. Yuuki warned them to be still, and it was tall and proud as it almost seemed to ignore them after a brief moment of disinterest. There was a faint metallic smell, almost like that of blood. Looking carefully, the towering creature had wounds by its calves, causing it's step to be somewhat awkward. "Those do not appear to be natural wounds." Rather, spears and swords lapping at it's ankles to wound and take the animal down.

"Someone was hunting around here then!" Ame cried aloud, startling the creature. It made a pitiful groaning noise and continued to walk painfully, hobbling past their camp sight when it buckled to the grassy ground, almost in a shameful kneeling position. "What should we do?" Zoku asked, glancing at it with curiosity. "It would be a shame to let it be, but I am not sure how many spare bandages and wound cleaners we can afford to give it." They made sure to bring the essential first aid kits from the village, but would it be enough to help the wounded beast? "The sun is setting, it may be beneficial to allow nature to take it's course." With it's injured legs, it would not survive once the hunters found the trail.

Winter started cooking the meat, which sizzled as she placed it in the buttered pan. In an instant, she was on her toes, her battle-sense as quick as ever. There was an animal, majestic and tall, and gravely wounded. It limped into the middle of the field, startled by Ame's calls. "Shh!" Yuuki prompted them, "Guys, have you never seen a Messenger before? Monsters must have injured it. These are animals the important Heir's use to send decrees!" He seemed excited, Winter slowly began to realize what this meant. "Elise, if we can heal this animal, it might lead us to what we're looking for." Olympia, now all they needed was a way to get this creature home. It was a gamble, but one that Winter thought was worth it. "Watch the food," she directed to Zoku and held her hand out, standing a bit away from the animal. It bristled, turning away from her.

Winter broke off a piece of bread and rolled it towards the animal. It hesitated, sniffed the bread, and licked it. Winter watched as it picked it up, gobbling the piece after deciding it was safe. Winter inched closer, her hand out so that the animal could inspect it. The Messanger stiffened as Winter grew closer, eventually getting close enough to where her hand was right in front of its nose. It sniffed her a few times, curious, cautious, then bowed its head, allowing Winter to touch it. She rubbed behind its ears, its coat silky and smooth. "Elise, feel his fur." She said softly, "Yuuki, slowly bring me the first aid kit." Winter was willing to use her share of bandages if it meant that the Messanger could lead them to Olympia.

"It'll be alright," she murmured, "Elise, can you try and keep him calm while I attempt to wrap these bandages?" Winter asked, "just pet him behind the ears." She began assessing the wounds, intaking the damage. There were bruises, scrapes, and cuts. She tended to the largest of them first, rubbing a cleaning agent on it. The animal yelped and attempted to buckle, but it could not move, it was weak and frightened. "Shh, shh, it's okay. Ame, some bread." Winter directed, wanting to calm the Messanger down so as not to continue to frighten it. "What do I do?" Zoku asked, "The meat is ready!" Winter shook her head, "It can't be ready yet, just flip it." Once the animal had settled, Winter went back to work, trying to wrap wounds while Elise kept him calm.

"The steak should be done now, take it off the heat and cover it." Winter directed, smelling the food. She looked up at Elise and smiled, "You're doing great." Winter was nearly done, she was just cleaning the last few wounds. The Messanger seemed more curious now than anything, it seemed to be feeling better as well. When Winter finished, she rose and dusted herself off. Her knowledge of first aid was basic, but it seemed to be enough. "It's alright," she stroked its elegant mane. "You're going to be alright." Winter turned back to the others, seeming satisfied. "I think we've gained its trust, who's hungry? We should eat before the steak gets cold."

Apparently the large royal blue golden stag was considered a Messenger, a creature used by Heirs to send decrees, and who knows what other functions they had available to them? There was a chance then that following this majestic creature would take them to the destination they so sought - take them straight to Olympia. "Ame." Elise glanced over at her companion as Winter began doling out orders, deciding to treat the creature in hopes of gaining it's trust. Winter was trying to entice the Messenger with the food she had been cooking, the tempting aroma still filling the air around the camp. "Yeah? What's up?" Ame asked, kicking her feet as she lounged about. "Why did you not know this was a Messenger? You are an Heir, correct?" Ame's smile faded and she writhed as if the question was painful to her. "Some things are better left as mysteries, yup!"

"Mysteries my left tail." Zoku mocked, rolling her eyes, protecting the rest of the food that would be for their consumption. "Elise, before Ame became your Heir and chose your card, she spent all of her time in her room playing make-believe with wooden dolls." The idea of Ame playing around in a house for some reason did not feel out of character for the irresponsible raindrop. "That is not surprising actually." Perhaps Ame felt kinship with Elise then, it seemed they had more similarities than was apparent at first glance. "People kept making fun of me because I have a weird face, of course I wouldn't go out and play with them." She stuck out her tongue and rolled her eyes. Winter wanted them to help so Elise did as told, doing her part in the first aid treatment for the Messenger.

Eventually it was done, the wounds were cleaned, and the Messenger no longer seemed afraid and agitated. "Good work, you may have a knack with animals." Maybe it came from her work on the farm, but Winter definitely looked as if that was not her first time. "If monsters were attacking it, we'd best keep a lookout. We might have to do a little fighting tonight." Zoku warned them as Yuuki served the food, everyone getting skewered meat to fill their stomachs. "I am going to miss your cooking." Elise said, after biting a piece of her meal. "I may as well make the best of it while I can." The Messenger was finishing up the strip of meat Winter gave it as an offering and it looked at them almost expectantly, no doubt wanting more but too proud to beg for it.

As night fell Zoku volunteered to take the first watch shift. Once it was Elise's turn she felt Ame poking her on the shoulder. "Your watch, then Winter's, then we pack up and get ready to go." It was very late at night, in the early hours of the morning. So far, no sign of the monsters. "How is the Messenger?" The black eagle asked, glancing over at it when she left the tent. "It's not moving, so it's probably resting until morning like us!" Ame grinned, yawned, then flopped onto her mattress. Elise sighed, sitting outside by the no-longer-lit campfire, rubbing at her wrist. It was sore, but her legs felt a little more familiar now.

An hour into her watch she heard something else familiar. Far in the distance, something was approaching. She sent a droplet of water to investigate for her, discovering small pack of eight wolf-ish monsters closing in, surrounding their camp in the mountains from four directions. She rang the bell to warn the others and wake them up, hitting the bell with the paddle. "Monsters have chased the Messenger here! We must defend it before it is injured again!" She called, rolling her eyes. The monsters had no idea they were about to clash against vassals, did they?

The meat was good, the fat having been rendered. It was flavored with only a few ingredients, but it still made a difference. A little over cooked because Zoku hadn't been fast enough in taking it off the heat, but not enough where it was tough and chewey. "What do you think?" Zoku wanted to know, "It's good, you did a great job." Winter replied, knowing that telling the truth would only hurt Zoku's feelings and make her never want to help again. Winter tossed some meat to the Messanger, which seemed more than happy to eat with them. She stripped her own skewer clean, hungry after a full day of adventuring across the Boundary. She headed to bed afterwards, being given the last shift. Winter gave the Messanger one last rub behind the ears before crashing in her tent, not even having the energy to change into pajamas. She was exhausted, having done a lot.

It was close to sunset when Elise rang the alarm bell, Winter rising groggily and rubbing her eyes. She pulled her prosthetic on, "Spirit armor," it was barely light outside when she stumbled out of her tent to see the others up and ready. "What is it?" Winter asked, "Wolves," Yuuki replied. Winter nodded, falling silent. She started to feel more awake as they waited for the wolves, their eyes glowing in the evening light. They were closing in on them, silly wolves. "Spirit bow," she switched her weapons, knowing that long range would be better. "Now!" Zoku yelled, they launched their arrows and ammunition on the wolves just when they emerged from the bushes. The Messanger reared its head, scared, but too tired to rise. The wolves turned into vapor, disappearing into the air.

"Crisis averted," for now at least. "I'll take the final watch, go get some rest Elise, Ame." Winter said to them, settling beside the Messanger. It nuzzled her hand with its head and she leaned against its warm body. "I'll wake you guys up when breakfast is ready." She wasn't tired anymore anyhow and figured that getting an early start to the day would help them, but she would allow the others to sleep more. "Warm," Winter murmured as she watched the sun rise. When it was bright enough, Winter went to the river and stripped off her clothes, bringing the bar of soap with her and a towel from her tent. Once she was clean, she started on the fire and hung her towel to dry. Winter fanned it with a plate and started getting it going.

There was some left over bacon that she put up, as well as some eggs she had stolen from a bird's nest and some hard cheese from the town. "This should be good," the Messanger had fallen asleep, Winter keeping an eye on it to make sure it didn't run away. "Breakfast!" She called, hoping the others would wake up soon. She put up some hot water over the fire, waiting for it to boil and using it to make tea from the tea bags in her backpack. The Messanger hobbled over, blinking at Winter expectantly. "Yes, you will get some too," she promised, waiting for the others before doling it out onto plates, a portion left for their new friend, who sat beside the tree trunks they were perched on and ate with glee.

Other than the incident with the wolves attacking the Messenger, the night was quiet and peaceful. Elise woke to the early morning, rubbing her eyes. She was roused by Winter's calling for breakfast, near the break of dawn. "We are coming." Elise replied, fixing her outfit and summoning water to rinse her body, making sure swas dry, then, fully clothed, exited the tent. "Good mroning. It smells rather nice today." The Messenger was still here with them, legs still bandaged, but looking happier than before. It seemed as if they had earned it's trust over the period of yesterday. "And hello to you too. Do you have a name?" She looked up at the golden blue stag, offering it a little smile before sitting down to eat. It made an odd sort of happy grunting sound, it's tail tuft twitching on it's rear end.

The Messenger even had some of Winter's tea before the end. "Thanks again for the delicious food! I should marry you for your cooking!" Ame giggled, happily slurping her tea then burping loudly. "Manners, Ame, what have I taught you?" Ame frowned, narrowing her eyes. "I'm not a noble, I can do what I want!" She finished eating heartily and Elise had to use a handkerchief to wipe her mouth by the end. Zoku and Yuuki also paid their compliments to the chef and the Messenger hobbled towards Winter as if to lean it's side against hers. Was this an animal show of thanks? "Messenger, we will be packing up and leaving soon. Would you mind if we followed you to your destination?" The Messenger made a breathing snort kind of noise but did not appear to object to the idea.

Following the Messenger would provide them with a direct link towards what may just be Olympia. if not, then perhaps even someone who could guide them in the correct direction. Which Heir was responsible for leading the Messenger here and why? What message was it going to deliver? "You're going to get wrinkles if you think too hard." Ame giggled, patting her on the shoulder. "We're all done packing up, so let's get ready to move. You don't wanna be a slow bird, would you?" Upon hearing that, the Messenger stood up to it's full height, kicked back one of it's hooves, and began to walk westward, opposite of the sunrise behind them.

"It seems to have given us permission to follow." Zoku observed, watching as the Messenger paused on the westward road, as if waiting for something or someone. "Then we should remain in pace with it before it changes it's mind." Elise stepped towards the Messenger, shadowing it's steps as it once again began to move. The black eagle glanced back at the others to ensure they were following along. Who was behind this? Could this really be simply a happy coincidence? There was still a lot to unpack, but for now it seemed fine to play along.

Was it fate? A stroke of luck? Cheating? Winter wasn't sure. The Messanger had given them permission to follow. It nodded its great neck, bowing its head. As though it was beckoning them to come forth. Winter excitedly placed her bag on her back. "I guess that's a yes," they would need to keep pace, as Elise said, which meant no falling behind. This was troublesome, as the Messanger could take paths that they could not. For example it had no issues stepping over bushes or winding through rivers, but the rest of them had to pick their way carefully across these paths. "It seems to be getting wilder," the path they were taking was not one well traveled. It took them through a field over flowing with Queen Anne's Lace and then through the entrance of a village. That made sense of course, as it had to deliver its message.

"We should probably restock while the Messanger finishes its job. We should split up, so at least one of us always has our eyes on it." Winter pointed out, not wanting them to lose it. "We'll do it! Pick us!" Ame volunteered, waving her hand through the air like a maniac. "Okay, Ame and Elise will keep an eye on the Messanger. Winter, Zoku, and I will gather supplies." Yuuki elected, taking the initiative. "Any complaints?" Winter looked aorund to see if Elise was alright with that. Once the matter was settled, Winter began to explore the market. This one sold completely different items then the one they had explored beforehand. It was a bit larger as well. "What do we need?" Zoku questioned, seeming to want to get this over with. They had a walkie talkie to keep in contact with Ame and Elise, in case they needed to rush.

"Vegetables, meat, bread, things that won't expire too." If they could get some more spices, Winter would be happy, since salt and pepper was good, but they could use more flavor. "Let's see, this looks good." Winter poked the meat with a finger to make sure it was tender. "I'm sure everyone will like this," she picked up two loaves of bread, more hard cheese, some butter, some eggs, and various vegetables. The walkie talkie began to crackle, their signal to meet up with the others. The Messanger had delivered the scroll it had been carrying, it was time for it to return back to its home. "This is exciting, it's a lot faster than I thought." Winter admitted as they began to exit the village. Could it really be this easy? Was it a sign? Was Winter perhaps going to actually meet her Father? Her stomach bubbled with excitement.

The sun was beginning to go down, the Messanger was starting to tire. It picked the final spot for them, a small clearing in the middle of the woods. "I guess we're setting up here for the night, any objections?" Winter asked, making sure there were none before placing her bag down. It was a nice spot, high and dry. There were plenty of sticks for them to collect and build a fire as well. "I'll work on the fire," Zoku volunteered. "I'll start setting up tents," Winter elected. "Elise, do you want to help me?" Since setting up tents was a two man job. Elise seemed to have more energy today, which was good.

Walking was a little easier now, she was starting to remember how to move her legs, how her knees were supposed to bend, how to turn her ankles to keep balance. She would miss it, and would make sure to enjoy it as best as she could until their mission in the Boundary was over. They made good progress, keeping up as best as they could with the Messenger, even though their small feet were not meant to travel the paths and roads the Messenger preferred to walk. Eventually they made it to another town and Winter wanted to do some shopping. The Messenger was resting now, after having delivered a message. "Then we will wait here." Elise said with a small smile, sitting herself down on a rock with some shade, putting the rosewood cane in her lap. Ame giggled, pouring herself some water she made herself to drink and freshen up.

After giving Winter a small list of materials Elise would need to modify her plans for a Portal Generator to make it able to run without relying on a river to power it, she began to relax, glancing over at the Messenger. It was looking at Ame as she created water for herself, licking it's lips. "I believe it may be thirsty." Ame made a face, her twin tails rising behind her. "But that's my water! It's a Messenger, shouldn't it have more pride than to beg?" Ame still sprinkled water over to the Messenger and it happily licked what it could from the air, it's tongue long and almost tube-like. "Perhaps quenching the thirst is more important than pride." Ame frowned, rolling her eyes. "It sure was happy to give us the stink eye before we decided to help it out." It seemed to mostly want to ignore them before, but now regarded them almost as travel companions, at least for the coming journey ahead.

Regrouping with Winter, Zoku, and Yuuki, it was time for them to get moving again. Eventually they followed the Messenger to a resting point where it knelt down in the grass, resting in the cool shade of the hillside. "There is a lot more food, I am excited to see what you will come up with." Elise said to Winter as she stood to offer a helping hand in looping ropes through the holes to raise the tents properly. Ame was playing with the Messenger, giving it water and telling it jokes it may or may not understand, and Zoku and Yuuki appeared to be discussing something a little serious as they gathered firewood.

Once the fire was ready and the camp was set up, the five of them gathered in the middle, hungry, tired, but satisfied. "So what were you two seriousheads chatting about?" Ame asked, poking her pale face in. "We were discussing the plan once we reach Olympia, since it might be coming up sooner than scheduled." Yuuki explained, looking away from his hands. Finding the Messenger truly was a strike of good luck. "How will we convince Zeus that Winter really is one of his children?" Elise queried, knowing that that was the big concern. "Hopefully there's some sort of family resemblance psychic connection." Ame smirked, chewing on one of the spare sticks Yuuki found.

"I'm gonna try making stir fry tonight." Winter decided, since they had all of the ingredients for it now. She was excited to try her hand at it. Cultural food wasn't something Winter's Grandmother had taught her, after all. With the tents pitched, they assisted in looking for sticks. "You want sticks that are dry," Winter explained to Elise, "if it can snap in half, it's good. If it has a bend to it, it can't be used." Sticks with water still inside of them would only put out the fire. They needed kindling, a small amount of leaves, and some larger logs. The Messanger watched them set up, resting its head in the grass. Once the fire was built, she put up a pot of water, allowing it to come to a boil. Once it reached a boiling point, Winter added the rice and took to chopping vegetables in the meantime.

Once the rice was ready, Winter took it off the heat to rest and began to cook the meat over the fire. She flavored it with salt and pepper, then added it to the rice and added the vegetables. The finishing touches were some seasoning and an egg that got mixed in. "Alright, it's ready!" Winter announced, putting up another pot of water so that they could have tea or coffee with it. She sat down on the bench after doling out the food, the Messanger heartily devouring its portion. Winter found it interesting that it looked like a stag, but ate like a scavanger. Perhaps it would take what it could get? In any case, she was just happy it would escort them to Olympia. What was it like? Winter wondered. Yuuki and Zoku had made it sound grand with its large golden gates that concealed it from those who were not welcome.

Winter was quite certain that Zeus did not know she existed. How else would he have just left her mother to raise Winter on her own? Not that Winter's mother did much raising, all things considered. Still, Winter was certain that if Zeus had known that her Mother was pregnant, he would not have simply left her. "Heir's can be thousands of years old," Yuuki began to explain, "but it was outlawed a long time ago that we were no longer allowed to have affairs with humans. I'm sure if Winter brings up her Mother, it'll jog his memory. He'll probably deny it, knowing Zeus." Her fingers curled around her teacup, "Then I'll just have to make him remember, or slip up." It wasn't a solid plan, but it was something to get her started, at least.

What if he was disappointed in her? Winter wondered. Had he watched what had happened in the Chrysanthemum? Would he be proud of her? Embarrassed? Did he know at all what she had gone through? "I'm nervous," Winter admitted. "What if he doesn't like me? Does it matter? What if he hates me?" What if he flat out rejected and refused to acknowledge her existence? Will the trip have been for nothing? The Messanger, as though sensing her unease, lifted its head onto her lap, resting its heavy skull there. Winter sighed, running a hand through its fur. "I guess there's no sense in worrying about it now. We don't even know how close we are." They could still be days away from reaching the golden gates of Olympia.

Elise was glad to help Winter, and in return, receive advice about the right sticks and twigs to use to keep the fire strong. They talked about Zeus then and what they would do to have Winter be recognized as his child, but so far there was no answer to that. "Then we can worry about Zeus when we get there." Elise said with a tiny smile. "There is nothing we can do until then regardless, so let us not worry about it." With luck, Winter would be able to prove it somehow, or maybe Zeus would have the grace to recognize her, but one way or another, they would not know until then. They went to bed after a hearty dinner, and the journey continued ever onwards. The Messenger continued to lead them on its path, traveling to some unknown destination.

Two days later they came across another village, where the Messenger seemed to have another task. "Might as well stock up on food again." Yuuki sighed, putting his hands in his pockets. Once they were done with the mountain village they continued onwards, even running into another monster ambush. "Why does everything hate Messengers?!" Ame asked in exasperation, falling to her knees after they fought off a dragon. "If Messengers work with Heirs, and Heirs are the enemies of monsters, it does make sense." The Messenger was still injured, so it could not truly defend itself. The black eagle lost her rosewood cane in the battle but found she no longer needed it. "I can walk mostly normally it seems." She said to Winter with some excitement. "How is your leg doing? Are you still okay?"

The third time they ended up by a village, this time bigger with four roads coming from all sides, they were welcomed by the populace. "The Messenger and the Message Guardians are here!" They chanted, even singing some unearthly hymn for them. "Looks like word of us traveling with the Messenger got around." Zoku seemed almost pleased, a grin on her face. "Maybe the rumors will spread to Olympia and save us a lot of trouble." Ame giggled, pleased with the performance they were being given. "Maybe the Heir behind this will even be thankful for protecting its Messenger!" It would be nice if that could be the case, though for now they had no choice but to follow the creature until it took them to Olympia's golden light.

The next day they had traveled even farther north, and the Messenger had stopped in front of a lake shrouded in ice and mist. It was frigid - thankfully Yuuki thought ahead and bought everyone wooly cloaks to wear over their normal clothing. "Oh, it's moving. We should pack up and get ready." It was odd - why was the Messenger moving again? It was night time now, normally it would stop to rest. With a sigh, the stag stepped into the lake, then glanced back at them expectantly. "It appears to want us to get on its back." Elise hugged the cape closer to her, looking up at the sky. "The sky is particularly clear here. You can count the stars." This was frankly, beautiful, a sight to never forget.

After they settled on the Messenger's furry back, it began to slowly walk through the lake, moving ever onwards to it's destination. Suddenly, Elise felt a starnge sensation, pressure on her lips, and pain on her waist. "El? You okay, what's up?" She grimaced, frowning. "Unsure. Is something happening to me in the near shore?" Would someone be touching her lips? Maybe Ezra was becoming impatient? "It is a little painful, but I am alright." She sat down, choosing to take in the sight instead of wasting this opportunity. "Remember to get some rest." Yuuki said after a yawn. "Since I suspect we'll have to keep walking once morning comes." It would take them all night to reach the other side of the near boundless lake.

Their walk was nothing short of an adventure. The Messanger took them through several towns and different forests. They had to fight off another hoard of monsters, Winter using her bow so that she would be able to keep distance between herself and the beasts. She kept her supplies close, not wanting to lose them to the monsters. Once they were defeated, they headed into another town where the people sang their praises for protecting the Messanger. It was a surreal moment and one they used to shop around, to buy more supplies, not knowing how much longer they would be here. They purchased winter cloaks, since Yuuki predicted they would be traveling North. He was right, the temperatures began to steadily drop. Winter wrapped her cloak around her body, glad for the warmth.

They stopped when they reached a lake, the Messanger glancing back at them. It knelt, as though expecting them all to climb on its back. That's exactly what they did. "Elise, are you alright?" Winter asked in concern. She knew Ezra to be impatient, but she also knew that he would never hurt the people he cared about. He was a gentle soul despite some of his more... interesting tendencies. Winter really hoped that he and Elise would make a nice couple once Elise went back. She wasn't expecting Elise to stay here long term, after all, if this journey ended up being a dead end. "I think we'll be there soon." Winter had a feeling in her gut, something tugging her. It was as though she was being called to, pulled in a certain direction. The Messanger reached the other side of the lake, a small island that was not on any of their maps. Winter slid off of its back, landing a bit harsher on her prosthetic than she meant and nearly popping it off.

The Messanger bowed its head, it was late at night and Winter wondered if it was going to lay down and rest. Instead, the ground around them suddenly illuminated. Before them was a tall golden gate that seemed to extend upwards, all the way to the sky. She jumped back in surprise, Yuuki reaching out to steady her. "Is this it?" She asked excitedly, looking between her travel companions. The gate opened slowly, a bright light coming from the inside. The Messanger waited patiently, expectantly. "Let's stay next to it," Zoku advised, in case the gates closed immediately behind it. "Should we bow?" Winter asked nervously, looking around. The Messanger began to move slowly forwrad, ambling through the mist.

Winter followed it, her heart racing in her chest. When the light receeded, they were standing in a city square, surrounded by armored men pointing spears at them. "Don't move!" They yelled, "raise your hands slowly in the air!" Almost instantly Winter's fighting instincts kicked in, her sword appearing in her hand. Yuuki tapped her shoulder, "Do as they say." He advised, not wanting a spear in the chest. That's right, if Winter died here, her real body would as well. She couldn't put Elise in danger like that. Her sword disappeared, slowly, she raised her hands in the air. "What should we do?" Winter asked, not versed in the ways of the Heirs. "For now, we'll just listen to them."

The lake of fog and stars was beautiful, and Elise was going to enjoy it as much as she could. Winter checked in on her when she felt herself being touched, when she felt a little pain. "It is alright, Ezra most likely is simply wondering why he was not asked to come." They went ahead on the plan without him, and she did not say farewells to him either. She did not think it was necessary, but maybe someone else would disagree. If this was Ezra, perhaps he felt excluded from being allowed to join the fun? "He is being sensitive, it will be fine." She sighed, trying to ignore the sensations. They continued to sail across the lake, enjoying the peace and quiet, trying to rest a little as Yuuki suggested.

And then there was light, beaming right into their eyes. "El, be careful, you're sensitive to light!" It was a result of hiding in her room for years, and she flinched as she shielded her eyes from the source until the new location was revealed to them. It was splendid - could this be Olympia? The Messenger had taken them here, and now it bowed it's head in front of the new audience before them. Armored men aimed spears at them, giving them threats and anger. You would think their reputation of protecting the Messenger would give them higher status, They scrutinized them, Winter looked ready to fight but Elise smiled, trying her best to stay calm. "We obey." For now. She raised her hands and Ame frowned, listening to Yuuki and Elise's lead, doing the same.

"Three Heirs, and a half Heir." The apparent leader of the men said, he had golden armor instead of the white the others bore, and he was a foot taller than the rest. Whoever he was, he held some sort of status among the guards blocking their way to the city. "And then a normal human." At those words the other guard's eyes became frosty. "Take the others to the guest house for questioning." He said, putting his hand on her shoulder. "The human will go to separate housing, for processing." Ame opened her mouth but he shushed her with a hand gesture. "No harm will come to the human, so long as it does not cause trouble. "She! She's a she, not an it! She's a fancy lady!" Ame growled, hissing like a spanked cat. "Quiet." The black eagle said with a tired sigh. "I will cooperate. Be good, Ame, I will be fine."

She was separated from the others, and taken to a different place. It appeared to be some sort of inverted tower, built downwards into the ground rather than up into the air. "Humans usually are not welcome here, but as you were traveling with Heirs, it is an exception." Gold Armor said with a disapproving frown. "Is it because we pollute Earth and keep fighting wars with ourselves?" He shook his head as he lead her to a barren little room. "No, it is just that Olympia is not meant for human eyes." He shut the door and muttered a few words, the door locking automatically behind him.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter was torn, separate with Elise? Elise seemed alright with it, even though Winter was not. "We'll see you soon, alright? Don't tell them anything..." Winter mentioned as they were taken away. "I need to see Zeus," Winter said as they were placed in a guest house. The man in silver armor laughed at them. "You cannot just demand to see Zeus little halfie. Just wait here quietly while we process you." Her blood boiled, she despised being talked down to. The door closed behind her, Winter was separated from the other Heir's. No doubt they would each be questioned alone. She placed her bag down, her shoulders aching from days of carrying the bag. She was on the second floor, but the room had no windows and two doors. One led to a bathroom, the other the exit. She tried the handle, it was locked of course. Winter settled on the bed, pulling off her prosthetic. It had been a long few days? Weeks? She wasn't sure how much time had passed to be honest.

She fell asleep quickly, the first real mattress beneath her in who knows how long. When her eyes opened next there was a fresh pair of clothes laid out for her and a tray with food on it. The food was otherworldly, flavors she had never tasted before dancing on her tongue. Immaculate, Winter thought. She wanted to learn how to make food like this. When she was done eating, she showered, scrubbing her prosthetic leg and body with soap that smelled like lemon and ginger. The clothing given to her were loose and flowy. She tied the belt extra tightly around her waist, then waited. Was this a form of psychological warfare? Making her wait in a large, empty room? She checked all of the drawers and crevices, finding a bobby pin. That was all Winter needed to pick the lock, having done this multiple times with Janet.

She opened the door only a little bit, glancing outside. The hallway was guarded by those in armor. She closed the door again, waiting. Two days passed before the door opened. "We need you to answer some questions," the one in gold armor said as he entered. He took a seat in the chair opposite the bed. "Alright," Winter replied cordially. "What is your name?" He asked, looking at his clipboard. "Winter Matsuri," would there be a point in lying if it came to it? "Why were you travelling with the Messanger?" He asked, leaning forward. No doubt this would have to cooberate with what the others had said. "It was injured, we were camping in the woods when it came from the bushes and we protected it. It allowed us to travel with it." He checked his clipboard once more, seeming satisified. "Why did you come to Olympia?"

"I came to meet my Father, I think it might be Zeus." At this the man laughed a big bellied laugh, as though Winter had just told a very good joke. "You can't just meet Zeus, he's a very busy man. You wasted your time kid." Her hands balled into fists. "I know Zeus is my Father," she said, quiet furry building inside of her. "Yeah, yeah and my Uncle is Festus. "Look, it was nice of you to return the Messanger to Olympia, but I'm afraid you're all going to have to lea-" she hit him with her leg. "What are you doing?" He asked as she whacked him once more with her prosthetic, the only weapon she had. "I am not leaving until I see Zeus!" She whacked him once more. He grabbed her by the throat, lifting her off her feet. She struggled, gasping for air, grabbing at his hands.

"What an entitled little brat. I'll make sure you never see Zeus, I can make your life a living hell." He growled, his eyes the color of fire. "Let... go," she squeaked. His eyes widened, he suddenly dropped her. "Divine Protection?" Winter wasn't sure what that meant, it was the same thing those harpies had said to her before taking her leg. She gasped for air, sputtering as her lungs filled with precious oxygen once more. "Put your leg on," he said suddenly, rushing her out the door. "Wait, where are we going?" Winter asked, hobbling after him as she secured her leg to her thigh.

"To see Zeus."

The next day Elise was given a brief scrub and then taken to another room, farther down, a little dark, with one single table and two chairs on either side of it. There was a dim torch on the side, the room glowing a sort of faint green. Someone was waiting in the room, almost olive skin, bull horns, and a sunny disposition. "Welcome! Come here, human, we just have a few questions for you." The guards sat her roughly into the chair and locked the door behind them. "May I have the honor of knowing your name?" This was an Heir, she could feel it tingling on her skin. "My name is Svarog. I'm one of the Heirs of the forge, Zoku is a close subordinate of mine." It made sense - Zoku had the element of steel and metal, and Svarog appeared to be the embodiment of blacksmithing and forges.

"My name is Elise von Hresvelg. Is there something you wanted of me?" She introduced herself politely, knowing to keep her manners. Heirs would likely approve of her well-mannered behavior, it would be easier to get out of this mess this way. "I do, in fact. Zoku told me that you made this." He pulled something impossible out of his bag, something bigger than the bag itself. The Portal Generator, the one she had made ages ago, was placed on the table. "A creation like this - this is many years beyond the level of current human technology. Can you tell me how you created this?" They were curious about her technological skills? "I was trained in experimental technology from young, and I am a natural prodigy." She explained how she came up with the calculations and quantum theories until she was able to pierce through matter itself with enough power.

He smiled then, letting out a hearty laugh as he patted his somewhat large belly. "I see, I see. Well, normally you would never be allowed out of here ever again, but your unique talents may in fact, come in handy." He leaned in closer, an almost manic gleam in his eye. "If you agree to a task, I'll give you your freedom back. As one of the twelve Major Heirs, I have the authority to release you." A Major Heir. That sounded as if he was an elite, someone with a title and respect. Was Zeus also a Major Heir? "A Hresvelg never fails in a task." She said with a nod, proud to bear the black wing. "What is the task you wish me to fulfill?"

"Exactly the response I wanted to hear, human." He nodded approvingly, burping. "Ever since that other human opened the veil and brought our monsters into your realm on the Near Shore, the rift between the Shores has been unstable. There is a chance another apocalypse might happen. I'm far too busy to fix this myself, but if you do my job for me, I'll give you your freedom." He grinned, offering his hand. "I hope we have a deal." She took it readily, knowing this was the only way out of the prison. "If I may have access to your best tools, I will not fail your expectations, Svarog."

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

"Wait here," Winter did as told, standing just outside of the gates. The man in the golden armor walked inside first, she could hear yelling on the other side. After a few, awkward minutes, he emerged. "Come on, we need to do this quickly." She was ushered through a gate, a horn blown, the throen room grand. There were no walls. It was a marble floor with stairs on one side, a water fall rushing down them and leading to what looked to be a garden. There were two thrones set at the end and a pit with more thrones within them, an aisle running down the middle. Above them, the stars twinkled, as well as the sun and moon. "Bow," she was urged. Winter did as told until the man on the throne looked over, seeming disgruntled. "You may rise," he spoke, clearly not in the mood for whatever shenanigans he thought Winter might have up her sleeve. "You may approach," the woman beside him said, her voice feather-light. She had long purple hair and eyes with little hearts for irises.

Winter felt nervous. They had an aura about them, one of strength and power. "Are you Zeus?" Winter inquired, swallowing her anxiety. "Yes, the one and only." He leaned forward, seeming bored. "My name is Winter Matsuri and I think you might be my Father." The room fell silent, the harp in the corner stopping mid-stroke. Zeus suddenly laughed. "Father? I have no kids!" He seemed to think this a great joke, slapping his knee. The woman beside him hiding her smile behind a fan made of white feathers and gold strings. "My Mother's name was Autumn Matsuri." Winter spoke quickly, knowing that she only had a short window, considering he already did not believe her. "She had flaxen hair and blue eyes and her smile could light up the world." She remembered looking at photos in an album with her Grandparents, running her fingers across the crinkling plastic that protected them.

"She liked to sing, she would always-"

"Enough!" The woman beside Zeus snapped, "you aren't seriously going to let this child go on with this charade, are you?" She asked Zeus, who was clearly her husband. Zeus was listening with rapt attention, his expression wistful. "I never knew... she had a child. We had a child." He left his throne, coming towards her. Winter took a step back. He grabbed her face in his hands, staring into her eyes. "Divine protection, the same eyes. Yes, you must be mine." He turned to the woman, "Iris, this is my daughter." He turned back to her, "What did you say your name was again?" He asked, releasing her face. "Winter," he lifted her up, tossing her into the air as though she weighed nothing. "Winter!" He took in all of her, stopping at her legs. "What happened to your leg?" He asked, kneeling down to tap on the metal.

"I sacrificed my leg to some harpies to save my best friend." She explained, he nodded. "We'll have to fix that. No daughter of mine is going to have a metal limb. Iris, call the healers and a tailor, and we'll need to make preparations for a welcoming celebration. How did you get here? No, I can't listen now. Dinner, tonight. Iris, call Zed," Iris sighed, she seemed annoyed, it was clear she did not like Winter. "You cannot call Zed to do everything for you, he's busy making preparations to take over Olympia once you retire." Zeus shook his head. "Call Zed, he'll need to know about Winter." Iris ground her teeth, but turned away. A few minutes later, a man with snow white hair and golden eyes had appeared. He was tall and slender, but not lanky.

"You rung?" He asked Iris, appearing from up the stairs. "Yes," Zeus beckoned him forward. "This is Winter, my daughter. You're going to show her Olympia and take her to the healers." He gave Zed a list of things to do, Winter feeling bad for being such a burden. "Also, my friends, they came here with me. One of them was a human, do you know where should we be?" Zed nodded, "Yes, she'll probably be where all the strays who find Olympia go. Come on, we'll do Zeus's laundry list first."

The sun was far too bright. For how north Olympia was in the Boundary, the barrier around it made it so you would never know it was hidden on the other side of a frozen lake, so secluded no one would think of visiting it if they did not know better. She trailed behind Svarog's towering shadow, keeping her head up and proud. She was tasked with finding a way to mend the tear the Doctor created. While she did sew the portal shut, it did not fix the instability between the Boundary and the Near Shore. Svarog was taking her somewhere, escorting her out of the prison she had been locked in. "So what were you doing here in Olympia anyways? Is it true that some half Heir thinks she's Zeus's child?" He asked, looking back at her with amusement.

"Well, yes. Supposedly she was told this by the harpies." Elise replied in a calm even tone, not betraying any emotion. She lost her father, but Elise hoped Winter would be able to reconnect with hers. They were sisters in all but blood, was it strange to want the best for her? "Hah, I wish I was in court today to see it." Svarog grinned, turning back to face forward as they strolled through the city of gold. "Zeus has got a plethora of children, but not one has bothered to come here and kick up a fuss. The look on Iris's face would be magnificent!" Elise blanked on the name Iris but she simply maintained her polite smile, not letting herself be ruffled. "Winter is determined. As someone who prevented the apocalypse, she has grown quite strong." At first she was a little weak and pathetic, but she had grown into someone more than worthy of respect and awe.

Svarog lead her to what appeared to be some sort of portal. "This will take us to my home. Close your eyes, you might get a little seasick, human." He stepped in and almost seemed to twist before vanishing. Elise frowned, then followed suit. A whirlwind of motion and sensation later, and Elise found herself in what appeared to be a metalworks forge. "This is Mount Thietmar, my forge built inside, just above the volcano. All of my best tools and materials are here, and surely someone of your skill will be able to make great use of them." Elise looked around, a great variety of futuristic tech was here, shining, waiting for her to fiddle with and enjoy. "Is this still in Olympia?" The black eagle asked, excited for a chance to see the limits of her ability.

"Of course it is! This is just the suburbs, because I can't stand all the loud noise on the busy streets when I'm working!" He laid himself down in bed while Elise began to examine some of the tools to learn what they could do. "You said you were too busy to solve the problem. Are you working on a project as well?" She asked, already writing notes on her mental notepad as she played with the buttons. "Why yes!" Svarog rubbed one of his horns and yawned. "I haven't had a good sleep in almost six hours, so I must give myself a nap. Try not to cause an eruption, that would be bad for both of us, I don't have the money for the property bills." Elise rolled her eyes and got to work. The sooner she found an answer, the sooner she could go back to the others.

After what felt like minutes but was in actuality, hours, she heard Svarog let out an annoyed grunt. "Zeus, I'm busy napping! Come bother me at another time!" He growled, shaking his head. "Put your numbers away, we have guests. I imagine that silly friend of yours might just have had the guts to convince Zeus of the impossible." Tired and famished - as she had not been allowed to eat this entire time since entering Olympia - Elise put down the measuring tool. Did Winter manage to do it? Did Zeus acknowledge her?

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

They walked in silence, through the beautiful garden and down another set of steps. Winter had no trouble keeping up, but she hardly had time to take in the scenery. They walked to what appeared to be a serious of lakes, a crystal clear waterfall flowing down into one in the center. They walked behind the waterfall, into what looked like a waiting room. "Sit here," Zed instruced. Winter did as told, sitting down, realizing she did not like this Zed. He was... strange to say the least. Quiet, awkward. He didn't seem like an Heir to her. He returned with a swath of women, all with different colored hair and beaming smiles. "So, this is the little one everyone is gossiping about. Come, come, we'll fix you right up." They grabbed at her, pulling at her clothing, trying to undress her. "Wait, stop!" Winter squealed as her clothes were ripped off. "Here, drink this," a cup of tea was shoved into her hands.

She sipped it slowly, it tasted like grass. Winter made a face as they laughed, tittering around her, not introducing themselves, but acting like they already knew her. "All done? Good, good. Come this way," Winter followed, walking on the slippery floor to a glowing pool. "In here, careful." She stepped slowly down into the water, "it's freezing!" She shivered, her teeth chattering. "Yes, that's part of the magic," one of them said as though it was a delightful thing. "Now, on the count of three, dunk your head!" She nodded, wondering what sort of magic this was. "Oh wait! Your leg, give us your leg!" She pulled off her prosthetic, handing it to one with blue hair. They tossed it away, the prosthetic melting into a pile of metal, no longer under Zoku's influence. "One... two... three!" Winter took in a deep breath and dove under, the water suddenly becoming warm.

She opened her eyes up as bubbles surrounded her on all sides, realizing she did not have to hold her breath. They tickled her skin, rolling over her, the water glowing gently. It felt as though something was hugging her, weighing her down, dragging her towards the bottom of the pool. Winter closed her eyes, feeling strangely safe. When she opened them next, she was being pulled out. "How do you feel?" The gaggle of girls were standing over her, patting her down with a sand colored towel. "Wiggle your toes?" Her toes, she looked down at her legs, expecting only one to be there. There were two, it had actually worked. She wiggled her toes, "careful!" Winter bolted to her feet, nearly falling over. She was naked, looking at her reflection in the water of the pool. "Are you ladies done?" Zed asked, as they squealed, throwing a towel at Winter to cover her.

"It's rude to walk in on a lady like that!" Zed shielded his eyes with a hand. "We're on a schedule," he said, making Winter realize why she didn't like him. He reminded her of Janet. "It's fine, I'm ready." She wrapped the towel around herself, not knowing where her clothes were. He placed his jacket around her shoulders, leading her out. This time, they walked through a field, past the waterfalls and to a marble driveway. "Where are we?" She asked as they walked into what appeared to be a beautiful mansion. There was an atrium where flowers of all shapes and sizes were growing along every surface. "My home, come this way, the tailor should already be here." Winter followed after him, slightly annoyed. "What about my friends?" She asked, brow twitching.

"You'll see them tonight." Zed replied vaguely as he opened a door, the hallways neat and clean, with a different plant in every pot. "Do you live alone?" She asked, he didn't answer. Instead, he opened up a door that overlooked a garden, a vanity along one wall and a table set out with snacks. She reached for a cookie, realizing how hungry she was, but her hand was slapped away. "No cookies until I've fit you," a strange man with spectacles and a ponytail said.

A man so majestic you could also say that he was like a bolt of lightning, even Elise knew without a doubt that this could only be one person. This was Zeus, a Major Heir and the current head of Olympia. He gave her a dispassionate stare as if looking at an animal and then turned his attentiont to Svarog with a frown. "Hello, Svarog. I see you are slacking off again." Svarog grinned, patting one of his bull horns. "Slacking off? When do I ever do that, your excellency?" A playful smirk was on the round man's face, he was clearly enjoying messing around. "You don't need to be sarcastic with me. Is this the human?" Zeus's tone was flippant and impatient. Was this truly the man Winter called father? "Yes, this is she. Human, lower your head, someone like Zeus might smite you if you do not show respect." Svarog advised with a grin, and Elise followed his orders like an obedient dog.

It did not seem to please Zeus all that much, however. "I'd expect a human that caught your interest to be a little more interesting. It's so obedient, it's frankly irritating. It does not even have an ample chest for a female human." So the rumors of Zeus being a player were more fact than fiction, considering how he was speaking. "Raise your head. Svarog, why did you take it in? Is there something unique about this human?" It prickled her spine to be talked about like this. As a Hresvelg, she had more dignity than to be considered an animal. But did these Heirs know or care at all about human nobility? Most likely, her word would hold no sway here. "It's a rare genius, one in a million among humans." Svarog said with a pleased sneer. "It can solve the problem you tasked me and I won't even have to lift a finger."

"Look at me, human. Can you really do as Svarog said?" Zeus glowered at her, trying to ascertain the truth. "Yes." She said with pride. "I already have an idea on how to approach the issue." Zeus sighed, clearly unimpressed. "I see the human wants to be praised for simply being adequate. In any case, my it is my daughter's friend, and I did make a promise that they would be able to meet." Svarog sighed, nodding. "Fine, but it still has to my request. It broke Olympian law by crossing into our borders, naturally." Fully repairing the veil would be considered atonement for breaching law, so there would be no escaping her promise.

A trip through the portal, a dress and some food later, Elise was feeling a little bit better. "For now, human, you are to come to a meeting. I believe the Heirs who befriended you and my daughter are hoping you were not mistreated." Was he doing this to make a good impression with Winter? "Then I will be glad to meet them, your excellency." Zeus made an irritated noise. "Svarog only calls me that out of rudeness. You may simply call me Zeus, human." So this was the palace. It truly was splendid, a place of wonder, but Elise mostly wanted out of here. She knew when she was not welcome, after all.

She was measured top to bottom, unable to move as she was fitted. Zed had left her in the rom, alone with the man fitting her. That was fine, Winter wasn't that fond of him anyhow. She felt... watched, as though he was spying on her. "Alright, the measurements are done," the tailor finally said, allowing Winter to step off of the stool. She went straight for the table of food, a fluffy bathrobe and slippers waiting for her. The only other time she had gotten to wear something so fancy was when staying with Elise. For a moment, Winter felt sad. She was going to rescue Elise from wherever she had been sent and send her home if she could. Clearly, this place was not friendly to humans. She went onto the balcony while she waited, looking over the garden. It was large, extending as far as her eye could see. Where were all the staff? Winter wondered.

She nibbled on a biscuit, waiting, watching. Surely someone had to tend this large garden? She turned, finding Zed standing right there, staring at her, a cup of tea in his hands. "Take a picture, it'll last longer." She rolled her eyes, turning back to look at the garden. "What an interesting little beast you are," he replied, sipping his tea. Winter did her best to ignore him. The two of them standing quietly on the balcony for what felt like ages. "There's a bathroom if you want to wash up," he said at last. "Alright," She pushed away from the railing, following him, brushing biscuit crumbs from the bathrobe. The bathroom was large, the tiles with gold veins. There was a waterfall leading into a bathtub on the far wall and a vanity full of different soaps and shampoos.

She didn't have much time to relax, Winter was soon being ambushed by a serious of knocks on the bathroom door in order to rush her. Eventually they all simply barged inside, a gaggle of women, Zed standing in the hallway. "These are the stylists, Iris ordered them to come. I tried to fend them off for as long as possible, but they were growing impatient." He shielded his eyes with a gloved hand. "It's fine, I'm sure she means well." Winter rose from the tub, wrapping a towel arund her abdomen. She was brought back to the first room, where a dress was now waiting in a garment bag. She wrapped a bathrobe around herself, never having been styled by anyone before. She knew next to nothing about makeup or fancy dresses. No doubt Elise would be ordering all of these women around. Were they all Heirs? She wondered.

Eventually, Winter was done. "There! Now we just need to put your dress on." It was the most extravegant piece of clothing Winter had ever put on. "Can I really wear this?" She asked in a whisper, staring at herself in the mirror. "Yes, it was made just for you." She had barely any time to admire the material, as soon, Zed was leading her out again. "The ball is soon," he walked at a brisk clip, Winter rushing to keep up. "Elise will be there, right? And Yuuki, Zoku, and Ame?" She asked, wanting to make certain they would no longer be held prisoner. "The human will be there, yes. The other three were already sent home." She stopped for a moment. Sent home? They had been... deported? "But why? They're Heirs! Shouldn't they have been allowed to stay?" She asked, running to keep up with him.

"No," Zed replied. "Olympia is only open to Heir's who have done extraordinary things. Those three did what was expected of them, that was all." Was it always expected of Heir's to pick a human that would possibly end up dead? What was the point? "And what about you? What did you do?" Winter asked as they neared the steps that led up to the throne room. Zed did not answer.

The black eagle blinked at the mirror, marveling at the reflection yet again, while the stylists grinned with self satisfaction at their handiwork. "This human was quite easy, it has natural features that are elegant and fitting for ballroom dresses." They commented, tittering amongst themselves. The red dress was not fantastical or particularly detailed, bit the simplicity and the stark color that matched with Elise's eyes made the match far more than you would expect from such a dress. The stylists definitely were proud of their work. It was not the first time - Elise often made stylists happy with her striking features and delicate facial structure. Her hair was done in curls, let down from the usual updo she kept her hair in, trailing down her back with uncomfortable weight. "Let's take you to Zeus!" The stylists clammered, taking her by the arm as if she were a show dog.

In the next room Zeus had been waiting. The palace was definitely abundant with sound, there was excitement afoot. There was a ball that they were preparing for. "Hello, human. You look remarkably decent, but a little too flat for my tastes." She nodded, she would prefer it that way of course. "I have a man, so thank you for your lack of interest." Her tone remained polite of course. As afraid as she was, the black eagle knew not to risk angering an Heir, especially one with as much power and authority as Zeus did. "Heh. Rather impertinent, aren't you?" He let out an almost amused sound before shaking his head. "The ball will be soon. My daughter will be coming to the throne room, so we should make haste." He began to walk off without checking if she would follow or not. Thankfully Elise knew how to handle heels so she followed behind the tuxedo'd Heir.

In the splendor of the Throne Room, the doors opened revealing an Heir unknown to Elise who must be the one named Zed, and Winter herself. Zeus made sure to update her on the fact that Yuuki, Ame, and Zoku were sent away so now it was the two sisters stranded in Olympia. Hopefully Winter knew what she was doing. "You have returned, my daughter. You look just like your mother." Zeus said in a jovial tone. Elise did as Zeus trained her to do and bowed deeply to Winter, lowering her head. "Greetings, Zed and Winter. I am a human at your service." Zeus seemed to approve that she knew her place as a lowly human. For now, anyways.

"As promised, your friend is here, Winter." Zeus offered her his hand. Winter did look great, her dress truly was made just for her. Winter stood with an almost noble sort of beauty, though the ice girl would never admit it herself. "Though because she breached Olympian law, she normally would never be allowed to leave." Zeus sighed as if this were a trivial matter. "Luckily for her, there is a task another Heir has for her, and if she succeeds, she can have her freedom." This was clearly a warning to Winter to not act out of hand in order to save her. "It should be simple enough, it is related to the leftover damage the Doctor left behind." She explained after Zed allowed her to be at ease.

"The ball is about ready to commence." Zeus said as he heard the music begin. "We go now, to the ballroom."

"Elise," Winter was glad to see that she was alright. It was a relief and she looked pretty, all dressed up. "You look pretty," she frowned when Elise bowed, knowing that it was probably something that she had been taught while imprisoned. Thankfully, Elise updated Winter on her situation. She nodded, realizing what this meant. Elise was smart, she would complete the task quickly, Winter thought. Zues took her hand, a Fatherly affection Winter had never felt before. He squeezed it lightly, smiling down at her. She wasn't quite sure how to react. The music began, it was time to go to the ball. Winter glanced back at Elise and Zed to make sure that they were following. To her relief, she was right behind her. The ballroom wasn't a far walk from the throne room, they went down the steps on the side, where the waterfall parted for them to walk and thrugh the garden to two large doors.

The doors seemed to open on their own, an even larger room inside. There was a carpet made of grass and lanterns that floated freely throughout the space. In one corner, an orchestra played by what Winter believed to be nymphs. Trumpets played as they entered, a voice announcing their presence. "Introducing Zeus and his daughter, Winter." They walked down a short staircase, Winter's eyes sparkling as she glanced at the different instruments in the orchestra. "Introducing Zed and-" there was a short pause as they took Elise's name, "Elise Von Hresvelg," Winter glanced back at Elise to see if she was alright. No doubt Elise was used to being attended to hand and foot. "Ah, you look lovely, much more like an Heir and less like a wild creature." Iris complimented, or what Winter thought was a compliment. "Thank you," she took it in stride. She made a move to join her friend, but Zeus's grip on her was firm.

"Naturally, all of the Heir's are going to want to meet you," Zeus said, delightfully. Ah, Winter understood in an instant. This wasn't a welcome party, this was a chance for Zeus to show off his kin. Was everyone here a conquest of his? She wondered, then became grossed out by the thought. Was she the only half-Heir? Yuuki had explained that consumation with a human was illegal among the Heirs, so how did Zeus get a pass while everyone else would have been banished? "Atena!" Iris waved to a woman dressed in a sleek purple gown with a long slit up one leg. Her hair was honey colored and her eyes pink. "Ah, this must be your daughter." Atena held out a hand, "it's a pleasure." Winter took it, not expecting a kiss on her palm. "If you ever need any favors, just let me know." She winked, Iris tittering and politely shoving Atena away.

It was a while before Winter could escape. She went to find Elise immediately, but not before grabbing a drink for both of them. "There you are, I brought this." She handed Elise a glass of the drink she had grabbed. It was pink, but when you swished it around the glass, it turned blue. It smelled like lemonade, Winter hoped it was as inocuous as that. "Are you alright? How are they treating you? The Heir that's looking over you, what's his name? Where are you being kept?" She peppered Elise with questions, worried for her friend. She spotted Zed out of the corner of her eye, standing in a corner on his own, next to a planter with orchids. He batted at a lantern that came too close, Winter turning away before they could accidentally make eye contact.

The ball was extravagant, but Elise was in her element here. This was not the first social function of the highest class she had ever been to, and with hope, it would also not be the last. A ball full of daggered stares and unknown intentions, this sort of intrigue was just the kind of environment she was born for. She was introduced and already the fake-friendly glances were aimed at her direction. Some, pity. Others, hidden anger. How dare a human step foot into Olympia? How dare a human glance with its own eyes upon the gold meant for Heirs? As uppity as Heirs were, they were fairly easy to read. Elise knew she was not welcome here, but she was used to hatred. To be a noble is to have jealous eyes staring swords at your back your whole life, so what was a few more?

While Winter mingled, Elise slipped into the crowd to get out of the limelight. She was still famished, but it would not do to eat the food here. Gorging like a wild animal would only humiliate her, and she had a feeling that Zeus partly was hoping for her to make a fool of herself. "Could this be the next conquest?" Elise could hear whispers, curious and furious Heirs already speculating about her. "Why was Zeus with another human?" While some Heirs were friendly with the current reigning Heir, it was clear there were others who had no intention of tolerating this behavior. It was not Elise's fight to fight though, so she mostly ignored the whispers. "This one barely looks to be of age, how could Zeus target an immature human?" It was not Elise's problem, so she would not worry about the gossip.

Eventually Elise found herself in Winter's company again, who managed to escape the grasp of those who wanted to meet and greet her. "Are you enjoying the ball? Is this the first noble function you've been to?" She asked in a neutral, pleasant tone, after bowing her head to Winter in greeting until Winter gave her permission to raise it again. She glanced at the drink dubiously but knowing Winter, it would most likely be fine. She drank with one hand on the glass, hoping it would help quench her hunger for the time being. It was tangy and an odd mixture of sweet and bitter, but not unpleasant to drink. Suddenly Winter began bombarding her with questions and queries. She must have been worried, and a little twist of guilt knotted in the black eagle's stomach.

"I am fine." She offered a slight smile, shaking her head. "I was given a chance to earn my freedom, that is more than a normal human would be offered." There was a lot that Winter wanted to know and Elise hoped to alleviate her worries so that the ice girl would be able to focus on her own affairs. "I am being kept at Mount Thietmar, home and forge of Svarog, the Heir of the Forge and Blacksmithing." Evidently he was something of an eccentric and an inventor. "He was Zoku's mentor in the past, but I doubt he would be here. He did not seem to be a social type."

There was something Elise wanted to know too. "What is your objective now? You met your father, and..." She gave Winter a discrete glance downwards and nodded. "And I see that your leg has been returned to you." Hopefully the Harpies would not see this as a violation and take back Elise's life in exchange for the stolen leg. "How is he treating you? More importantly, what are his intentions for you?" Would Zeus try and force Winter to stay here as his child and raise her as his own? "The Portal Generator is in Svarog's posession. If I can retrieve it, we can return home at a moment's notice, as soon as you are ready." It was their ticket home, should Olympia prove too dangerous for them to remain in.

|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

This was Winter's first party. She had never so much as had a birthday celebration, much less been to a ball. Speaking of which, Winter couldn't even recall when her birthday was. The dates sometimes had all simply blurred together and the day was never acknowledged. She only knew how old she was based on passing remarks about maturity and such. While the ball was fun at first, it was quickly proving to be a tiring affair. "Well, what do we have here?" Zeus's grip on her had tightened. Was this a character of interest? "This is my daughter, Winter. Winter, this is one of my brother's. Heir of the Dead, Hades." Hades, a chill ran through her. He stared at her leg, "Yes, I am already acquainted." He held out a hand, "although we have yet to officially meet." Winter shook it, his grip cold.

Eventually, Winter managed to slip away and brought Elise a drink, who standing unassumingly in the corner. "I've never been to a party," Winter admitted. "It's kind of tiring, do you do this sort of thing often?" She asked, taking a sip of her drink. It changed colors as she watched it swirl in the glass. She peppered Elise with questions, wanting to make sure that she was safe. It came with a sigh of relief as Elise told her, mentioning that she was being worked by an Heir who was eccentric, but essentially harmless. "I'm glad to hear you're doing alright." She pointed at the food table, "Do you want to grab something to eat?" No doubt Elise was hungry, Winter was worried that they weren't feeding her properly.

What was the objective? Winter looked at the ground, "I want to stay a bit longer," she admitted. "I want to get to know my Dad." She turned to Elise then, "You should probably go back as soon as possible though," Winter admitted. "I don't think it's safe for you here," she looked up at the floating lanterns. "I should be fine, I just... I've never gotten to know my parents. One of them is dead and the other one is finally right in front of me and he seems to like me." Was it wrong that her heart was racing? Was it so wrong that she was happy to have a real Father? "I don't know what his intentions are, but they don't seem bad." If anything, he seemed protective. She recalled his grip tightening when introducing her to his brother, no doubt a character of interest.

"My leg was healed in a weird cave, I don't know why, but I'm guessing Iris didn't want to look at it. I'm more worried about Iris than Zeus to be honest." Iris seemed to have some sort of agenda. Zeus seemed... genuine, at least as far as Winter could tell. "I can learn to use the Portal Generator like I did the last one, so I can return later." She picked up a finger sandwich from the table, taking a bite. The vegetables were fresh and crispy, it was a good sandwich, Winter thought. "I wish Yuuki, Ame, and Zoku hadn't been sent home." Winter said softly, "I'm sure they would have really enjoyed this party." It was quite the affair, she thought.

Winter looked almost like a deer in headlights, a little bewildered, a little astonished, and definitely not used to this kind of atmosphere. "Before the bombing at the concert I had been to many social functions as a daughter of the Hresvelg family." It was easy for her to act as if she belonged and hide herself just out of plain view. The less she was noticed, the black eagle figured the less trouble she might possibly attract at the same time. After assuaging Winter's worries, she asked Elise if she wanted to eat. "I overheard some heirs saying they wanted to prank me, so I assumed finding food might prove dangerous." She glanced at the food table, where meals she did not exactly recognize were waiting. "But if it were you, I doubt anyone would want to mess with Zeus's daughter."

Winter seemed determined to spend a little bit more time here. It made sense. Elise had a lifetime with her mother and her father too. Winter had had none of that, while she had had grandparents, she did not know what it was like to have a father's love. Jeralt tried his best, but there simply was not enough time before they were taken away. Elise agreed that it was not safe here, but she did not feel right leaving without Winter. "There is a chance that Zeus will not let you return." Elise's voice was quiet, her eyes like dull rubies as she gazed at Winter, keeping her expression pleasant and neutral. "After finally finding his daughter, a man like Zeus does not seem the type to simply let her leave him again." Even though Winter was confirmed to be half-Heir, she still belonged on the Near Shore to live a normal average life, or as much of one as they could grant her.

Elise was not one to do half measures. As dangerous as the Boundary was, she had a job to do. "When I agreed to accompany you here, it was to ensure you would be able to return." She flashed a rare grin, their sisterhood stronger than ever before. "Until I see with my own eyes, I will be here with you." Still, there was a limit to what she could truly do for now. "Stay safe in case Iris becomes a threat. Once I finish the task Svarog has given me, I should hopefully have more freedom to help you." There was still quite a lot to do and study. If she could get her hands on more Boundary tech, maybe she could advance even human technology by years and years, bringing them ever closer to the boundless future.

"They certainly would have." She agreed, almost wistful. "Ame would no doubt be embarrassing herself and causing trouble. Zoku would be trying to control her, and Yuuki would never let you out of his sight." Ame had been a real pain in the beginning, but over time Elise became used to her company. Now, she could miss her and long for her companion to be at her side once more. They were partners, Ame was as much of a friend as Mr. Stuffles was. "It appears that Zeus is approaching." She spotted him in the crowd, walking towards them. The music was crescendoing - perhaps Zeus wanted a dance with his daughter?

【ɗιαƖσgΟ…Ρ” cσƖσя:#BDA0CB β™™ тнσυgΠ½Ρ‚ cσƖσя #F7B3DA】
|| Dear Winter || AJR ||

Winter recalled the bombing at the concert, her last big outting. The day everything went wrong. She had been so young then. "That was the worst day of my life," she said softly, her grip tightening around her drink. "But you know that already," it had been a horrible day for Elise as well. So many had lost their families, Winter had become a scape goat, she had lost all of her friends, her Grandparents, and everyone she cared about. Now she had a different family, a family not by bloodline, but by choice. Well, she had Zeus too, but Winter still wasn't sure how to feel about him. She was excited to meet him, but he wasn't what she expected. Winter supposed that Heir's were always a bit unpredictable. Winter could never once tell what Yuuki or Zoku was thinking. Humans were a bit easier to read. They were simple creatures that acted on instinct. Did Heir's even have any instincts?

"I think we should be alright, as long as we don't let anyone hand us anything," if they took food for themselves and watched over it, no one could poison it or trick them. Winter led Elise to the food table, not wanting to look like a pig and leave a bad impression with Iris. She took one mini sandwich and a delicate looking cake with a glossy sheen. She could already tell that Iris did not like her, although Winter did not know why. Was it because she did not want to think of Zeus's other lovers? Had any of Zeus's other children sought him out? Or did Iris sabotage their chances? "I wonder where all of her children are..." She murmured, could Iris have children? She knew that Iris was the Heir of color. It was apt that she was wed to the Heir of the sky.

Winter smiled a small smile, "To be honest I'm somewhat relieved you'll stay with me, but I'm also worried about your own safety." She knew that Elise knew how to handle herself in affairs when it came to things like ballrooms or speaking to Nobles, but could she hold her own against a group of angry Heir's that didn't want a human in Olympia? "It's too bad we can't disguise you as a nymph or sprite," then Elise would be more than welcome here, considering some of the others occupying this space were magical creatures Winter had only ever read about in books. "I have a feeling Iris is the one I need to worry most about." Zed, while Winter did not like him, seemed relatively harmless. Zeus, Winter did not think wanted to hurt her. Although, she wasn't sure what his plans were for her. Hades, Winter thought she should steer clear from.

Winter smiled, "Poor Yuuki wouldn't get to enjoy himself between those two causing so much trouble." Winter laughed, the music coming to a crescendo. Zeus was walking towards them. Winter put her plate down quickly, knowing that the Heirs and guests would be watching them. "Might I have this dance?" He asked, holding out an arm. Winter nodded, smiling. "Of course," she took his arm, he led her to the center of the dance floor, the lights dimming a bit. Winter had taken two years of ballet before she had been enlisted into the arms of music. While she was out of practice, she was no slouch. "Your Mother was my first love, I met her when I was still young and wistful." Time was not linear in the Boundary, it was something Winter knew well. "What was she like?" Winter asked as he spun her.

"She had a smile that could steal your heart. I could never say no to her. When we met, she was a history teacher at a small university. I convinced her to take a day off and we toured the town." He smiled, "I tried to convince her to come with me, I told her we could make it work, but she insisted on staying behind. I wonder if she would have thought differently if she knew..." he didn't need to finish that sentance, there was no way either of them could have predicted Winter.
