Bryce sighed, slouching in his chair even more, which was probably terrible for his back. As the teacher talked on, he pushed his notes aside and reached into a pocket of his backpack, pulling out some paperclips. Straightening them out, he lay them all together on his desk. Slowly, he began to twist them into strange, curling shapes and almost into framework. Noticing movement out of the corner of his eye, he turned his head. Setting down his little paperclip project, he lifted one skinny, long-fingered hand and offered the girl, who he assumed to be Paige with his quick glance, a little wave. Paige and he had never really talked. No one ever really talked to him, to be honest - Unless they were trying to get him to do something for them of course, and not in the polite request way.
Turning back to his paperclip project, he twisted the curled wire (formerly papercilps) together with care. Slowly, he began to form two wheels before connecting them. Soon he experimentally spun the wheels on the doo-hickey, watching them spin smoothly.
"Bryce," The genius looked up from his work and frowned. The Teacher crossed her arms. Mrs. Rowe had never liked Bryce's lack of motivation and how he didn't seem to care. She knew the boy to be a 'genius', but believed that she made the class look bad by not paying attention in her class. She gestured to the
picture she had drawn on the board before speaking. "Solid cylinder of mass m is attached to the two springs of total stiffness k as shown. Each of the springs is connected to the wall. What is the period of small oscillations of the cylinder, assuming that it doesn't slide on the floor?" The class turned their heads to Bryce who simply let his mouth hang open, letting out a quiet 'Uhhh' for several seconds. After those five seconds were up, Bryce's mouth closed and he wet his lips before answering.
"Have the springs deflect a distance A, then return to the middle place, center position. Half the value of k times A squared equals half the value of m Velocity squared plus half the value of I times w squared, where V is the velocity of the center of mass and w is the angular velocity-"
"Just the answer, Mr. Riggs."
Bryce rolled his eyes. "T equals 2 times pi divided by w equals 2pi square root of m divided by 2k." The teacher gave him a long stare and narrowed her eyes slowly. Slowly, she wrote the equation Bryce spoke out loud on the broad and nodded, indicating that it was correct. Bryce put his hands up and shrugged. "Did as ya said, Teach, don't be mad." As the teacher muttered and went back to her teaching, he looked back at his creation and continued it. Soon enough, he had a little metal sculpture of a stick man riding a simple little bike. A little, bitty crank that extended from the back wheel and Bryce began to turn it, smiling when the wheels began to turn and the man's legs began to move.
"Bryce," With a heavy sigh, Bryce looked back up. "Since you've shown off for today and you're not going to pay attention, write down your homework and you may leave class early." This, Bryce had no problem with. He looked up at the board, scribbled with his assignment, and practically bolted from the room after stuffing everything in his bag and tucking his metal creation into a pocket of his bag that it wouldn't be crushed in.
As Bryce wandered the halls and the school in general, he eventually found Malcolm and Paige. He was about to pass them by when Paige dropped her stack of papers and almost slipped.
"Woah," he reached forward and held her shoulder to keep her steadiest before kneeling on the ground and starting to help Paige pick up her papers. "You okay, Paige?" he asked, gathering up some of her papers. He glanced over at Malcolm again before standing and holding out Paige's sheets of paper to her. It wasn't unusual to see Bryce wandering the halls during class, usually managing to be released early from at least half of his classes.
